@Raffles134 thats a good idea. How long can a pen technically last for? Say if you decide to stay on 2.5 with a 5 pen would it have a time limit on when you have to use it? I think my prescriber it’s something like £15 more for the next does so still financially better if I could do something like what you are doing and get more doses out the pen. How do you do the golden dose thing? I’m worried I’ll end up contaminating and killing myself all with the pipe dream to be thin and attractive again lol

wordywitch · 22/04/2025 12:44

I just ordered my 5mg pen (no one used my code so had to pay full price - meh), due to take my 4th dose on Thursday morning. I’m still unsure whether I will try to use the bonus dose. I’ve definitely noticed less suppression this week than with the first two doses so am pretty keen to move up to 5. That said, I’ve had minimal side effects and am losing on average 1kg a week which I’m happy with.

Is the bonus dose 2.5mg or usually less? I’m not understanding when you do this dose, before you start on 5mg, to get an additional week out of the pen? Even if it’s not the full 2.5mg when you extract it?

Hi all

Hope it's OK for me to join. I'm due to take my 3rd jab tonight. Lost 9.5lbs so far with what feels like a bizillion to go! But one step at a time. Delighted to get over half a stone off even if it's just water weight.

I guess I'm taking a slightly different approach from some (at least for the time being) as I'm not calorie counting or restricting. I've had a pretty traumatic couple of years and this is as much about my physical health as it is healing mentally too so trying to avoid putting too much pressure on myself. This is also a long term move so starting with the idea of only ever eating under 800 cals forever more just makes me not even want to bother so a relaxed approach it is.

No major side effects to date but have had some sort of virus this last week which hopefully isn't related. I did notice that when I had a few drinks one eve this weekend I was absolutely starving the next day and when I had 2/3 of a small easter egg on sunday I couldn't get to sleep for hours. So I guess lessons learnt with both of those.

I don't get major suppression but have had a reduction in food noise and I do feel satiated faster than normal. Genuinely amazed how the intense food cravings have reduced. Feel like I've had a factory reset as I never used to really have a sweet tooth but in recent years one (or many!) seems to have developed and become all encompassing. Now it's gone and I feel sort of back to my old self.

Currently dithering about whether to go up to 5 or stick with 2.5 for another month. 2.5 seems to be working so why mess with it? But the fear that it will suddenly stop is high!

Anyway I've probably rambled enough. Just thought I'd join in the discussion as these things are much easier with other people who are going through the same thing by your side :)

@ymemanresu I was the same but with nausea and acid reflux - I switched to1.25 twice a week - this was better

Is that 30 clicks? Was there a big difference as im not sure if i should continue

MistyWitch · 22/04/2025 13:07

Late to the party as usual.

I’ve had my second dose (first was on 12/04 before bed) so I’m on week 2 now and so far so good. Heartburn has been here since Sunday afternoon but it’s finally subsiding. I was the ultimate picker, always mooching in the cupboard when I went to make a cup of tea. That’s completely gone now and I’m really having to force myself to remember to eat. Halved my portions without being left feeling any kind of hunger.

SW (12/04/25) - 77.03kg
Week 1 (19/04/25) - 73.09kg (-3.94kg)

Holiday in 8 weeks so hoping to see a difference by then. Joining here to keep me accountable.

Crikeyalmighty · 22/04/2025 13:30

@ymemanresu yes quite a difference - I still had the nausea but not nearly as bad on day 2 and 3, only problem is I get it twice a week now but it’s more bearable

Yeah the idea is that you take it as an extra dose to make your pen last a week longer. Don’t quote me on it but I’m sure I’ve read posts where people have said the bonus dose was more than 2.5

Mounraine · 22/04/2025 13:48

@ymemanresu I had awful side effects with my first 2.5mg jab. Took almost a fortnight off and then restarted with 1mg. I'm going to do two more at 1.25. Only side effect so far has been constipation.
Then, my pharmacist wants me to move up to 2.5mg weekly. I feel very nervous about doing this, so might do 2mg.

It doesn't make sense to me that the starting dose is 2.5mg whether you're just obese or morbidly obese, male or female, 20 or 70 etc.

Crikeyalmighty · 22/04/2025 13:59

@Mounraine I think the main thing about that is cost as only meant to be used for 30 days - so it’s not as if you can make it last twice as long - and quite clearly many on it do have to factor in cost ! but personally I’m with you - I would much rather waste some but find it less ‘full on’ and a slower lead in

I haven’t done my golden dose yet but I have ordered some syringes so will try and extract it. There are threads around on how to do this.
I will try and link one. It’s where I found the syringes that I’ve ordered.
Re the 5ml pen, the recommended use is within 30 days if unrefrigerated, so you can get 5 doses from it within that time scale anyway, but I don’t know if that means it will last longer if it is in the fridge.
if I don’t up my dose and have some over I may use it beyond this point. I keep mine refrigerated and it will be well within the use by date.
Obviously I can’t recommend doing this and it is just down to everyone’s personal choice.

Newmum110 · 22/04/2025 14:08

I'm on W2D6 & over the weekend I couldn't believe the difference in my cravings. I picked up a bit of chocolate, ate it & didn't go back for more which is absolutely unheard of for me. I'm still hungry but don't have cravings outside of the actual hunger (is this what normal people feel? I've never experienced this my entire life!!!)
I will use bonus dose & then move to 5, would love a bit more appetite suppression but if I'm not craving rubbish its half the battle.
I lost 2 stone over the past year with exercise & trying to eat well but it was a constant battle. If the lack of cravings continues this will be a much easier journey.
I am treating myself with Coke Zero & not sure if that is a terrible thing to do but trying to get over 1 hurdle at a time.

This is the link that was shared on the first thread on April Starters about getting the 5th dose. Hope it helps!

@Crikeyalmighty yeah, I'm completely out of my area so I'm not doing any extra doses or going beyond 30 days. I wish there was a lower dose though, as you say, due to cost.

I might try to get 3.75 out of my to ease my way up to 5

That’s also roughly what I’m hoping for 👍

jabmethin · 22/04/2025 16:16

I feel like it’s not working this week. I’m so hungry!

Still waiting for the GP to prescribe my next pen due Friday.

whatthehelldowecare · 22/04/2025 16:32

Can I join in? I’m mid way through week 2 and 10lbs down already. Feeling really good on it!

No major side effects and really good suppression so far, already debating whether I’ll stay on 2.5 next month or move up to 5mg

Peasinthefreezer · 22/04/2025 16:54

Took 4th jab today and did my weigh-in now lost a total of 10lbs so happy with the weight loss.

I’m however moving up next week to 5mg as I’m not really getting much suppression anymore and feel I’m using will power to ensure I eat healthily and within 1400 calories. The bags of crisps are calling me but I won’t let them win!!

Have had no side effects which is good, hopefully the move up to 5mg will be ok.

This is what I have done and I'm so glad I did. Im
due 5th dose next week, so 1st 5mg. Going up to 3.75mg this week gave me a couple days of intense nausea, however it has now calmed down. I imagine it would be even worse had I jumped straight to 5mg.

PinkCatInATree · 22/04/2025 18:15

wk1 Day 7
Actually had a rumble in my tum today for first time in a week ...
For me although I still have 75kg to lose (yes really), it has been a true revelation that some people don't spend all day every day thinking about what to eat, when they are next eating etc.

Crikeyalmighty · 22/04/2025 18:34

@PinkCatInATree I must admit the bigger I got the more ‘food’ seemed to feature large in life- I’m not a food noise person as in I don’t graze and I’m not a snacker , but if I look at our life , a lot revolves around what I’m making for nice meals, where to eat on holiday etc - my friend who is slim often skips meals and definitely doesn’t always prioritise them if you are out or away with her - I do think it’s a mindset change for many that’s needed - not just physically eating less and I’ve found the good thing when I lose weight is that I do naturally focus less on food aspects of life - I think some do need the WLI to help that change along , whereas for me weight loss ‘however I do it ‘ does it for me

SausageRoll90 · 22/04/2025 18:53

Wow this thread has been busy the last 24hrs ☺️🤣 I've finally caught up.

It's W2D4 for me today and it's been my hardest day so far. Not because of food noise but we had a work buffet as someone is leaving and I had an awful night with my toddler so surviving on 3hrs sleep and I've just ended up eating junk. I e not eaten such high calorie foods since starting MJ and wow I feel both full and a bit sick. The chocolate has given me indigestion too 🙈 not feeling good for it at all and I've also met my ideal limit already and not had dinner. So I'm guna listen to my body this evening and just have a light dinner if I need one later.

I knew I was an emotional eater but I never realised how much of an impact lack of sleep has in my food choices. Although sugar is the simplest energy source so no wonder you crave it when you're running on fresh air 😣

Tomorrow is a new day and I've gotta remember this is a long term commitment not a quick fix.

TheHappyBug · 22/04/2025 18:54

W2D1 and the fizzy egg burps are back - yuk!

Crikeyalmighty · 22/04/2025 19:11

@TheHappyBug do you know the weird thing is I get a ton of burping and burping type pressure and nausea- but yet to produce a sulfur burp !! Small mercies I guess
