New thread as I am sure we will fill thread 2 up by the end of today!

Welcome back everyone and well done for all the losses. Some have 5-6 stone to lose, some have 2 stone and me I have put 4 stone but looking at the BMI chart I could lose 6 stone and still be in the healthy range.

Thanks so much and is it a big no no to use same needle? I’m so glad to have mumsnet for all these questions as I’ve nobody in real life to ask as nobody knows I’m doing it xx

No one has noticed for me either @MountainQueen - and I think people would say something, I think I can only see a little on my face

If you're wearing the same clothes as previously, people probably won't have noticed, but there have been threads running on Mumsnet in the last few days about how people who have lost weight respond to comments noticing that they have lost weight. It seems there are a lot of people who don't want their weight loss to be commented on.

I'm now at the stage of life where friends losing weight could be because of illness, but more than that, I'm really shit at noticing. Someone I know had lost 5 stone (but was still wearing her old baggy, shapeless sweatshirts and she always had cracking legs) when I hadn't seen her for a while. It was my partner who commented first, not me because I'd not really clocked it. To be fair, she was still obese at that point.

SilenceInside · 19/04/2025 17:52

@Twinsandsome well they’re singe use needles, so it should be a new one each injection. They can blunt or bend so a new needle avoids any risk of that for starters.

soupforbrains · 19/04/2025 18:33

@TheSpoonyNavyReaderthat has made me really laugh. What a typo to have on this thread. 🤣 I hadnt even noticed so I’m sure nobody is upset.

I had an NSV this week as one of my friends mum’s asked me if I’d lost weight and I said yes and she said ‘quite a lot though, well done’. She knows me well enough to know that I won’t be upset by the comment and also to know that I’ve been trying to lose weight for years. Now… it was at the funeral so I was wearing all black which may have helped but it felt good none the less.

Glad people laughed I spat my water out when I read it.

Sending you love as you have had a very difficult week. Copious amounts of alcohol are sometimes needed at times like this.

Please could someone link the syringes and needles for the golden dose. I’m planning on doing mine next week and have stayed on 2.5 for the next pen.

28Spring · 19/04/2025 19:23

Hi all, just a quick Q, I am planning to do 5th/golden dose tomorrow from my first pen, however as I was away last week I didn’t want to try and do golden dose as a bit more faffy and was staying at in laws so had to be quick & discreet so took my new pen and used first dose from that. So for tomorrows golden dose from my original pen it will have been 30 days open on 11th April so it’s only 9 days over; I didn’t keep it in the fridge at first but did after a couple of weeks…anyone else taken golden dose after 30 day mark and all been fine? I think it will be fine but thought I’d double check on here first! 😁💉

Wondering if people are (a) or (b) regarding weight:

a) Have been overweight/obese pretty much your whole life, even as a child or at least your whole adult life, have a goal weight that you’ve never been at before so unsure what you’ll look like/feel like at that weight

b) Have previously been slim but variety of circumstances have led to weight gain eg pregnancies, menopause, lockdown, other. Your goal weight is a weight you have previously been and feel comfortable at.

I could throw in an extra c) option along the lines of you’ve been big, slim, big, slim, big, slim and have lost and gained the same 2-3 stone (or more) over and over again.

Just want to share that I've signed up for this event. It's free. It looks like there are some really interesting talks and just thought it might be helpful for some of us!

@GameOfJones - the feeling full being a time lag vs not feeling hungry is such an important lesson on this journey. My “OMG I’m stuffed” moment happens about 30 mins after stopping eating, not immediately - I’m re-educating my mind to recognise the “I’m full enough” moment whilst eating that leads to the “I’m absolutely full” moment later.

@TryingMJ - b for me. I had a foot injury that meant I couldn’t do much exercise for a while - but ate the same amount as I used to so gained lots of weight. All of which went on my waist, which is a high risk issue given family medical issue. Think I’m in peri so finding it super hard to shift i vs the two other previous times I’ve had the same injury related gain (nope, I don’t learn!) and I was genuinely worried about developing T2 diabetes, as was my doctor. So I bit the bullet and got my prescription - and am using the journey to get my eating habits back on track. Comfort eating because I couldn’t get my running dopamine kick.

RuthEvershedforPM · 19/04/2025 20:07

@TryingMJ. Not quite those options … but a great question.

i thought I was obese my whole adult life. It’s not actually the case :( my mum went on about my weight as a teen, I now see from BMI I was actually underweight and convinced I was a whale. She was cruel and encouraged my brothers to also go on about my weight. She would say she (and the rest of the family) was ashamed to be seen with me I was such a scruff. Again I look back at pics and it just wasn’t true.

anyway

I was then in the healthy range until I had my kids 18 years ago then tipped into overweight with a few ups and downs. Times when I have been a bit fatter / slimmer, but never really appreciated it wasn’t that bad - because again I always believed I was huge

I have been obese since Covid. A mix of perimenopause, a very stressful couple of years at work and not having to dress for events as my social life has changed as I have aged. All just crept on kilo by kilo.

I saw a friend the other week who I have known since uni, but only see her once or twice a year. I told her about the jabs and she said ‘oh Ruth you’ve been on a diet the whole time I have known you’ I GUTTED this has been a lasting impression. I have a good job, two brilliant children etc. and being in a diet is seemingly part of my personality

Hi interesting

I’m a B or a C

very slim and tall child expected to be 6ft when adult

12 hit puberty and stopped growing all at the same time (5’8) gained 15 kg that year and also stopped growing

13-20 remained more or less the same weight 75-80 kg

20 had a nexaplone inserted and gained a lot , despite dieting couldn’t shift it and at 22 was my largest at 126 kg. I had a BP of a heart attack risk and dr took it out . Instantly lost 15 kg in 3 months . A year later I was 68 kg the smallest I been as an adult

stayed 75-80 kg until after I got married in 2012 and gained the marriage weight and by the time I got pregnant in 2014 my booking in weight was 109 kg

after I had DS I lost and went down to 78kg which lasted until I got pregnant with DS2 in 2018 , I gained a lot with DS2 and 2020 spring I was 87kg and since Covid weight has kept creeping up mainly due to emotionally eating and boredom and crept up to 122 in October and 115 when I started this MJ journey , currently at 108-109 kg with goal of 75Kg

as I’m turning 40 in a couple of weeks I really wanted a life style change and it to be at my best as I prepare myself for the mid life and perimenopause etc

It's B here.

Put on weight slowly over the last 20 years combination of settling down, 4 DC, 3 csections, but I was happy with my weight even though I was overweight if that makes sense, up until lockdown when I put on 3 stone and haven't lost it until starting MJ, I'm 9 pound down in 4 weeks. Have tried WW and SW over the years but always felt I didn't have space in my head and I lacked willpower when I inevitably "failed" at a diet but since starting MJ I've realised I was never the problem and it's quite overwhelming, it was the food noise in my head that I didn't realise I had until MJ made it go away!

cmh18 · 19/04/2025 20:51

@TryingMJ
I'm a C. I've done so many diets over the years, I lost weight in 2019 then in lockdown regained it all. My weight peaked 2 years ago and I lost around 2 stone through diet and exercise, but there's the final couple of stone that i just yo-yo around. Last year I properly addresses my binge eating disorder and GLP-1s are now the final tool to get me to my goal. I'm still exercising regularly - weight training 3 x per week and running 2/3 x per week. The removal of the constant food noise is game changing

BeaTwix · 19/04/2025 21:14

a) slim child, teenager and student

As a student I thought I was huge. I wasn't. I'm just tall and sturdy (cf shoe size/ wrist size and was at the upper end of the healthy BMI range.

Weight started going on when I started work (doctor). Disposable income, no time to cook/ prep decent food/ exam stress so lots of takeaway/ eating out/ convenience food.

My weight has crept up pretty consistently since then and I've only had two serious attempts at losing weight in 20 years.

I'm a daily weigher ( thanks Noom) and was delighted to notice this morning that my first stone appears to be off (not official until Monday weigh day though) and I'm actually into the 11Xkg category which is also exciting.

Also a NSV - not found a pair of scrubs at work for weeks where the trousers didn't fit (different scrub suppliers have a different cut, and I'd got to the point only one kind fitted me. Today I wore a pair that would have been too small 7 weeks ago). In addition the gilet I bought ages ago but couldn't zip up when I got it back out of the cupboard now does.

Puddingpiper · 19/04/2025 21:16

slim until 18/20 gradually gained weight, got a lot fitter mid/late 20s. Met my partner and had small child late 20s and been a shit show since then

Aboutmeabouttime · 19/04/2025 21:19

@TryingMJ
I’m more c - always felt bigger but really gained with DD1 (I was told I looked pregnant from behind!) lost it with WW, gained again with DD2, lost some but then have gained every year slowly until big gains with Covid, followed by supporting DD1 through some mental health challenges and GCSEs… I came last for years, hence the name now. I’m 44, was feeling crap, unwell, poor sleep, indigestion every night and unable to get a grip, in a bit of a doom loop mentally! MJ is about a fire break for me, a reset, time to regain control of my life and health :)

Tormundsbeard · 19/04/2025 21:32

@TryingMJ
Definite b) for me.

Was always a tall slim size 12, even after 2 kids in my late thirties. Ate what I liked really, didn’t have a sweet tooth, but never dieted and was always around 140lbs.
late 40’s /50’s weight just kept piling on.
Now 59 and started MJ 5 weeks ago at 201lbs, down to 186lbs with a target weight of 160lbs.

MamaBanana12 · 19/04/2025 21:46

hi all! I’m on end of my 2nd week of 5mg, appetite is doing ok and no where near as much suppression as week one but enough were i am eating more. Constipation has given in too thank god!
im down to 14st 10 now, from 16st 4 on 3rd March!
I got into my jeans that I couldn’t even get over my thighs !! Defo feel better and people are noticing so that’s nice.

i usually switch each month because I am a greedy bitch, applied to ZAVA and they bloody knocked me back because my bmi was 29.5!!!! So that was a bit crap. So I’ve stuck with simple as they have a monthly discount code. Just gone for 5mg for another month. I’m on holiday in 2 weeks and I feel so much better going. Going to try and be extra good away. Not going to travel with it I don’t think as it’s only 11 nights.

GameOfJones · 19/04/2025 21:53

I'm an A. I have been overweight my entire adult life. Not always massively so, my BMI was 27 when I was at university which is the smallest I have ever been as an adult.

After meeting DH I slowly crept up from roughly 11st ish to 15st. Went on slimming world and down to 12st 7lbs for our wedding and managed to stay around there after having DDs. Then came lockdown and I piled the weight back on. I've been somewhere between 14st and 15st since.

My goal weight is 10st 7lb which is a BMI of 23, but I haven't been that weight since I was a teenager so I can't actually imagine getting there. I will say I am very, very happy to be back in the 12s though!

MountainQueen · 19/04/2025 22:31

@TryingMJ
B for me. I've always been slim, before kids I was size 8. Unfortunately after each child my weight just kept going up and during the lockdown I was heaviest I've ever been. Lost some of it but not enough. And found it very difficult to lose no matter what I did.

I'm B. Slim, well skinny really teens and up to late 20s. Then slim/fit until late 30s. Then had 2 dc, but post 2nd dc, I was actually quite slim Then too, maybe a stone to lose. Since then, I've yoyo'd but the past year I have ballooned.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 19/04/2025 23:08

I'm having a weird one tonight. I want to have a weekend night of snacks and wine. But I can't really do it. I have a load of nice chocolatey stuff. Can't even think about eating it.ive had a bag of crisps and a glass of wine

I feel very conflicted!

IngoGreen · 19/04/2025 23:09

@TryingMJ good question, interesting to see everyone’s answers. I’m a mix of B and C as well. Extra 2 stone slowly crept on in my 20’s, heartbreak got me back to a size 10, then I’ve been up and down between size 12 and 20 since then due to usual suspects, having DS and DD, life stress, tried IF with 5:2 successfully for a few years, most recently peri and menopause and HRT and the IF is just not working as it did. Been heaviest ever for last year til begun MJ.

It is really odd isn’t it. A mint tea and a Ferraro Rocher left over from Mother’s Day (???!! how) for me this evening. Love it that this is now my treat. But yes, strange.
