Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

Please can I join you all! After much dithering, had my first injection on Tuesday. 5ft 6 and 15 stone 2 - biggest I have ever been and feel so uncomfortable in my own skin. Already noticing that I am less interested in grazing and even said no to a packet of crisps yesterday. Unheard of for me!

Motherofgingers · 04/04/2025 16:20

I’ve gone with Numan and they’ve been great so far. I have a code with the first dose for £100 - DM me if you’d like it (full disclosure, I’d get a discount off my next dose!)

Exactly. I really struggle to understand any judgement towards WLIs. If we stay fat, people aren't happy. If we take injections, people aren't happy. Somehow only the natural way of losing weight is acceptable. Isn't the outcome what matters most? How is it taking anything away from them if we have a helping hand? Is it bitterness because they did it the hard way? Lack of understanding, if they find staying slim easy? Jealousy, because WLI didn't work for them, or if they can't afford it? And isn't it less of a burden on NHS now that I'm paying for this medication and treating myself privately, rather than relying on them for weight management services and later down the line, obesity related other illnesses?

Reminds me a bit of those people who look down on C-sections and bottle feeding, as opposed to the "natural" way.

Yes, that “do it the hard/natural way” attitude has more than a whiff of punishment for being fat.

i wonder if someone discovered something similarly effective to stop cravings for alcohol or nicotine, would people judge alcoholics and smokers/vapers for using them, even though the benefits for them, the nhs and society would be huge.

although I’m feeling fine, I just went into the supermarket and the bakery was smelling wonderful, I could have inhaled the lot. Obviously my first dose is not fully effective! Or, thinking about it, maybe it is because I didn’t actually buy anything, when normally I’d have bought some pastries for weekend breakfast…

Mounraine · 04/04/2025 17:38

Been weightlifting and had my tea (fish and veggies). Got that weird taste in my mouth again and feeling so tired all of a sudden.

I think im overdoing the reading too, am always thinking about maintenance. I thought I’d just taper off, but keeping the weight off long term seems correlated with staying on. Can I afford this long term?

Oh, hi. Thanks for starting this thread - I’d be delighted to join!
I guess you could say that I’ve always had a tricky relationship with food, to put it kindly! I’m that person who’s on the plane going on holiday thinking about what the food’s going to be like. I’m the person who gets too much of their enjoyment in life from food. I’m the person who could be 4 stone heavier or lighter over the course of a year. The person who would consider a cinema visit pointless without treats Blush I find it really hard to strike a healthy balance with food and my portion sizes are INSANE. Either I’m dieting strictly or going nuts. I have a fairly obsessive, ‘all or nothing’ food personality.
I’ve always said that my food vice is the most fucked thing about me. Everything else is normal and rather lovely Grin
I was horrified when I stood on the scales on Sunday. I really had reached rock bottom. So I ordered Mounjaro and it’s due in a couple of days. I’d like to lose 6 stone and even then I won’t be skinny, but I’ll be happy with that weight.
Looking forward to it!

This! ⬆

My current weight is 84kg
Goal weight 68kg (ish, I may go lower if it seems to be going well)
I'm 5ft 5in

I should be getting my first pen soon... nervous, feel like I need to eat everything in the house and more before I change my whole life! 😳

Lots of people seem to be obsessed with things being done "naturally". Nothing about our lives is natural. If we were hunter-gatherers, foraging to survive, periodically fasting because there was no food and living off berries, we'd all have perfect figures, wouldn't we? And get in our 10,000 steps a day and all the other things we're supposed to do. But we don't. We work in offices, constantly surrounded by UPFs. We have niggling stresses and low level cortisol for long periods. We have demands on our time that our early ancestors couldn't have dreamed of (washing the car, going to parents evening, dusting). Everyone's comfortable with all of this. But WLI are the thing that's crossed the line. Apparently.

wordywitch · 04/04/2025 18:35

A first for me today. At 5.30pm I found myself feeling bored but instead of looking for a snack on the kitchen or putting the TV on, I went and did a 20 minute workout. Built up a little sweat before dinner and cured my boredom, win win!

Incognitoburrito88 · 04/04/2025 18:52

I’m feeling a bit disappointed- I jabbed at 9:30 this morning. Had to run to the toilet in Sainsbury’s earlier but other than that no symptoms and I’ve just eaten my normal dinner - I was kind of expecting to want to leave some of it… I know 2.5 isn’t supposed to be a therapeutic dose but there are so many people on here reporting suppression by 5 pm on the day of their first jab I was really hoping to feel the same… is there a correlation between lack of early response and being a true non responder I wonder 😢

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 04/04/2025 18:53

Just got the email saying my pen is dispatched and arriving tomorrow. I’m excited and nervous but more nervous. Not so much about the side effects (although they do sound pretty bad for some folks and I really can’t be out of action with a full time job and 4 dc at home) but more nervous that I’ll be one of the 15% that it doesn’t work for. (I don’t know where I read that statistic? It might not even be true?!) I guess only time will tell.

this is a brilliant supportive community here so thank you everyone for posting.

Hey! I have four kids and a busy job too. I’m on holiday for two weeks now though - hoping to settle into my new way of life before I go back to work!

screamingsiblings · 04/04/2025 20:15

@Incognitoburrito88 me too.
I only had an apple for lunch as I was super busy, but cooked a normal sized portion by accident/habit and ate it all. Then had ice cream for pudding.

My first jab was yesterday.

I’m now fighting the urge to have my usual Friday night glass of wine. Really hoping we both wake up unable to eat tomorrow 🤞🤞🤞

WHY DID I DO THIS TO MYSELF, I searched Mounjaro on FB and all that came up was horror stories now I’m to scared to do my second jab - im pretty sure the majority of the people who had the horror story situations were either lying about their weight/BMI and m/or getting it from untrustworthy places.

I definitely have a raised BMI and I’ve got it from medexpress (they aren’t a dodgy company are they?)

WHY DID I DO THIS

SusanSometimes · 04/04/2025 22:05

Hi all, I'm joining in if you'll have me Smile

I took my first dose this evening, very excited to get started. I had some dodgy blood test results a few weeks ago, fatty liver and prediabetes and my GP told me I have to lose weight. I wouldn't let her tell me my weight, but she did say I'm firmly in the obese category and two stones up from a year ago.

So on Monday this week I had a DEXA scan, before which you get weighed. I decided to get brave and look down at the scales and it gave me an awful shock. I've never been so heavy. I'm very tall, and I was in denial about my weight. I still can't share it on here, not yet, even after a change of username.

By Monday afternoon I'd decided on a supplier, filled in my form and uploaded my photos, which I'd locked myself in my office to take! I got approved late Monday evening, and received my pen today.

The injection was easy, didn't hurt. Let's hope it works and I don't have too many side effects. I'm so happy I've finally started this journey.

mjaronewbie · 04/04/2025 22:10

I am on the 6th day of my first week. Definitely feeling hungrier tonight - eaten more than in the last week : hope I haven't ruined everything but still not as much as normal.

I had some side effects- felt very tired at times, a bit of an upset stomach and weirdly a bit emotional but all completely manageable and definitely worth it if I loose weight. I also felt pleased that I am finally doing something about the weight and excited about what the future may bring.

I have been taking a multi vitamin, vitamin D, biotin and marine collagen (which tastes awful lol).

A bit nervous about the weigh in tomorrow.

Anyway I hope everyone is doing well. Come on - we can do this!!

Skinni · 04/04/2025 22:19

At the end of the day its calories in calories out - so I still need to be conscious of a calorie deficit and I am looking at it that MJ is my 'willpower' all I have to do is eat well.

Its good that people re flagging up the hunger/appetite returning on days 6 and 7 ... regretting starting on a Monday now as weekends too much temptation - but maybe I will be able to swerve and say no thanks without being that nagging chat in my head.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 04/04/2025 22:27

@TC4Medexpress are reputable and relatively thorough, when new processes came out to improve safety and security their processes were already compliant

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 04/04/2025 22:28

@Skinniyou can change your day by one day a week either way to gradually move it to the best day for you

RhaenysRocks · 04/04/2025 22:30

Day three and still really happy with my lack of interest in a creme egg or later, bread and dip at a restaurant..I had grilled chicken kebab with salad and extra salad instead of rice.
Also, quick thing ..I rediscovered Bovril as a drink this winter. It's high protein and I think not much else. Very satisfying.

No they are not a dodgy company at all. Read some of the other threads on Mounjaro on MNs to recover and step away from FB 💐

Thank you, I mostly saw positive stuff on here and wish I had only stuck to here instead of FB hopefully I can put it all to the back of my mind and carry on - the amount of positive things I’ve seen have definitely outweighed the negative but the negative always just sticks in your mind doesn’t it!! Anyway I did my second dose after some encouragement from my partner so on to the new week now 🤞🏻🤞🏻

What are you worried about happening? Remember, nothing is forever. If you get side effects, you can stop taking it. Worst case scenario, it will be a few days of chucking up, no worse than any virus.

But best (and statistically most likely) case, your blood sugar will level out, and you will lose weight and feel stronger and better x

Edited to say, MedExpress are a very normal company. My cousin, Auntie and BF have all been on their products for weeks / months (both Wegovy and Ozempic), with no ill effects or dodginess.

I believe you can change your injection day, so long as it has been st least e days since you last jabbed. So in theory, you could jab again anytime. Obviously you'll "lose" a few days money-wise, but it shouldn't be unsafe, and might help you.

This isn't based on any studies, but I wonder if in part, some of the non-responders acted differently, in terms of the food they ate, for example. So if you start, and pair it with having more healthy fats and protein, is it a springboard? Even if you are a low responder? Compared to if you satisfied any hunger you did have, with appetite-stimulating sugar? Just thinking "out loud". Either way (and touching wood for you), the odds are in your favour. Hope it goes well for you tomorrow.
