Looking for advice. I've lost just over a stone on Mounjaro since Feb. On three occasions, especially since moving up to 5mg, I've felt quite sick and then had what looked like blood and mucus in stools. I haven't had this before. I wondered if it could be undigested red foods but I'm not sure. Has anyone else experienced this?

Mucus could be IBS or inflammation, blood should be checked by your GP though. I'm sure it's nothing serious but definitely worth getting investigated further

OntheTrainX · 12/04/2025 20:04

@TheArtfulCoralWriter I’d see a GP but maybe try a few days of no red foods first? I don’t think anyone on here has posted about this particular thing, but that doesn’t mean that there’s something to worry about. Hopefully a GP can set your mind at ease or arrange some tests which will reassure you.

OntheTrainX · 12/04/2025 20:06

Anyone read this yesterday? A positive article on the whole.

www.theguardian.com/society/2025/apr/11/people-using-drug-mounjaro-sustain-weight-loss-over-three-years-trial-finds

WoolerOwl · 12/04/2025 20:15

Yes, I read that and also found it encouraging. I know that there is a risk of gaining it all again. But there are bigger risks, in my view, of not even trying to lose it, or continuing to gain. I have fatty liver and my joints were really suffering. Cholesterol high. Blood pressure creeping up.

About 10kg lost (21 to go) and I feel and look so much better already. I have to do this.

I am trying so hard to establish healthy eating patterns, especially no snacking and just two sensible meals a day. I am much less afraid of being a bit hungry -- whereas before I think I used to eat pre-emptively. And for comfort.

I would be fine with titrating down and then continuing on a very lose dose for a while as well, to cement the good habits.

I've also started getting rid of clothes to the charity shop as they get too big. I can't go back.

Will appreciate long term group chat and support on Mumsnet!

Marypoppinsisnosaint · 12/04/2025 20:52

I know we all love a NSV. Mine tonight... I could wrap a bath sheet fully around me, no gap!

Only you lovely little will understand that one.

I'm going to need to focus on that Monday as I know the scales aren't going to be kind this week.

My weeks gone a bit to pot. The kids have been off, I've been off work, I've not meal planned/prepped properly and the sun's been shining.

I've not gone mad but I've not tracked as thoroughly as I have been and I've drank far less than I should have.

Back to work tomorrow so back on it tomorrow 💪💪

Hi all, have just caught up on the whole thread after being on holiday. It means that I had 10 days between injections as I didn’t want to bring it with me, and tbh I feel like I’m not doing as well on 5 mg. I took my last dose when I got home, I still have a golden dose but have another 5mg pen in the fridge as I ordered it weeks ago when it was ok!

I might inject every 6 days on the 5mg just to get back on track. I’m eating more and getting more hunger and tbh I feel “normal” 😔 It’s so hard in school hols I feel - I drink more, I don’t do as much exercise and routine is out of the window.

feeling a bit downhearted and low this morning after realising I’ve only lost a pound in the last 2.5 weeks

Choux · 13/04/2025 08:51

I think 5mg is where reality sets in as so many people feel they don’t do as well on it. With the first dose of 2.5mg many people feel the suppression of the new medication, they are motivated to eat right on this new diet and they often see big losses in the first week or two.

They move up to 5mg after a month and think it will be like the start of 2.5mg but often it isn’t. They won’t get the initial big losses like they did on the first dose of 2.5mg, the monotony of dieting might have set in, they have had to negotiate an even or two that has thrown them off track like a big night out or a party. And they know what the suppression feels like and want it all day every day so the diet is easy.

i think (as someone who has been taking it for a year now) that 5mg is still early days. The stronger doses you will move up to give more suppression - plus I think over time your stomach shrinks so even on the days with less suppression you can’t eat as much - but you still need to find your rhythm of making good food choices and managing your behaviour on nights out, 4pm snack time or whatever is your risky time.

5mg is where you realise that it won’t just happen by magic and it can be disappointing. But you have probably already got further than you ever have before in your goal to lose weight. So just keep the faith and keep going with each days good food choices and you will get there!

Week 10 day 1 and weigh in day. 2.4lbs off this week.

SW 14st 2.6lb
CW 12st 8.4lb
Total loss 22.2lb

Feeling happy with that. I'm only 5ft 3 so I still have a few lbs to go till I am overweight rather than obese.

Taking 5th dose of 3.75mg today (bonus dose from 5mg pen) plan to stay on 3.75mg with the next pen as I seem to be doing well on it.

In terms of injection sites I kind of just go round in a circle... left tummy, right tummy, right thigh, left thigh, back up to left tummy. So different every week. I can't say I've noticed any difference whatsoever.

PurpleFlower1983 · 13/04/2025 09:02

I’ve stalled. Started 5mg on Friday and am due on my period any day now so I know it’s all related. I also had a sickness bug the week before last so lost some fake weight then that I’ve gained back.

Lost 14lbs as of today’s weigh day.

Hi @Ohsoverytired11have you gone over the 30 days with using 3.75 doses out of your 5mg pen? This is what I'm wanting to do go from 2.5 to 3.75 with a 5mg pen?

Hi nope not at all. Take my first dose on day 1, then day 8, day 15, day 22, and fifth "bonus" dose on day 29.

Bless you for this. I really needed to read that this morning! I haven’t lost anything this week, and that is the first time. Will definitely go up to 7.5 mg next month. I stayed on 5mg because the constipation was bothersome in the first month, and I didn’t want it to get worse. Of course, it’s resolved. It was just my body getting used to the medication.

I am keeping the faith! I’ve lost a lot of weight. I look great, particularly in the face. I had a photo taken today with a friend, taking an icy dawn dip, and I didn’t wince at the image. Onwards and downwards!

Happy Sunday, fellow warriors 💐

The thing is there aren't that many post use studies as yet. I read a study that showed that in a group of those that had used these type of drugs to lose weight then came off the medication whilst yes some put the weight back on many did not or had a small bounce back then levelled off. Those that did the best gradually reduced the dosage over time before coming off completely.

So for me currently I have done 2 pens at 2.5mg and been steadily losing. My losses have slowed in the last couple of weeks so am thinking of ordering a 5 mg this time and just take an inbetween dose and see how I go. I have needles etc to take my bonus dose which I know will be inbetween as well. I think I take 45 clicks for 3.75mg.

I intend to get to a weight that is in the healthy range and that I am happy with then gradually titrate down from whatever level I end u at. Maybe even go to 1mg a week and maybe even 1mg every two weeks till finally coming off.

I hope by then I will have habits of smaller portions and less snacking and more exercise to keep me on track.

Can you please link the study where people tapered off as I've seen this mentioned on here before but can't find it online. I didn't even think people in the placebo group of the surmount trial were tapered off so would like to read other evidence. Thank you. 😊

Hi
Iv been on 2.5 since I started in Feb and am probably going to stay on it, it seems to be working for me with hardly any side effects, even though weight loss has slowed down, which is not a bad thing as I lost quite quickly in first month.
I'm asking for advice on doing the extra jab iv never done it but am thinking of doing it today. I have the syringes but what is the dose and is it easy to do?
Thanks

narkyspirit · 13/04/2025 12:06

week 10 and 2 days since jab, stayed on 5mg this time but noticing suppression isn't as good as previously. next pen will be 7.5mg

Height 161cm (no change)
SW 95.9
BMI 36.99

CW 86.7
BMI 33.45

Loss 9.2 Kg
averaged 0.92kg a week loss 20.27 lbs

I would like to lose another 9 kg which should give BMI of just under 30.

Hangryfastjo · 13/04/2025 12:51

@PerditionCatchMySoul you sound quite similar to me. I have the 5th dose to take out of my 5mg pen, then another 5mg pen. I'm wondering whether to do every 6 days, or to try for 6mg out of my 5mg pen. And then I wonder if I'm arsing with it too much 🤣

The extra dose is pretty easy to do, (and I’m a squeamish wimp!) the dose is 0.6 on my syringes it’s 60 (equivalent to 0.6) I did link a video which was quite helpful quite a while back. I will see if I can find it for you.
Im also still on 2.5, sounds like a very similar journey to yours.

ExplodingCarrots · 13/04/2025 18:22

Where is everyone getting their insulin syringes from for the extra dose ? Some of the ones on Amazon seem hit or miss .

CallIpswichNow · 13/04/2025 19:14

@ExplodingCarrots I got these ones — I think I was following someone else’s rec on these threads. medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles/?attribute_pa_quantity=10

I had about 3 weeks where I had to stretch doses out - so it was 8 days between 2 doses and then 9, just because I was away. So I’m going to do the next pen 6 days, see how I feel on that once schools go back, im more
organised, kitchen renovation has finished and I generally feel on top of life again! And then I’ll assess if I want a 3rd 5mg pen or to go up to 7.5….

let me know what you will do!!
