Hello all, am in my third week of taking MJ and finding it a total revelation around my relationship with food.

I know some of it may be placebo effect, but I’m less bothered by food, not reaching for snacks for the sake of it and am choosing healthier options when I’m shopping or cooking.

I also feel more awake than I have in a long time, which could be the change in diet maybe?

I’m in this for the long haul with a good eight stone to lose.

SW: 119.3 at 43.8 BMI
CW: 117.1 at 43 BMI

Not too many side effects on 2.5mg so have ordered my 5mg pen.

MooBaggage · 25/03/2025 13:31

Hello @ANutAsBigAsABoulder ! We are about about the same starting BMI and I also have around 8 stone to lose, so yep, we'll still be here this time next year 😊

It's amazing, isn't it, the huge change to thinking about (or not thinking about) food - I'm 11 weeks in and am still blown away by the change in my mindset. I am so hopeful for the future now.

MooBaggage · 25/03/2025 13:37

My increase to 6.5mg after about 6 weeks on 5mg has done the trick - injected yesterday and am back to really good suppression today and feeling calm and in control, so am very happy! I'm doing another week of 6.5mg, then a week of 7mg (basically, what's left in the 5mg pen!) and then moving to 7.5mg, where I hope to stay for a good while.

NSV, but almost annoying, is that my size 24 M&S (too small for me when bought) work trousers that have been hidden away almost since I bought them, are now really far too big, so I think today (in the office) will be the last time I can wear them as they're baggy and I keep having to hoik them up - have only managed to wear them 3 times since buying them 🙄😀

Have ordered a new pair in a size 20, which will no doubt be a bit too small - but I have hope on my side..!

MooBaggage might be a silly q but can I ask how you inject higher amounts using your 5mg pen? I’m on my second 5mg pen and am going up to 7.5mg next pen. Have got 2 doses (plus extra dose) left in 5mg pen and ideally would like to inject 6.25mg for the next two doses. How would I do this? Thanks 🙏

alwaysscared · 25/03/2025 14:06

Oh my god, my husband (naturally skinny) buys lots of treats to eat. It hasn’t bothered me until just now. I DESPERATELY want to eat a chocolate covered custard cream from M&S! It’s jab day tomorrow, and the dose is just not working. I WANT TO EAT ONE SOOOO BAD!! But it wouldn’t just be one, that’s the problem! Please tell me to step away from the treat cupboard!!

Glad it is working well for you so far. Just incase you don't know as some pharmacies imply you should move up the doses and sometimes posters regret moving up when the previous doses was working.

You do not need to move up doses unless you want to, anyone who is managing to stay in their calorie deficit on 2.5mg can stay there for as long as they want to.

It is good to order the 5mg as the price different is not much and it gives you options mid month, such as taking 2.5mg from it, or 5mg or even somewhere in between.

With a long journey ahead it makes sense to stay on a dose if it is working so you don't run out of doses to move up to.

Hi - yes I just divided the remaining amount in the pen by 3.

So I had a 5mg pen and had one normal dose of 5mg from it.

Including the extra dose, that left 20mg in the pen, so divided by 3, equals 2 x 6.5mg and 1 x 7mg (totalling 20mg).

Each full dose is 60 clicks of the pen, so last night I did a full dose and then 18x clicks (for the additional 1.5mg).

Took lots of double checking on a calculator and dp double checked my maths..!

Because I use the extra dose, I can do the 2 x 6.5mg doses, then a 7mg before moving to the 7.5mg pen. Hopefully makes the transition easier and gives me the suppression I need.

Hope that all makes sense!

Makes perfect sense! Thank you - I’ll do the same
And well done on the baggy work trousers 😂

alwaysscared · 25/03/2025 14:15

I want to try doing 3mg on a Wednesday and 3mg on a Saturday. I only have 5mg but figure with the bonus dose I could do it.
Can people let me know what insulin needles I need to buy? And what the maths would be for getting the extra out?
Would this even work out?
Am I making sense?

RobinEllacotStrike · 25/03/2025 14:27

PSA - Timpsons will put new holes in a leather belt for no charge - they just asked for a coin donation in their charity collection tin. They added 3 holes to my leather belt for me.

I'm suddenly feeling quite slim (I'm still BMI "obese" but its all relative I guess).

5stone/30kg down - 3stone/20ish kg to go!!!

WeAllHaveWings · 25/03/2025 14:27

@alwaysscared I don't think anyone knows enough about this medication to know if injecting with it twice a week regularly is safe to do or if it might cause issues. The half life of the medication has been designed for a 7 day schedule. Personally it is not something I would do regularly without further information from a reliable/qualified source.

I have seen pharmacies recommending injecting on a 5 day schedule, but only temporarily if someone is struggling and maybe have a couple of doses left in a pen, before going up to a higher dose. They would not recommend it longer term.

alwaysscared · 25/03/2025 14:35

@WeAllHaveWings yes, that makes sense. I’m just really struggling with the hunger 😫and I’ve asked my doctor twice if I can go up and they have said no because my blood sugars are so good

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 25/03/2025 21:09

Thank you @MooBaggage - it’s great to hear from other people with similar amounts to lose. I was looking at the March board but most people seem to have a lot less weight they’re looking to shed. Some are starting with BMIs I’d love to be, it’s all relative though I know.

And thank you @WeAllHaveWings for the dose increase info. Will definitely keep it in mind. I would like to go up to the next dose at least, but won’t be rushing to increase month by month if I don’t feel the need.

Am going to go back and have good read of these threads as there’s a lot to pick up.

Jumping back in to share this video which made me smile earlier - sort of a reverse WLI bingo card!

When I started MJ October last year I had a BMI of 45. I've lost around 25kg and I now have a BMI of 36.6. I've still got a long, long way to go though. I don't really have an end goal as such yet, just a series of interim goals based around key memories for me. I'm currently on 12.5mg but this has been a pretty recent change- I was on 10 for a while but it had started to wear off.

My only real annoying side effect to date is that I am permanently freezing. I'm sat here with a wool duvet, 4 fluffy blankets, a wool blanket, the cat and I am wearing pyjamas and a thick fluffy cardigan. I am absolutely freezing. I leave the thermostat on 23 degrees. DH (not under the patio yet, sorry!) has started wearing shorts in the house. Disclaimer- I do live on the Scottish west coast though!

SilenceInside · 25/03/2025 23:24

@ANutAsBigAsABoulder I know what you mean about people with starting BMIs that would be a target for me. I started with a BMI of 50, and I've been losing weight on Mounjaro since the start of July, and my BMI is still in the obese range, currently 33. I regularly see people who are just starting out describing their horror at being a BMI that I am delighted to have got down to. But, it is a big deal for them, so I just try to virtually bite my tongue and don't post on those threads or engage with those comments.

WeAllHaveWings · 25/03/2025 23:33

@alltablenochairs there was a chill in the air tonight (also west coast Scotland). I was telling dh we need new windows because it was freezing. He had a short sleeve t-shirt on 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thisshirtisonfire · 26/03/2025 00:02

I wish I was getting the freezing side effect! I'm so hot all the time.
I'm losing weight well. But I'd really hoped to experience being cold as the weather got warmer.. but no! I'm still a sweaty mess!!

Loveachoc · 26/03/2025 03:22

@Thisshirtisonfire how far are you in your journey? I say this as a person who NEVER got cold. However when I hit the 80kg or so mark things switched rapidly. I couldn't live without about 3 layers on in the house with the heating on.

DrinkReprehensibly · 26/03/2025 07:43

I've just got to 3st lost (been on MJ since late Sept) and at least another 2st to go before I'm in the top of healthy BMI. People are starting to notice now and ask questions about how I'm doing it. I'm so relieved to see people post about how cold they get though! My heating bill has gone up and I'm regularly wearing my winter PJs due to feeling freezing so often!

InfoSecInTheCity · 26/03/2025 08:34

Well done @DrinkReprehensibly!

just finished day 1 of couch to 5k, not an elegant jogger, imagine Phoebe on Friends, but did it.

MooBaggage · 26/03/2025 08:53

I get a bit shivery in the first couple of days after injecting, and want the heating on more, but then it does down and I'm OK for the rest of the week.

Does anyone else get a weird sense of smell for the first couple of days after injecting?! I've noticed I get a real sense of rubbish smell all the time - I can smell an unpleasant smell everywhere, even though I'm sure there isn't?! That dies down too - I think it's my body's version of mild nausea?! 🙄😀

StrongerEveryDay · 26/03/2025 09:15

I have a question, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask. I'm taking my 4th shot today and have lost 10 lbs. so far. It seems common for people to lose a lot in the first month and slow down after that.

If I continue to do "the right things" - lots of walking, weight lifting 3x a week, some HIIT, lower carb diet, smaller portions, etc is it possible to consistently lose 10lbs a month or is that unrealistic? I used to be very athletic in my 20s and 30s, and would like to return to that lifestyle but appreciate that it won't be quite the same now I'm in my 60s. 😊

I started out at 19 stone and my goal weight is 11 stone.

I probably lost 10lb a month for the first couple of months and then had a plateau where I only lost 1lb a week for a few weeks. Its picked up again now. I started 7th October and my average is 2.2lb a week which officially works out as 9.5lb a month

WafflingDreamer · 26/03/2025 09:43

@InfoSecInTheCity can I ask what your current weight is? I've never run before but I'm quite keen to start as I think it would be nice to let my eldest child 'help me' learn to run. I'm worried about messing up my knees and have no idea what would be a good starting weight.
