Hi,

Anyone on WLI and in the slow lane v. welcome here for a bit of plodding supportive chat!

Plodders, bobbers, plateau-ers, stallers and stuck ducks come on in! Would be great to chat with others who are in the same boat, ie travelling at the speed of snails on their WL journey.

I have a mountain to move (nearly 5 st), am not ready to give up on Mounjaro yet and would love a bit of company here on this long haul to reach a healthy BMI. 🦥 🐌 🏔️

Come join me if you have a long way to go (either due to slow losses or amount to lose) and would like some peer support to keep going when the scales are being stubborn. It’s hard being on WLI when it’s not working as well for you and progress is slow or stalled. This is a safe space to share anything, the good, the bad and the side effecty. Anything positive (scale or non scale related) as well as freedom to vent and grumble as much as you want

If you taking WLI and trucking along nicely or nearly at your goal weight that is fantastic but please post on a different thread.

I'm waiting for my HbA1c result to be loaded to the GP app, my cholesterol has gone down but not fast enough so think I am going to have to have a chat with the nurse about that.

@Redlightbulb I requested a check up just a year after the last one, and my GP was fine with that, mind you I saw the student Drs and not a GP.

Orangesandlemons77 · 19/05/2025 12:28

Still plodding along here, got under 80kg for the first time though which is good!

I had some routine blood tests the other day and noticed by HB1AC is 31, I have never been diabetic but it used to be around 36-38 so apparently it was 'normal' but is now 'optimal' according to some guides online.

Quite pleased about this.

Mine was 45 2 years ago and my GP failed to tell me and I'm furious as it makes me prediabetic! I only found out 2 weeks ago when I moved to a new GP and they updated my online app access to get all my records. I'm going to ask for blood tests as haven't had any done since! I have lost 2.5 stones so hoping its improved it now

Well today is my official mounjaro 1 year anniversary and I’m delighted to say I’ve finally inched into the 10st bracket at 10st 13.7. It’s there, I’ve seen it and I’m logging it!! I’ll probably be fighting to keep it for the next month as that’s been the nature of my journey the last 5 months. It usually shows me a glimpse of a lower weight once or twice a week then cruelly goes up again for a number of days before eventually giving it to me, then moving down another tiny bit. Anyone else’s weight do the same?

Doggymummar · 21/05/2025 13:29

Yes. Happens to me all the time. Congratulations on your losses! 😀

Angie7654 · 21/05/2025 13:54

@Doggymummar thank you so much! You too ☺️

tryingtobesogood · 21/05/2025 15:47

@Angie7654 thats amazing. Congratulations. My scales do that too, tease me with a lower number, bounce back up then come down again. Drives me mad.

Mine does exactly that! I will be down a pound, delighted with myself, then back up a pound for a few days then finally after 5 or 6 days I will be down it again. Very annoying but I am getting used to it now.

Letshavetea1 · 23/05/2025 09:25

Morning I all - my weight does this too. I’m averaging around half a pound loss a week. I lose about two pounds a month consistently which I’m fine with as it’s gradually going and I feel so much better!

tryingtobesogood · 24/05/2025 12:28

Morning, today I tried on some jeans from the back of my wardrobe, they were in the back because I bought them a couple of years ago with the idea that I would slim into them, which of course I never did.

today I put them on, did them up and did a happy dance. They are still a little tight, and because of the way I carry so much fat in my belly they really show off some fat bits, but I reckon I will be in them in a few weeks, though maybe with a long top over my belly

7.5mg appears to be a sweet spot for me, at the moment. But it’s made me realise that staying on lower doses is good for some but maybe not me. I have another 6 weeks of 7.5mg but I am now open to the idea of going up again if I need to.

going to put the jeans back in the cupboard but a little closer to the front.

@PlodAlongPolly It says 310 replies so I'm sure it's fine, isn't it 1000 max?

@tryingtobesogood I have to move up otherwise they stop working weeks 5-7 for me, 2.5 on lasted 2 weeks for me and then I get ravenous but I've been prediabetic for years but didn't know until 2 weeks ago as my GP didn't tell me and I found out from the new app when moving to a new GP! My HBA1C was 45. Finally explains all the symptoms of feeling faint and shaky and headaches and dizziness when not eating for a while.
So I definitely needed a higher dose to correct my sugars and it was when I got to 10mg and im now on 12.5mg and have had no side effects throughout.
There are lots of people who need higher doses with insulin resistance so there shouldn't be pressure to stay on low doses as its not effective for everyone, I see so many comments saying they lost stones quickly and stayed on 2.5mg and not to move up. I see it differently, why waste money on a dose that isn't working.

Menobaby79 · 26/05/2025 01:14

Hi all, 👋 new to this thread so looking for advice and opinions. So I started MJ 2.5 starter dose a week ago last Saturday, along with my partner as he and I have gained considerable weight in the ten years we've been together. So we both bought some from Medexpress.
Partner says he's feeling like he's not craving snacks eg crisps etc or wanting to eat from boredom, he's doing well eating healthy.
I, on the other hand am feeling the fullness side of it after meals but craving sugary rather than fatty foods, eg honey on brown toast, jelly sweets etc.
I know these are probably terrible things to have on the MJ, my partner is being much more sensible. I just struggle to find things I like. I used to love chocolate and cheese but don't care for those anymore which is a good thing at least! 😂 I work night shifts which doesn't help to be honest as I'll take a bag of the jellies to work.
Is it unusual to still want the sugary stuff?
I wasn't really expecting that.

Letshavetea1 · 26/05/2025 06:34

@Menobaby79 - I hope you don’t mind me suggesting you’d be better off (for now) joining the May starters thread for ongoing support from a group of people who started their journey with MJ at the same time as you.

This thread tends to be to chat about about issues from those of us who have been on MJ for quite a long time and have slow losses but are still ‘plodding’ along. You are welcome of course though!

May Starters Thread 2 ~ heading into summer! | Mumsnet

Hi all...as the first thread is filling up I thought I'd start No.2 Come along to share experiences, vivid dreams, nausea remedies and celebrate each...

Ah thanks @Mysticmaiden I couldn’t see the number of replies for some reason, (is back now). We went away for half term week and didn’t want to miss setting up a new thread if needed but is all good! 👍

Completely agree with your post too, people shouldn’t feel pressure to stay on the low doses if they aren’t effective, many of us need to be on a higher dose for the meds to work. I definitely need the progression through the higher doses, even just to maintain when the losses stall. That’s good you found out about the prediabetes via a new GP registration, I hope the new GP is supportive of your WLI journey. It’s great that the jabs help with correcting blood sugars, hopefully this will give us all good long term health benefits

Hi @Menobaby79 you’re v welcome to chat with us here and like @Letshavetea1 said it might also help you as a new starter to join the May starters thread for going support as you’d be in good company with others starting out too. To answer your query about sweet stuff my own experience has lurched from one to the other - being completely off sweet stuff initially (mostly during the first couple of months) and then sweet tooth came back with avengence! Then off again, then back again 😂 I can pretty much time it with monthly pms but also have other stuff going on like peri, underactive thyroid and insulin resistance which I think also has an effect. I also hoped to ditch the sweet tooth for good but have made peace with having less than I did before and the urgent need for sweet things has (thankfully) gone. The getting fuller quicker helps too, for example I wanted a pudding after a family meal out last week but just went for a kids portion (small choc brownie slice and 1 scoop ice cream) ended up sharing half with my DC and didn’t feel hard done by which was a win! 😂 So I think the jabs really can help to have less sweet stuff even if it doesn’t curb the desire completely 🙂 I hope that helps and all the very best on your WL journey!

Great win @tryingtobesogood! 😄👏 Keep going, won’t be long til the jeans are in your regulars pile! I’m a fan of tunic tops (longer tops), I think I’d continue to wear them even if skinny tb honest as they look nice and are v practical 😊 George ASDA has some nice longer length vests and tops

I haven’t quite got there with next size jeans yet, but my old comfy jammie bottoms are now so baggy they are sliding down, so think I need to retire them!

I'm thinking of coming off MJ mainly due to cost reasons and also the plodding issue- have just got under BMI 30 from starting at BMI 40 as that is a real improvement overall though.

I'm also thinking. about splitting my 15mg pens to get the most out of them and maybe taking 5mg from them. I guess I could then start again in future if needed, I would just need to start with a low dose again I suppose.

I'm 48 and not looking to be super skinny anyway, just a bit healthier really. BMI 27-28 would be fine for me I think.

If you are now under 30 BMI, you would have to gain weight to start again with a company though, as they won’t accept you under 30. Taking 5ml doses from your 15 pen is a good call for maintenance. You may have plodded (I haven’t seen your weight loss history), but you have made brilliant progress in getting down from 40 BMI. That’s a lot of weight loss 👍

Great result for coming down to bmi 30 from 40 @Orangesandlemons77 and if you want to restart again you know MJ is an option, might be worth having a chat with your prescriber to see if they have a process for restarting ie within a certain timeframe like 6 months or something. Splitting the pens is an option but would probably reduce effectiveness so depends on whether you want to lose a bit more before finishing or split the pens and go for maintenance? You might be fortunate and carry on getting losses on 5mg though, could be worth giving it a go. You’re very welcome to keep posting here even after stopping WLI to let us know how you’re getting on, as an honorary member of Plodders Club! ☺️

Morning plodders

The scales are not moving this week. I’ve sts which is normal if frustrating as I am away next week and was hoping for a few more lbs off before I go. Hey ho. That is the way of things. I have lost 22lb, 3 inches from my waist and dropped a size in clothes in 3 months. so pretty good really, if slow.

@Orangesandlemons77 well done on getting your BMI down 10 points, that’s a huge achievement. I wonder if you will continue to lose when you come off. I have wondered if I have learned enough about how to eat over the last 3 months to go it alone but I’m not sure I am quite ready yet.

one thing that I need to do but am avoiding is exercise. I usually love exercising but still find it so hard at this weight. Maybe when I’ve lost another 20lb. I’m also trying to not be so hard on myself. I work full time in a new busy and demanding role that I have been working towards for years, and I have recently gone through an incredibly difficult period full of stress. I think I need to give myself a little time to get back my mojo. I will get there, and a little self compassion will go a long way to helping me do it.

I am away for 2 weeks next week and there is a pool where we are staying so I am going to swim every day. I think this might give my fitness a boost and help me to do more when I get back.
