Hi

I am starting this thread for anyone that is starting their weight loss in March.

I have read a lots of the other threads and have never ordered until today when I looked in the mirror this morning and did not recognise the woman staring back at me, she looked unhappy and ashamed and quite frankly fat.

I got on the scales and worked out my BMI is 32, until 3 years ago my weight was around 9 stone, I am now 13 stone, peri menopause, an under active thyroid, death of a parent and not bothering with exercise and eating too much has left me like this.

My goal is to get to 10.5 stone by the end of May as that is when my son get married, and then keep going.

So who would like to join me, where we can support each other and go onto bigger and better things in life

Hello everyone!

I've just hit order on my first jab so I guess I'll be joining the March club!

My BMI is 36 and I picked mid-range of a normal bmi to aim for. I know some people aim to land quite low to have room for a few pounds once off the meds.

I always used to be a pear shape, even when a lot lighter so it will be interesting to see how my body shape changes.

SW 230lb / 104kg
TW 150lb / 68kg

Mines just arrived: super impressed considering I only ordered on Saturday!
I've just injected, hoping it will kick in soon.

I go on hols in may so hoping will make a difference.
I'm usually pretty good but I've just had a horrible bereavement and my husband has had cancer and my brain just isn't as focused as it usually can be and I'm in some bad habits. I just needed something to help me 🤞🏻

seasidehunter · 04/03/2025 16:28

Joining in... three bereavements in 2 years, threatened redundancy, the perimenopause, and an injury that prevented regular exercise has left me with a BMI just tipping over 30. Despite getting back to exercise recently, it seems that nothing is shifting the weight these days. Need to get some of this weight off for a family wedding at the start of May and a big family holiday in July.

SW is 12st 12lb. Not sure about my GW - maybe something around 10st, maybe a little heavier. I'm less worried about the weight but more about how the clothes fit and how I feel about myself!

First pen ordered and due to arrive on Saturday. Think I'm going to take it on Sunday evening. My biggest worry is not being able to exercise alongside it - I do quite a lot of training so I'll need to carefully manage my food intake to ensure I'm properly fuelled.

@seasidehunter I have to say, I went to the gym last night I couldn't bring myself to run like normal, so will have to experiment with what I eat tomorrow so I can manage it. Interested to hear how you get on!

I've read mixed things about running and MJ. I'm trying to get back to marathon running (which will be a lot easier if I'm not lugging quite so much weight around on me). Going to try jabbing on Sunday evenings and then do longer runs on Sunday mornings when there is less in my system and I might feel like eating a bit more.

@TheSpoonyNavyReader I went for Vitafit scales after reading this review: https://www.techradar.com/health-fitness/vitafit-smart-bathroom-scale-review-a-usd20-health-hero

I was particularly impressed by the comparisons with much higher end scales. I like that they give consistent readings every time I step on and off, whereas my previous ones gave readings that were all over the place, and it transmits all the data to your phone so you don’t have to write anything down.

How much smart scale can you buy for $20?

Since I’ve not told DP that I’m taking Mounjaro, I’m sitting wondering if I’m going to be paying a price for having pancakes this evening. It is a tradition that he cooks on Shrove Tuesday and normally he will do savoury then sweet pancakes. Thankfully he’s had to go out this evening so the sweet pancakes didn’t get made but he was talking about doing them later - I’ll tell him it’s too late, irrespective of what time.

I still don’t have real appetite suppression but I’m not snacking so that’s positive. I’ve dusted off the old kettlebell and I need to find a short beginner class on YouTube to get me back into it for some muscle building.

I told DH, expecting some challenge or pushback/questionning on the necessity of it, cost or side effects but he just nodded and thought it was a good idea. He knkws how hard I have tried to lose weight in the last 15 years. Then he said he is 15 stone and wants to lose some weight himself. He has never been slim, and I like him as he is, but when I met him he was more like 13 and a half stone. He wants to get back to that. I might be the MJ guineapig in our house!

I ran 3k on the treadmill ok the other day with it. I shall try a longer outdoors run tomorrow and report back.

Finally took my first dose tonight! Did anyone else feel ridiculous naughty, like I'm doing something wrong 😂😂😂. I've never done any drugs in my life, and injecting felt like I was doing something wrong. My heart is still pounding an hour later, but also a weird anti-climax. Praying for a noticeable reduction in appetite and food noise soon!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Edited

My DH was the same! I was expecting him to be dead against it....or even angry but he actually listened and just said to see how I go. He's been really supportive! Like you say, I think he's seen me struggling too.

WithTheFairies · 04/03/2025 20:03

I find it quite a surreal thing to inject myself @poppysocks81 - I think I know what you mean. For me, I think it's because my DH is T1 diabetic so I've always associated injections etc with him. I feel like I've somehow jumped on his bandwagon! Grin

WithTheFairies · 04/03/2025 20:04

Second jab today. I injected into my upper thigh this time and it was completely painless again. I ate a small pancake with spinach, mushrooms and cheese for dinner. Didn't fancy any pudding.

Flaitch · 04/03/2025 20:05

@poppysocks81 I did my first one today too, had been putting it off since Saturday- felt it was an anticlimax Grin Ate my dinner as normal but honestly wasn't looking for it and ignored the pile of pancakes! Told DH not to make too much as I didn't fancy them, but that fell on deaf ears! Hopefully the children will eat them.

poppysocks81 · 04/03/2025 20:08

@WithTheFairies lol, I can totally see how that would feel weird, like you're stepping on his territory!
What is everyone thinking about how you "explain" the weight loss, once you get there? I keep switching between wanting to own it and say I've done the injections, but then also don't know if I can handle the inevitable disapproval, or people watching me for any signs of putting the weight back on after I stop the injections..

poppysocks81 · 04/03/2025 20:12

@Flaitch such a weird moment, I'm not sure what I was expecting...it's not like you inject and suddenly lose 3 dress sizes (one can always dream!). I decided to eat before injecting, but I did have a smaller portion just because I was nervous. I just hope I don't obsess about every thought that pops into my head...

TryingMJ · 04/03/2025 20:26

What’s everyone doing about contraception? I’m on the pill (cerelle) but heard being on mounjaro stops it working.

ShineyGreen · 04/03/2025 20:34

I'm not telling anyone @poppysocks81. If people notice I've lost weight I will just say I've been trying to eat more healthily- this is the truth. They don't need to know that I've been helped out by a weight loss jab! I'm a bit embarrassed if truth be told- I've always struggled with my weight and feel ashamed that I haven't got enough willpower on my own.

Yes! I hid in the bedroom and did my jab. Took forever as I didn’t realise the pen needed eleventy billion clicks, thought it was faulty! And then I had really high heart rate afterwards (Adrenalin I guess!).

I’ll be a Sunday weigher as that’s jab day. I’m lucky - I’ve had no side effects, I’ve had enough energy to carry on with my usual exercise classes and had instant appetite suppression. Had a banana mid morning, a cereal bar mid afternoon and made myself a two egg omelette with mushrooms, green pepper and 40g of Stilton. Delicious! So far it’s the best £150 I’ve spent in a long time. I’m feeling really hopeful.

Hope everyone with side effects feels better very very soon.

poppysocks81 · 04/03/2025 20:37

@ShineyGreen same here! I'm mortified I have no willpower. I am an "all or nothing" person, and live in a busy household where kids/husband have treats lying around and I just cannot help myself.

Flipper1234 · 04/03/2025 20:38

@poppysocks81 @ShineyGreen i haven’t told anyone either. Really helpful that you don’t have to keep the pen in the fridge after first jab so I’ve hidden it in my skincare drawer.

Sleepeazie · 04/03/2025 20:38

@TryingMJ condoms is maybe easiest?

well I’m not snacking, I have barely finished my portions but I did have a hankering for an Indian take away (we NEVER get takeaway) and I rarely eat a mean cause I fancy specifically it, it’s just what I’ve meal planned.

so, I’ve just finished (half) a lamb biryani. It was the nicest thing I’ve eaten in a long, long time. I’m eating mindfully and enjoyed every bite. Although it was the biggest portion I’ve eaten since jabbing on Sunday, I still felt in control.

hoping it won’t precede any sickness 😧 and that I don’t start craving takeaways constantly too 😂 (or that my suppression is wearing off after 48 hours 😧)

poppysocks81 · 04/03/2025 20:40

@Flipper1234 yes, that is helpful, although I decided to tell everyone in my household, just don't want to tell acquaintances!

poppysocks81 · 04/03/2025 20:42

@Sleepeazie that's great that you're not snacking, and even if you just focus on portion sizes, you'll surely be eating way less than usual. Let us know how you feel tomorrow!

Am envious of those that need it 😂

Single menopausal mum here, so if I do get the opportunity to need contraception (ha! Chance would be a fine thing!) it'll be condoms.
