Hi

I am starting this thread for anyone that is starting their weight loss in March.

I have read a lots of the other threads and have never ordered until today when I looked in the mirror this morning and did not recognise the woman staring back at me, she looked unhappy and ashamed and quite frankly fat.

I got on the scales and worked out my BMI is 32, until 3 years ago my weight was around 9 stone, I am now 13 stone, peri menopause, an under active thyroid, death of a parent and not bothering with exercise and eating too much has left me like this.

My goal is to get to 10.5 stone by the end of May as that is when my son get married, and then keep going.

So who would like to join me, where we can support each other and go onto bigger and better things in life

I think it depends on how much you’ve lost as well. Have you lost much on the 2.5 as yet? X

Mmm not sure, although definitely some. Maybe 4 lbs in total. First week nothing happened as I injected wrongly.
I have 2 stone to lose so not really sure what to expect with the jab. I did 2 stone in 7 weeks on Fast 800 so I know I can shift it quickly if I try.

criticalthinking · 08/03/2025 18:09

This seems like a very silly question lol but my Voy app is showing I have 5 days until next injection (Thursday) but I injected Wednesday morning and had thought I would just always be a Wednesday jabber? Or does it mean 7 days between jabs? Silly I know but trying to plan my week. Thanks!

@TotallyFloored it is so much more complex than just feeling full for longer:

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) affects metabolism by targeting two key hormone receptors involved in blood sugar and appetite regulation: GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide). These hormones play a crucial role in how the body processes food, stores energy, and manages weight. Here’s how Mounjaro influences metabolism:

  1. Enhances Insulin Sensitivity
• Improves the body’s ability to use insulin effectively, reducing insulin resistance. • Helps lower blood sugar levels by promoting glucose uptake into cells.
  1. Reduces Glucagon Secretion
• Decreases the release of glucagon, a hormone that raises blood sugar levels by stimulating the liver to produce glucose. • Leads to lower fasting and post-meal blood sugar levels.
  1. Slows Gastric Emptying
• Delays how quickly food leaves the stomach, leading to prolonged satiety and reduced food intake. • Helps control appetite and supports weight loss.
  1. Increases Energy Expenditure
• Some research suggests that Mounjaro may enhance fat oxidation and overall energy expenditure, promoting weight loss and metabolic efficiency.
  1. Reduces Fat Accumulation
• Encourages the body to use stored fat for energy, particularly beneficial for those with obesity or metabolic disorders.
  1. Affects Brain Signals for Hunger and Cravings
• Lowers hunger signals in the brain, making it easier to eat less and reduce calorie intake.

Because of these effects, Mounjaro is used not only for type 2 diabetes management but also for weight loss and metabolic health improvement.

Hi, please can I join?

I've just placed my first order. I can't recall ever being happy with my weight during my adult life, and have never really lost any significant amount of weight ever if I'm honest, it's just gradually crept up over time to me being my heaviest now, 98.2kg. Since starting to work from home during Covid, my eating has been out of control.

Not sure of a goal weight, see how things go. Thank you for having me.

Second jab last night and no side effects so far. I wasn't able to finish my breakfast that I have been happily chomping down for the past few days so appetite suppression is back.

I went with ASDA as MedExpress wouldn't supply me as I've had my gallbladder out but I think I need to find a cheaper option going forward.

Also very excited to get my new eufy scales today, which apparently record all kinds of data.

@MamaNewtNewt - ZAVA are the doctors who cover Asda and apparently they are much cheaper direct. And there are codes on here if you search. I've got UC and planning to swap from ASDA for next injection.

Ok guys bit of a confession, for full transparency. I got on the scales this morning and I’ve “gained” 1.6lbs since yesterday. I’ve put “gained” in inverted commas because deep down I do know I haven’t put on 1.6lbs of fat overnight. But it’s got me spiralling because this is what I don’t cope well with. Seeing numbers go up on the scales- I think “well that’s the point, might as well give up now”. Even though I had such a brilliant weekly loss (8.6lbs) that today’s number still means I’ve lost 7lbs over the week which is AMAZING. My DP said it could be the scales calibrated slightly differently, it could be slight water retention or inflammation- I went for an hour’s walk last night and he said after exercise your body retains liquids more. Not to mention the fact I came on my period yesterday. I guess this is the problem with daily weigh ins, you have to take the fluctuations. I do find it so hard mentally though, I just want to see it go down and down. But I want to be in this for the long run and need to grit my teeth. One thing I am so pleased about is that I didn’t eat the milky bar from the party bag (see my post above) because if I had and then had this “gain” I would’ve been beating myself up and blaming myself. Onwards….

This is definitely the problem with daily weigh ins. I do it too. I did a diet and exercise program a while back where they strongly encouraged you to only weigh every 4 weeks. Clearly, that’s extremely hard but I can understand the reason. On a day to day basis our weight fluctuates but over a longer period if we are following the program it will go down. I think a lot of us, me included, could do with only weighing in once a week or every two weeks. That way these daily fluctuations won’t mess with our heads so much.

i am on week 2 and have been weighing daily. Half way through the week I was getting disheartened because it didn’t seem to be moving much, but I was kind of forgetting it was only 3 days in and there was still time to see results. I haven’t done measurements since I started and will do them tomorrow, so 2 weeks.

i might challenge myself next week to only weigh in on my jab day. Want to join me on that challenge?

Overhaul54 · 08/03/2025 20:47

It's understandable that we have to be aware of weight as the jabs are so BMI focused.
However the Fast 800 and other insulin based diets are more about reducing fat from your organs. Measuring under the bust and round the belly is a good way of seeing the gains in dangerously positioned fat. Having fat things and bottom isn't as concerning as being apple shaped..

Overhaul54 · 08/03/2025 16:29

Its so annoying. I did the same on the first week so you are not alone. You just have to hope the placebo effect works!

Really annoying! Need to properly concentrate next time!

@Autumnleaves4
GPs cannot prescribe Mounjaro currently for weight loss. It is licensed for this purpose but there is a current scramble on to work out pathways as the cost and associated manpower required is potentially enormous despite its obvious long term benefit to the health of the nation. It can be prescribed in GP in certain circumstances for diabetes. If you have a BMI over 30 or over 27 with certain relevant health conditions you can approach a pharmacy ( usually on-line) for private treatment. Your GP can refer you for weight loss support but there are long waiting lists and many hurdles to jump before injections or surgery are accessible.

Thank you so much, I can’t believe so many people seem to know all about this and have been taking it for a while. I will definitely look into it.

I am only weighing weekly too and mentally taking account of it over longer periods. So if I hadn't lost one week then as long as there was a downward trajectory over the month then that's the main thing. I understand the reasoning for daily weigh ins, but it doesn't seem to follow the logic, to me.

6lb off… thrilled!

Overhaul54 · 09/03/2025 07:42

@StoutOldTrout I had the same as you week 1. I was genuinely more hungry especially for carbs than normal.
After the second jab I have noticed that I do feel really full and the cravings have gone.

It’s my third jab today and I noticed yesterday I felt I could eat more. Clearly the effect needs todays boost.

I wouldn’t worry too much. Just eat as healthy as you can when you are hungry. The jabs will do the hard work of making you feel less hungry at some point once it starts working.

dancemom · 09/03/2025 07:54

Weigh and jab day for me!

Jab went fine, stuck with my stomach area

Weighing went even better, I'm down 8lbs! Absolutely delighted with that 😆

Well done to everyone for their amazing losses 👏. I'm weighing daily but recording it all on happyscale so I don't get down about any fluctuations, it actually makes it better!

Not sure how people are off alcohol with the jabs cause I drank my body weight in wine last night! Don't want to eat everything in my path this morning but will see how I get on with a hotel breakfast.

Fairislesweater · 09/03/2025 08:13

Day 4 for me. This has been a total revelation so far. Not bothered about food, not hungry, having to make myself eat, it has helped me massively with viewing food as fuel as now I can just plan what I need rather than what I want. Have joined a gym so we’ll see how that goes. As an aside and this may just be a placebo effect but it’s also calmed a lot of my overthinking. I had ADHD traits and tend to hyperfocus, for example I sometimes obsessively online shop. That’s stopped (for now anyway) so hopefully the cost of meds will be balanced out by less spending elsewhere!!!

edited to add:
SW 13st 12lb
CW 13st 10lb

TryingMJ · 09/03/2025 08:20

Well done for the brilliant losses everyone!

I just don’t know if I could go to weekly weighing 😬

Choux · 09/03/2025 08:36

I have been on Mounjaro for a year and I weigh myself several times per week. At times when I was chasing losses I have weighed myself multiple times per day (the benefits of working from home some days). What I have noticed about my weight which may be true for you too is:

1 in any week my weight is usually lowest on day 4 after an injection. The suppression is stronger for the first few days so I eat less and weigh less.

2 My weight on waking can be 1-2 lbs more than my weight at noon. I rarely eat breakfast so drink a couple of cups of coffee and the loo trips all morning can result in a 1lb loss if peeing only and more if there's a poop.

3 A bit of constipation, eating something salty or eating more carbs really affects my weight. It can be a couple of pounds higher than the previous day but a day or two back on my healthy foods and it drops off again. (Monthly cycles probably impact it too but I am post menopause)

There will always be days where the scales are a little higher. But if you get back to your chosen healthy eating methods the extra numbers on the scale will soon disappear again.

Last summer I went on holiday and dropped my dose from 10mg to 7.5mg for the two weeks I was away. It was all inclusive and I had more carbs and alcohol than normal. I put on 7lbs. I came back, upped my dose back to 10mg, stopped the carbs and alcohol and got back on creative salads and the 7lbs was gone in 10 days.

TLDR: If you are eating a calorie deficit most of the time, the weight is going to go down even if you see minor upticks some days.

ShineyGreen · 09/03/2025 09:18

@TheRealTiger- same with me and headache after first jab. I did my second on Friday night and had a headache on waking yesterday too but it had gone by the evening. Are you a headachey person anyway? I know I am, so this was just another one to manage, I did need to wear sunglasses all day 😂

Weigh day for me. 3.5 off, hurrah! which considering I only felt any appetite suppression towards the end of the week I am delighted with.

SW 17 st
CW 16 st 10.5
GW About 11.5 st I think.

Lovely to have so many of us in this together:)

Overjiggly · 09/03/2025 09:21

Well done @Flipper1234 @dancemom and @ShineyGreen fab losses so far 👏

I'm really trying to hold off and weigh weekly but it's still a long way until Friday so see if that lasts 😄

Choirgirl699 · 09/03/2025 10:05

2nd jab last night and th suppression has been immediate overnight this time, rather than gradual for a day. Really struggled to eat my breakfast but don't want to undereat so made myself. Got that weird feeling like I'm getting poorly feeling a day earlier as well. Hopefully it will pass by tomorrow.

ShineyGreen · 09/03/2025 10:33

I've been using MS Copilot to suggest "low calorie high protein breakfasts" and it has come up with some nice ideas. Off to have poached egg and mashed avocado on toast :)

Has anyone found they have been waking really early and unable to get back to sleep? 5.15AM ish for me a few times this week but I don't know whether this is a) just the birds outside starting to wake up earlier now the mornings are beginning to get lighter b) my HRT estrogen dose needs upping or c) an MJ side effect (not Michael Jackson obvs, I'm not piping up with an Oooh hooo or shamone either so far)

AmusedRoseCrow · 09/03/2025 10:37

Voy are due to deliver today when we have family over haha TYPICAL. Now paranoid everyone’s going to find out 😆

So cool to see so many loses - amazing. I can’t wait to hopefully join that gang

I have super PMS and period due in a few days. Nervous to start taking it right before my period as I get horrible periods - anyone done that before!? Is it okay? Should I wait til after I come on? Thanks
