Hi

I am starting this thread for anyone that is starting their weight loss in March.

I have read a lots of the other threads and have never ordered until today when I looked in the mirror this morning and did not recognise the woman staring back at me, she looked unhappy and ashamed and quite frankly fat.

I got on the scales and worked out my BMI is 32, until 3 years ago my weight was around 9 stone, I am now 13 stone, peri menopause, an under active thyroid, death of a parent and not bothering with exercise and eating too much has left me like this.

My goal is to get to 10.5 stone by the end of May as that is when my son get married, and then keep going.

So who would like to join me, where we can support each other and go onto bigger and better things in life

Midweek update from me, I caved and weighed myself and I’ve lost 3lbs. As a post menopausal woman, who has been trying on and off to lose weight for yonks, I can tell you that the most I’ve managed to lose previously in a week of really trying is about a pound and a half!
Today I’m at my daughters bedside, she had a baby girl earlier (yay), I’m surrounded by sweet snacks and open bags of sweets, and previously such an occasion would involve me inhaling my body weight in treats, gazing through the day. Instead I’ve ignored the food around me, walked to Costa for a coffee and eaten one piece of the sushi I brought for my tea. This is nothing short of incredible for me!

Congratulations on the safe arrival of your Grandaughter.

I hope that Mum and Baby are doing well.

Hello everyone 👋
I would like to join too. Received my kit today and first jab done. I was extremely nervous because of my needle phobia, my heart was racing like crazy. Was surprised how easy it actually was and didn't feel a thing! So far so good.
Starting weight 79kg
Don't have a goal weight in mind, will see how it goes. I will be pleased to lose anything!

Hi guys, I took my first injection yesterday, today I've woken up feeling super achey and sore - anyone else experienced this? Just feel a bit tender and achey around the neck/shoulders area

Ooh I did actually - thought I must have over-exercised but yes just neck and shoulders! It disappeared after a day tho

@TheSpoonyNavyReader how annoying, that's the last thing you need!!
I know I'm only on day 1, and I definitely feel less hungry, but I can't say that I feel uber full after eating. I am eating smaller portions, I could probably eat my usual amount but I'm consciously using this as an opportunity to get back to smaller portions. So whilst I don't feel full, I at least don't still feel hungry after eating! Does any of that even make sense 😂😂 work has been so busy, so my brain is totally overloaded!!

Same here, I don’t necessarily feel full but I’m not bothered about continuing to eat so just have the smaller portion. It’s magic!

@Pipsballoon congratulations to your DD .
I have been fine all day ,apart from some sulphurous burps , but am actually quite ravenous now .
I'm not sure hether my appetite is reduced or not... early days .

Fatmumslim01 · 05/03/2025 18:55

I still haven't decided if Im going to try the jabs, I thought my GP appointment was today to discuss it but it's actually tomorrow.

Does it actually take away the food cravings? Today I ate crisps and 4 biscuits because I was bored and they tasted nice will it help with that?

Yes I actively dislike the thought of bread crisps pasta chocolate biscuits
cale and alcohol and only want fresh unfussy food

Oh another sulphurous burpee! I went to Pilates and it wasn't that pleasant as it seems the sulphurous burps is linked to acid reflux

soupforbrains · 05/03/2025 19:39

@Fatmumslim01 I was unconvinced myself. I thought 'sure the injections might reduce hunger, but I don't only eat when I'm hungry. I eat when I am hurt, sad, happy, as a treat to reward myself, when I am stressed and when I am bored. I like food and it's tasty.' I figured that although not being hungry would help me reduce portion size I thought that those moments when I 'just fancied' something, I would still end up eating a giant block of cheese or sharer bag of crisps because I like them.

I was wrong.

It doesn't just make you not feel hungry, it changes something in your brain. A lot of the time I feel physically full. Like after a big roast or Christmas dinner full. And I don't have those time when I 'just fancy' something. It's like there was a switch in my brain labelled 'food awareness' and someone just turned it off.

On the very rare occasions where I have thought 'now would be a nice time for X' either I've gone to the kitchen and looked at what I have (a wide range of snackable options!) and realised I don't want any of it, or I've had one mouthful and then really not wanted any more.

This from a woman who could (and has) demolished entire multipacks of crisps or a wheel of Brie in one sitting just because I fancied it.

This week has been the most surreal week of my life. It probably sounds stupid but figuring out how, when and what to eat when not driven by hunger and/or wants has been bizarre. Because I am just not feeling hungry ever, I am aware that I can't just not eat.

For reference today I have eaten:

1/2 a small carrot (took two attempts as felt full part way through)

25g of cooked chicken and a tablespoon of sweetcorn

7 grapes.

These were spread across four mini meal times. (9am, midday, 2pm & 5pm)

I am making home made Turkey burgers for dinner. I'm
Hoping I'll manage a whole one but even as I sit here smelling the nice smells of them cooking I feel quite full.

I
am deliberately making myself eat 1200 calories as I don't want a saggy weight loss face!

WithTheFairies · 05/03/2025 19:50

I think if anyone has any lingering thoughts of guilt/self-hatred/shame etc about not being able to lose weight and keep it off through "willpower" (I know I struggle with this!) - think how easy it is to just not eat the biscuits/cake/crisps etc if you just don't really fancy them. It isn't actually willpower - it's just that you don't want them.

Naturally slim people who moralise about people with weight issues really do have absolutely no idea what they're talking about.

I just hope that gradually we will evolve as a society to the point that obesity is seen as the symptom of a disease rather than evidence of weakness.

WithTheFairies · 05/03/2025 19:51

Now I'm off my soapbox - I've downloaded an app called Shotsy where you can track your jabs, weight, calories, protein etc. Might be helpful for others.

I’ve just started a course of CACI to try and avoid saggy face!

Treated myself to a soup maker so I can make veg packed soups and make sure I get my 5 a day. Tried it for the first time today - I may have added a few too many chilli flakes so hoping I don’t suffer as a result! It was good soup tho 😊

dancemom · 05/03/2025 20:40

@TryingMJ are you feeling better?

dancemom · 05/03/2025 20:40

@TryingMJ are you feeling better?

Yes thank you! No more diarrhoea, had a busy day at work, rushing around, I would usually be grabbing “treats” because I was on the go or felt that a stressful day meant I “deserved” them. But do you know what I said to my DP, that I use work being stressful as an excuse to comfort eat, but work is going to be stressed up either way so I might as well be stressed and skinny rather than stressed and fat 😂 I’ve had a protein yoghurt midmorning, a cheese salad bagel thin, lentil crisis (68 cals a pack) and apple for lunch, light babybel for a snack and then vegetable soup and one (!) slice of seeded bread and butter for dinner! And feel full and satisfied.

HappyKatieA · 05/03/2025 21:58

Can I join?
I did my first jab last Thursday, so due to jab again tomorrow.
I echo what @Fatmumslim01 said, I cannot believe that one jab stops all thoughts of food.
I'm on an ADHD diagnosis journey, which is why I don't think I've felt hungry for years, but neither do I feel overly full until I'm so uncomfortable that I'm in pain. I just don't think my body lets me know.
I eat when, what and wherever, it occupies my mind all the time.
This week has been an eye opener, I go to take a biscuit through habit, then put it back as I just don't fancy it.
I haven't had chocolate, Diet Coke, cake, crisps, I haven't even wanted bread.
Last year I lost three stone, and managed to keep most of it off, but I just didn't have the willpower to lose the next three.
So here I am, on the journey with you all.
The only side effect I had was a headache last Saturday, which I never get.

Justformounjaro · 06/03/2025 00:33

I’m envious of those of you who have such good appetite supression. I know that I’m not feeling the urge to snack mindlessly and have broadly been able to eat the type of things I would normally which does make me feel that if I can keep that up long term, I’ll be able to keep off the weight that I lose. In the past, I have found that my weight has been static then jumped in stages: a holiday, a stressful project, Christmas etc, and I’ve not done anything to reverse the gain.

I think I’m in danger of going overboard in the effort to avoid constipation too now @soupforbrains. I might dial the physillum back a bit.

Tranquilitybaby · 06/03/2025 04:31

Just checking in, day three yesterday, felt incredibly tired last night so went to bed at 8.45 and have just woken up at 4.20am!

im finding for me I’m still hungry during the day, which has made me feel a bit ☹️ at times as I was hoping to not feel like that much as felt a bit picky yesterday. For me the postive thing is I do feel suppression when I eat dinners, I start and then full and can’t finish it.
I do have 5 stone to lose so I think in my head I want to see big losses each week but if I’m feeling hungry I’m not going to.

We’ll see what happens I guess as I don’t want to go up the doses ideally, I want to stick to 2.5mg as long as possible.

does anyone weight daily?

lastnightadjsavedmylifee · 06/03/2025 06:49

This injection is magical! Kids got a McDonald's last night and I wasn't tempted...at all, even when they left their chips. Straight in the bin. No urge to hoover the lot up. Went for a family meal last night and was happy waiting when most others got a starter, wants ravenous wanting to have a lick of everyone else's plates. Wasn't tempted by desserts. I feel like a whole new person.

I seen an interview with Oprah (I think, can't remember now) talking about ozempic and she said something along the lines of "I always used to wonder how all these people eating healthy and avoiding snacks had such amazing willpower and were so mentally strong and now I realise...they're actually just not bothered by it". I think that sticks in my mind a lot with this. I've always been in awe of DHs amazing discipline/willpower/portion control...now I've just realised his brain doesn't feel the same as mine!

tryingtobesogood · 06/03/2025 06:50

@Tranquilitybaby I have 5st to lose as well and am resisting the urge to weigh daily. I want to focus less on weight loss, to just get on with it and it to just be easier than all the other million times I’ve tried to lose weight.

I have accepted that I might need to increase the dose to see the losses I want. everyone's body is different and I will do what I need to do to reach my goal. I don’t ever want to be here again.

tryingtobesogood · 06/03/2025 06:52

But those burps are something else 😂😳

ShineyGreen · 06/03/2025 07:07

Thanks @soupforbrains for kind words about willpower. And all the interesting discussion since. It’s one thing knowing logically that I just need help with weight management and might not find it as easy as others, but actually feeling it? Much harder!

Tomorrow is jab day. I haven’t had any suppression at all this first week which I’m disappointed about. I might have lost two pounds tomorrow when I get back on the scales but that’s via hard work calorie counting and it’s been just as bloody miserable as every other time I’ve done it 🤣 (sometimes v successfully- I got within a few pounds of my target weight a few years back, but it was hard going).

For anyone else calorie counting, what are you aiming for? I’ve gone for 1600 to start off with.

Hoping that tomorrow’s jab brings better things.

ShineyGreen · 06/03/2025 07:13

Ooh plus someone else upthread mentioned being period free for three months in menopause and stopping contraception. A family member thought similar and ended up with baby no 4, youngest child was 18 and about to leave home for uni 😮😭🤣. I think I read that it’s only once periods have been missing for a year can we be confident that they won’t come back. My last one was back in May last year so I am really hoping that the next few months are also period free!
