Hi

I am starting this thread for anyone that is starting their weight loss in March.

I have read a lots of the other threads and have never ordered until today when I looked in the mirror this morning and did not recognise the woman staring back at me, she looked unhappy and ashamed and quite frankly fat.

I got on the scales and worked out my BMI is 32, until 3 years ago my weight was around 9 stone, I am now 13 stone, peri menopause, an under active thyroid, death of a parent and not bothering with exercise and eating too much has left me like this.

My goal is to get to 10.5 stone by the end of May as that is when my son get married, and then keep going.

So who would like to join me, where we can support each other and go onto bigger and better things in life

Joining in!

My first ever injection is being delivered later this morning. I'm post menopause, BMI is 40. I'm 5'8" and just under 18st. My ideal weight is 11st.

I'm a bit nervous about side effects etc. I am already a bit active though not active enough. I walk, swim once or twice a week, and lift weights. I can't wait to see what it feels like to exercise without carrying around all this excess weight!

Greetings to another post menopausal person! I feel exactly the same - want to see if it’s easier to exercise without the massive tum in particular.

my first jab was Sunday just gone and I have no side effects so they don’t happen to everyone…

Oooooomph · 05/03/2025 10:47

oops weight mistake - just under 19st!!!

lastnightadjsavedmylifee · 05/03/2025 10:49

Hi I'd like to join please!

SW 184lb
GW 150lb

Had my first injection yesterday. No side effects yet but I think it's kicked in. Didn't eat chocolate the second I woke up or making the kids breakfast. Had an a healthy breakfast after drop off (I'm using prep kitchen high protein meals) and didn't want to go straight for chocolate after either. It might just be psychological but something is working!

Need to keep on top of my water intake though.

What are the foods that are recommended to avoid? Going for food with family tonight (I've not told anyone I'm using) so want to make a sensible choice re side effects.

flipflop76 · 05/03/2025 11:21

I'm a week in now and did my second jab this morning. I've lost 5lbs in the first week!

SW 17st
CW 16st 9

@ShineyGreen @poppysocks81 but that's the point! It's not about not having the willpower or not trying hard enough. Everyone has different levels of these hormones in their body naturally. If MJ works for you then it just means that you're naturally deficient in these hormones. There are people out there who lack the 'food noise' all the time. They've never had it.

It's nothing to be ashamed of just as it's nothing to be ashamed of if you have an under active thyroid, start treatment and lose weight.

That said I know that not everyone views it this way and so I too am not telling people generally. If I lose weight and people notice and ask I will just say 'I've been really dedicated' because I have. But I need you yourselves to be kinder to yourselves!

I absolutely love this! The Oprah Winfrey podcast about GLP1s made me realise this too! Need to keep saying this to myself. I've only told hubby and one friend.

Oooooomph · 05/03/2025 11:44

I'm not telling anyone aside from my DH, who has agreed to keep it completely secret. Our relatives can be very judgey and my weight is often discussed behind my back (and sometimes to my face) as a great failing of mine. Most of them are naturally very slim and think anyone who is overweight is lazy, gluttonous, lacks willpower, etc. They seem to enjoy smugly looking down on anyone who is even slightly larger. Not the nicest people IMO.

I've very recently started a lower carb/higher protein diet along with upping my exercise, so if any comments are made I will attribute the weight loss to that and shut down any further discussion.

How are you all approaching your eating now you’re on injections?

I east reasonably high protein anyway, is the carb tracings in the evenings that have always been my issue and why I struggle to lose weight.

I can’t decide whether to just calorie count or maybe join Team RH as seen they do a GLP 1 plan but not sure what it’s all about.

Please don't try Team RH. They aren't very nice. Download Nutracheck - there's a free version or its about £30 a year. It's really user friendly and there is a chat room on there if you need support.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 05/03/2025 12:15

I've decided to take the plunge and am waiting for mine to arrive.

SW - 191lbs (BMI 27.4)
TW - 155lbs (BMI 22.2)

I'm on two types of blood pressure medication plus I've got achilles tendinitis and a bad knee. I've been overweight and unhappy my whole life and it's time to change.

I am training for a marathon which is in a month's time and even a few lbs off before then will help.

To outsiders I probably don't look overweight, just a bit on the chubby side because I'm 5ft 10 and I run a lot. But naked isn't good. All my weight is between my belly button and my knees.

I'm going to continue to use Nutracheck to track my food. Overall my diet is good for protein and fibre, I just have no pause button and can easily do 6-7 chocolate products.in the evening. I'm tired of feeling this way.

dancemom · 05/03/2025 12:30

No further toilet trips this morning so hopefully that was a one off.

Day 4 and still feeling the suppression. Last night I had half a grilled steak burger and a few bites of salad. Today I've had a cuppa and half of my yogurt and granola. Will probably have some scrambled egg for lunch to try and get some protein in.

I had a sneaky mid week weigh in and it was very positive but I'm not record it and will stick to official weigh days to actually record

Lordofmyflies · 05/03/2025 12:55

Im going for Friday am weigh in as well. Intrigued to see what's come off in the first week. It's defiantly taken the edge of hunger pangs!
I'm managing so far to stick to overnight oats and nuts/ berries for breakfast, a thick soup and sourdough or healthy sweet pot wraps for lunch and a protein and veg for dinner. Having protein yogurts for a snack if needed.
So far no side effects. Will do jab 2 on Friday eve.

MamaBanana12 · 05/03/2025 14:07

Hi guys, I took my first injection yesterday, today I've woken up feeling super achey and sore - anyone else experienced this? Just feel a bit tender and achey around the neck/shoulders area

GameOfJones · 05/03/2025 14:24

I've also got the mirena coil for contraception. It was fitted before I'd considered mounjaro but the bonus is that the jabs don't interact with it. From what I've read the issue is with the contraceptive pill and mounjaro affecting its absorption but other methods of contraception are fine. So probably condoms if you don't want the coil, injection or implant.

I've got my first pen in the fridge waiting until Sunday but I have to admit I'm really eager to start. I am planning on sticking to Sundays for now though as I think that'll work best for me so just trying to hold off at the moment.

Did anyone watch the "Skinny jabs" programme on Channel 4 last night? I have to admit I was nervous before I watched it as I thought it would put me off them but if anything it made me sure I'd made the right decision. The programme essentially said they are a safe drug but there are issues with people lying about their weight or their age to obtain them which obviously is an issue but doesn't apply to me. So it actually helped me feel more confident about this as a course of action.

blahblah789 · 05/03/2025 14:40

Hi everyone
Taking my first ever dose tonight, got a couple days off work so hoping any side effects will pass by the time I’m due back in.
I’m so nervous!
Any top tips or things you’d have done differently early on?

Sleepeazie · 05/03/2025 14:46

@MamaBanana12 i had the same feeling. Gland area of neck also. It was mild.

j wasn’t sure if it was the jab or muscle ache from carrying a back pack. I had read others said they had the same though, so I didn’t worry.

I jabbed Sunday and it’s already passed for me.

soupforbrains · 05/03/2025 15:01

@MamaBanana12 I'm also very achey in the neck and shoulders. It hadn't crossed my mind that it could be MJ related I just assumed I'd slept wonky!

soupforbrains · 05/03/2025 15:02

Oh and I've had the coil for years so that's how I will continue to manage contraception. Slightly ironically I got it because I was fed up with 'messing with my hormones'.

tryingtobesogood · 05/03/2025 15:11

the kit arrived just now and I whipped it out of the box and jabbed my leg. Don’t know how anyone can wait 😂 I just hope it works as I’m 100% sick and tired of my weight.

WithTheFairies · 05/03/2025 15:12

I'm approaching 24 hours since my second jab and I'm feeling slightly queasy and have a bit of a headache. It is very hot in my office though so that's definitely not helping!

So far today I've eaten/drunk:

2 coffees with milk
1 homemade carrot cake breakfast muffin (no added sugar)

Packet of cheesies
Small clementine

3/4 slice of toast with peanut butter
3 large strawberries

3 pints of water

SharpOpalNewt · 05/03/2025 15:55

I can't remember who asked about running but I said I'd go for a run and report back. Went for out 45 minutes today and just found it the same as usual, there seemed to be no effect on ability to exercise from the Mounjaro.

Over time I hope it will have a positive effect of course as I should be able to run easier when I'm lighter!

TheSpoonyNavyReader · 05/03/2025 16:18

Afternoon all,

I can confirm that MJ makes no difference when using a rowing machine, I only managed 5 mins and that is what I could only do before!

I had a bagel thin for lunch today with ham, I feel so full.

On a completely different note I lost my car key today, so got an auto locksmith coming in a bit. So bloody pissed off.

poppysocks81 · 05/03/2025 16:23

@TheSpoonyNavyReader how annoying, that's the last thing you need!!
I know I'm only on day 1, and I definitely feel less hungry, but I can't say that I feel uber full after eating. I am eating smaller portions, I could probably eat my usual amount but I'm consciously using this as an opportunity to get back to smaller portions. So whilst I don't feel full, I at least don't still feel hungry after eating! Does any of that even make sense 😂😂 work has been so busy, so my brain is totally overloaded!!

The only thing I've noticed is a slight dull ache in my arms. TBH though I have been trying new stuff in the gym and I couldn't be sure it wasn't down to that.

Pipsballoon · 05/03/2025 17:15

Midweek update from me, I caved and weighed myself and I’ve lost 3lbs. As a post menopausal woman, who has been trying on and off to lose weight for yonks, I can tell you that the most I’ve managed to lose previously in a week of really trying is about a pound and a half!
Today I’m at my daughters bedside, she had a baby girl earlier (yay), I’m surrounded by sweet snacks and open bags of sweets, and previously such an occasion would involve me inhaling my body weight in treats, gazing through the day. Instead I’ve ignored the food around me, walked to Costa for a coffee and eaten one piece of the sushi I brought for my tea. This is nothing short of incredible for me!
