Welcome to thread 8 to MN weight loss friends old and new!
Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we Spring forward into a new season...and consider new swimwear and Summer Wardrobes ❤️

I’m on W17 D3 and on my fourth 5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 6.4 lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look like a melted candle)
Total loss so far 32.6lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.
Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

I also take the non weight stats with a pinch of salt but I love seeing them move from red to yellow to green.

Goldleafcat · 17/03/2025 11:24

Mounjaropen · 17/03/2025 11:08

Well mine still say I’m 55 which is two years older than I actually am so I hope not 😂

DH is still in his sixties according to the scales and he is actually 55…😳

Mine tells me my metabolic age is 51, which is 6 years older. Eek. Hopefully as we come down in weight it will adjust.

(definitely taking the stats with a pinch of salt! Though agree it’s nice to see the trends)

DarkForces · 17/03/2025 11:30

Summerbod25 · 17/03/2025 10:32

@DarkForces do you think the Renpho scales are fairly accurate? I use them. It’s fantastic seeing your metabolic age decrease and all the stats. But I’ve always taken the stats they give with a pinch of salt…

I'm assuming they're a decent guide as they're in line with my me360 measurements but can't stress over every measurement!

I definitely take this with a pinch of salt. Feels pretty meaningless me but I did knock ofg a year last weigh in! I'll take any win 😂

TeenLifeMum · 15/03/2025 15:31

Today’s weigh in is 10st 7 - 2lbs to go to tip into “healthy” bmi. I’m determined to achieve that before the end of the month when I turn 43!… but also really fancy a McDonald’s banana milkshake and I’m out for dinner tonight with alcohol 😬

On the down side, life took another dip following mum’s cancer diagnosis. A week later and dad’s joined the party with a lung cancer diagnosis. 2025 isn’t my favourite year so far but we’ll get through it. Some good news would be nice right now though.

So sorry to hear this.

MounjNewb · 17/03/2025 12:41

For those looking at how to pack protein intake in to your day and not enjoying some of the grainy yoghurt options, I've just tried a new Sainsburys' 'Protein' youghurt option and it was pretty good. 15g protein in 165g pot with total 125cals. Not grainy at all, not too sweet and 'clean' ingredients.

itsnotagameshow · 17/03/2025 12:58

Goldleafcat · 16/03/2025 12:50

This is fantastic, especially finding the difference in the hike. It really goes to show how much easier it is to be active when we are lighter.

A vicious / virtuous cycle depending on how heavy we are!

Definitely, I just did my very first session of couch to 5k, got out of breath but no aching calves going uphill and only vaguely sweaty by the end of it. I have no doubt that previously I would have given up half way due to turning beetroot, being soaked in sweat and with my back and legs screaming to stop. I even felt at one point that I could run further. Miraculous.

Summerbod25 · 17/03/2025 13:00

I have seen my metabolic age decrease from 2 years older to 3 years younger following the weight loss…

If you say the stats are legit, I’m happy with that! 😅

TeenLifeMum · 17/03/2025 13:01

My weight fluctuates massively. Saturday I was 10st7 - today I’m 10st 11 and feeling like I’ve gone backwards. Saturday night we went out for dinner but I had vegetable green curry and tenderstem broccoli on the side (no rice) with one cocktail, water and a jasmine tea. No dessert. Urgh, this last push feels like pushing a rock up a hill.

I feel your pain, but the science is with you if you are counting your macros/calories vs TDEE, you will get there. Numbers are just numbers on a scale, I am working hard to tell myself that! Flowers

TeenLifeMum · 17/03/2025 15:40

@itsnotagameshow i think I’m going to have to begrudgingly concede I need to do some running again… but it’s cold and it’s boring. 5 years ago I was running a half marathon.

I paid for the premium Me360 as I realised that my measurements in December had disappeared. Annoyingly once you pay it smooths out with an algorithm your weight as opposed to just sticking with what you just entered. Very annoying. It has me at 158.4 when I am 157.2...and right now I am ALL about good news only 😭

Google AI tells me this about metabolic age:

What is Metabolic Age?
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR):
Metabolic age is based on your BMR, which is the number of calories your body burns at rest to maintain vital functions.

Comparison to Age Group:
Your metabolic age is determined by comparing your BMR to the average BMR of people in your age group.

Factors Influencing BMR:
BMR is influenced by factors like muscle mass, body fat percentage, and overall physical activity.

Health Implications:
A lower metabolic age (meaning your metabolism is functioning at a level comparable to younger individuals) is often associated with a healthier metabolism and a lower risk of health problems.

How Scales Measure Metabolic Age:
Body Composition Analyzers:
Smart scales or body composition analyzers can estimate metabolic age by measuring your body composition (muscle mass, body fat percentage, etc.) and using that data to calculate your BMR.

BIA (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis):
These scales use a small electrical current to measure the resistance of tissues, which helps determine the amount of muscle and fat in your body.

Tanita Scales:
Tanita is a well-known brand of body composition scales that measure BMR and metabolic age.

How to improve metabolic age:
Increasing muscle mass and improving your diet and exercise habits can help improve your metabolic age.

Important Considerations:
Not a Medical Term:
While metabolic age can be a useful indicator of metabolic health, it's not a formal medical term.

Not a Substitute for Professional Advice:
Consult with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian for personalized advice on improving your health and fitness.

Focus on Overall Health:
While metabolic age can be a helpful metric, it's important to focus on overall health and well-being, including a balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate sleep.

Hope that helps!

Woohoo! Well done!

I ran at the start of my treadmill walk today. Did 0.5miles at 6mph pace without too much issue. Going to up by 0.25 tomorrow and again on Wednesday so that I am back to being able to comfortably run a mile at 6.0mph as I was in my early thirties. I think it also helps to challenge your body in different ways to try and get the weight off. I am now able to do press ups once more and I can plank without too much issue. Also a bloody miracle!

Just a quick update on week 14 weigh day….3lb off yay😁

I am 1 itty bitty pound off my 3 stone, so hopefully get that next week.
I have 3 more doses in my 3rd 5mg pen and unless things change I am going to stay on 5mg as it continues to work for me…I can eat good filling meals, making good choices, with no diminishing suppression as week goes on.

Feel really well, and continue to loose inches in the places I measure each month, neck, chest, upper arms, waist, hips, thighs, knees, calf, ankles and foot….it’s unbelievable 11 inches off waist and 9 off hips😱

Still have a massive amount to lose but I can see it in the mirror now myself and in my clothes, so pleased

Hope everyone is doing well….x

namechangedyetagain · 17/03/2025 20:47

I've missed nearly a whole thread! I've not been on much as have a lot of stress going on which isn't helping life in general. One thing I have kept up with (just) is my jab. I have now lost just over 3 stone since November 2nd which I'm really pleased with. Have just taken my first 7.5mg jab tonight but wish I had stuck with the 5mg as it seems to be working, though due to stress I have had whole days when I've not eaten. This isn't good for me I know but I am in a bit of a bad place at the minute so the fact I'm still existing day to day is for now enough.

I'm quite liking my new shape, I'm still a good 16/18 but I feel much more comfy r. I don't think I would with much more loss though I'm still technically obese. My neck however seems to be very saggy indeed and I've lost my boobs!
Something I have noticed is how much easier it is to walk and how I'm not in so much pain with my dodgy ankle after walking. I need to work up to long distances but the difference is amazing.

I'll try and check in a bit more often. I need to keep some kind of normality.

On protein yogurts...

I quite often have a snack of greek yogurt with a spoon of PB Fit peanut powder in it. It's basically just peanut butter with the oil removed, no weird ingredients.

Peanut yogurt may be an acquired taste but I like it and it's filling. I don't find it grainy.
Powder is also great in porridge, mixed with frozen banana 'ice cream', added to smoothies, cookies... My household gets through a lot.

A serving of the powder is 60kcals, 2g of fat and 8g of protein.

IHateMozzies · 17/03/2025 22:41

Lidl do a nice strawberry 20g protein yogurt as well. It’s my daily lunch at the moment.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 18/03/2025 07:48

Morning! I am happy because the sun is shining and I’m wearing a pair of Topshop black cords in a size 12 that haven’t fitted since 2016 (and if I’m honest were ridiculously tight even then). I’ve also got the new bra I ordered on, and it is a revelation to have my boobs back where they belong. It’s very odd for me to be going down a cup size instead of up. It’s like the boob or bust method in reverse.

Ooh good call! I used to use that powder to make snickers flavoured overnight oats with a dash of maple syrup, cocoa powder and nut milk. Really tasty and really filling. And the PB powder isn’t full of UPF either.
