Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

@Reginaphalangeeeee @DearRaven

Thank you!

I hope everyone is having a good week 😁

No symptoms since Saturday so I will keep my fingers crossed, although interesting about the 24-48 hours, as it was probably about 30 hours after the jab. Will see what this week brings!

I was very surprised to be moved up if I’m honest. I suspect it was because I had 3 weeks of no losses (I had a really heavy period so no surprise and I wasn’t concerned). They sent me the new injection, then on the final week of my 5ml I started losing again!

Has anyone had any experience of getting additional injections sent out early? I’m working away for 6 weeks in the summer so will need to take them with me as there is no facility for parcels to arrive.

JBJ · 28/05/2025 16:12

I’m convinced I already typed a post on Monday’s weigh day, but I can’t see it so clearly didn’t press post!

First injection of 7.5mg this week and had a banging headache ever since, plus zero appetite. Struggling to hit 1000 kcals a day at the minute.

Tipped over the 3st loss though, which makes me very happy. I bought a denim maxi skirt in a size 18 in the sale, then looked at it and it looked tiny, so thought there was no chance it would fit. Well it does! Can’t go anywhere to actually wear it though, as my head means I daren’t drive at the minute, but I like to put it on and look in the mirror 🤣 I was in a size 22/24 when I started this, so I’m delighted to have dropped so much in size.

meatyryvita · 28/05/2025 16:31

@JBJ same for me - first week of 7.5mg and I'm struggling to eat (never thought I'd ever say that!!). I had a protein shake at 9pm last night because I'd eaten so little.

Well done on the milestone and your denim skirt - what a thrill it must have been to pull it up and feel it glide over your hips!

Bear2014 · 28/05/2025 16:39

They finally put me up to 7.5 as I've lost less than 2kg this month. That's even with taking some extra clicks of the pen so I do hope that actual 7.5 makes a bit of a difference. I think I am at a sticking point because I'm roughly the same weight that I managed to get down to pre-pandemic and I haven't been lighter since before kids, about 12 years ago. So that is pretty cool to think about.

JBJ · 28/05/2025 16:39

@meatyryvita yep, I’ve not really struggled to eat much throughout this whole journey. 12 weeks on 5mg and I was still getting hungry, but making sensible choices. This week, so far, I’m not fancying a thing! It’s a very odd feeling indeed! It’s the headache that’s killing my more than anything at the minute. Hoping that’s a temporary side effect. I’ve always had a headache for a couple of hours after injecting, but this has been 2 solid days now and it’s driving me crazy.

bluesmartie83 · 29/05/2025 16:00

I took my 3rd dose of 7.5mg Tuesday morning and oh my it is properly kicking my backside! I am so tired - I even had a half an hour snooze in my lunch break today. Had a noticeable feeling of nausea but this fatigue is unreal. Struggling to eat so little and often has been the way forward. I hope this eases - I have been pretty symptom free so I can’t complain. I have however lost 5lbs over the last 2 check ins which is fab!

JaceLancs · 29/05/2025 17:05

I’ve just signed up for SheMed - have about 7.5 stone to lose
Done guided blood test and waiting to hear from them
Not sure what to expect as yet - SIL lost 5 stone on Mounjaro but did through med express
Any tips?

kittykarate · 29/05/2025 17:14

Hi @JaceLancs nice to have you along!

Tips:- Read the Ts&Cs of your Shemed subscription, know when you're supposed to check in (depending on your subscription, it can be weekly or a longer time period), understand when you're going to be charged for things (this is done when your pen is requested initially, and then shortly after your questionnaire is submitted on week 3 - so your first month is a 'short' month, then it's four weekly)

Don't be afraid to ask questions in this thread !

Don't judge yourself by someone elses losses (especially randos on the internet!). Some people it works awesome for, others it's more of a slow and steady plugging away. Some people it completely flicks a switch from the first jab, others it can take a little while to build up.

OneAzureMaker · 29/05/2025 19:25

I've found with each dose of 7.5mg, I have now had 4 the side effects and feeling of exhaustion has got worse!

I have struggled with side effects throughout but my 3rd pen of 5mg was fine.

Mazd323 · 29/05/2025 23:09

I’m due to go away soon and have annual travel insurance with my house insurance. Just wondering has anybody told their travel insurance company that they’re on mounjaro?

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 30/05/2025 09:03

Morning! I've just realised it's been a while since I've posted (child doing GCSE's has eclipsed everything in this house!).

Second week of taking a full 7.5 dose (I had 3 weeks building up) and losing about 1kg a week now which is good but I am aware I'm not eating enough. I don't want to make myself eat more as I don't want to lose less - but I'm a bit worried when I finish I won't be able to eat much without putting weight on!

Total weight loss is now 3.5 stone!!
TW - 18 stone 3
SW - 21 stone 10
Next goal - to not be "morbid" is under 17 stone 10 - so another half stone.
Jab 21 - 7.5mg

@Mazd323 I think its worth telling travel insurance as they weasel out of anything don't they if they can. I haven't got personal experience though.

@OneAzureMaker and @bluesmartie83 I am struggling with exhaustion after the jabs too! Just about making it through work and supporting my daughter and that's it. I was hoping it would wear off though so maybe it gets worse before it gets better?? (clutching at straws maybe). I've not had other symptoms other than the blinking burps (on repeat - some days stinky some days not) . I'm eating breakfast and evening meal to make sure I have something in me as not always sure what is fatigue from not eating enough and what's the mj - or maybe its both.

@JBJ Yay for a 3 stone loss! And size 18 - that's very exciting and very definitely "normal shop" territory. I hope to join you in a few months! Has the headache got any better? Is anything helping?

@Reginaphalangeeeee Are you on 7.5 now? How is it going?

@tinyemmy How is the maintenance going - did you work the dose out you needed in the end? Are you at goal now?? So impressed with your journey :)

Oh I was talking sizes with a few of you that had similar starting points to me (Regina and One?) a couple of weeks back and have realised that I can actually wear some 22/24 tunicy tops I have (granted its seasalt so stretch) and they look nice - so actually maybe it is more visible than I think! Also work my Proper Coat for the first time in ages and ages and it had Actual Space in it rather than being difficult to do up. On measurements I've lost about 20cm off most hip/waist/chest so it is working. I have just been in stretchy clothes for too many years so they've expanded with me I think!!

I'm really excited that being "Not Morbid" is now in sight.

I'd love to hear how everyone is getting on - those of you with a lot less to lose than me might be getting closer to goal weights? Lots of us went up to 7.5 - hope that's going okay for everyone. And that side effects are manageable.

I did jab 21 today and realised what a journey we've been on from deciding to go onto the jabs, to the initial month and side effects/wondering if it would work to it now being something we do. Another month and we'll be pretty much half way there - eek!

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGardenwoken up with only a very mild headache this morning, but head still feels fuzzy. Hoping I’m not going to have a 4 day headache every week! Well done on your 3.5st, that’s a fantastic loss. The amount I’ve not been able to eat this week, I don’t think I’ll be far behind you! Not liking 7.5mg at all at the minute.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 30/05/2025 09:14

I'm glad its improving but 4 day headaches don't sound good at all - did you message Shemed at all in case they had any wisdom?

OP posts:
Bananaramram · 30/05/2025 09:18

Finished my fourth jab from my 7.5mg pen - been prescribed a second one.

I’m now in the 80s (barely), which just blows my mind. I’m getting some loose skin now on my thighs - hoping that continuing to lift weights twice a week will help with that. I always thought my legs were toned but they were just hard fat lol.

Sw: 110.7kg / 17.43 st
CW: 89.75kg / 14.13 st

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 30/05/2025 09:38

Wow Banana that's amazing! You must look so different! I think when I started I was aware I'd have stomach skin but it was only a month or so in and looking at weight loss pictures I realised I'd have thigh skin. Sounds like you're doing the right thing with the weights! Well done!

I'm still doing my daily walking - and often doing an hour without any problems which was unheard of before. I went to London for an appointment earlier this week and we decided to WALK THE 35MINS (and back!) instead of catching a tube which just wouldn't have been feasible for well - years...!

OP posts:
tinyemmy · 30/05/2025 09:46

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden good to hear from you. Well done in the weight loss. Good luck with the GCSEs and hopefully you will feel energised soon.

I finally put in my right to choose for ADHD and autism, I'm hoping that comes through in a few weeks. I'm hoping that medication will help as I do believe a good amount of my food noise was ADHD related.

I dropped down to 2.5 too early, the first week I lost weight the second week I stayed the same so I decided to take 2 doses of 2.5 on the third week and I ended up going on holiday just about at my goal weight, before I went away I took what was left in the pen which worked out about 3.16mg. Thankfully SheMed let me go back up to 5mg which I brought on holiday with me but I decided to just take 2.5 so that I can still eat whilst away. I have also asked to move from Wednesday jab to Monday and will probably jab another 2.5 then. I want to lose a couple more pounds so whilst I still want to lose weight I will jab 5 and then drop to 2.5 or halfway between to see if I can maintain. I definitely need a bit more data to figure out what my maintenance dose will need to be. I will report back when I know more!

It has been so wonderful being on holiday slim. My stomach is very crepey with lots of loose skin. I'm hoping things will tighten up over the next year.

I'm also 21 jabs in, it is flying by!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 30/05/2025 09:54

Oh Tiny I am SO pleased for you with the right to choose - it has honestly been life changing for me. Both to now be able to confidently say "I am autistic/have adhd" and the drugs! Lots of "life changing" happening this year!

I have wondered if when I am at goal weight the ADHD meds would be sufficient for maintenance (and cheaper) but not sure with my level of weight loss -it might be for you? I guess it is one of those things where everyone is different but I think it helps for a lot of people and I suspect for me its both elvanse and MJ working. Certainly my head is so clear - I read somewhere it is like wearing "glasses for the brain" and it does feel like that. I hope it all goes smoothly for you - there are a lot of forms but it is so worth it

Sounds like you Have A Plan with the jabs and now it is just "finetuning" . Not that we should think officially this but while on the plan at least if you are prescribed 5 you can "choose" what dose to take whereas you can't if they give you 2.5. Yay for holidays and yay for being slim :) So very exciting!

Fingers crossed for us both on the ADHD medication front. I am looking forward to wearing the glasses!! I suspect I will need to stay on mj for the inflammation benefits, but we shall see!

Yes, I am a little worried about getting kicked off but I won't be telling them and I think fine tuning is the way forward for maintenance. I will report back on how it goes on this next pen!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 30/05/2025 10:42

Yes good luck with the finetuning and the assessments. I hadn't thought about the inflammation - I'm sure that's why I'm walking. Hopefully long long term I will be able to stay on a lower dose than I end up on. Or its cheaper once everyone is on it...!!

Oof, just done the 3rd dose of 7.5 and it's potent stuff. Forcing food down me at this point!

5lbs down from the first two doses, 1lb away from the 12st bracket which is just absolutely mental. I was 16st in January. I feel like a completely different person 🥹

Ah thank you @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden
You are doing so well!!! Glad the 7.5mg working for you.
I have now been prescribed 7.5mg which will be for next week.

Just took last dose today from my last 5mg pen (total 20 jabs complete).
With my most recent 5mg pen, as I was disappointed not to move up to 7.5 I have been adding extra clicks to each dose.
I did this by injecting the normal full dose, then changing needle (wiping in-between again) and choosing another locations for the extra clicks.
1st and second week I did 10 extra clicks, then 3rd week an extra 15 and today 20 extra clicks.

I wasn't sure how it would actually work today having used extra doses. 20 clicks was all that was drawable from the pen so I did that and then used a diabetic syringe. I extracted the last 0.6ml. ‘Golden dose’ you can't click and inject without a syringe.
This takes my 5mg pen to about 6ml per dose instead. I was happy with this stepping stone incase anyone else in same situation as me and wanted to know how it pans out.

So since Jan:
20 jabs
SW 136kg BMI >45
Current weight 111.2 BMI 37.2
A total loss off 24.8 kg
Which is so close to 4 stone

I guess more importantly that is 18% of my body weight. They say notable health changes at 5%, significant at 10% and know the vast majority of us are well over that now.
In the studies, people lost this amount in a year. I am so pleased just half way in time on the programs and approaching half way in weight loss too.

However…..
I can not pretend it is all rosey here.
I am
Fully of shame and feel guilty for loosing my mojo a bit.
I hope next week with 7.5mg it may restarts.
I think school hola and kids being home not helped.
It's broken my routine of meals, snacks and exercise.
I truly feel ‘cant be bothered’. I’ve opted outbid the gym even when I have had time. I have eaten macdonnads with kids rather than buy something healthy.
I have given into biscuits, not pushed nearly enough protein nor veg or fluid.
Iam angry at myself as I know this is not good enough & don understand my brain. I am desperate to loose weight, have every opportunity in front of me and still I feel
I AM lazy 😩

I give myself some comfort that I have not binged, I am hormonal and today my extra snacks were peanut butter on crackers & I have turned down all sweets. It's just I have this old feeling I used to have that I just want to eat nice things, not even that hungry. Sometimes I cant be bothered to eat. I know this approach also not good.
I know all the things I should do. Doing it 6 months on is hard.
Are you all as motivated as you were? maybe the 7.5mg will get me there again. Maybe once my period has come/gone I can feel on top again.

Talk of ADHD is making me
Contemplate myself. Can food noise really be ADHD.
I have only just started reading. I know some traits. I also think I am dealing with life changing weight loss and grief alongside a busy working mum role. So maybe I don't.
Does MJ help?

JBJ · 02/06/2025 09:05

2nd 7.5mg injection this morning. Taken a pre-emptive dose of painkillers in case the headache hits again, as last week it was 4 days long!

4lb off this week, so 3st 4.5lb in total. Just done my measurements and I’ve lost 3inches off my chest, 8 off my waist and 6 off my hips! Going to have to buy a lot of new clothes soon I think.

Good luck for this week everyone.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 02/06/2025 10:18

@BruhWhy Wow 16stone - 12 stone - you must look (and feel) amazing! How close to goal are you? Hope 7.5 is going okay.

@Reginaphalangeeeee Yay glad you are finally starting 7.5 next week and the increased dosing sounded a good move. (I sort of did that the other way with my first 7.5 pen doing less clicks). Useful to know about the syringe - I've been wondering if I move off Shemed after the trial ends (all dependent on cost I guess) I'd want to use the "golden dose" to get my monies worth!

4 stone and 18% is INCREDIBLE - you have truly done amazingly, and through a difficult time too. I wish I could give you a hug and say you are doing fab. I get the doubts at various times. I think if we are realistic about doing this long term there will be weeks it is harder, or weeks there are birthdays or celebrations, or weeks the kids are around or even just weeks we feel crap (around my period mainly!)

-Super overstepping the mark so ignore this paragraph if you want to!!! -
I want to take the words "not good enough" or "lazy" out of your brain and reframe it. That kind of negative self talk really doesn't help. Maybe something like "I've had a week where I've needed to be with the kids and enjoy doing things with them and this is great! I've been the mum I needed to be and one week won't affect my (amazing) progress. It's not a "slip" its just adjusting to the ups and downs of life. Wow I've lost 4 stone and stuck at this for 6months, I'm so doing this right... Today I'm hormonal and I need a sweet treat - I will have this whatever and truly enjoy it knowing that I don't need them everyday but having one when I really want one is okay. " If this week you feel like some more gym or planning protein meals that's great - but do it because you know its making you feel good rather than out of punishment. (Not at all to meaning to minimise your feelings of feeling rough)

@JBJ Hope the headache doesn't come back!!

I've weight today (not check in day) and I'm 18 1 - Another 4 lb and I will have lost 4 stone, and 5 and a bit pounds to no longer be morbid. I'm excited for the next few weeks after having a bit of a week aware that my weight loss is still so much higher than many people's starting weight! A few people this week I haven't seen for a while have commented so it must be getting noticeable. I have SUCH a long way to go but I have been thinking about the paper towel analogy and thinking that the next 5-6 months will make so much more of an impact than these first 5 months!

Earthgirl3971 · 02/06/2025 10:30

Hey everyone, just checking in. Though I'm on 7.5mg now I'm not sure it's having as much of an effect as the 5mg did. I'm still hovering around the 2stone weight loss mark (just under 2stones) and gained a 1lb last week while on a camping holiday and drinking cider, oh well lol.

I think I've lost some mojo and I'm not using the GLP to it's full effect and I'm answerable to that as I know all the things I should be doing to get slimmer faster!

I have lost inches though, my bloody clothes are falling off now on the bottom and I'm going to need to buy a smaller size soon so they are not so baggy. I bought a slim jean a few weeks ago and could only do them up comfortably at the time I think they'll need to be my new jeans and I'll need to buy some 14s again now.

Or take a trip to my loft to get down the bags I loaded in there in 21/22 in the hope they'd fit me again. Not sure Ill like any of it anymore as my taste is more boho as I've given less fucks as I've got older and now wear any pattern I want to.

Are people getting rid of the larger clothes as they grow out of them in general or hanging on? I'm not sure what to do really to try and sell them or give them away as I'll have so many it'll be overwhelming using vinted.

I'm so amazed by all the progress everyone is making and need to give me a kick up the jacket to get with it again. Though the beer garden after school and work calls me on sunny days and it's my downfall as after that comes unhealthy foods. 🫣

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGardeni know exactly what you mean. I had a conversation with a friend at the weekend who was saying how fat and disgusting she felt as she’d weighed herself and had tipped over 14st - all I could think was that’s over 4st lighter than I am currently and I’d kill to see a 14 on the scales! I’m just happy that my BMI is under 40 for the first time in years!
