Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

I hope they get a new pen to you soon. We know their communication can be.... Slow.

Maybe try contacting the pharmacy too?

Noooo! Have you tried a different needle? I've heard it can be that...

Fantastic weight loss and very definitely not "morbid" now!

I hadn't thought of that - just tried with a new needle, worked perfectly!

Thank you!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/04/2025 08:51

Yay!!! I've been down too many rabbit holes reading things as a procrastination side quest - finally something I read has been useful 😁. So glad you don't have to wait for a new pen!

Very useful indeed!

Mieliwood · 04/04/2025 10:00

Well after my weight sky rocketed I have lost 3.5kg this week. Technically overall this month i have put on weight but I still feel smaller, my belly jiggles more and I look less bloated (and i brought jeans in Primark that fit comfortably!!!)

And what was stressful being made redundant turned into a good thing as once I've worked my notice period I will be walking straight into another job with much better pay!

Overall despite the lack of loss this month I am happy, I've done my refill questionnaire. I am slightly dubious of staying on the 5mg as I'm not feeling anything from it any more.

JBJ · 04/04/2025 10:06

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/04/2025 06:51

Check in this morning and 2 stone lost now! First jab of 3rd 5mg pen. I am still morbidly obese but I think it's about 2 stone til I can drop the "morbid" which I'm hoping will be for the summer...

A long long way to go for me but this is further than I've got before. My pattern was losing a stone or stone and a half then regaining and then some over the next year... Rinse and repeat

Im a bit nervous about my blood test as I know it isn't good. I shouldn't be really as it won't be unsuspectsd but also concerned I messed it up!

Hope people are okay. It's a strange journey isn't it.

@Dobbysdad I don't remember but you'd hope within the week wouldn't you. Maybe drop them a call or email?

Congratulations on the 2st milestone! Hoping I’ll be there by my weigh in on Monday.

SnowieBear · 04/04/2025 10:09

Congrats on milestones reached!

I have had an upset tummy all week and lost 400g only, it suits me fine, I think I will stay at 5mg for the remainder of my journey and am starting to think about my maintenance journey.

I am averaging 1.13kg loss a week and my BMI has gone down to 23.9.

In total, I have lost 14.9% of my starting weight and I feel like myself again, I have under 10kg to go - currently 67.4kg, 11.6kg gone.

And the sun is shining. Bring it on💪!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 04/04/2025 10:24

Well done @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden!
Also so pleased for you @Mieliwood, congrats on new job too!

I am a Sunday night jabber but still having strong suppression today, it sometimes wears off a bit Saturday.

i have my period and 😫 so crampy and heavy since beginning MJ in January. I know this is common but don’t understand why. Was woken by cramps in the night, have had that since age 13!!!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 04/04/2025 10:25

@Bananaramram those are impressive stats!!! Well done 👏

Thank you.

The periods are horrendous. Mine have always been bad but it's on a completely different level now!! Heavy enough that I'm using tampons and pads and still don't feel confident it's enough. And the cramps leave me curled up in a ball. I have noticed my usual period migraine doesn't show it's head though so small mercies.

OneAzureMaker · 04/04/2025 08:10

So today is log in day with pen 4. Pen 4 doesn't work!!!

So, they have 'raised a case' to see what will happen, I can turn the dial, but it makes no clicking noise and the plunger cannot be depressed.

But another 1.2kg off this week taking it to a loss of 18.5kg in 12 weeks. BMI now 37.8, so moving in the right direction.

I had this last week, half way through my jab! I took it out, changed the needle and it then worked again (my thigh looked like a pin cushion but a small price to pay!).

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/04/2025 12:44

Fantastic on the new job @Mieliwood!!! I'm still working out what my futire looks like. That's amazing to be able to walk straight into it - you've done well 🥳.

@SnowieBear Wahooooo well done for being well and truly in the healthy bmi. That's fantastic! Do you think you'll take MJ for the rest of the year as maintenance or wean off it?

OP posts:
FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/04/2025 12:45

Grr for periods 😔. Annecdotally it seems MJ interferes with them but again I'm not sure why. And if things are all supposed ito be more balanced hormonally you'd have hoped it would have made periods easier!!

My current thinking is I will need another two to three months to get to my target weight, at which point I hope to be able to have a sensible conversation with Shemed. Two months on maintenance from that point to work out my new balance, then wean off for the rest of the year?

Lucky to be able to chat this through with DH and a friend who is much ahead of us in his journey and getting his head in that space. He always says that half of the battle is the head game, working on your relationship with food, what normal is and feels like, etc. I think he's on the money: we need to be able to live with this newly granted freedom in a sustainable way.

Congrats on your first two stone off, you've got this. I know the bloods are scary, it's a very black and white, no bullshit message about the damage we have incurred one way or another. The silver lining is that from now on results will get better and better: this is as bad as it gets and you are working on the right course of action to make sure you return to a healthy, full life.

Kaggi9 · 04/04/2025 23:57

Jab 9 today and another 4lbs off, making 3 stone 6 in total. I’ve also discovered the delights of Stocked Blocks this week. Calorie counted, quick and delicious!

Happy weekend everyone!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 05/04/2025 03:52

@SnowieBear That sounds a plan! And yes very useful to have a friend further ahead in the game irl. And yes that's such a good way to frame my thinking. Thankyou x

Wow that's fantastic @Kaggi9 !!. I've seen the adverts for those stocked blocks they look good and easy to store too!

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I was a little dubious, but I’m pleasantly surprised! We had Sausage Arrabbiata last night and it was delicious!

Humptyandhambel · 05/04/2025 13:05

Hey 👋 really appreciate you sharing your progress ladies…helps to deal with the doubts when sts for a week or two. I’ve just taken jab 3 of my second 5mg pen. I’ve asked to go up to 7.5 on my questionnaire but not holding my breath.
My weight fluctuated up then sts the last 2 weeks, though lost 2lbs this week. No horrid side effects, though I’m on HRT so don’t have periods & weirdly had 2 since starting MJ.
starting weight 14 stone 12
current weight 13 stone 1 - (not so patiently waiting for the 2 stone mark)

bluesmartie83 · 06/04/2025 12:01

My NSV for this week is being able
to fit (snuggly) into a size 14 (non stretchy) jeans. I was wearing (just about) a size 18 in Dec. My weight has been slow over the last few weeks but I tried these jeans on last week and I couldn’t do them up. Now they do and I can wear them all in a week with only half a pound weightloss. I am
annoyed I didn’t measure when I started but I am saying goodbye to all my size 18 clothes today because I am not going back! Hang in there ppl it’s not all about the scales and I can honestly say as a daily weigher I am now very much seeing the truth in this. Hoping you are all enjoying the sunshine ☀️

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/04/2025 15:44

@Humptyandhambel wow that's a fab loss in 8 weeks!

@bluesmartie83 wahooo that's amazing in such a short time!!

I still can't see visually in photos but I think that might be a while but I have lost about 10cm each round my waist/hips/stomach/chest!!! I am so very big that it's not obvious (and stretchy large clothes) but it's nice to see it's working.

Today I've walked 11000 steps. I am amazed. We did a trail around our local area and stopped for coffee etc and I'm just in awe. I was properly sedentary for a long time and would struggle after about 10mins of walking. This has to be mj/elvanse working other magic other than weight loss.

JBJ · 06/04/2025 18:31

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I’ve lost about the same in inches and can’t really see it either, but I went to a gig last night and wore my favourite (only!) pair of Levi’s and realised I could pull them up and down without opening the zip and button, as I normally wear stretchy trousers and forgot to undo them when I went to the loo! Going to have to invest in a belt as I’m not ready to replace the jeans yet!

Humptyandhambel · 06/04/2025 18:32

I did my questionnaire yesterday ready for my 4th pen, on the comments I did ask to move up to 7.5. I just had confirmation of the prescription and I’ve been given the 7.5mg. - just for anyone questioning if we could go up xxxx

Reginaphalangeeeee · 06/04/2025 23:46

4th dose of 5mg and 12 weeks in.
very happy to have lost 1.5 kg this week! Iam finishing my period so know some of that was water hormonal weight I was holding.
gosh my periods are terrible on MJ but so happy to now be under the 40BMI !!!
Also under 120Kg now at 119 😍
I have wished for so long to have a cure to my obesity, dreamed it was possible to be ‘normal’ & honestly feel it it here along with some of my confidence returning,
feeling positive

I asked for 7.5 and was prescribed 5mg

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 07/04/2025 08:36

Yes that's puzzling isn't it! If anything based on their criteria you'd have expected Mieliwood to go up as not really losing and Humpty to stay on 5 as is losing!

Well done @JBJ with the jeans 🎉.
And huge Wahooooo for @Reginaphalangeeeee you're no longer "morbid" 🎉🎉🎉. I think this week I've been reflecting that this now seems possible and after the last 5-10years of anxiety over worsening health and weight and mobility life is finally changing. Even if to the outside world I still look huge I know I'm on the right track.
