‘Eating the same, but less’ and other mistakes

Reading the Mounjaro support U.K Facebook group and some of the threads on here and it’s apparent there’s many people seemingly unaware that you must make better food choices and try to unlearn bad habits for it to work effectively, to stand any chance of maintaining after weaning off.

Not everyone is the same I know but the majority of WLI users were obese due to what they eat and how their bodies react to it.

WLIs should be thought of as a medically induced lifestyle overhaul. Belief that you can still eat the same as before, just less of it is great, as long as it’s healthy wholesome food.

Still regularly eating ultra processed, calorific, fatty, carb heavy food groups but a reduced portion will do you no favours long term. The same with drinking, snacking and not exercising. It will be a cruel shock if you come off WLIs and realise you’re on your way back to square 1.

You MUST use the appetite suppression you’re paying for to retrain and reset your diet away from poor food choices and bad habits. Otherwise, once you reach your goal and slowly wean off the drug those bad habits WILL come back because the beneficial effects will wear off. Think Cinderella at midnight.

If you want stand any chance to maintain ‘long term’ low cholesterol, low blood sugars, the slimmer figure, you have to learn to love vegetables, lean protein, healthy food groups and detach entirely from all the addictive bad stuff, Fizzy drinks, Biscuits, Crisps, Chocolate, Cheese toppings, Pizzas, Takeaways, Wine, Cakes, Energy drinks. These are all the devil, whether in huge servings or small portions. Many people can not have these ‘in moderation’.

WLIs offer you, the user a unique chance to hold back the urges and allow your body to reset. Cutting ties to poor choices whilst you’re not having compulsive thoughts about them and constant hunger is the key to long term success.

Eh if you look at the what you ate today thread, you will see the vast majority eat healthy, thanks for your concern though and lessen. Very altruistic of you.

Confused
DarkForces · 15/02/2025 12:08

Do you take them? They've completely changed my food preferences and I'm eating really well, but that's also because I can't stomach fatty rich foods on them. I fully accept I'm going to have to be on them long term to maintain but they've changed my life.

Onceachunkymonkey · 15/02/2025 12:12

Op, am I right in saying you don’t take them, your husband does, but you’re fat and want to but for some reason want to research further whilst giving people advise?

im confused by your thought process here and on other threads. Are you practicing what you preach?

Burnserns · 15/02/2025 12:13

There is a particular type of poster who relishes coming on the weight loss threads to pontificate to all us lesser mortals.

Caffeineneedednow · 15/02/2025 12:14

Hahaha

Ehh even before WLI meal choices were and still are very healthy. The problem for me and many others is I am not satisfied with my healthy meal and spend all my time outside of meals obsessing over junk food, try to be good untill I crack and binge. I am also quite fit

Obesity is a disease and for some they will be on WLI for life.

HansHolbein · 15/02/2025 12:19

@Burnserns I think there’s a few of them.

"it’s apparent there’s many people seemingly unaware that you must make better food choices and try to unlearn bad habits for it to work effectively, to stand any chance of maintaining after weaning off."

It's not apparent to me. I don't recognise this description at all. The large majority of people are discussing how their food preferences have changed, or how they are finding it easier to avoid snacking and overeating on "treat" food on top of normal meals.

It's a bit odd to start a thread to tell people what they MUST do, when you are not in their position and not an expert or similar.

I didn’t say everyone, I said many. If you look at a lot of the ‘it’s not working’ or ‘I’m gaining again’ threads you will notice a fair few who claim to just eat less of the same or just eat what you want etc. I don’t doubt for a second there’s a huge number of healthier eaters.

I’m 10st but my DP uses them with great results. I think WLIs are going to change the world.

Odd that you think that was a weird thread when it has lots of positive advice. I’m pleased you took the time to read it- are you putting some of the advice to use?

OP posts:
IrisPallida · 15/02/2025 12:28

I for one am NOT INTERESTED in advice about taking WLIs from someone who is NOT TAKING WLIs.

I am guessing your DH has told you the same.

HansHolbein · 15/02/2025 12:29

@Slibberydibbery I would never take advice from someone like you. HTH.

Onceachunkymonkey · 15/02/2025 12:33

Op what’s driving you here. I looked at your history and you seem driven to give people advise when no one asked you and you do it in a preachy manner as some form of wli and diet expert., are wli the only area you feel compelled to do this?

blimey, you need to calm down.

AmythestBangle · 15/02/2025 12:35

Patronising, much?

That was to @Slibberydibbery by the way

I tend to agree with the OP not so much on here but other social media people are not healthy eating and instead choosing things like protein bars and lots of processed food and snacks. Same goes for people who take a break to enjoy themselves on holiday / at Christmas - this is the cycle that needs to be broken that associated lots of calories with enjoyment. Any yes I’ve been on mounjaro , lost three stone and have lost another stone since stopping but bad habits are easy to adopt again

DarkForces · 15/02/2025 12:40

Ah I see. Another person telling me what to do. I'm fat, not stupid and perfectly capable of eating healthily now I have some support to calm my screaming brain that told me I was constantly at risk of starvation if I didn't eat more. Now that's shut up I'm eating well and losing weight but accept I need intervention to keep it quiet. I'm very happy losing gradually on the smallest dose that works for me as it's a long haul journey.

custardpyjamas · 15/02/2025 12:41

Don't discourage people from trying. Eating less whatever you eat will make you lose weight. Is it better to eat healthier foods rather than endless take aways, chips and sweets obviously, but if you eat half as much (even if it's still junk) you will lose weight. Having to reduce what you eat and change what you eat at the same time may just stop people from trying.

What’s driving me is seeing how incredible the results of proper use of WLIs can be for those who have struggled all their lives with food through no fault of their own.

The misuse of WLIs and misinformation around them is a potential pitfall for lots of people who may not fully understand how and why they work. I don’t want people to fail on them or to be making mistakes that could jeopardise their success.

I’m very health conscious and my advice and opinion genuinely comes from good intentions.

I suspect they mean someone who has no personal experience of the drugs and feels driven to tell people how to eat and behave on them. You actually come across as obsessed.

THANK YOU 😅

The suggestion of breaking that cycle and devotion to bad food gets some serious backlash.
