Anyone else a little frustrated they haven't gone down a size yet? I'm nearly 18lbs down but not dropped a size

MananaMananaPenelope · 12/02/2025 16:50

I found something that was OK for lunch today in Sainsburys.

This. It was ok, better than alot of the other lunch choices in the supermarket, quite filling and felt more satisfying than soup. Not an overly large portion either.

That's all I've eaten so far today so maybe I do have appetite supression!

kmreeve · 12/02/2025 17:14

I can’t eat tonight, I cooked salmon sweet potato and broccoli but I took one bite of broccoli and nearly threw up.

I did have what I consider a “big lunch” I craved carbs ( I don’t eat a lot of carbs) so made some pasta with tuna and a teaspoon of mayo - and I ate all of it. It was 421 calories all in for lunch and after this mornings vomiting episode ( see above) I just can’t face any other food today.

I did my bonus dose which was about a 3mg dose.. this has me worried for next weeks 5mg

I found out a couple of things that if people don’t know, might be useful.

The first is that the pens are designed to last 30 days out of the fridge. If they’re in the fridge, they should last a year. It wasn’t clear if this was true for partially used pens, so I wouldn’t personally risk that, but useful for unused pens.

Second is that the primary effect of MJ isn’t appetite suppression (which is what I thought) - this is a side effect. It’s putting back into our bodies what we’re lacking that makes it so hard to lose weight. So whatever dose is working in making you lose weight, that’s the right dose.

I definitely need to go up - I’m barely losing on 2.5. But I have high hopes that I just need more GLP-1 and at some point I’ll find the right level.

Hope this helps - and please ignore if everyone but me knew all this already!

I’m not sure I have either. I’ve been measuring myself and don’t seem to have lost inches which can’t be right as I’m a stone and a half down, I think I must be measuring in different places each time! I can’t even really tell if my clothes are looser. Think I need to try something on that hasn’t fitted for a while! Hopefully for you it will come very soon!

I’m on holiday this week (the glamour of centre parcs) and wearing a swimsuit that didn’t fit me last year!

Thrilled about that, but it has also really shown me that now I’m shedding the weight I need to keep on top of my toning. I’ve been running lots, but think I want to try and do some weight training to look after my muscle loss and tone a bit - but I’ve no idea where to start. I remember reading a few comments about people who do weights, could anyone give me some pointers for a complete novice?

Hey, I've been doing weightraining on and off for a while. Paid for 4 sessions with a PT in puregym to show me how to use Barbell and weights correctly. First thing i would say is you're stronger than you think! The Barbell weighs 15 or 20kg, so practice just lifting that at first, to get the correct form. Bench press (laid down), overhead press (standing) and deadlift are my usual exercises. And record each time what you lifting, how many reps, how many sets. Eg
Bench press- 20kg x 8 reps x 3 sets.
3 min rest in between sets to recover.
Squeeze every muscle in your body tight before you lift, especially core and bumcheeks lol, then you'll be stronger!
The next time you workout, try to beat your last weight! Gets competitive lol! 😆
If you don't fancy Barbell or want to use dumbells at home, it's the same principle.
Then- when you can comfortably get to 12 reps+ it's time to increase the weight by 1 or 2kg each side of the Barbell, eg 20kg to 22kg or 24kg.
Good luck!

CurlsandCurves · 12/02/2025 20:20

@Jjsmum2007 I love weight training! I’m very fortunate to get mates rates from a PT friend. It’s amazing how much you can actually lift if you keep at it and push yourself, isn’t it? I want arms like Michelle Obama! Or back in the day I used to say Madonna arms, lol.

@0ncemorewithfee1ing that’s so interesting about GLP1 adding what your body lacks, makes so much sense. Wasn’t there a poster on here who lost pretty much all their weight on 2.5? Presumably because that was enough for their body to lose what they needed.

@myladyjane I feel you on the period front. Mine has just appeared after a 2 month absence, this happened back in august as well. So hello menopause I guess for me!

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 12/02/2025 20:26

I'm a little bit undecided what to do.
Jab day tomorrow, today is the last day of the first week on 5mg.
At the start of the week I thought it was just too much and said I was going to go back down to 3.75 next.
But the back end of the week has been OK.
But then I'm thinking of the build up in my system, and how the suppression may go off the charts with another 5. I don't want that.
I'm really over thinking what dose I should do tomorrow 🤔
I'll probably play safe and go back down.
Just wanted to write my thoughts out somewhere I guess!

DGonMJ · 12/02/2025 20:39

Agree a good way to start if you want to focus on strength building is to book a PT session at your local gym. Some of them offer a complimentary induction to the weights section so you can figure out a routine that works for you.

There a plenty of kettlebell or dumbbell or even just bodyweight classes on YouTube you can try if you want to start off at home.

Bodypump and Legs, Bums & Tums classes are another cheaper way to get some resistance training but I know in places like Pure Gym these classes (not all) often include quite a bit of cardio because people like to sweat in classes. And too much cardio won’t help you replace lost muscle if that’s your goal.

MissPobjoysPonies · 12/02/2025 23:25

So I’ve got 1 dose of 2.5mg left (2nd pen) but my suppression is definitely lowering and my weightloss has stagnated.

i was wondering if i could “attempt” to get an additional half dose (golden dose??) out of the last pen to make it 3.75mg before going up to 5mg. Has anyone done this?

0ncemorewithfee1ing · 13/02/2025 00:27

DGonMJ · 12/02/2025 19:07

The thing about MJ longevity I read in a booklet I got with the first pen. The thing about suppression being a side effect, rather than the whole point of the drug I got from watching some people on YouTube - one of whom was a GP with a specialist interest in obesity.

Seaitoverthere · 13/02/2025 04:57

Interesting @0ncemorewithfee1ing . After I put on last week my cousin said I needed to go up a dose. I disagreed and felt it was a blip (it has since come off as I thought it would) and that current dose was working as can stick to a calorie deficit so had a talk with diabetes nurse friend.

Asked if I was correct in thinking that although the drug has effects on us such as regulating insulin production etc that there wasn’t any other biological function that resulted in the actual weight loss other than eating a calorie deficit there isn’t some other biochemical process that results in weight reduction other than the calorie deficit hence the manufacturer saying it has to be used in conjunction with dietary change and exercise and she said that is correct.

I said that some people on social media are suggesting there is something more and she said she has been on a fair few courses with Eli Lilly about it and my assumption was correct. But if a GP is saying it that’s interesting. I get that GLP-1 is replacing something that some of us lack but thought it mean better insulin regulation to enable us to stick to a calorie deficit.

I lose by the 3500 calorie deficit is a pound loss but some of the losses people have are so much each week I have been wondering if something else is going on but googling has so far failed to explain what that is. Some people are saying that they are finding they can now lose on a deficit on Mounjaro and couldn’t lose on the same deficit without it. I have come to the conclusion that I don’t fully understand it all despite best efforts to.

Therealmetherealme · 13/02/2025 06:15

A quick one for those price matching with MedExpress, make sure they add the additional £5 that is on their policy. I had the price match but then had to request the £5. Every little helps.

I felt strong suppression the first two days of 5 but jabbed yesterday morning and no side effects so far...

MananaMananaPenelope · 13/02/2025 06:52

I'm feeling stuffed from last night this morning - I ate a small portion of pasta with shellfish. I need to avoid pasta for a while, I am not a fan but DCs are and they've cooked for the last two nights. Teenagers with hollow legs want very different food to eat to me. Both nights just one of them at home and I've not wanted to refuse their cooking or leave them to eat alone.

No idea on weightloss, I'm going to try to weigh weekly if I can hold out. I bet I've gained bloat through eating pasta.

IBloodyLoveMyBlanket · 13/02/2025 06:53

I put on 1.5lb a couple of days ago and it hasn’t shifted yet. Annoying.

Don't worry about it, there are so many reasons for it that aren't about putting on weight. I've noticed my weight swings around 1lb just between weighing at 05:30 and 08:00. As long as you're doing the right things, it will move.

IBloodyLoveMyBlanket · 13/02/2025 07:19

Hope so!

myladyjane · 13/02/2025 07:34

Could someone remind me how syringe measurements equate to doses pls. Going for my bonus does of my 2.5 tonight and am hoping for a bit more than 2.5 to bridge the gap up to 3.75 next week

Also 3.75 is 45 clicks isn't it? Of a 5mg pen.

Or point me to a handy thread.

meatyryvita · 13/02/2025 07:35

3lbs down today - very happy!

sw - 15.10 (at blood test)
cw - 14.11

1lb shy of a stone in 3 weeks! I’m on w3 d1 and could not be happier 🤗

Syringe dose of 3.75mg from a 5mg pen is 0.45ml.

(0.6/5)*3.75
