GrumpyMule, exactly. And I did relax over my Xmas holiday (to thailand) and pretty much ate what I wanted. Put on 4 kilos over 2 weeks! Now I can still eat what I want and not feel deprived, I just don't want to eat or drink that much.

@MananaMananaPenelope I’ve taken magnesium for about 10 years as have similar digestive profile to you. I take this one as it has all the different types in it. 2 per night but maybe start on one.

https://bioptimizers.co.uk/product/magnesium-breakthrough

Thanks for the link @GrumpyMuleFan , I think that’s what I should buy. I bought magnesium citrate alone 😬. Just about to take the first one.

I’m going to unfold my treadmill this morning and leave it out/make myself use it every other day.

GrumpyMuleFan · 22/02/2025 09:07

@MananaMananaPenelope thst is such a good idea. I am really struggling to get back to exercise. I need to make it my next project.

Therealmetherealme · 22/02/2025 09:08

Just gone for it and increased to the 5mg dose, after a few 3.75 doses. Wish me luck!

Constipation is definitely an issue for me, to avoid it I really need to drink lots of water, eat regularly, smaller meals and take occasional tablets. I've bought the psyllium husk tablets and also use a tasteless fibre powder that I can add to my tea when everything slows down a little too much.

Jins · 22/02/2025 09:11

I’m lucky as all my household know I’m on MJ and I’ve no need to hide my pen. I’ve told two friends but that’s as far as I intend to go with sharing the news. DH is incredibly supportive, DS1 doesn’t care and DS2 is a bit worried about potential side effects. I’ve only told the friends as we were out and I was struggling to finish my lunch but more importantly I stopped after one gin and I wasn’t even driving 😆. Both were curious about it as both struggle with their weight but the curiosity was really about how I’d managed to get it with a sub 30 BMI, followed by questions about conditions that would allow it to be prescribed. They’ve probably looked into it now but I haven’t asked.

Regarding constipation - I am the queen of constipation and have been treated for functional constipation for over a decade. I’ve been on Prucalopride since it was first licensed and I’ll be on it for life. If increased fibre isn’t helping or making things worse then try a low residue diet for a few days along with a stool softener or an osmotic laxative like movicol.

I was dreading increased constipation but my experience of MJ in this respect has been very positive, almost miraculous. I don’t want to jinx myself by putting it in writing but if things continue this way I’ll be happy to stay on it forever 😆

DGonMJ · 22/02/2025 09:12

I keep my pen in a drawer in my bedroom as soon as I’ve used it. My mum lives with us and has a habit of regularly cleaning out the fridge and looking in every jar/container to see if she can chuck it out. I haven’t told her yet. I might do, if only to ease my anxiety about it being discovered.
Was actually looking up medication storage for bedrooms so that I could avoid the family fridge altogether!

W7 D7 3.33mg
SW 79.6kg
CW 70.8kg
GW 60-65kg

Compared to this time last week I’ve lost 0.7kg or 1.5lb. Not bad given I’ve eaten out three times this week and also increased calories to 1350. Have had more energy so I’m hopeful this is sustainable.

Doing my second 3.33mg jab tomorrow. Final one next week before I move onto the 5mg pen and increase to 4mg.

MananaMananaPenelope · 22/02/2025 09:21

@GrumpyMuleFan its the first thing that disappears from my life tbh and I need to change that.

I’m writing a paper atm in my own time, related to my PhD subject. Submission due in April. So it’s work, life and boring life admin, kids, subject I love, audiobook or novel to relax, feeling a bit under par ⬇️ ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ exercise.

Exercise is so far down my list of priorities it might as well be on 🪐 , I need to change that. Seeing the projection with exercise on ‘losertown’ made me think fgs MMP you are not a stupid woman - just get on with it.

MananaMananaPenelope · 22/02/2025 09:24

I suppose the kids are higher up my list irl 🤣, at almost 19 and 20 they’re adults, but students at home.

Constantdieter · 22/02/2025 09:27

Selfish post as off out for the day so a quick one.
Weigh in, end of week 4 and I've lost exactly 1 stone whoop whoop!
I know i said I wouldn't count the 3lbs to start with as that was water weight, but you know what? I'm going to!
Also managed to get 0.425 out of my 2.5mg (i fucked it up), and have taken 2.5mg out of my new 5mg pen, so that's 4.37mg

myladyjane · 22/02/2025 09:38

@GrumpyMuleFan those revelations are useful aren't they.

I had similar around how I eat to manage stress. Lots of fast digested simple carbs for a quick dopamine hit. My idea of treat food now seems to have morphed into fruit salad (I love fruit so much. Except pears and blackcurrants).

I am very much trying to address more movement. I find it hard as I'm prone to minor injury and one of my main motivations for weight loss is to ease the pressure on my joints. I have dhs old smart watch which I find motivating but I struggle with getting movement into a very busy sedentary working day. I love outdoor swimming so counting down til my lake opens again in May and I am keen to find a yoga class I can commit to. Thinking hard about a walking pad too.

myladyjane · 22/02/2025 09:47

@MananaMananaPenelope bloody kids always get in the way.

Mine are mid teens in the gcse years. I was thinking how much we (very rightly) prioritise their health and wellbeing - they both have multiple sports clubs we pay for, drive them around to and prioritise. Dd2 suffers quite a bit with anxiety and physical exercise is amazingly beneficial for her mental wellbeing as is rest and quiet time. So we really help her with all of that. Dh goes to the gym 5 times a week as it keeps him healthy and manages his stress. I eat cake.

Dd1 gets a great ass and meets cute boys (her words my funny uncomplicated child!)

Constantdieter · 22/02/2025 09:47

*4.27mg

DGonMJ · 22/02/2025 09:50

@MananaMananaPenelope getting the treadmill out is a really great start. If you have a friend with a peloton they might be able to add you to their account and you can follow the different runs on the app. I use it when I’m travelling for work and there’s a hotel gym with a treadmill. I prefer someone telling me what to do for exercise, takes the burden of responsibility away!

@GrumpyMuleFan love that you’ve had this insight. Understanding that you need ‘something’ - a bit of self-care, or time to decompress, a moment of kindness for yourself. And it doesn’t have to be food. Could be a book or a long bath or a chat with a friend. I do think food has been a comfort for me. And I still like the ritual of going to a cafe and ordering a tea as a little luxury and a moment of respite. But for now, I’m laying off the cake.

myladyjane · 22/02/2025 09:52

And finally from me today, whilst I stayed the same, my nsv is that my waist is back! I am an hourglass with a short body and an apron tummy. at my biggest I loose the sharp curve of my waist but it's the first thing to come back and it's here! Makes such a difference to my shape (we'll ignore the side view).

YourMerryLemonWasp · 22/02/2025 09:55

Morning all, so interesting reading everyone’s journeys. So I’m very lucky in that I have lost the weight pretty quickly. SW 81kg - now at 68kg and TW 65. Lost a lot in first six weeks now about 1pound a week which is fine. I’d be pretty happy to stay as I am now and just maintain. But I haven’t drunk alcohol (except for one night) since 31st December and have upped the exercise doing 15.000 steps a day and five HIIT classes a week 😂 doubt this will be something I can maintain forever but have a holiday in the Maldives coming up so good incentive. I’m going to stay on 5mg jab as it’s working and I just want to keep my focus up - lots of things planned in next few months and summer I always struggle as I love large glasses of rose in the sun. Is anyone else near the goal weight and wondering how to maintain?

That's exactly the same here, prioritised the kids with their sports to help to set them up to live sport for the rest of their lives to keep them healthy. Husband is your stereotype MAMIL.
Oldest is now at Uni, youngest is first year GCSE, so no see serious exams this year. A few weeks ago I told my husband that this was my year to be a priority. To be fair he's mucked in and is supporting me so far.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 22/02/2025 10:01

Morning all, great to read all of your experiences. It’s my birthday tomorrow so I had a night out last night, went for dinner and ordered 2 small plates, crispy king prawns and a mini Caesar salad which I really enjoyed. Ate all the prawns and managed about 3/4 of the salad. Also had 4.5 cocktails (couldn’t finish the 5th)! I felt much more drunk than I usually would on that many! Had a bit of a sore head this morning but after lots of water and some paracetamol I feel fine now. I’m so pleased that I can still enjoy a night out and have things I like just in smaller quantities. I got plenty of exercise too as I spent lots of time on the dance floor! 💃

I’ve jumped on the scales this morning just to see the damage and the number hasn’t changed so far! I’m hoping with a good week ahead of me I can still lose something by my weigh in day on Thursday 🤞.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

MananaMananaPenelope · 22/02/2025 10:10

You’re all right about our kids!

@DGonMJ I’ve got Apple fitness, Fitbit premium til March and an Ifit subscription 😬. Absolutely no excuses at all. I used to be so sporty/fit before I was poorly, now I literally cba with anything. I’ve never cancelled Ifit because DC1 uses a bike it links to/controls. I think I’ll try one of the overseas hiking series.

It could be a coincidence….. but mag citrate seems to have had an effect already.

GrumpyMuleFan · 22/02/2025 10:11

@Lovetoridemybicycle @myladyjane @MananaMananaPenelope

i could have written all of your posts. My DC are sports mad and it’s a commitment. Plus we have exams and one of my DC needs lots of academic support. I am waaay better at looking after them, than myself. I am not sure what the acronym means, but my DH always gets his stuff in. He pulls his weight, but never at the expense of his sport/training/coffee stops. I kind of resent that, but know what I need to do. Right, phone down - I’m taking the dogs for a walk! First time all week.

unicornsaremagical · 22/02/2025 10:49

@GrumpyMuleFan @MananaMananaPenelope i’ll definitely give it a try thank you

Jins · 22/02/2025 10:54

I’m having a mare at the moment with my assessment for Oushk. I got most of the way through it (takes ages - I rattle with medication) then pressed the back button and lost it all. I’ve just finished it again and it’s hanging on the upload page. Hopefully it’ll go through ok.

I’ve just checked my weight and I’ve dropped 0.6lbs overnight! 😳. I normally have a small gain the day after a jab. I think 5mg is suiting me

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 22/02/2025 11:16

@GrumpyMuleFan
Middle Aged Man In Lycra is the acronym 😆

If you have any problems with it, give them a call or email. They are really responsive and helpful 🙂

TicTac80 · 22/02/2025 11:49

@MananaMananaPenelope , please could I ask, what is the mag citrate that you use? I did a quick google on amazon and there are all different doses. The link for magnesium that @GrumpyMuleFan posted looks great, but I want to see if amazon can get something to me quickly.

Just taken a bisacodyl this morning, just to keep on top of things. I'm not going out so it should be fine.

Yesterday, I ate pretty cleanly: some salmon sashimi and nigiri at lunch, with salad. Then mixed leaves and a portion of Quorn Chilli Bites and kimchi for supper. Small portion of popcorn whilst I watched a movie with the DC and a handful of cherries.

@Jins, I had a tiny weight gain compared with yesterday (I do my jab on Fridays). 0.05kg!! 😂I'll keep my fingers crossed for your Oushk assessment.

I've not told anyone about the MJ yet. I don't want the comments, as I've heard enough people slagging it off as an easy fix. I have pointed out to them that things are never just black and white. I've had to take people to task in the past about the way they have spoken about people who are obese. There's never just one thing, it is? I have pointed out that my stats (particularly fat %) showed me as clinically obese, and would they slag me off. So, I'm keeping it quiet for the time being. When I finally got the balls to consider MJ (thanks to reading these threads) I was completely truthful when doing the weighing/measuring etc when I first ordered it and I know that if I didn't do something else to address my weight, then my weight would just increase (and so would my risk of getting other illnesses etc - diabetes and heart problems run in my family). An increase of nearly 20kg in 6yrs is more than enough. It's funny....just one person had commented on my weight gain and asked me if I was ok. NB I didn't actually mind the comment as it was from a good friend, who was just making sure I was ok. I may or may not tell her about the MJ.

A few threads back, I saw someone had written something about people needing fewer calories as they get older and I wondered if that was the case with me. Before peri, I was averaging around 1500cal daily (more often this was less). No problems and weight was stable. Peri hit, my diet didn't change, my job didn't change (active job - I'm a nurse) ...weight gain and increased fat% ensued. I started MJ, dropped cals right down (i.e. ate when I was hungry, stopped when I was full) and weight etc is now coming off. I read up about BAME people needing lower BMI ranges, and read people's experiences on these threads. It all makes sense...and it makes me feel less shit about my weight gain...despite working in healthcare for decades!!

I need to get off my bum and get on the treadmill/bike, then a nice shower, but going to have some water etc first.

Jins · 22/02/2025 11:55

Thanks @discoballv and @TicTac80. The data finally went through and I’m in the system. I’ve ordered another 5mg pen for early March but if I decide to go up to 7.5mg I’ll give them a call.

Renpho scales just arrived and they are giving me a body fat % of 34 which is great but it’s much lower than my old scales so I don’t trust it. Especially after hearing that it only measures your bottom half accurately. On the plus side my metabolic age is only 4 years older than my actual age which feels achievable. I’ve deleted all the readings as it’s midday and I’m fully clothed so I’ll have a better picture tomorrow
