Has anyone started on a micro dose of mounjaro? How many clicks?

I can’t seem to find out how many clicks to microdose my pen to avoid side effects. 😓

Are you getting side effects?

SilenceInside · 22/01/2025 12:53

There is no number of clicks that will guarantee that you avoid side effects. If you take a very much smaller "micro" dose than 2.5mg then as well as attempting to avoid side effects you are also likely to avoid it doing anything for you at all.

There's no developed protocol for microdosing, there's plenty of sites, usually in the US, that discuss it but it's not proven science nor is there any evidence for it. People who do this seem to be deciding for themselves what constitutes a "micro" dose and how often to inject it.

WhoWhereWhatWhy · 22/01/2025 13:08

Not a micro dose. But I’ve been on 2.5 for about five months now. It’s impossible to know what side effects to you’ll have until you try.

CornishPorsche · 22/01/2025 13:09

Why? What side effects have you had so far? If you haven't taken it yet, there's no guarantee of side effects anyway.

I have barely any - I'm a bit bunged up, but it improves when I up my fruit and veg so it's a useful reminder to adjust my diet! And I'm cold but that is super common.

mashingwachine · 22/01/2025 13:22

Change your diet, not the dose.

PeachyKeane · 22/01/2025 14:02

I'm micro-dosing, I have just taken 20 clicks each time. It's worked well for me and no side effects. I see no reason to go up either so long as it's having an effect. Have done this since October and feel amazing.

WeAllHaveWings · 22/01/2025 17:26

It makes sense to take the first dose, 2.5mg, which is already a low dose as prescribed and allow your body to get used to it. If you have very unpleasant side effects at 2.5mg then taking less than 2.5mg and building up is an option.

I would much rather try 2.5mg first than "micro dose" find out it doesn't have any effect, and end up binning a lot of remaining liquid or using it well beyond 30 days.

Twinniemu · 22/01/2025 21:57

Hi, I have been on 2.5mg for 2 weeks and also had bad side effects. Seriously thinking of doing lower dose tomorrow when my third dose is due.

Bellyblueboy · 22/01/2025 22:09

Have you started yet? did you get side effects on 2.5mg?

beckaellen · 23/01/2025 05:13

The full dose is 60 clicks, half dose is 30 clicks.

crumbsonmyface · 23/01/2025 05:40

I would personally start on 2.5mg to see how you get on, as loads of people are fine. 1.25mg is 30 clicks, and it worked well for me when I had side effects

You know you're not supposed to keep an open pen for more than 4 weeks?

PeachyKeane · 23/01/2025 06:57

Yes, I'm not sure what your point is? My view is that if it's working at the lower dose then I'm getting my moneys worth. Even if I chuck stuff away.

There's no point in overdosing myself and perhaps getting side effects. And I reckon it'll be easier to wean myself off eventually.

Finallydoingit24 · 23/01/2025 07:40

Started yesterday on a microdose of 30 clicks of the 2.5mg pen. I know they say use in 30 days but if it’s refrigerated I’m sure it’s fine seeing as you can keep it out of the fridge for up to a month in temperatures up to 30 degrees. They don’t want to tell you you can use it longer as people will buy the 15mg pen and split it into tiny doses.

Anyway I have notable appetite suppression. Very mild side effects so far but I don’t want to take the risk of taking more and feeling worse. Unless it’s a medication that your body needs, eg for diabetes, taking too little won’t be harmful other than maybe being ineffective. You don’t hear of people having issues with underdoses.

I don’t want to get to where some people are, barely eating anything and surviving on 800 calories a day. I want to eat a normal amount without too much food noise.

I will continue on a micro dose for now and see what impact it has on weight.

There are no withdrawal symptoms, it isn’t physically addictive.

are you using half of it so the pen lasts longer, half a starting dose is very low, and unlikely to be having any effects past placebo.

PeachyKeane · 23/01/2025 07:44

@Finallydoingit24 exactly what I have been doing and it has worked amazingly. I agree with everything you've said. The only risk I can see is it stops being effective but as I say, I've been doing this since October and it's been life changing for me.

It depends how you react to it. It’s definitely suppressed my appetite. I don’t think placebo really works when you know you’re not taking the full dose - placebo effect in trials are where you don’t know whether you are taking the real medication or not.

That’s awesome and if it works for you then that’s great. To be honest even if it was a placebo effect and it worked to stop my overeating I wouldn’t care because ultimately I want to stop the overeating. By whatever means.

How much have you lost if you don’t mind me asking? I want to lose about 2.5 stone altogether.

crumbsonmyface · 23/01/2025 07:47

I've been on mounjaro since early October, building up from 1.25mg (currently on 2mg) because of bad side effects. It's not a placebo, I've lost 20lb so far. Slow but definitely not a placebo - it works for some people at lower doses 🤷🏽‍♀️

That’s amazing! Well done. I have tried time and again to lose weight naturally over the past few years - I can’t do it. I lose 3 pounds, it goes back on again, rinse and repeat. I eat well for a week and then get cravings for junk food and binge and undo all progress and start again. So even if it came off slowly like yours, it would still be a hell of a lot better than I could do on my own.

PeachyKeane · 23/01/2025 07:53

I only wanted to lose perhaps 16 lbs tbh. I don't want to be skinny. I like my curves and my boobs. So it's helped me with that and I'm maintaining now on a very low dose perhaps every 10 days. It was that impossible to shift post menopausal stone and a bit that I wanted to tackle. My body looks amazing now.

crumbsonmyface · 23/01/2025 07:55

@Finallydoingit24 - it's been life changing! Hope it all goes well for you but it's been so worth it. Think it's just about listening to your body, you'll know when it's time to go up in dose. It was so shocking to not have any food noise, like wow is this what some people experience. It's completely stopped my binge eating ☺️

Some people are "super responders" and can lose all the weight on doses sub 2.5mg.

I thought I was going to be like this when I started, researched loads about microdosing at the start although did take an initial 2.5mg dose to see how it went. I had great suppression and lost weight quickly - pictured myself never needing to move up a dose etc etc. However by the end of week three I could feel it was becoming less effective so over several weeks I moved up to 5mg.

By that point I'd lost over a stone - however the weight loss really slowed and has been slow ever since. I have gradually moved up to 10mg with very few side effects (despite experiencing some at 3.5mg).

I just think it's good to be open minded about what is going to work for you - but that goes in both directions. Most people start MJ thinking it would be great if they could stay on lower doses. But the vast majority move up for the efficacy, over time.

Will definitely keep you up to date. That’s amazing about stopping your binge eating because that’s my downfall. I eat healthy food, I know loads about nutrition, I cook nice meals, I know exactly what to do but on a regular basis it’s like there’s no off switch and I just eat and eat and eat. Thousands and thousands of calories.

i watched a video by Dr Emma Anders on YouTube. She’s not on a microdose but on 2.5 but what she says about why she used to binge was really illuminating - dieting made her feel unwell because she was so hyper aware of food and she was overeating just to feel normal. I can resonate with that - I binge eat to get some peace and some sleep as it makes me drowsy. Sounded similar to her reasoning and she’s responded amazingly and looks incredible.
