I can’t seem to find out how many clicks to microdose my pen to avoid side effects. 😓

I searched for a thread on micro-dosing and this one came up. I just have one really stupid question probably bit do you have to go to the Dr to get the drugs prescribed? What are the criteria? I am not obese and probably still just about a 'healthy' BMI but I've the most awful peri- menopause belly that I can't shift and wondered if this might help.

SilenceInside · 27/04/2025 21:36

@Mrsbadger77 the NHS are currently extremely unlikely to prescribe Mounjaro or Wegovy for people who are morbidly obese with weight related health problems. They absolutely don't prescribe it to people who are a healthy weight. It's a prescription only medication for people who are obese or overweight with weight related health issues.

People who get Mounjaro or Wegovy prescribed are getting it via a private prescription from a regulated online pharmacy and still have to meet the prescribing criteria - a BMI over 30, or a BMI over 27 with a weight related health condition, or a BMI over 27 whilst being one of a list of ethnicities where obese is classified as BMI 27 or above.

So, you do not meet the prescribing criteria.

OldChairMan · 27/04/2025 21:38

Yes, they are prescribed drugs, @Mrsbadger77. Mainly via online pharmacies. You have to be obese to have them prescribed, BMI over 30, or BMI over 27 with a comorbidity such as high blood pressure.

There are doctors, in the USA especially, prescribing microdoses from compounding pharmacies for reduction of inflammation, minor weight loss etc, but that is not what this group of drugs are licensed for.

Mrsbadger77 · 27/04/2025 21:43

Thank you, I thought that would be the case , but had read an article on it in a newspaper of people like myself using micro-dosing to shift some stubborn weight. I can't remember what it said about where they got it but I guess this means they got it on the black market or such. Which obviously I wouldn't do. I don't fully understand the ins and outs of it but obviously it's not for me.

You will loose a lot of money.. pen only lasts 30 days

All that matters is the efficacy of the medication: weight loss without intolerable side effects. If I achieve that by using part of a pen, how have I wasted money?

Idioticwoman · 27/04/2025 23:01

I’ve been micro dosing - between mainly 20 and 30 clicks. I have strong suppression barely able to eat 1200 calories a day and often much less and also had bad side effects when I’ve not eaten clean including sulphur burps and vomiting (I had taken 45 clicks that time) and I don’t think negative side effects are a placebo effect! I clearly am someone who reacts very strongly to a small dose so won’t be increasing it. I have IBS and very prone to stomach upset which is why I started small and was right to do so.

HAPPYYSTAR · 14/06/2025 18:19

Hi- did this work well for you please? Did you do 30 clicks for more weeks? Thank you ☺️

lollypop42 · 14/06/2025 23:14

i thought micro dosing meant taking a very small dose each day?

Not for GLP-1 agonists (what you've described sounds more like psychedelics). Microdosing Mounjaro means taking small doses, often more frequently than every week, eg 1mg every five days. Five days is the half-life of MJ and the point where many people feel effects decreasing.

Dr Kevin Joseph's YouTube videos are helpful.

lollypop42 · 15/06/2025 00:16

@OldChairMan thank you 👌

MrsAMB77 · 21/06/2025 11:54

Hi, I am thinking of starting microdosing munjaro. How long do you keep the pen? Thanks

KrankyKumquat · 21/06/2025 12:00

@MrsAMB77
I do 6 doses so one dose 7 days after the 30 day limit. I have done 7 on one occasion with no noticeable difference, but personally, 6 doses suits me financially, for re-ordering rules and for managing any potential risks.

Idioticwoman · 21/06/2025 12:32

I kept it as long as I needed in the fridge. I know it’s not what’s recommended but I’m sure there’s a big safety margin.

KrankyKumquat · 21/06/2025 13:29

@Idioticwoman
I've been on MJ related social media for a year now and not seen a single report by anyone saying they've had problems with skin infections, etc. There's no way this drug would be prescribed and administered in the way it is, if it was a ticking time bomb after 30 days.

MrsAMB77 · 21/06/2025 19:44

Thank you! How are you finding it?

MrsAMB77 · 21/06/2025 19:50

Hi, how has it worked for you keeping to that dose? Still loosing weight?
Thanks

KrankyKumquat · 21/06/2025 20:46

@MrsAMB77
I'm on maintenance now. Started last May, lost 6st by November, reduced dose from 12.5mg to 3mg very gradually since then. It's been fine, although I did lose quite a lot of extra weight early on, I'm holding steady now at bmi 20.

MrsAMB77 · 21/06/2025 21:49

Wow that is amazing! Well done. Thanks

KrankyKumquat · 21/06/2025 22:05

@MrsAMB77
You're welcome! I'm presuming you're maybe just starting out?

MrsAMB77 · 21/06/2025 23:03

Yes, looking in to starting Minjaro on a micro dose.

KrankyKumquat · 22/06/2025 08:28

@MrsAMB77
Ah I see. Microdosing as a new starter is a whole other subject. My initial thoughts are: 2.5mg is the starter dose you take to get used to the med, before moving up the doses. Some people respond well to it, but most need higher doses to lose significant weight. Some people have side effects at 2.5, but many more don't. The risk of microdosing as a newbie is that it actually does nothing and you waste your money. Taking a new-to-you drug in a way not prescribed or recommended or tested in the most significant trials has therefore, lots of unknowns. Also be aware that prescribers will only let you start on 2.5 (so you won't be able to buy a bigger pen and use it multiple times), and will be expecting you to buy your 2nd pen within a 4 week period approximately. Obviously there's ways round this but you'll need to figure this out for yourself. I'm wondering how/why you've come to the decision to start this way.

Edited to add: i haven't microdosed at all. I've just used my pen, during maintenance, for longer than 30 days as I've reduced dose, which was the original question I was responding to.

OldChairMan · 22/06/2025 10:03

If you're microdosing from the start you wouldn't want a 5mg pen, @KrankyKumquat. And there's no issue with not reordering on schedule. You don't need a way around it, you just order when you're ready.

You also don't waste money by starting slow. I started on 1.25mg, having cleared it as safe with an endocrinologist as this was before microdosing was relatively widespread. I had amazing suppression immediately. If it did nothing, you'd just increase the next week. What is a waste is the minority of people who have awful side effects on 2.5mg initially and have to stop.

MrsAMB77 · 22/06/2025 10:38

Thanks, I have read a lot of good things about keeping the dose low. Many people use it for its benefits on a very low dose even if they don’t need to lose weight. I have about 16 lbs to lose and was going to try 1.25 the first month to see if any benefits if not I will go up.

MrsAMB77 · 22/06/2025 10:50

Thanks, I was thinking this. How long have you been on it for and how do you find it? Thanks
