FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/01/2025 10:00

Fantastic we made it to thread 2!

This is a thread for all those who have started or are about to start the Shemed programme in January.

Those waiting for blood tests /first pens hope you hear soon!
Those on their first/second jab hope it's going well - do come and tell us how it's going.

This is designed as a supportive space to share with each other how it's going, worries, side effects as well celebrating wins and results :)

Went for a routine Nurse appointment at my GP. She was remarkably positive and interested about me taking Mounjaro.

There was no record of it on my notes, so it does seem that they are not successfully notifying the GP.

Shmallow · 31/01/2025 11:51

I wouldn't be surprised if they just aren't bothering to add it on to people's medical records. Getting my surgery to do literally anything other than gate keep is completely impossible.

Peoniesandcats · 31/01/2025 11:57

Hi all,

I did my first jab on Wednesday and have experienced feeling cold, nauseous and tired - but I’m always tired! Also found myself lying in bed at night not sure if I’m actually sleeping - it’s a strange feeling.

So far today has been much better though.

im 5’3
sw 73.5 kg
gw 60.5 kg

I need to lose a couple of stones to be a healthy bmi and feel better in my own skin!

RachCmomma · 31/01/2025 13:12

2nd jab today... am nervous but going to do it now.

Haven't noticed much in the way of side effects so far. Lost 1kg according to check-in this morning.

Have got friends round for dinner tonight so really hoping I don't get awful side effects now xx

Doggymummar · 31/01/2025 13:24

Can I ask, because I was thinking about shemed before I decided against it. Some of you seem to be looking to lose a couple of stone, how does that stack up being signed up for a year? I started with ten stone to lose and now have four stone to lose, but I figured that won't take me a year so it's not the plan for me. How do they deal with it or does the year include maintenance? Kicking myself now paying over 200 a month for 15mg!

kittykarate · 31/01/2025 13:29

To be honest, they are a bit woolly on what happens when you get to goal weight, some of their processes seem to be invented on the day.

I have 25kg to lose, so if I average 1kg/2lbs a week, then I'll be done by July, but we all know that weight loss isn't that easy or linear. It gets tougher to shift the last bits, so I'm probably not going to get there until late in the year, and then I'll use my last few months to titrate down the doses to ease off the medication. Hopefully by then they'll have an onwards plan for maintenance.

This is also my hope, I'm not sure what their minimum BMI is but my hope is to get to 22 and then maintain that for the remainder of the time, either titrating down or moving on to a maintenance plan as long as it isn't £199pm or by then the tablet might be out and cheaper

minerva7 · 31/01/2025 14:03

I haven't read to the end of the thread... it's moving on quick!

My blood test has arrived. I'll do it Monday and post it back.

I have a question. I am on a lot of medication for various things. I'm worried that Mounjaro might react unfavourably with any of them. Did SheMed ask for a list of your medications before you started jabbing to make sure it was safe? I so hope it will be ok I'm desperate to try it.

Eirasnow · 31/01/2025 14:26

Has anyone started in the last week? Just wondering how long it takes them to review bloods. Mine were received yesterday and have been waiting review around 24hrs. Plus I can’t see them yet, do we not see the report until the clinician has reviewed them? Never refreshed an app so much in my life!

ThinBy50 · 31/01/2025 14:46

I have just signed up and ordered my blood test. Couldn’t decide if I was brave enough to sign up to SheMed but decided it was now or never. Am excited/terrified of what’s to come. I have 5stone to shed and am struggling with feeling so ashamed that I have let myself get into this state. It’s great to know that so many of us are going to be doing this at the same time. X

Peoniesandcats · 31/01/2025 14:49

I was just happy to commit to the year to lose a couple of stone, then hopefully maintain if I lose it quicker. Plus I did look at other suppliers but they didn’t approve me because my bmi wasn’t over 30. SheMed approved me because my BMI was obese alongside my height and ethnicity.

after my blood test results it still took about 1.5 days to be approved

They ask for a full list of medications and medical conditions.

Once my bloods were in I got an email asking about my gallbladder surgery which I answered, and was approved the next day.

Mine were received Thursday last week.

Results came in on Sunday plus an email querying my gallbladder surgery. I replied on Monday, prescription issued Tuesday, medication received Wednesday.

Weird, slightly TMI side effect question. Has anyone had a funny tummy where it feels like they’re going to have diarrhoea but when they try and go they’re actually constipated? A few times today I’ve had some horrible cramps and I feel like I need to rush to the loo but nothing? But it’s also not like when you’re constipated and uncomfortable trying to go.

Other than that day W1 day 2. Early days but so far I’m still ok for side effects. Feel utterly freezing but I’m from a hot country living in a freezing country so that’s standard for this time of year.

Also does anyone else feel it’s not working/doing anything for them but have completely changed their behaviour without realising. Because I’ve been absolutely convinced I feel no different but today without thinking about it I made about half what I’d usually have for lunch, haven’t snacked since and when my son asked if I wanted him to get me anything from the shop while I was out while I was initially like ‘ooooh yes I’ll have….’ I then couldn’t think of a single thing I fancied eating.

I could not agree more with your comment about not feeling it's doing anything different and then I think about how little (appropriate amount of course) that I've eaten today compared to a 'normal' day and how I've not obsessed over food.

I normally have breakfast at around 9am and then am STARVING come 11am but evidently I wasn't and didn't even finish my breakfast. I guess that's how it goes. It's funny, isn't it? As in, this is what 'normal' people do - i.e. not think about food all day.

TaliaTalia · 31/01/2025 17:26

It’s SO weird isn’t it? I knew I had a terrible relationship with food but this is really making me consider what the issues are and where they came from whereas for most of my adult life I’ve just thought of myself as greedy/lazy/addicted/a compulsive overeater when actually now what I think that my brain has been wired wrong, probably after decades of negative food experiences.

I was loading the dishwasher yesterday after dinner, and PURELY by habit I took a leftover chip from my daughter's plate and threw it in my mouth. Took one chew and my brain was like "yuck, not hungry, no" and it's like it turned to mush in my mouth and it felt disgusting. Spat it out.

Can tell you right now that's never happened to me before 😂I am/was a terrible grazer.

Fofftwenty21 · 31/01/2025 18:40

Welcome @thinby50 completely understand the feeling of now or never. I also have at least 5 stone to lose.

And yes it's weird how you think it's not doing anything but then realise you haven't eaten!

SnowieBear · 31/01/2025 18:53

Got home to my first delivery. Had to explain to my 18 yo DS when he spotted the sharps bin - I know he worries about my health, he was perfectly OK with it.

So... Watched a YouTube video on injecting, read the instructions and got on with it! Weight check in was fast - lost 2.2kg since signing up for the programme - and first jab is done and dusted with.

Strange to think it's W1D1 for me 😊

Got a very busy day tomorrow - Pilates first thing in the morning, usual Saturday running around with a million chores and friends around in the evening for games and food - really keeping everything crossed I manage to get through the day without any major side effects.

DH got his report today, so hoping he'll be approved and on the same journey with me early next week!

My W1D2 was fine. Occasional stomach cramp and maybe twenty minutes of mild nausea right before dinner (think I was hungry?). Fingers crossed it’ll be just as easy for you.

I can resonate with this so much..! I normally finish my kids plates aswell.. but can't finish my own anymore. I've been splitting my plate into 2 and only managed to take the very top of a plain chow mein earlier. It's life changing isn't it!.

I can't wait to go and pick up more salad items tomorrow! First time I've ever emptied my whole fridge of healthy stuff in a week.

X

Brilliant thank you @Newshoesnewname you've put my mind at ease 🙏🏻

Now I'm gonna be worrying if they will accept me when I tell them I everything I take 😭😂

Misslola1999 · 31/01/2025 22:21

Hello!
Can I join?
Finally posted off my bloods today after a 2 week glitch with my app (blood test kit was still showing as not delivered when I had it) but SheMed were great!
I have about 4st to lose!
I'm a lone parent and have neglected myself the last few years and now it's time to take back control!
This is a very reassuring thread so thank you for making my decision to do it that bit easier!

Great updates everyone 👍 W2 D4 I still have had no side effects - possibly a bit cold but it is bloody freezing anyway so who knows. The appetite suppression is slightly lower this week I reckon, but I'm still managing to stick to the diet pretty easily, usually it would be torture. Still not told anyone including my OH. I'm actually doing a test to see if anyone notices, ha ha

@Bear2014 I amW2Day 5 and also curious as to how much weight loss before people notice.
I am sure I read 10-14lbs is noticeable in clothes but wonder when your face changes.

gillirhys · 01/02/2025 00:05

Well all, a little update!! It's just turned mignight and today i finally get my replacement pen for the one which broke. I phoned, I emailed, I posted on Shemed UK Facebook group, I used messenger. It's taken 5 days to get any response.
5 days without injection. Today is day 6.
The support is shocking.
It was Messenger that finally got them moving so if anyone else has issues, use that channel first. They don't phone back and their emails are stock.
Hopefully tomorrow I can finally take jab2
