FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/01/2025 10:00

Fantastic we made it to thread 2!

This is a thread for all those who have started or are about to start the Shemed programme in January.

Those waiting for blood tests /first pens hope you hear soon!
Those on their first/second jab hope it's going well - do come and tell us how it's going.

This is designed as a supportive space to share with each other how it's going, worries, side effects as well celebrating wins and results :)

How long after your third check in do they take the money for the next pen? I need to make sure the money is in the right account in time!

It seems as soon as you complete the feedback which appears on the app after third check-in the process for next prescription and payment is triggered

TaliaTalia · 30/01/2025 10:49

Is there room for one more?
Followed this thread after I decided to give it a go and have just taken first jab today around half an hour ago.

How long was it before anyone noticed side effects (either positive or negative). I’m sat bracing myself as I’m a fairly weak stomached person to begin with 😂

Earthgirl3971 · 30/01/2025 10:51

Week 2
Day 1
Just checked In and my first loss is 4lb 4. I'm very pleased with that.. the most I've lost in a weigh in in a very long time!

I have to say I followed all the advice about keeping hydrated, and eating lightly and upping exercise and choosing the healthy foods and I'm happy I've had such a big loss. I've only had positive side effects so far also.

Can I ask are people reporting positive side effects on the app at check in also, or are they only interested in the bad side effects?

I should have looked myself but I just hit no as I've felt fine all week but I wish I could tell them that this is a pain reliever for me also :-) my usual gynae issues / uterine conditions feel all disappeared.

I also think it's a muscle relaxants as having a prolapse I can struggle to hold my pelvic floor now as the amount I'm drinking increases.

Well done!! 🥳 that's an amazing loss. 6lbs for me, which is a pretty typical first week loss for me. I tend to shed loads of water weight, anticipating a far less significant number next week.

I didn't report any side-effects, good or bad. I suspect they really only want the bad ones? I've had a headache and a bit of constipation but absolutely nothing to write home about so I didn't bother.

I've had really good clarity of mind for the entire week. No idea if it's the healthier food or the medication but I'm not grumbling either way.

Absolutely the same. I've given myself a couple of treats after dinner this week but I've had clear thoughts about what I want to do and why. I haven't eaten mindlessly at all.

That's a brilliant loss! Well done.. we'll be skinny in no time if we keep losing like this.

I tried to do up jeans buttons but sadly lost nothing from the middle section yet! 🤣

I have messaged them about recording positive side effects as if they are interested in positive ones. Ill update the group once they respond.

Just in response to my last update. They are looking at building a positive side effects record into the app! Cool. But for now just pop it onto the 3 week questionnaire. X

Thanks @DIYMum I've done the questionnaire and made sure the money is in there!

@Earthgirl3971 I'm interested in this too. I take medication for very heavy periods which are still heavy even with that, however this month it seems lighter, even taking into account the meds. I'll absolutely take that as a side effect, hoping it continues!

themumformerlyknownas · 30/01/2025 13:48

👋hi everyone. W1D3 over here and scales are showing a 2kg loss already.

But dear lord, how are you all coping with the Sulphur burps!?

No other debilitating side effects yet, thankfully. Small bruise around the injection site but otherwise, today is the first time I've noticed anything thanks to these burps.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 30/01/2025 14:39

@Shmallow pretty much straight after completing the 3rd week questionnaire. Def good to know that's coming!!

@BruhWhy Thankfully! I needed to check he was on board as we're not particularly high income (I really need another job!) and it's a lot for us each month. I'm glad it's a regular amount though rather than chasing deals each month. He's really supportive and talked it all through with me. I'm morbidly obese so he knows I need to Do Something.

Welcome @TaliaTalia !

@Earthgirl3971 and @BruhWhy @themumformerlyknownas yay for grear first weeks and losses.

I reported negative side effects on the week 3 questionnaire as I guess that's what they want to know.

Hadn't thought about reporting positives!

I've reported the feeling cold as I thought they should know and as it was an "other" got a call back which I was impressed about! Obviously not a concern but it was a nice pharmacist.

I feel clearer today about life than usual but I also think I have adhd and wonder if it helps that. Maybe it just balances us out in so many ways...

For those that have moved up to 5mg have you had more / different side effects than being in 2.5mg?

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 30/01/2025 14:42

I move up a week tomorrow so not there yet!

I'm anticipating it's the worst increase as it's doubling...

Took my first dose at lunchtime (2.5mg). I did the weigh in and I somehow lost 1.3 kg between my blood test weigh in and this one (nerves about doing this I imagine, or being hyperconscious of my intake? I may sound smug but honestly, I've had a life time of being 'big' and I'm sick of it. I'm sick of the constant thinking about food, the constant worry about being hungry etc. Ready for change!

Have you tried the herbal teas they recommended? I havent had any burps since my first or second day and I think it's because I drink lots of that tea.

Hello! W2D7 - looking forward to jabbing tomorrow, feeling hungry & some noise today.

I'm not sure whether I'm imagining it, but I think I am getting more hair loss (my shower plug hole certainly thinks so!). I've got pretty fine hair anyway, so it's a bit of a worry. Has anyone got any tips?

Oh no I hadn't thought of that! Thank you! I'm very much a coffee lover so might struggle with herbal teas but I shall be giving them a go. I'm sure I have some in the cupboard that I've nabbed from hotel stays in the past.

Earthgirl3971 · 30/01/2025 15:54

Oh no! Personally I take inositol in a gummy form which is a B vitamin that the body needs so Its just as good as biotin for hair and nails but has extra things in that help uterine conditions. They should help I'm sure.

I haven't suffered with burps of any description. Hard to say if the meds are causing constipation because my bowels have never been regular. I can easily go a week only going once - which no doc has ever been concerned about!!
I suffer with chronic migraines so again hard to say whether a headache is med related or not.

I also lost between ordering bloods and first check in and was quite shocked when I did.

Unofficially lost 4.3kg since ordering the blood test and having done my second check in today. But I've changed scales so will have a better gauge of true loss at next week's check in.

For the first time in probably my entire adult life I am eating three meals a days! Struggling to get my calories in though. I haven't counted for the milk in my coffee today but I still have approx 1000 to get in and that's after my evening meal! I'm nowhere near eating enough protein either. I'm just not hungry. (It feels so good to be able to say that - before I would constantly feel starving whether I had just eaten or not)

I was down a little between my blood test weigh in and now too. For me it was definitely a fluke because I went hard on the ‘must eat everything now because I might not want it once I start’ 🙈

bluesmartie83 · 30/01/2025 16:05

Has anyone felt the suppression wasn't has noticeable with the 2nd jab? I was feeling nauseous this morning but it was gone within a few hours and I've steadily worked through my day. I was really hungry and ready to dive into my lunch which hasn't really been evident with the 1st jab. I'm home and quite tired so going to have a quick nap before I start tea etc! @themumformerlyknownas I am a string coffee drinker - don't like tea. I have found I can drink peppermint tea which has helped with the small burps I had initially and have consciously increased my water because previously I only drank coffee. I do actually feel better for it! @FeverDreamer I take a collagen supplement exactly due to this! My hair thinned as I turned 40 and a friend recommended it. I have it in my morning coffee. It dissolves and is tasteless. I can honestly say my hair is much thicker (I did have a period where I had loads of sticky out baby hairs) and my nails are in the best condition they have ever been.

That's what I thought too! Those savoury jalapeno and cheddar scones were consumed with real gusto! But then, I think I've been more conscious of trying to listen to my body and appetite (often failed, hence the scones).

Primotomb · 30/01/2025 16:14

Checked in this morning and I'm 6lbs down in my first week on MJ and 15lbs down since I signed up to SheMed on 3rd January. I'm hoping I've started as I mean to go on, but huge amount of weight to lose so in this for the long haul. Not had any negative side effects so far, but definitely seeing some improvements in inflammation - puffy ankles are gone and swelling in my knuckles is much reduced.

TaliaTalia · 30/01/2025 16:16

So I took my first jab about seven hours ago and I don’t know if it’s psychosomatic or not but something is definitely afoot.
Husband (who can eat anything, do nothing and remain as skinny as a rake 🙄) brought home a sandwich each from our favourite deli at lunch. Normally I’d inhale the lot and go mooching for something sweet afterwards. Today I looked at it thought ‘I’m not going to manage all of that,’ cut it in half and saved the rest for dinner.
The weirdest part was it felt automatic, like it’s something I’d been doing all my life rather than being probably a literal first for me.
Anyway, no side effects so far bar a weird dry/not dry mouth and slight throat tickle but I just realised I haven’t even thought about snacks so far since lunch. I have ADHD and am a constant sensory snacker, always looking for something crunchy (salty/fatty crunchy not nice healthy carrot crunchy).

Only massive downside so far is that I really cannot be bothered making dinner but I have five kids to feed so going to have to drag my bum down to the kitchen soon 😂

Those of you on your second or third week, what are you eating for snacks and meals?

Kaggi9 · 30/01/2025 19:03

So, I’m due to start tomorrow. The injection is in the fridge all ready to go. Does anyone have any advice? How long do I need to set aside? Do I just call them on the app when I’m ready?

Thanks in advance for the advice!
