Fantastic we made it to thread 2!

This is a thread for all those who have started or are about to start the Shemed programme in January.

Those waiting for blood tests /first pens hope you hear soon!
Those on their first/second jab hope it's going well - do come and tell us how it's going.

This is designed as a supportive space to share with each other how it's going, worries, side effects as well celebrating wins and results :)

And yes it seems a shame to waste the leftover dose. I would so have been doing that if I hadnt been on this plan! Maybe an idea for a year's time...

I've struggled with the nausea but it's got better each jab I've had and this time it was just 24 hours and when I wake up.

Do talk to them though. They do call you back if you report side effects that you are struggling with. Have you tried the bits I t he bag? Obviously we're not medical so I'd suggest talking to them if it's not okay.

Hi, yes I've taken the diarrhea relief but there is nothing in there for nausea. I feel like I want to vomit all the time but can't. I've logged the symptoms so hopefully I get a call back. Not sure ai want to continue with this, it is a lot more extreme than I was expecting. I don't think it is playing nice with my IBS. Feel a bit of a failure to be honest

bluesmartie83 · 27/01/2025 08:09

Today is W1D5 and is the first day I can honestly say I've felt unwell. I'm up and out early for work and I'm sat at my desk feeling nauseous (quite sick with a lump in my throat). I've drunk a ton of water and I'm hoping it passes soon because I have a busy day ahead! The suppression wasn't very strong yesterday and had to really dig into my will power to not overeat but today I'm not wanting food at all! Not sure if I've picked up the bug that is doing the rounds at work! I'm usually quite robust but today I just wanted to roll over and go back to sleep! Hoping it fades away as the day progresses.

Bigknickers56 · 27/01/2025 09:11

I know it sounds disgusting, but does anyone get a horrible taste in their mouth? It tastes like vomit 🤢 I don't actually feel sick but I have had quite bad acid reflux at night so maybe it is that.

PurpleClare50 · 27/01/2025 09:18

@Bigknickers56 pretty sure that sounds related to acid reflux. I get what I call sick burps where it feels like a bit of sick comes up when you burp but it's just acid coming up. Try using the gaviscon and when I get it at night I try to sleep sitting up slightly

DIYMum · 27/01/2025 09:39

@badgersnakemushroom I hope the side effects pass - I know I was close to quitting after 48 hours of diarrhoea and headaches and felt gutted. It seems to be a bit of a side effects lottery and there’s limits to what we can tolerate. Good luck speaking to SheMed Pharmacist - I found them really understanding and supportive. ❤️

tinyemmy · 27/01/2025 09:50

I weighed myself after skiing and I've lost a pound! I normally put on a few pounds skiing!
I have also been approved for 5mg which is exciting!

Thank you, I feel stupid feeling like I can't hack it but I suppose I was naive and didn't think I'd get a bad reaction. Did yours pass after the 48hrs? Have you had another jab since?

Lostatsea10 · 27/01/2025 11:02

Hi, I’ve just found she med whilst researching options and providers and like the appeal of their £99 pm annual subscription. Have people found them a good provider? Feeling so so overwhelmed with the options and want to make a good choice. Been nervous but can’t carry on as I am.

bigboykitty · 27/01/2025 11:04

Sympathies with @NervousPoster1 , @badgersnakemushroom and everyone having bad side effects. I was okay initially after first injection (though 48 hours of being ice cold and some pain/reflux in the week) but side effects were awful after second injection and I had to see the emergency doctor at the weekend. Have requested a call back twice for side effects but not had a response yet. In any case, I will be skipping next week's injection on medical advice and realistically am probably done with Mounjaro
Did anyone consider changing to a different injection? I know SheMed will do this. The suppression was great, but side effects absolutely unmanageable.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 27/01/2025 11:13

I found interestingly that after 2nd injection last night, I have not had the same side effects as week one, but also the suppression which had worn off by Saturday week 1 has not returned with this injection.
I am having to be very very strong willed not to eat but thinking about all sorts of food I want. It's a battle.
Wondering if the nausea was actually my suppression week 1 🤷‍♀️

Reginaphalangeeeee · 27/01/2025 11:14

I do have the dry tongue and constant need to wee effects back with tiredness I should add, just not the nausea etc

NervousPoster1 · 27/01/2025 11:19

Update from me:
I had emailed SheMed on Saturday night informing them of the severity of my side effects and my wish to cancel as I didn't feel it safe for me to continue. They emailed me back last night and confirmed that they had cancelled my plan and that no further payments would be taken. There was no questions asked, no further evidence required, they were very apologetic and I felt no pressure whatsoever to continue.
SheMed has been great for me - Mounjaro, not so much.
Good luck to everyone!

kittykarate · 27/01/2025 11:20

Hi @badgersnakemushroom you weren't naive, you were just hopeful. The side effects is a lottery, I can't remember where I read it, but it was something like 1% will have really unpleasant side effects, 10% will have notable side effects and I think there wasn't a ratio for people who just felt a bit off colour on the jab.

It's not your fault if you can't take the jab, it is not for everyone - I mean this is why so many different variants developed when it was a diabetes drug, because it did not suit all of the patients.

@badgersnakemushroom The worst of the side effects did wear off after 48 hours - Dioralyte helped with the headaches as I must have been dehydrated. I’ve now had 3 doses and side effects have changed to dry mouth and not being able to sleep 🙄. Hoping it wears off when I build up a tolerance to MJ.
I wonder if Gaviscon might help with the nausea - might be worth a try. Fingers crossed for you that it clears up.

badgersnakemushroom · 27/01/2025 12:12

Thank you all. I have chatted to my doctor and they said I can get some anti nausea tablets from the pharmacy so will pop out and get some. I am feeling a little better but still nauseated and a little headache. I'll give it a few days and see how I am to see if I can muster the courage to take another jab. I really hope everyone suffering bad side effects starts to feel better soon.

AuntieOnSheMed · 27/01/2025 12:20

So I’m on day two. I haven’t really had any side effects yet but I can feel the food noise stopping? Like, I got to a point yesterday where I suddenly realised I wasn’t considering having a snack when I usually would (we were watching a film yesterday afternoon.) I even gave my dad a big bowl of my favourite rubbishy crisps and wasn’t the least bit tempted to get my own bowl. I had a couple but that was it! Had a small portion for dinner compared to the rest of the family but wasn’t eager to have any more. Maybe it’s psychosomatic, maybe it’s working already - either way I’m thrilled.

Funnily enough my sister was talking about jabs this morning as one of her friends is considering starting but I kept quiet - I don’t want to tell anyone until I can show that it’s working.

SeaStoat · 27/01/2025 12:24

You can pick a day that suits you.

I found the same! Day 3 was when I really started to feel the suppression kick in, and that's when the headache started. I had to make myself eat. Day 4 (yesterday) and today, no headache.

Feeling a bit hungrier today but it's completely manageable, not the all-consuming, need to eat a huge calorific meal ASAP or I might die feeling, brought on by blood sugar crashes most likely. Doesn't help that I'm working from home today and in arms reach of the fridge and I'm bored out of my mind.

Fingers crossed everything keeps going well for you 🤞🏻

kittykarate · 27/01/2025 12:32

I'm on week3 day 6 at 2.5mg, and I would say the snack gremlin is starting to knock on the door to my mind again. I woke up at 4am, and found myself planning what food I could eat today. I mean PLANNING, not just idly going 'there's some chicken in the fridge that needs using'

I find that I'm waking up more in the middle of the night than usual, and having a job getting back to sleep.

The subscription model might not be for everyone because to get the discounted price you have to agree to Thier terms, including check ins etc. You are tied in for 12 months unless there is a medical reason to discontinue.

For me though it's the right choice because:

  1. I have a lot of weight too loose so will not be at goal anyway in 12 months
  2. I can barely afford £99 and would not be able to do the new supplier/code lottery every month
  3. I'm happy to push through all but the most severe side effects because the risk to my health if remaining severely morbidly obese are worse

I've been happy with the service so far and have just been prescribed my first pen so hoping to start on Thursday if it arrives on time .

BruhWhy · 27/01/2025 13:43

I could have written this. All the reasons I went with SheMed, brilliantly put 👏

Reginaphalangeeeee · 27/01/2025 13:46

@kittykarate my sleep also been worse since starting. More sure if I'm tired because of disturbed sleep or if MJ itself makes you tired.

Also worried as jab 2 yesterday has not restarted my suppression so I am finding it really hard and all consuming to make good choices. Want that wonderful peace I had last week.

Maybe if you weigh more you get used to dose quicker?

Lostatsea10 · 27/01/2025 13:48

I have about 5-6 stone to lose depending on what feels right when there so think it will be at least a year so happy to subscribe. It just feels so overwhelming. Hope all goes well for you and your first dose!

Edit- apologies I forgot to quote @Newshoesnewname so my comment seems totally out of context!

Newshoesnewname · 27/01/2025 13:54

Thanks all

I am really nervous, but after 40 years of dieting but still being the heaviest I've ever been, this feels like my last ditch attempt!
