November β€˜24 starters thread 6 - The one where it’s still January but we keep losing πŸ’ͺ🏻

Welcome to thread 6 friends old and new! Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we traverse into 2025 with new bodies and new mindsets πŸ₯°

I’m on W11D5 and on my second 5mg pen
F in her early 50’s
H 5’ 5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 12st 2.2lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look too saggy!)
Total loss so far 23lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in my system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes, tips for side effects and we love a beauty/fitness/style chat too.

Happy Friday!

Weigh in and jab today. A disappointing 1.3lb down. I think after my next pen I'm going to have to move up to the 7.5mg dose. 15kg down in total since the beginning of November though I'm still firmly in the obese BMI category.

I tried beans on toast for my dinner last night. Ate most of it. Had also snacked on a glass of wine and crisps as met up with my friend. Wine was a real struggle. Just didn't enjoy it at all. Most unlike me.

Thank you for all your responses. I am keeping an eye on my depression as have a few work things going on too which isn't helping. The food control thing and the guilty feeling when eating anything is completely new for me though. Lunches especially I need to find something filling and warm. I'm just really very down on myself.

Edited

Keep posting. we’re all here to help πŸ’

I have an enormous rib cage, even more so since having a 10lb baby, and my hips are a size 12 even without flesh

It can be quite frustrating can’t it! I mean, perhaps from an evolutionary perspective we may be stronger or showing signs of our Amazonian roots, but when I’m trying to get a bra which actually fits it’s a nightmare.

The BMI chat has for me wondering if we have target BMIs in mind? I'd originally thought 25 to hit the 'healthy' band but have now set 24 as my goal. I'm in my 50s and worried about saggy skin and looking gaunt. My main aim really is to look better in clothes but also to be fitter and stronger. Reading through other posts it seems lots of people are going much lower down and it's made me wonder if I should be aiming for a lower BMI?

I’m aiming for 10 stone rather than bmi, but that would give me a bmi of 23.

Is anyone else absolutely freezing most of the time?

I just can’t seem to warm up after getting cold so after a walk with the kids earlier my ears still hurt!

i’ve not experienced that so far but I’m enjoying a nightly hot water bottle πŸ₯°

I can’t quite accept how little my shape has changed despite losing 10% of my weight. It feels like there’s a long way to go.

I’ve set up a specific weight loss album in my phone. I take a picture every week in workout clothing. I can see the difference. Maybe try that?

I know from experience and from talking to a few different doctors that BMI doesn't work for me. I'll be too thin for my frame and starving. I'm 5'10, big boned and do a lot of weight lifting so I will be aiming for somewhere around 14-16 stone. 14 stone would put me just under obese by BMI standards. But I know I like how I look at 16 stone so it's probably going to be dictated by how my knees feel!

Have the burning indigestion tonight and the vomit burps πŸ˜’ I had less indigestion for the first two 5mg jabs, but I think that it is when I start to eat that everything starts to burn. I can’t decide if eating something will make it better or worse. The Rennies haven’t touched it. But I am so close to tipping into that 10st bracket, so sometimes going well 😁 Almost half way to goal weight.

Sorry to hear about the burbs but halfway is a huge achievement!

The scales didn’t go down as much this week as have in others but possibly because my period came two weeks early. BMI has gone down by 9 now though since starting so that is really great. Still so much to go!

Great reduction on the BMI πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Jab day today:
SW 13st 3lb
CW 12st 2lb
GW 10st something

Just realised my bra size has actually got smaller. Still basically filling out a J cup but the 34 backs are too big so they aren't providing enough support and are pushing quite painfully down on my ribcage. Those things are HEAVY. But the couple of 34Hs I still held on to are a tiny bit small. So I reckon I need at least one new (expensive) bra now rather than waiting. Maybe 34HH? Tricky to know!

Go down a band size and up a cup. I’d try a 32H and see how you go.

1.3lbs is still 1.3lbs! That's another step in the right direction and it all counts.
I had to convert to old money as my brain refuses to understand what a kg means in practical terms but that's 33lbs since November? That's incredible progress!

Thank you it is and I'm pleased but I'm still a good sz 20 so clothes wise I've not moved.

If I could get to 3 stone I'd be happy. Any more then that and I think I would look ill yet I'd still be way over an overweight bmi. I've lost my boobs. I don't think my underlying hips will ever change. I need to learn to accept myself.

I can really understand how much you want to see results in a tangible way - clothes size, shape. I have some thoughts about this which I have arranged in a neat list!

(a) I think you've probably changed shape more than you think. People don't know how to comment on size and shape these days so they don't necessarily just go "you've lost weight" the way they might have done twenty years ago. It's annoying when you're doing it deliberately!

(b) When the going is slow, the thing I always remind myself of is that it's still progress. I remember in my late 20s I was really overweight and knew I needed to lose weight. For a long time I put it off because I couldn't see how I'd lose the weight I needed to before I was 30 and that felt like too long to wait. And then one day I realised that I was going to be 30 anyway, and I could either be a slightly slimmer and healthier 30 or I could be the same at 30 as at 29.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is - you're doing the work and it will pay off.

Hi everyone, sorry I’ve barely posted for ages, have had a lot of family illnesses going on, kind of just want this winter to be over now.

namechangedyetagain a huge well done on your 15kg loss so far! πŸ‘ Also just to encourage you about the weekly loss, it’s still great progress and slow and steady is meant to be good way to keep it off long term too. I’m losing about a pound a week at the moment and some weeks no loss.

How we feel emotionally plays a huge part of how we see ourselves and others, I’m sorry you’re feeling low/ depressed and hope you have support IRL as well as on here. Sending you a big hug today and I think you’ve honestly done brilliantly, keep going πŸ’ If you’re on meds for it maybe worth having a chat with your GP, to make sure the MJ isn’t interacting with it and reducing the effectiveness? I’ve had to increase one of my medication doses a bit since starting MJ but is all good now am on a higher dose.

I don’t know if this will make you feel any better but I’ve lost 1 stone 5lbs so far and still squarely in size 20’s shape wise. It’s a long game with this wonderful drug and we will get there! πŸ€—

KeepCalmandGiveItaGo · 26/01/2025 13:39

One update is have switched to Cloud pharmacy and all good with them so far πŸ‘ had to do the dreaded full length pic again, aargh!

Not a moment too soon as Voy got my dose mixed up and sent me two pens! 😱 thankfully only got charged for one or I would have had a heart attack! They are collecting the extra one tomorrow, as shame really as they said although I haven’t opened the packaging they have to destroy it. I cheekily asked, if you have to destroy could I keep it free of charge and they said no. Oh well, thought it was worth the ask! πŸ˜‚

Hope you’re all having a good weekend. Next week I’d be happy if my hubby and kids can stay sickness free and would love to re boot our family meals including mine! Need to get back to basics, snacking on crackers way too much.

Just wanted to pop this on if anyone is interested in good/ comfy and flattering leggings:

https://www.next.co.uk/style/su152906/u65488

I love these ones from Next! They are amazing, so comfy and holds things in so nicely without being tight and restrictive as lots of β€˜shaper’ ones can be. They are ribbed and v stretchy, I find the wide waist band really holds supports my lower back too which has been helpful for back pain. My lower half is noticeably pear as think have mostly lost from the top half so far and I’ve found these the perfect blend of all day comfy and shape flattering/ nicely supportive. Pretty much live in them now, have a few pairs, got the black and navy. Size wise find is XL for best for everyday comfort and nice shape. L for tighter fit I’ve worn a couple of times to parties when I wanted extra suck in and shaping!

For the second week in a row, I've woken up in the middle of the night feeling uncontrollably sick, 36- 48hours after jabbing. I have spent the last 5 hours rushing to the loo just like last Sunday. Obviously it's better that this happens on the weekend, but I feel dreadful. I was just wondering if anyone else has this and has identified the triggers? I'm wondering if it was in part constipation as I've dropped 4 pounds over night, but surely that can't be the only reason i'm throwing up?

I had this when I stepped up to 7.5mg. I dropped down to 5mg but I also had to cut out anything fatty or high sulphur foods for up to 36 hours after my jab to prevent vomiting.

MontyJinks · 26/01/2025 14:13

Thanks for the chat about BMI, it's prompted me to have a play around with the calculator this morning.

My 'healthy range' is between 6.11-9.2 stone 😲

I've never been slim, so don't know how being in a healthy range will look for me. I chose an arbitrary target of 8st 8lbs just for a vague number to aim for. But in reality I will just see how it goes/how my body looks when I get nearer. I want to feel healthy and strong, rather than achieve a certain weight I think.

I mean, 6 stone something is just laughable, to me that's child-sized, not a mother of 4 sized 🀣

To be honest as a lifelong overweight (and obvs a very very short) person 🀣 I'm only just allowing myself to believe that thanks to this bloody miracle of a drug that I will ever be at a healthy weight, but for the first time, I do now believe it to be achievable.

Weigh in day today: 11st 3lbs, I'm very nearly halfway there πŸ’ͺ

MsRumpole · 26/01/2025 14:26

On BMI, the way I look at it is that if my blood sugar's good (it was just below diabetic in the test I did before starting MJ), and my knees and ankles don't hurt, and I can do most of the physical things that I want to do without a lot of discomfort, then that's an ok weight to be. I think for me that is probably somewhere around 16 stone.

Goldleafcat · 26/01/2025 14:29

Hmm, I had something similar last Sunday. Wasn’t sure if something I ate or the MJ (woke up in the night and had to be sick, felt out of sorts next morning too). Currently I jab on a Sunday. I had cooked a roast duck dinner and had gotten carried away with the crispy skin! So it could have been that.

Unfortunately I’m clearly not very wise because I’m cooking a leg of lamb this week! Will stick to the meat and veg!

Are you quite short Monty? 6st 11lbs sounds sooo incredibly light, even for the lowest end of healthy. I was a tall kid but think I'd have weighed that when I was about 9!

End of week 12
Or W13 D1
I have had an annoying week of pound on/off but am claiming it today as
SW 14st
CW 12st 2
GW low 10s

I have only lost 4 pounds in January but have had two weekends away so it is OK. I am going to increase my dose from 5mg to 7.5mg as I don't want to lose momentum.

NSV : Lovely friend said I looked like I had lost weight today (first person to notice!).
