November β€˜24 starters thread 6 - The one where it’s still January but we keep losing πŸ’ͺ🏻

Welcome to thread 6 friends old and new! Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we traverse into 2025 with new bodies and new mindsets πŸ₯°

I’m on W11D5 and on my second 5mg pen
F in her early 50’s
H 5’ 5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 12st 2.2lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look too saggy!)
Total loss so far 23lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in my system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes, tips for side effects and we love a beauty/fitness/style chat too.

Happy Friday!

Well I'm happy I've done the toilet everyday this week that'll make a difference to my weight loss on sunday

wish I had - I've just eaten a punnet of cherries as my dessert for today to try and shift things along....fingers crossed....

murraymcgill · 22/01/2025 17:20

@Mounjaropen my 10mg pen arrived today another 3 weeks left on 7.5 I'm not too sure whether u said about the cherries or the surgery haha I can't tell

random223 · 22/01/2025 17:47

I think MJ is definitely doing something to me in addition to affecting hunger.

Previously I could stick to Fast 800 for approx a month and lose maybe 0.5lbs per week if I was lucky.

Now I am averaging about 900-1000 calories but am losing 1-2lbs pee week.

Previously if I had a few days 'not on plan' I would put any weight lost back very quickly (eg 5lbs in a week).

On MJ, I have had weeks (eg at Christmas) where I have eaten more - and have not lost - but not put on any either.

I think there is quite good evidence that being obese itself causes weight gain.

Invisablepanic · 22/01/2025 18:02

@random223 similar here, I'd stuck to low calorie (religiously tracking) and intermittent fasting and not even lost 1lb. I genuinely couldn't understand. I'm losing slowly on mj but at least it's moving in the right direction.

Goldleafcat · 22/01/2025 18:31

@random223 @Invisablepanic I think you may be right there, certainly for a lot of people whose experiences I’ve read. I find when I start to lose weight, even though it can take ages to get moving, it’s easier to keep losing once I’ve lost some. Almost like my body gets into the rhythm of weight loss and knows that’s what it should be doing. It can take a while to get moving in the first place though and MJ helped me in my first week.
Part of this is likely psychology and I’m better at sticking to eating less when I see results, but there is definitely something physical happening too.

SerenePeer · 22/01/2025 19:30

@random223 and @invisablepanic Agree. I have beaten myself up so many times, gaslighting myself that I must have cheated on whatever low cal plan I was doing because the scales hadn't moved. Not even wobbled!

Then you get yourself into this negative loop of it doesn't work - why bother- I'm destined to be fat forever.

Mounjaro has changed that for me. The last 3 weeks have been rough with side effects, but I feel like I'm in control of that now. I'm loving how much fitter I feel, how happier I am and I actually believe for the first time in about 10 years that I can get down to a healthy weight.

Mounjaropen · 21/01/2025 04:08

Well done on the training! It’s an unfortunate fact that the body will choose to burn muscle over fat - hence why weight-bearing exercise and nutrition is so important- particularly as one gets older. I know I’ve been training hard so I worry less about the scales and concentrate on the inches. I’m curious about how smart scales β€˜know’ your body composition or predicted ages though?

I’m not 100% trusting smart scales, I mean, how high tech can a Β£10 piece of kit be? I do trust it in terms of tracking the trend though.

In the gym I get bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), a highly accurate test for body fat and muscle mass done through electrodes to determine how many calories your body need, it also gives you composition for each side and body part etc.

IHateMozzies · 22/01/2025 20:34

Lost half a lb this week which I’m happy with. I’ve had two meals out and one night stuffed my remaining Quality Street down my gob!

Hopefully next week will be better!

RayonSunrise · 22/01/2025 20:39

Well, after not having any side effects worth mentioning I finally had some eggy burps and diarrhoea last night. I can only think I ate a bit too much dinner, a bit quickly?

So today I dialled right back and just had a banana for breakfast, then some of my granola (homemade, high fibre, low sugar) mid-afternoon, and then a proper (but not too big) dinner. Seems okay so far, but is weird after not having any issues over Christmas when I was enjoying cheese, wine and treats albeit in small amounts.

Shotsy users - when you've been tracking your MJ levels, has it just fluctuated between weekly doses or does it also keep building over time? I'm wondering if dose 3 of my 2nd 5mg pen has tipped me into the side effects zone?

It’s builds week in week, even on the same dose. So this week on Saturday I have an estimated level of 7.86mg but the Saturday before it was 7.03mg - but the dose I injected on Friday was 5mg just as it has been for the last 9 weeks.

RayonSunrise · 22/01/2025 22:16

Thanks @IndigoHexagon. That does leave me wondering if I should go for a third 5mg rather than go up after my next jab.

I did an experiment when I was considering if to take the bonus dose in one go or split it. I estimated I had about 6.25mg in the pen. So I put it into Shotsy and one large dose and then as one 5mg on the Friday morning, and one 1.25mg on the Sunday night. The results were interesting.

same here - I feel like I need to research carefully post MJ management and the correct provider moving forward.

Ooh not heard of that. Be interesting to see what that test says versus smart scales.

I must confess I haven’t really noticed. I’m quite constipated this week which is bothering me now and I definitely notice that my breath is β€˜farty’ which is really not sexy πŸ˜‚

I’ve just checked my shotsy calendar and I’ve stayed quite consistent in terms of the amount of MJ in my system week on week. I’m about to start my 3rd 5mg pen next week so I’ll check that stat moving forward for sure.

If I’m reading that correctly, it seems to suggest that the more you take, the quicker it tapers off? That’s interesting.

Official weigh day and πŸ’‰ day today. I've lost 2lbs this week which I'm pleased with. I think I'm a much slower loser than most in our thread. Bonus dose day too so have to brave the syringe. I've bought shorter ones of 8mm so should all be fine.

I looked at my Shotsy app and it estimated I had 2.87mg in my system this time last week and 3.19mg today. So my levels are estimated to increase each week.

I also tried the me360 app yesterday but found that it scanned my waist as 7cm more than with a tape measure. Has anyone else found the same?

lovealongbath · 23/01/2025 08:03

Weigh day and I stayed the same, I’m a wee bit disappointed, but still focused,
onwards and upwards, I mean downwards 😜

Cantbesure · 23/01/2025 08:33

You've had a week of it @lovealongbath Hope everything is ok now. The scales will catch up I'm sure.

I think everyone measures their waist differently and I know I breathe in if someone measures me πŸ˜‚ mine was sadly spot on 😩

That was me last week. The Shotsy app says my average loss pw is 2.4lb which I’m happy with. It’s disappointing to get to the end of a week with seemingly no loss though. Keep going! πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

Was at the theatre last night and had the worst burps all the way through. I hope the stink didn't carry to the row in front of me.
This morning feeling a lot less windy.
