Hello! Is anyone starting or recently started with Shemed? I think there's a few of us on the boards. I started posting on a different thread when I was looking into MJ but thought it would be nice for us to have somewhere to share our experiences of the journey!

I'm Fatsia. My bmi is huge (22 stone with 11 stone to lose ideally. I'd be happy with less!). I put on a lot of weight after having kids and have tried all the usual things to lose it each time gaining more. We don't have a high income so it's taken some thinking before getting to this place and I'm really hopeful reading others stories of where this can lead. I. Really do want to experience the world in a slimmer body again.

I did the blood test today - stressed out this morning at the app was overloaded with so many starting on 2nd of Jan but the actual experience was great. I'm a bit needle phobic so it was great to have the little device to do the test.

Love to hear from any others interested in sharing experiences.

(Anyone wanting to debate SheMed as a company there are other threads where that is happening)

My scales arrive tomorrow, the exact same kind that I'd binned 2 months ago without thinking 🤦🏼‍♀️

What is everyone's plans for eating?

I'm not sure whether to switch to my usual diet planning (ie protein for lunch, prepped lunches (ordered not made cos I don't have time for that), and whatever OH is making for tea)

or, just seeing how it goes.

I'm a big planner and I feel overwhelmed already not knowing how I'm going to be with food.

So far I've bought some protein brownies for breakfast, to have with a cuppa (and to also help my adhd meds work)

It's lunch I'm struggling with. Do I order the pre-made lunches to take to work?

Lotusbug · 05/01/2025 21:49

@ploot Funnily enough I was just debating ordering some new scales! I was debating getting some snazzy ones that tell you body fat % etc.. but I’m not sure they’re worth the money 😅

I went to aldi this weekend and stocked up on some of the protein range- yoghurt and shakes as I’m terrible for not having enough protein. I’m vegetarian which probably doesn’t help! I’m thinking salads to take to work for lunch either home made or my local Asda actually does some really good ones. If I was rich I’d probably get a subway salad for lunch every day however I’m stretching my budget as it is to cover the meds 😂Although for tea tonight I made halloumi flatbreads which were reasonably low in calories so I might add flatbreads to my potential lunch options too 😋

I’ve also just ordered some electrolyte/vitamin sachets to help me keep hydrated- got a 30 day free trial and only had to pay postage so I’m going to see what they’re like as the normal prices don’t look too bad!

Oh don't, I forgot about subway and I work right next to one too!

I bought the renpho scales, which I've had before when I lost a couple of stone in 2021 - I really liked how they synced to their app so I've rebought them, and their body measuring tape too.

I've also bought electrolytes, just a small pack because I know how picky I can be with them. I'm expecting to not like them already 😂 where've you found a free trial?

Lotusbug · 05/01/2025 21:57

Same there’s one right around the corner from my office- soo good but soo expensive!

A measuring tape is a good idea! I need to get one of those. Are the rephno scales good? Ideally I don’t want to spend over £30 for scales but may have to make the investment!

yeah I’m a bit fussy with flavours so unsure what I’ll make of these but I thought I’ll give them a try. I saw a couple of people on Reddit say how good they were so thought why not (honestly I’m a marketers dream 😂). Worst case scenario I’ll just cancel the next order and I’m only £3.49 down for postage. This is the company: https://www.vidrate.com/products/free-trial

I’ll report back how they are!

I really like the Renpho scales, and comes with their free app - you stand on the scales and it records it automatically for you. I think their body measuring tape does the same too - I'm all about a shortcut.

I bought the scales for around £16 on Amazon the other day, the snow has delayed them though!

Ooo I'd love to hear how they are, I love drinking squash but hate anything that tastes like sweetener.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 05/01/2025 22:01

I've got the renpho scales. Just done a Tesco order! I find food overwhelming and would absolutely outsource it if we could afford it!

We want to reduce upfs but I'm not calorie counting but haven't managed to go completely upf free.

Ha! I've got those scales.

I was horrified when they claimed that I had the body of an 86 year old (I'm 68).

Mind you, that was a while ago, and they've modified their viewpoint somewhat. Apparently I'm now pushing 79.

Well, it's an improvement.....

Hey, as long as it's not as brutal as the Wii Fit used to be!!

Traumatised my 10 year old self to be told I'm both obese and 70 when I was neither 😂😂

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 05/01/2025 22:21

I think I have basic ones. They just send my weight to my phone - I don't think they do anything else clever!

I've just got a normal tape measure and keep meaning to do starting photos /measurements but I am building up to that!

Lotusbug · 05/01/2025 22:24

Right I’m off to buy some rephno scales so I can join the club (although if it tells me I have the body of 97 year old as opposed to 32 I may cry 😂😂)

I too had some rather traumatising childhood experiences with WiiFit…why did it always look so happy to tell you you were obese?! 😂

KeenGreen · 05/01/2025 22:27

My gym has a bio age and body composition scale thing that sends it all to your app.

I do it monthly to track body fat as ive seen muscle percentage go up even when scales don’t go down.

however it shows me as bio age 56, and one 38 😭😬

will be nice to get that down for sure!

the vitamin sachets looks good, I’m terrible at remembering vitamins going to make a proper effort to improve this though.

I already have to have a B12 injection every 3 months due to absorbency issues, I’m hoping this won’t affect SheMed none of their questions so far about it.

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden - I can't be trusted to not lose a normal measuring tape, nor can I measure myself without needing a third hand! The renpho one I've bought is like a retractable loop, so I'm hoping it's more accurate than I am (still miffed about the accidental 6inches I thought I'd lost in a week, 4 years ago)

@Lotusbug won't lie, I'd love to do those step classes on the Wii again, they were great 😂

oh gosh I dread to think what my bio age is- maybe I should stick with my salters scales and live in happy denial 😂

I’m on b12 injections too- I put it in the medical questionnaire before you do the blood test and no one has said anything so it must be fine ☺️

KeenGreen · 05/01/2025 22:53

@Lotusbug Thank you for saying about the B12 that’s great it will be OK.

I think I will feel much better about it all once approved (hopefully) it’s nervous waiting to know 😬🤞

CleverKhakiBear · 05/01/2025 23:50

Hiya so glad to finally find a thread for SheMed. I ordered my test kit on 29th hoping it arrives soon! I too have a very high bmi and gained my weight after my kids. Would love to try this out and get back to a healthier me xx

Shmallow · 06/01/2025 09:10

This is the week! I'd better get my blood test soon 😆

It's a good shout on vitamin sachets, dd wants some electrolyte ones for an upcoming flight. She's petrified of flying so I'm basically buying anything she asks for to smooth the journey!

I'm veggie and have historically been low in B12 and iron so so need to keep an eye on that.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/01/2025 09:35

Hope all those waiting for blood tests they arrive soon.

Was anyone testing this morning?

And anyone waiting for a pen hope it turns up today!

I feel excited for us all today :)

I've never bought electrolytes before. I vaguely remember diahralite as a kid. Is it the same thing?

Should I be getting them? Is it for if you have diahrea/vomit.

Do u get them in the supermarket and are they all kind of the same??

TLMoo · 06/01/2025 09:39

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I've sent mine off this morning! I had an email last night from SheMed saying do your blood test before the call - I assume to decrease the amount of time while it's busy! But then the lady on the call hadn't been told so was on hold for a while, also my DOB is down wrong apparently so she struggled with that haha but it's done and sent so now I wait - not very patiently!

Lotusbug · 06/01/2025 09:42

Morning everyone and welcome @CleverKhakiBear

hope blood tests went okay this morning for those doing them and that there’s some postal deliveries for people waiting for kit!

have your blood test results appeared on the app yet @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden ?

Re the electrolytes I think you take them daily and they help with hydration and also have vitamins in- I’m sure you’ll be able to get them from the supermarket ☺️

OneAzureMaker · 06/01/2025 10:05

According to RM my blood test was received on the 3rd Jan, I took it on the 2nd. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed that it is still registered as not having arrived yet on the app. I'm just hoping it's not been lost!

I've not had any emails and there's nothing on the app apart from 'you must return your blood test'.

Electrolytes probably aren't needed, but I find drinking enough water so hard anyway that I can forget to drink the whole day...

Although I remember diaoralite from being a kid, and there's no way I'm drinking that either 😂

I've just bought some of the zero sugar sports ones to see how they are, more hydration can't hurt in my case.

DandyCyanFinch · 06/01/2025 10:34

I got a 3am email saying my blood test results were in and to check the app - lo and behold, I still can’t get past the “scan your blood test qr code” screen on the app, plus I need to change my address, which it’s not letting me do, so I spent ages trying to talk to support this morning, and they say they’ll look into it, but I’m getting nervous they might send out mounjaro to the wrong place 😭

I’m super nervous and on edge about starting mounjaro anyway, even though I’ve been thinking about it for ages, so the app and address issues are sending me over the edge!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/01/2025 10:37

I still don't have my blood test results!
I think anyone worried it's worth ringing them to ask. I will tomorrow if it doesn't show then.

Oh, on electrolytes, you can make your own electrolyte drink at home super cheaply and easily if you don’t like the flavours you get in shops - if you do do commercial ones, watch out if you take spirolonactone for PCOS as a lot of them are high in potassium. I like the liquidIV ones flavour wise, but they are pricey.
