Like many of you, thoughts of maintenance are concerning me but it looks like there are a few options out there....dh said to me yesterday (in jest) that he'll make sure I stay on this injections for the rest of my life 😂 He doesn't care what size I am, but he has a much happier wife at the moment who is not avoiding situations or obsessing over food! I used to be so ashamed of my weight and so paranoid people were judging me that I used to make dh go to the chip shop or buy chocolate for me. I wouldn't do it myself because I was convinced someone would comment 😪

My DH commented on my happiness too. I feel weirdly less stressed by certain situations at the moment. I'm enjoying it though!

W10D1 - first dose from my second 5mg pen

S/W 16st 7
C/W 13st 10
G/W 11st ish

These injections really are miracle workers - yesterday I decided to allow myself a ‘treat’ meal, pasta based (which I haven’t had since starting) and cheesy, with dessert. Usually I would have had seconds of both, but I had a (much) smaller than normal portion of each and thoroughly enjoyed it. There’s even leftovers for the kids to have again today! Normally something like that would lead to binging for the rest of the day, but instead I was pleasantly full and didn’t need anything other than water and a cup of tea before bed.

Over the weekend, I’ve also heard of a few extended family members who are taking, or think of starting, WLI. I think it’s great that other people are being open about using them - I still haven’t told anyone other than a couple of very close friends and my husband, but I think if I’m asked outright I will be honest with people. After all, it’s nothing to be ashamed of, we still have to work really hard to lose and keep off the weight.

I’m half a stone away from being ‘just’ overweight. I’m hoping that happens this month but expecting to take until February. That seems crazy - when I started I never thought I’d be this close to that milestone in just over 2 months. I’m over 50% to goal, and have lost 17% of my starting weight, and can honestly say I’m proud of myself! Still enjoy wine too much occasionally but we can’t have everything can we?

well done! You are doing so well. 💪

I've also only lost about 300g this week - but I think the GI upset on my previous dose caused me to be pretty dehydrated and all that, so any loss this week is a positive.
It seems that this is the time when we all hit a plateau, so wishing us all patience!

Interestingly, after the GI issues, this week I've got no side effects, but also next to no suppression. Very odd! I'm on my way to the US for a business trip today, and as we all know, that's not the land of small portions and healthy meal options. Bugger! I'm going to have to work hard this time.

I'm not back till Friday. I normal inject on Thursdays, but decided not to take my pen and inject while away because it's a brand new pen and I don't think I can keep it cool in the hotel I'm staying in. (I know you can theoretically keep the pen out for 30 days, but I prefer not to.)

Safe travels!

Need some encouragement, I’ve had this respiratory infection all last week. The cough was intense and I did throw up last week as the cough was bad and was just after my jab. Gradually it eased and by Saturday I felt ok, bit of a cough. Last night the cough and catarrh got worse, and I had jabbed last night. I was so sick all night, fever, nausea.

can’t tell whether the constant catarrh is giving my nausea, or my jab, or both, but I feel like death. Managed to prop myself up on the sofa. Feel a bit better having taken some paracetamol.

husband just trotted off though leaving me to walk the dog, felt so ill!

no point other than feeling sorry for myself, it has been years since I was this ill 😭

DH had this before Xmas - he still hasn't shaken it off completely. Dogs are lovely additions to the family (who all lobby for one) until they inevitably become 'Mum's Dog' and therefore Mum's problem😞

Take it easy and get someone else to walk the pooch - you need to be careful you don't develop full-on Pneumonia. Plenty of fluids, rest and alternative ibuprofen and paracetamol.

If there was a care emoji reaction , I would have pressed it.

Isnt it awful how judgemental people make you feel.

However, be loud and proud, you’ve got this 💪

Thanks @lovealongbath ❤️

Anyone else on 7.5?

Yes I am....although I only gave myself 5 today because I cannot have the d&v of the previous 2 weeks this week!

DarkForces · 13/01/2025 12:34

Dh id also benefitting from the healthy recipes! We're trialling a healthy meal service for a few days a week so ingredients and recipe cards delivered but you cook from scratch. It's expensive but nice to get out a rut. I've always avoided junk food but enjoyed eating out and nice treats. I've had fun putting the weight on! Now paying for it 😥

I went up to 7.5 on Saturday morning. So far, so good.

SerenePeer · 13/01/2025 13:08

@DarkForces we're doing the same. It definitely helping lighten the mental load and we've enjoyed all the meals so far. Love how it takes the guesswork out of meal planning and gives us something a bit different.

I'm curious about how much is just the excitement about actually losing weight and at a better rate than doing it alone, and how much is directly caused by the jab itself and what it's doing hormonally. I've been SO much happier since starting MJ - much more excited and optimistic about the months ahead.
It's definitely liberating not going to bed every night cross and disappointed in myself for having fucked up my eating yet again and full of misplaced optimism that tomorrow would be different.

How bad was the D&V? Did it go on for long? I'm petrified that what I think was a terrible stomach bug was actually just really bad side effects. If it was, I'd have to come off MJ, I can't remember ever feeling that ill.

It may well be the MJ I’m sorry to say. I had the worst diarrhoea of my life when I titrated up to 5mg. It lasted 2 days or so I think. Maybe 3? I thought it was a bug but the next week was the same. I’ve had diarrhoea and some vomiting off and on since then, but not so bad as the first time and some weeks not at all. It usually only lasts a day or two. It usually starts 48-72 hours after injection x

Demjay · 13/01/2025 11:23

Anyone else on 7.5?

I am. Did my second jab yesterday. After the first 7.5mg I felt quite yucky the day after, mild nausea most of the day which felt like a hangover. I was a few days late taking my second dose so not sure it that has had an impact but I feel much better this time (so far, touch wood, etc.). It could be the gap has resulted in less of a build up in my system though (so may be less effective this week).

evilharpy · 13/01/2025 13:37

Holy shit @Demjay (no pun intended). I had food poisoning years ago and it was nowhere near as bad as this. I spent one night on the bathroom floor but two days overall unable to function, I was off work (which I never am) and the stomach cramps were unbearable.

I'm in week 9, currently still on 5mg, and had no side effects at all apart from heartburn and a few sulphur burps until this started last week out of the blue. I inject on a Sunday evening and this started on a Wednesday evening so 72 hours would be about right. But it would have been my fourth week on 5mg so not a reaction to a sudden increase.

If this week is the same I'll have to stop, there's no way I could live like that. I'd take the food noise over crippling diarrhoea and pain, no contest.

Hope it's better for you now!

Goldleafcat · 13/01/2025 13:38

Any recommendations for an app to track my protein? I’m less concerned about tracking calories (scarred by tracking everything on weight watchers and slimming world) but want to make an effort to up my protein intake and track it.

Ughhh poor you.
my experience was similar 😬 - I also had horrific cramps.
It’s a good sign that you haven’t had any bad side effects previously though . It could have been the week-on-week build up or possibly something you ate that interacted badly with the MJ? (I’ve found that eating cheese in the few days after injection is a bad bad idea….)
OR it could equally have been a nasty bug- fingers crossed for the last one! ☝️

I’ve been managing much better , except for this week which is my first 7.5 injection. I injected Friday morning and this morning am in bed with diarrhoea, vomiting and cramps. 🤦🏼‍♀️😭. Hoping it passes quick.

LegoDaft · 13/01/2025 13:59

I did my first 7.5mg injection on Friday morning and have felt terrible since Saturday. The worst diarrhoea and cramps I have ever experienced! I also had a couple of days of diarrhoea after my bonus dose last week but this has been something else! Should I go back down to 5mg?

Update - I’ve discovered nutracheck, seems great!

I have used MyFitnessPal in the past but didn’t find it very intuitive.

Based on BHF guidance I need 0.75g per kg of weight per day - so 71g of protein?!

(10 eggs for breakfast, whole salmon for lunch, several t bone steaks for dinner 😂)

Oh no sorry to hear this. I had nausea after mine but seems a lot better on week 2. Hope you feel better soon. Keep drinking lots of water if possible.

Arglefraster · 13/01/2025 14:39

Nutracheck is great for tracking protein- I toggle between protein & fibre all the time.

I've had an injection site reaction this week & it's been really annoying!! Antihistamine & hydrocortisone but still annoying. My skin is always where things fall apart so I'm keen to be proactive about my next jag.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I read that a longer needle might help so going to use one of my syringes for the next jag & if better will order some longer pen needles.🤞

I read somewhere that taking the pen out of the fridge for a while before you inject (to allow it to come to room temperature) can help?

Arglefraster · 13/01/2025 15:22

Thanks @Goldleafcat I actually store out of the fridge once I'm using the pen (house is freezing anyway 😂) so that isn't a factor for me.

Watched the panorama prog on weight loss. Tidal wave of ill health linked to obesity. Mentions concerns with how some people abuse them through on line, lean muscle loss, people with psychological problems, weight re-gain.

chances of getting drugs from NHS very low as many areas don’t have specialist tier 3 weight management services. Government cut money going into weight loss services so some may reduce access. No mention of diabetes prescription

The current model is leading to a widening health care divide as there tends to be more obesity in areas of social deprivation. Drug is unaffordable privately for some.

usual stuff about eating healthier, cut UPF/carbs/sugar/junk food, exercise more

Doctor giving examples of diabetes T2 remission through diet and exercise - no mention of WLI

need more control on drug issuing /support - implication that safe access is only via NHS? Early days for WLI blah blah blah.
