I’ve been thinking about the earlier research posted about how most people regain but of those that don’t, the majority have been doing a lot of exercise. It could be as simple as the exercise counterbalancing the need to eat more calories. It’ll surely be easier to maintain our weight if we’re doing a 500 cal burn every day as it’ll give a lot more flexibility in calorie allowance? Just thinking out loud really.

If I need these meds for life - I’ll be bankrupt!

I have regained the 1.5lbs I lost due to stomach bug so have lost a grand total of big fat zero this week. I am a bit constipated though. What works best for constiption?

Thanks @Mounjaropen will be watching that.

My go remedies are my special pineapple/fresh ginger/lime dish. Exercise, acupuncture pressure points alleged to alleviate constipation. Good luck, it’s the worst isn’t it?

I’ve lost 0.6lbs this week 😭

I agree. I think if you’ve given your whole lifestyle a makeover and intend to stick to it, you are less likely to gain significant amounts of weight. In any survey there will be the odd one or two who will take the jabs and continue a sedentary lifestyle packed with UPF foods. I’m wondering if there is merit in approaching a hypnotist when I’m at my goal weight and weaning off the drugs to alter my food noise mindset. There are people who’ve been hypnotised into thinking they’ve had a gastric band fitted. Her be the same principle?

I had a weird experience yesterday - food tasted strange. Lots of aftertaste following foods I’d normally eat. No covid symptoms, so it’s not that. Anyone else had that?

@PandasMum I've lost weight before and been fit and active and then something happens (new relationship, Covid lockdowns) and it all piled on again. It's not easy to maintain weight loss. As evidenced by the booming diet and fitness industry. What worried me most about coming off MJ is that I won't have trained my brain or whatever in the same way as the MJ is doing some of the work for me.

Although I'm currently despairing as even on the increased dose of 5mg my weight loss is in a definite plateau. I'm going back to running this week with the improved weather. So hoping that will help.

I've spent ages focusing on maintenance planning when I don't seem to be losing - doh!!

KentishMama · 13/01/2025 09:01

I've also only lost about 300g this week - but I think the GI upset on my previous dose caused me to be pretty dehydrated and all that, so any loss this week is a positive.
It seems that this is the time when we all hit a plateau, so wishing us all patience!

Interestingly, after the GI issues, this week I've got no side effects, but also next to no suppression. Very odd! I'm on my way to the US for a business trip today, and as we all know, that's not the land of small portions and healthy meal options. Bugger! I'm going to have to work hard this time.

I'm not back till Friday. I normal inject on Thursdays, but decided not to take my pen and inject while away because it's a brand new pen and I don't think I can keep it cool in the hotel I'm staying in. (I know you can theoretically keep the pen out for 30 days, but I prefer not to.)

Pumpkinforever · 13/01/2025 09:12

Bin day today. That is significant as it was DH birthday as the weekend and we agreed to throw away the remains of the cake from yesterday’s celebration. There’s absolutely no way pre-MJ that would have happened! Previously we would have pigged out on cake for the next few days but not this year.

As I said previously my taking MJ benefits two people 😂

WellyBootsandPuddleSuits · 13/01/2025 09:14

W10D1 - first dose from my second 5mg pen

S/W 16st 7
C/W 13st 10
G/W 11st ish

These injections really are miracle workers - yesterday I decided to allow myself a ‘treat’ meal, pasta based (which I haven’t had since starting) and cheesy, with dessert. Usually I would have had seconds of both, but I had a (much) smaller than normal portion of each and thoroughly enjoyed it. There’s even leftovers for the kids to have again today! Normally something like that would lead to binging for the rest of the day, but instead I was pleasantly full and didn’t need anything other than water and a cup of tea before bed.

Over the weekend, I’ve also heard of a few extended family members who are taking, or think of starting, WLI. I think it’s great that other people are being open about using them - I still haven’t told anyone other than a couple of very close friends and my husband, but I think if I’m asked outright I will be honest with people. After all, it’s nothing to be ashamed of, we still have to work really hard to lose and keep off the weight.

I’m half a stone away from being ‘just’ overweight. I’m hoping that happens this month but expecting to take until February. That seems crazy - when I started I never thought I’d be this close to that milestone in just over 2 months. I’m over 50% to goal, and have lost 17% of my starting weight, and can honestly say I’m proud of myself! Still enjoy wine too much occasionally but we can’t have everything can we?

Goldleafcat · 13/01/2025 09:18

Mounjaropen · 13/01/2025 08:05

Morning all, Panorama tonight is about WLI - specifically focusing at one (so far unnamed) hospital issuing Ozempic (presumably on theNHS). Might be worth a watch to see the criteria being used?

Thanks for the heads up. Just seen this article about it on the bbc app which may also be useful:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyn92j4nn2o

Ray, a 62-year-old man with closely cropped hair, smiling slightly as he looks towards the camera during an interview at his home.

‘I feel blessed to get Wegovy weight-loss jab’ - but can the NHS afford it for all?

We meet some of the first NHS patients, as expert says funding everyone eligible would "bankrupt" the service.

DarkForces · 13/01/2025 09:22

I hope there'll be a cheaper pill based alternative for long term maintenance, but expecting to have to fund it myself as I don't have any qualifying conditions so will never get it on NHS

Pumpkinforever · 13/01/2025 09:31

In BBC article it says ‘it costs the NHS about £3,000 a year to give a patient either Mounjaro or Wegovy’. I guess that includes the support given etc. No wander they said a 12 year roll-out especially if they are estimating 3.4 million are eligible.

I guess they are waiting for the cheaper tablets to come on stream and to see how maintenance programs develop as well. People can be on statins for life so MJ tablets will just be like those in the future.

That’s because we are ahead of the curve 😂

Realistically I will be self funding for life I guess. By self funding now we will never meet the NHS criteria as our BMI will be too low

jay55 · 13/01/2025 09:56

Down less than half a kilo, to be expected I ate like I was starved all weekend. But I am back below 100kg so that's good.
Jabbed 5 this morning hope it gets me back some control.
Changed my mind about jabbing Friday as I knew I had a stressful weekend ahead and didn't want extra side effects on top.

Hope you're all doing well and have lovely losses this week.

Goldleafcat · 13/01/2025 09:56

Yeah, I have mixed feelings about this. Frustrating because it’s incredibly costly. But equally if we get ourselves to a lower BMI sooner it’ll improve our lives so much in the mean time, both physically and psychologically. It’ll help stave off health conditions sooner. And it’s unknown how long it’ll be until a wider roll out. I had gestational diabetes and my dad developed type II diabetes so it’s on my radar.

But. Expensive.

Gosh £3000 a year is nothing compared to what it costs to treat obesity-related conditions, so hopefully they see the benefit and open it up to more people.

SerenePeer · 13/01/2025 10:15

Like many of you, thoughts of maintenance are concerning me but it looks like there are a few options out there....dh said to me yesterday (in jest) that he'll make sure I stay on this injections for the rest of my life 😂 He doesn't care what size I am, but he has a much happier wife at the moment who is not avoiding situations or obsessing over food! I used to be so ashamed of my weight and so paranoid people were judging me that I used to make dh go to the chip shop or buy chocolate for me. I wouldn't do it myself because I was convinced someone would comment 😪

Caplin · 13/01/2025 10:17

Need some encouragement, I’ve had this respiratory infection all last week. The cough was intense and I did throw up last week as the cough was bad and was just after my jab. Gradually it eased and by Saturday I felt ok, bit of a cough. Last night the cough and catarrh got worse, and I had jabbed last night. I was so sick all night, fever, nausea.

can’t tell whether the constant catarrh is giving my nausea, or my jab, or both, but I feel like death. Managed to prop myself up on the sofa. Feel a bit better having taken some paracetamol.

husband just trotted off though leaving me to walk the dog, felt so ill!

no point other than feeling sorry for myself, it has been years since I was this ill 😭

Oh no! I had the dreaded lurgy over Christmas and could barely walk to the end of the street without coughing so much i peed myself 😳 i found taking ibuprofen and paracetamol along with hot honey & lemon helped. Hope you feel better soon! Hate the is it phlegm, is it the jab,is it norovirus quandry

jay55 · 13/01/2025 11:02

@Caplin hope you feel better soon. These current bugs are zapping the life out of everyone. I've been feeling mostly better but am still crashing out by 8:30 most nights.
Hope it clears off, and takes the side effects with it.

@Goldleafcat got through the weekend okay thanks.

Oh poor you. I titrated up to 7.5 on Friday and I’m currently in bed with D&V 😭. I was hoping the side effects wouldn’t be too bad as it’s a smaller jump than previous but no such luck.

It could well be the jabs but hopefully it’s just a passing bug for you xx

Isnt it awful how judgemental people make you feel.

A lb off is still a lb off! I'd take that for the win. DH away tonight and DD off to meet friends so I think I'll be cooking something I fancy for a change - protein and a salad.

Lovely recipe by Rukmini Iyer on Saturday kitchen this week (I love her recipes) which might be of use to Salmon lovers!

I hope you feel better soon, my dad was hospitalised last week with a “new” respiratory virus and his oxygen levels were very low.
If it doesn’t shift, I would be phoning GP for antibiotics.

I've got a feeling that this may go the way of HRT and actually become more accessible to all on the NHS.

What the NHS needs to start doing is acting like all of us here and to keep shopping about for the cheapest supplier. Whoever gets the deal to supply the largest health organisation in the country is onto a winner. It irritates me that there is no commercial nouse in the buying departments within government departments - no one thinking like it is their personal cash and striking the best deals.

With respect to the coaching element, they could just get a bot in an app to do the reminders, provide healthy tips within an app - the majority just need reminding not constant therapy. The issue is twofold within the nation - an inability of whole generations able to cook properly, so deliveroo etc is seen as the only option and portion control. If the NHS app combined the info like shotsy/methreesixty/blood pressure/pulse/symptoms it would be a game-changer for the nation.
