I think this is the main difference moving forward. As someone in their 50’s your focus does tend to shift towards how you might fare as an elderly person. And your health in General. Having watched both of my parents become bedbound through inactivity, I am determined to remain a sprightly old bird!

i am totally with you! It is crazy how things start to feel like they are really rapidly deteriorating. I want to reverse the last 5 years and then build my strength. The 50s feel absolutely like the use it or lose it time of life!!!

Lol. I emailed Healf before purchase to blatantly ask for a discount code to equal the Black Friday deals in the states, which they did do. They were quite easy to deal with and setting up the app was a doddle - recognised my subscription instantly etc.

Oh sweet lord, I just lost an hour of my life on Healf ! What a website, thanking the lord I've hidden away my Credit Card 😄I am tempted with Pvolve, i'm with you on the Peleton Yoga classes they do go a little fast.

@phyllidafosset and @Mounjaropen , what would your wisdom be to someone currently in their mid 40s for a better 50s? Beyond stopping being obese obvs!

If I had my time again, I’d have started HRT much earlier - probably 2-3years earlier (would’ve been mid 40’s for me). I think women wait until their periods stop or the sweats settle in rather than consider the other most subtle symptoms - joint pain, fatigue, feelings of despair (so weird), mood swings, insomnia etc. I realise not everyone can take it, but there are other benefits I’d also never considered- reduced likelihood of osteoporosis, possible reduction of dementia etc. Having watched both my own mother and MIL both end up with both of these health issues ( neither took HRT because of the scares surrounding cancer risk in the 80’s/90’s) it does make you look at preventative action.

Wear SPF every day. And take time to look after your skin - you’ll be obsessed with how many wrinkle you have in your 50’s 😂

I’d also have mixed up exercise activity- not just the gym. Walking has massive benefits for example - and is accessible. I think I’d also have weighed myself more and acknowledged I was gaining weight rather than just buying the same style clothes in a bigger size.

Definitely drink less alcohol and drink more water!

Weigh in today. I’ve lost about 10lb after 8 doses. Did 5 weeks on 2.5, now 3 on 5mg. Can’t say I notice much suppression anymore at the moment. I have another 5mg pen lined up because I’ve got some injection site side effects every time, but wish I’d ordered a 7.5. slow and steady is ok with me though, as only have another 10lb then that’s something I’d be happy with, a bit more would be great

I think it’s all relative really. I’ve listened to 20lbs but have a lot more to go. You’ve had some great losses, keep going! 💪

I’m currently in ‘ignorance is bliss’ phase as I haven’t been able to weigh myself since last Sunday. Have had a mixed week of food - some days a nice salad and have lots of soup, however I’ve also indulged in stuff like hospital canteen chips and a number of breakfast bits from Costa as the week has gone on! Still in hospital tonight but hoping we can go home tomorrow.

Looking forward to my own bed and hopefully slightly better sleep (was a tad sleep deprived yesterday and accidentally threw a pair of earrings in the bin! Realised about 10 mins later then had fun digging through the teabags and other crap in the bin in the shared kitchen area).

I think given your circumstances you can go easy on yourself. Hope the little one is on the mend 💐

I am so bored with food this week. Everything I eat tastes as boring as heck. There is nothing I want. I think I'm going to spend next week on slimfast it will be less tedious.
This is a person who chomps continually when not on MJ.

You’re not alone here, I don’t fancy any particular foods either. And I love food. Could you try and prep some nutritious food in advance? Prep fruit and veggies? Batch cook stuff for the freezer and use that instead? Slimfast is ultra processed food and although it’ll make you feel artificially full (and easy to use) it isn’t going to assist with a change in long term eating patterns which I think is going to be the key to keeping the weight off long term.

What a week! I had a chocolate from the celebrations tin yesterday. Pretty sure I won't have lost anything this week when I weigh on Sunday (not down to the chocolate!). Feel so bloated today, don't think I've over eaten but I have noticed that I'm much more hungry this week. Have even had tummy rumbling noises. The fancy for sweet stuff if starting to come back. Am on my second 5mg pen and have a couple of doses left. Wondering if I need to move to 7.5mg soon. Really didn't want the extra expense just yet. I'll report back with weekly weigh in on Sunday but I'm not hopeful for a loss this week.

I think the tummy rumbling would indicate for me that I needed to move up if I was drinking enough water and eating enough protein? How is your water and protein intake?

Weigh in day here too! I lost 3lbs, having been on here last week complaining around christmas weight gain and feeling down a 2 weeks later. It's all gone plus some.

I am down down 13.4lbs since the start of November. I stated at 16 stone exactly, so next weigh in, I am thrilled my weight will start with a 14! Something i haven't seen in a very long time, i would guess around 6 years.

I spent today plotting my weekly weigh in / injections on shotsy and noticed a pattern. At the end of week 3 I gained when taking both 2.5mg & 5mg. I then loose a little by end of week 4 and then a big drop when I take a stronger dose.

My thoughts behind this I have more food noise as the body becomes acclimatised to the MJ. So I am going to try and really be mindful of this in week 3 of 7.5mg to see if I can break the cycle. Sadly I think it confirms what i always thought that I am someone who needs to keep moving up.

Seeing this has strangely really helped me feel more motivated.

3lbs off is fantastic! I love my Shotsy graphs too but I think I need to consider what actions lose the most weight for me - the dose, diet or activity levels. I need to decide to stick or twist for the next pen.

ive had to give DH half of my tea as I couldn’t eat any more. I don’t think this has ever happened before in my life.

I have this too. My DH needs to lose weight too though… he’s like a human version of a Labrador - never full even if he’s just been fed and always looking for food 😂

Not great at all! Definitely not drinking enough this week. Maybe 3 cups of tea a day and a glass of water at night? I'm always thirsty but have to balance this with needing the loo all the time!

random223 · 11/01/2025 06:47

Has anybody noticed a slightly different pattern to their weight loss on MJ? I have always lost weight on my legs first, then bust and tummy last (typical apple) but I seem to be dropping weight on my bust and back first. Obviously happy to lose from anywhere but it is confusing me with clothes sizes!

I seem to have lost weight from my tummy and bum - particularly noticed it as my knickers were suddenly all too big! And I was wearing the same size / same pairs when I was a stone lighter than I am now!

I know some people worry about losing their bums but mine was definitely nothing special (large, flat, looked crap in jeans rather than a pert, ‘booty’ type affair!)

lovealongbath · 11/01/2025 07:24

I have most definitely lost from my bust. My 🍈 🍈 are now 🍒

lovealongbath · 11/01/2025 07:52

I have mentioned before that my naturally curly hair has lost its curl and iits gone quite lifeless and straight.

My hair length would be in between shoulders and bra strap.

Well yesterday, I got a massive chop and now have a sassy wee inverted bob which I am just loving.
However, on my daily weigh in, evidently, hair doesn’t weigh much as I have put on a couple of ounces 🤣

DarkForces · 11/01/2025 08:05

No weight gained or lost the last few days. I'm also getting a rash at the injection site a few days after injecting which is red and itchy 😢. Feeling a bit down today but at least I've balanced out the meal I had on Wednesday

I’d try upping your water intake and adding more protein to your diet then make a decision.

I have lost weight where I needed to, but this is the first time I’ve lost weight whilst exercising consistently so I’m putting it down to that. I did buy some size 12 no vpl knickers that I wear under exercise leggings as the 14’s had become flappy around my arse 👏 which is now smaller - but needed to be. In the words of Hugh Grant’s chief of staff in Love Actually ‘I think there’s a sizeable arse there, sir’

It's a pain. I already take an antihistamine but wondering if I'm proactive about putting cream on the site before I react it'll help. Will try next week.

Im also reminding myself I've lost 0.8lb over the week and so the lack of loss over the second half is due to a tasting menu out with wine so I couldn't select the lightest option like I usually would. At least I've balanced it out rather than just carrying on regardless.

Onwards and upwards (well downwards).

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 11/01/2025 10:02

God my legs are so sore after first day of exercise! DOMS is killing me. I did video 2 yesterday (Caroline Girvan Iron Series on YouTube) which is upper body, and I never seem to get quite the same level of DOMS there as I do with legs/glutes.

W9D1
SW 16st 4lbs
CW 14st 9lbs
GW 10st (ish)

Just over a pound off this week. I am back at work and as a result have walked and moved a lot more than during the Xmas period, and haven't overeaten, so I'm telling myself a small loss is still a loss and not to compare my losses with anyone else. What's helped with that is that I've finally got the Shotsy app, and the visual of a downwards trending graph and analysis of my average weekly weight loss has given some perspective. I weigh on jab day, so today was my first 7.5mg.

Morning all just going to log stats as haven’t in a good while. Tbh I was feeling mildly despondent after Xmas that my weight loss seemed to be much slower. I’ve been pondering this. But the scales are still shifting a bit which of course still sparks some joy.

Week 10 (continuing on 5mg)
SW 13stone 3
CW 11stone 4
GW DK still

On reflection I feel the first big drop of weight when I started was all my wobbly fat round bum and mid section. Now I’m back in size 12 clothing tbh there’s less to fall away so it feels more of a slog to get the scales shifting still. I would like to get into the middle somewhere of the healthy BMI range so that’s still a good way off. I’ve been pondering what others said on this thread about weight bearing exercises. Seems very valid and vital -unfortunately I’m not doing any of that as my gym membership lapsed and I’ve been fully into my steps ranging between 6 to 10 000 on a good day. Any ideas how I can do weight bearing exercises at home without the gym? Is the lower or upper body more crucial or all of it? I have zero knowledge of this. Another shift is the rings from my younger years that I brought back out of the jewellery box before Xmas and was thrilled they fitted once again. Update 2 is they are now also too loose. I didn’t even think my hands were the chubby bit when I started MJ back in oct.
Anyway sympathies with all fellow thread members experiencing slower weight loss at this point. But I actually think it’s possibly a bit inevitable after the initial jump. And probably tbh it is a bit healthier to do this mores slowly. Slow and steady and all that eh?

@random223 yes! Usually I lose from my legs first and my tummy last but I can't believe how much I've lost from my tummy on mj! Watching the video earlier in the thread, i think this is because mj really helps get rid of the dangerous, abdominal fat and the fat surrounding your organs which absolutely delights me. My tummy had always been my biggest problem area!
