well at that meeting, one of my older colleagues, in his 60s, who is lacking in sensitivity generally but a nice guy, and who was late, walked in , took one look at me and boomed you look good, have you lost weight, I said yes, he said was it on purpose, or,…? I said yes, it had to come off, he asked how, I said gym and diet, and he said can you write a book on how to do it, then lots of positive comments.

It wasn’t something I expected, that they’d think something was maybe wrong with me. So got more of this to come i expect. Maybe should have anticipated it to be honest. It just didn’t occur to me, people would be worried.

That's a good reaction to a positive response from you 👍👍

Interesting about the other responses. In a way it is positive too...sudden weight loss is a marker for a lot of illnesses...so it is kind if good that people have an awareness of that...

🤞 more good responses!

AnneinEdinburgh · 12/02/2025 17:31

One of my colleagues (male) stopped me at work and said that he had noticed I had lost weight and he hoped it was for a nice reason. He was totally not creepy about it and I was pleased to be able to confirm that it was intentional and positive and I was feeling great about it.

Losingthetimber · 12/02/2025 18:16

@HappyNewt , yes glad it’s out there now, just getting ready for dinner and meeting even more tonight sigh, just called home and my husband said well it is a short period of time and a lot of weight, so it’s understandable. Which is probably fair,

@AnneinEdinburgh , that was nice of him, it feels good when it’s recognised as a positive, 😍

Had my maintenance consultation with Oushk. I knew it wouldn’t be anything to worry about but was irrationally nervous. Hira was lovely, went through the plan options. I like they are very flexible and seem amenable to any approach as long as in prescribing rules.
I think when i actually reach goal and start maintenance I will go on the Conti plan where you maintain on the same dose and increase your calories so as not to lose more weight. If suppression too strong I can always reduce dose.

I also think I will be on some form of MJ for life based on trial data and anecdotal stories from Reddit etc of people who have tried unsuccessfully to come off despite their best intentions.

I have read obesity is a disease and just cos you lose the weight doesn’t get rid of the disease. My eventual aim would be to do a month on/off to keep the weight off and reduce the cost. Think the biggest dose they will let you do that on is 5mg.

I will continue to weight train, 3/4 mile walks most days with the dog and carry on eating at least 120g protein to try and avoid muscle loss.

lapuf · 13/02/2025 07:36

@Bluenose1966 that sounds like a really pragmatic approach. I'm going to go it alone as mine was quite recent weight gain rather than long term obesity but already dreading the return of my endometriosis periods which have been eased so much by taking this drug Sad I can't justify the cost going forwards (I have an expensive horse habit!) but am so grateful for the kick start it's given me! I'm 10.5lbs from my reset goal (3.5 from original)

Losingthetimber · 13/02/2025 07:38

Well I’m right off booze, ordered two glasses of wine last night, in two different venues, one in a large as force of habit, and couldn’t drink either, like I really didn’t want it, had to make excuses it wasn’t very nice both time.

Seems the higher up the doses the stronger my aversion to alcohol gets, I was able to drink fine a couple of months ago, but last night I just couldn’t stomach it. At all.

and lots of lovely compliments, all one on one, which was sweet, if a bit self conscious making,

Anyone else absolutely floored going up from 5mg to 7.5mg? I've done 1 x 2.5, 3 x 5mg, and went up to 7.5mg last week. I inject on a Sunday night, and couldn't really eat till last Saturday. This week, I feel sick, can't eat, have gone from being manageably constipated to pooing every day since last Thursday, and had diorreha last night. My stomach is killing me. I wish I could undo Sunday's jag! Any advice?

Yes, me! I've been fine until now but 7.5 has floored me too. Stomach pain, diarrhoea and nausea, which culminated in a horrendous vomiting episode yesterday in the loos at work - not ideal. I felt rough last week too, but wasn't sick. Because I'm using Nutricheck I looked back for common things I'd eaten, and in both occasions it was nuts - I'm wondering if they were too fatty? Going to inject less next week (and avoid nuts!) and hope that I'm over the worst.....

KnewYearKnewMe · 13/02/2025 08:01

@Bluenose1966

That's really interesting, and great that they are so supportive.

I also feel I'll be on MJ or equivalent for a very long time. It's addressing a medical issue I (must) have had my whole life.

I'm sure as the medication evolves, there will be some form of maintenance version - maybe even a pill!

I'm due to go up. But I think I will stick at 5 for a while. I'm still losing slowing on it and the side effects are manageable. Plus it's cheaper!!

I had a NSV - had to get a smaller bra!!

Fizzleawayyy1 · 13/02/2025 09:57

@Losingthetimber glad you are getting loads of lovely comments.

@Bluenose1966 How lovely to be able to make a call in regards to maintenance! I have also seen a lot of posts on reddit in regards to putting weight back on, very concerning.

@lapuf Being obese has been a relatively new thing for me too... I gained all the weight in 2022 and just struggled to get it back off.

However I'm planning on taking a small dose every week to 10 days (2.5-5mg) for a year after I hit my goal to take the edge off any food noise.
Lucky I don't have an expensive horse to maintain ha ha, I justify the costs as the amount of junk/takeaways I was buying compared to now more then covers it I think, plus I can afford it long term luckily.

A little NSV for me, my wedding dress fits again! when I got married I weighed 13 stone 11lbs (in 2023 after I gained weight, lost a bit of weigh for the wedding but not as much as I should have) and as of today I'm 13st 4lbs! I tried my dress on yesterday just to look at and well why not!

I really did love my dress so I took a picture to show you lovely people because .... why not!

I used to hang around the 11stone mark so was disappointed I didn't lose more for my wedding. My husband wants to renew our vows one day and I WILL be less that time around!

Oh wow, you look like an actual fairytale princess! Shock

rockingbird · 13/02/2025 10:48

Oh wow @Fizzleawayyy1 what a beautiful dress! Must have felt so nice to fit comfortably in that.!!

7.5mg has had the same effect on me, wine is not something I can stomach this week and the suppression is most definitely kicking my butt. 🫣

Losingthetimber · 13/02/2025 10:59

@Fizzleawayyy1 , you look lovely in that, honestly you don’t look remotely over weight, you look slim, fit and healthy.

Bluenose1966 · 13/02/2025 11:10

Oh you look stunning in that gorgeous wedding dress @Fizzleaawayy . That really is a fairytale dress.
I love trying on my old clothes that now fit me, though it’s amazing how quickly they then become too big.
I have been buying loads off Vinted and justifying it to myself as a fraction of the normal cost.

@lapuf A couple of the health podcasts I have listened to said that people who have only been obese for a short time are those most likely to be able to keep the weight off without the medication.
I have been on/off dieting for 40 years so although would love to be able to come off don’t think it will be possible. When I think of the diets I have been on over the years starting with WW then Slimming World, Atkins, Dukan, South Beach, Keto, Intermittent Fasting and probably loads more that I can’t remember. Mostly successful weight loss until perimenopause hit, then without fail regained all the weight and more within a year. I really feel MJ is my last chance saloon.

AnneinEdinburgh · 13/02/2025 12:06

@Fizzleawayyy1 you look amazing!

Fizzleawayyy1 · 13/02/2025 12:47

Thanks everyone. 😊

I was just looking at my accounts and looking at all the savings I'm making by not constantly calling in the shops for junk food or even buying takeaways. A takeaway is roughly £40 for us now so it adds up. Our food shop is at least £15 lower every week too as I'm buying less crap/extras on it.

It opens your eyes to how much money I was realllly wasting at the corner shop getting treats for myself and the kids multiple times a week.

RunSlowTalkFast · 13/02/2025 15:17

Finally joined the ranks of the 'just' overweight! 17 weeks and twelve pounds later!

I am the tortoise not the hare 😄

PolaDeVeboise · 13/02/2025 15:19

@Pennyplant19 I had a horrific vomiting episode too, on Tuesday night. Also got a pain in the centre of my chest. I'm actually so shook, I'm coming off it for a week, hoping to reset, and going back to 5mg the following week. If no better, I'm stopping, it's not worth feeling this bad.

Losingthetimber · 13/02/2025 15:26

Yes we spend a lot less, I’m embarassed to say a takeaway cost us 60 odd quid, it is an expensive area to be fair in the south east and we bought from restaurants, and we’d over order and eat the leftovers next day, we would do that at least a couple of times a month,

in addition I would drink at least two bottles of wine a week, at 10 pound a pop, so just on that, it is a reduction of 240 a month. My husband also commented we spend a lot less on Ocado now too. I’ve not done the maths, but I suspect it is at least 40 - 50 quid a week.

An example is, in stead of just buying a single chicken kiev for us, you know like normal people, I’d buy double and we’d have 1.5 to two each, sort of thing, now it’s one each, everything is in much smaller and more appropriate quantities,

I also don’t eat any chocolate now, and I previously spent a few pounds a week on that. My husband eats crisps and nuts, so we still get those.but there is a ton of chocolate in the cupboard that’s been there since Xmas, inc all the Xmas selection box stuff, as my daughter eats it sparingly when here, or to be fair she eats it sparingly full stop and can stop at a couple of squares. Not eat the whole sharing bar.

I've had something similar - and it's really scared me. It's happened twice, two weeks apart and passed after two days. Incredibly painful, sort of like indigestion but worse. Am going to see a doctor and have contacted the pharmacy but i think I need to come off it. I've lost just over 2 stone and half way through my weightloss - might be it for me.

HappyNewt · 14/02/2025 09:49

First jab from 10mg pen today.....always a bit of trepidation stepping up....!

Hi, sorry you’ve both had a tough time. It’s really horrid when it happens. Before you decide to stop, do write down what you ate for the two days before. Was there anything particularly oily, or strongly spiced?

this happened to me. I had been on 5mg for a couple of weeks and had the most unpleasant sickness, diarrhoea and chest pains. It was some home made bolognaise. I had decided that a very small portion of spag bog was what I wanted with courgetti. I make my own and stuff it with vegetables (leftover habit of having a child who was reluctant to eat them) but it did have olive oil in. That mixed with Parmesan was enough to floor me. A few weeks later, I had the bolognaise sauce again (just a taster portion) and had a really growelly stomach. The chest pains could easily be indigestion.

I’m not saying don’t go to the doctor - do, if you’re worried. But do look carefully at what you’ve eaten first. I’m going to have to do without spag bog until possibly the autumn, when I hope to be on maintenance.

Do you really want to stop something that is working. I hope it works out for you.

ohforfoxs · 14/02/2025 13:42

@Witchlite Thank you! It was bolognese! And it had Parmesan on it. You've made me feel so much better! 😊

The first time it happened I had a McSpicy so wasn't surprised.

I'll go to the doctors but you've reassured me - am very grateful. ☺️
