Crazy we have come this far

Heading to 5mths - that's almost half a year

We have all done so well.

Be proud of ourselves

Yes we have Christmas Day to come but remember that eating a meal and some yummy stuff isn't going to make us all gain the weight back

We have to have some treats or else what is the point in life

Saying we are never going to eat ...... again isn't sustainable

But having one /small portion of something we want is a good thing

We have learnt restraint !!!

To 2025 one and all

Regarding fruit - I think having so much choice available to us has made some people lose sight of the fact that eating fruit can be an apple, an orange and a banana. It doesn’t have to be exotic or out of season fruits as delicious as they are. It can be what may be looked upon by many as old fashioned or boring basics so they don’t buy them.

Ive just had a wee look in Tesco online

6 gala apples 1.49
6 oranges 1.80
6 bananas 0.96

It comes to 4.25

I just can’t believe if you can afford to buy enough food to be overweight then you can’t afford 4.25 for fruit when your trying to eat less.

re eating clean. I’ve eaten clean for years. It’s my way of telling myself portion sizes didn’t matter as long as it was healthy. In fact I can recall one day my husband saying to me yeah, but I don’t think it means eating enough (wholemeal) spaghetti to knit a jumper.

@MrsHerbs79 looking fab!

All good points @20bloodypounds
We are a reflection of changing attitudes to health care . When I was considering MJ I was amazed at how many tests and treatments are available to buy now. Research is accessible.

Panorama perps - , I.don't think it's about paying for it. More that we were self motivated to explore and jump.in. And those on Paronoma had it imposed. For good reasons but still not under their own steam. And they were being managed so probably very NHS ideas of 3 of how 3 meals a day should look.

Edited

I spotted one of the medical staff with the "healthy plate" when they were talking about diet. Probably far too much carb and not enough protein.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/01/2025 09:40

As always bad junk food is cheaper and why so many people are fat

Iceland with their 10 for £10 pizza ETX

@NippyCrab not a coffee lover but understand the dismay at lack of

equally if doing cals. — take 100

a banana

low fat crisps

an apple

small Freddo cock bar

Small lump of cheese

olives

peanuts

all same

so can almost understand why someone might say I have 100 cals left. Don’t want to waste on fruit and have cock bar

Proud of myself.. I had crisps for the first time since August last night.. not been denying myself just not fancied them, but I did last night, and poured some in a bowl and just ate them and was satisfied. Now before I would demolish the while (large) packet along with chocolate after..

morbidcuriosity · 15/01/2025 10:24

@Blondeshavemorefun laughing at your typo there.. "rather have a cock bar" . Lol.
Shame the 12.5 not doing anything, what day is your jab day again??

And also agree on the cheap junk food, I was looking at the iceland website and saw the 10 for £10! Would of all been in my freezer before, nuggets and chips galore.. lol. Now it's full of chicken breast and batch cooked foods. Ha

Weepixie · 15/01/2025 10:33

I know. I was going to say something along the lines of be careful you don’t choke on it but I decided to behave instead.

FlappingMadly · 15/01/2025 10:40

😂 cock bar right next to Boots. Jolly handy.

I am hungry too. Yesterday i had bacon and egg with a thick slice of toast. I still felt hungry afterwards and in the old days would have had another slice and maybe another after that. But I just sat with it and after 30 mins or so I felt satiated. Probs due to the MJ but will bear it in mind.

morbidcuriosity · 15/01/2025 10:46

Yes @FlappingMadly agree on waiting after eating. Like I knew this anyway but never did it, it's always been said you feel full 20 or 3o mins after eating, but my greedy self never really went along with it.. now even if I have food left on my plate I stop as soon as I feel a bit full, then realise 30 minutes later I am actually very full, MJ helping obviously, but hoping I take this with me after my MJ journey..

Morning everyone!

I hope you're all doing OK.

Lots of chat about MJ rabbit holes 🙈

I have to admit that i dont find those helpful so i prefer to avoid everything else other than this thread. Some people are so horrid about MJ users that its all noise i can do without!

I saw an old friend the other day and ive lost 3 stones since I last saw her and she didn't mention anything which i found a tiny bit deflating, silly, i know! But a couple of the mums at the school gates who I haven't seen for a few weeks noticed I've lost weight which was nice.

Jab day for me so I stepped on the scales and I'm back at 12 stones 7lbs which I first hit back on 20th Dec. Gained 2lbs over Xmas and now that's finally gone. I feel like I can reset again.

Happy Wednesday peeps! Onwards and downwards! 😀

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/01/2025 11:11

@FlappingMadly that’s what I had this am

toast one slice
2 bacon medalions
2 eggs

love a CHOC bar. Have Aldi deano dinosaur

and I don’t really do chocolate.

I think it helped as I didn't have any in the house and didn't fancy any, but I had a packet a friend left here from about 2 weeks ago and last night with my glass of wine I thought ooo crisps would be nice. . And still shocked I only ate what I put in the bowl, and didn't go back for a refill..

Hopefully Friday will top you up and the hunger goes again. My 7.5 is still working nicely, I have 3rd 7.5 in the fridge but only 2 shots in this pen.
Going to change to oushk next order but that won't be for a few weeks and I'm hoping I can stay on 7.5 but I shall see nearer the time.

weaseleyes · 15/01/2025 12:03

I find the cheapness of junk food really depressing. But it's not just about it being cheap. I think if you can't afford much in life, you're more inclined to give your kids something like pizza that has a bit of a dopamine hit than you are to slave over the lentils. Also it's made to be addictive, so both the kids and the parent doing the shopping and cooking are going to be more interested in eating pizza than an alternative. This applies to a lot of food that isn't seen as junk food too, like fancier ready meals and snacks.

I was interested to see the proposed refinements to BMI, which sound good. To be honest, though, I think there's a lot of misunderstanding of BMI, and it's a broadly helpful measure for most people. Like a lot of measures, though, it's generalising across a big population, which isn't the same as offering personalised measures and medicine. So people see that a muscular athlete is classed as overweight and think that invalidates the measure completely (which is a nice reason to discount health messages), whereas the majority of us aren't muscular athletes and its perfectly fine! Or people look at the weights in a healthy BMI range and say how they couldn't possibly be at the lower end as they'd look gaunt as if someone is insisting they should be at the lower end. The whole point is it's a range that generalises across a population and your own personal best spot on the range will vary depending on body type, preference, build etc - there's a lot of scope for difference. I think most people who are anywhere within a normal BMI range and haven't had issues with obesity or eating look fine and don't walk around looking gaunt unless they're underweight, but it's also perfectly fine to aim for the top end of the range because that's where you feel most comfortable or think you look best. No one's saying the lower end is better.

MargoLivebetter · 15/01/2025 12:14

I don't know what I think about the BMI thing. I'm a very average human. Only slightly above the average height, my bones seem to be normalish and I'm not an athlete, so BMI makes sense for me. The ranges work. Personally, I think I'd be a bit too slim at the lowest healthy BMI, but I suspect from a health perspective I'd be fine.

I also can't help wonder how many athletes or weight trainers are genuinely marked down by their GP as obese, when they are clearly not!!!! I wonder if politics aren't at play and it is an attempt to make less people be categorised as overweight or obese. Maybe that is just me being very cynical.

@weaseleyes the cheapness of junk food makes me sad too. I firmly believe that cooking should be taught at school from primary all the way through, along with what used to be home economics. I think we fail children with education, as we don't educate them about all the practical but vitally important stuff in life.

owlyboo · 15/01/2025 12:59

@Blondeshavemorefun a yummy cock bar 😂 careful you don't have to much cock being so hungry today 😂😂

@Princessandthepie like some others have said if someone doesn't know you're actively trying to lose weight then they might feel awkward saying it. If you've lost 3 stone you undoubtedly look different!

I saw a friend a haven't seen for a good few months today for a walk (since maybe id lost around a stone or so) and she couldn't believe how different I look. She said she had to do a double take. When I said I'd lost 4 1/2 stone (well one pound off but who's counting) she said she didn't believe I had that amount to lose in the first place. I think we all became a bit blind to ourselves and our closest friend's/families weight.

@weaseleyes I completely agree with the worries of looking 'gaunt' I think it's just you're not used to seeing yourself at that smaller weight. Like I said previously my bmi is completely correct I think. 11 stone being around a size 12 and I would imagine the lower end would be a size 8ish. Which both are healthy and acceptable they're just different. And it's up to you what you think looks/feels nicer a fuller figured healthy or a much slimmer figure... both are fine.

AuntieDote · 15/01/2025 13:19

Thank you all for being lovely and supportive as I get back into the thread and into MJ.

Really interesting discussions about BMI - I'm definitely one who thinks of the BMI range, particularly the lower range, as being almost unattainably 'skinny' for me. Even looking my slimmest (where I'm pretty sure nobody would think of me as overweight from looks alone) I think I was at the very top end of the range if not slightly over. But that's not to say I'm right and they're wrong - it's just what you're used to and how you perceive yourself/ how others perceive you I guess.

2.5 is definitely not packing the punch it once did this time round - I'm starving today. And thinking a lot about sweet stuff etc. Still, it's somehow 100 times easier to just not have that stuff than it felt last week. I'm not sure what the magic is if it's not appetite suppressant and it's not switching off the food noise but somehow it is making it doable again - maybe it's just my mindset has switched back to being 'on it'!

A nice reminder that I've not undone everything and still come so far this morning - I'd shoved on a pair of jeans I thought were a recent vinted purchase but were actually a size 18 pair I still have in my wardrobe. Hectic rush to get DD to school this morning so didn't bother changing them, they felt OK, but then as I was walking as quickly as I could to get back in time to start work they were falling down literally around my knees - good job I had a long coat on 😂I may have had a bit of a gain over the last month but I've still come a long long way!

NippyCrab · 15/01/2025 13:27

I agree with everyone above, the podiatrist said to me yesterday how good I was looking and asked if that was me at goal? She said please don't go with BMI, she's tall but super fit and lithe, she runs but also weight trains, she's marked as overweight on the BMI scale.

When I feel "right" I'll know.

I'm not at the pool today, DH passport is coming today and to he signed for, there's always something that I let stop me from doing some activity I'm nervous about.

All 3 dogs also have pink eye ffs! So we had a shorter walk this morning and went to the vets, fuck me what a palaver, she was a new vet and wanted them weighed, knob dog was an angel, chocolate chip was a wee fanny and slipped her collar. The pup omg, skittish is mild. I had to weigh myself then have him on with me. I was 76kg with all my layers boots heavy equidry coat and purse and phone in pocket haha. I would never have stood on those scales before.

I could murder some cockolate Blondes 😂😂😂

I don't feel hungry at all today, i did my 3.75 then Sunday night i injected the rest of the 5mg, I'm so brave lol 😅
I chucked that pen away, I wasn't sure when I opened it so I didn't take the bonus dose, my new pen is coming Friday.

NippyCrab · 15/01/2025 13:29

Aww @AuntieDote it's so good to see you back and that you're feeling much better. Laughing at the jeans at the knees. Xx

OP posts:
weaseleyes · 15/01/2025 14:59

I have crepey and quite a lot of loose skin @FlappingMadly - but I'm old, so feel I should resign myself to it, and it's better than being obese. My upper arms are pretty ropey, as are my thighs and stomach. I nurse a faint hope it may diminish in time! If not, I shall cover up and enjoy having less to cover.

@AuntieDote I'm definitely one who thinks of the BMI range, particularly the lower range, as being almost unattainably 'skinny' for me.
It might be, that's the point! Your BMI range is the one that most (but not all) women of your height will be healthy within. It's a range for the population of women your height, not you personally. You might well feel fine at the higher end, and there's no reason you should be any lower. There's probably an optimum BMI for you personally, taking your build, genetics and medical history etc into account, but the standard calculator isn't designed to produce that. I do think people feel unduly defensive about saying how they couldn't possibly be at the lower end, when there's no necessary expectation they should be.

In a lot of cases, though, I think it's just we've been overweight for a long time and it's become kind of inconceivable that we could be so much thinner. My BMI range is 7'4" - 9'10", which is a really big difference! I've been underweight as a young adult and had to get pretty underweight before there was any gauntness. I think I look best around the upper middle, but it's a while since I've been there so I may think differently now I'm old. I will benefit from a bit more padding. My similarly aged and tiny friend is at the lower end, but I shan't feel at all bad if don't end up there, as my build is very different and I have a head the size of Jupiter.
