Just approved and am assuming that the pen won’t arrive until after Christmas so will start the new year with a, er, prick.

Anyway, thought I’d start a thread for anyone else planning on a slimmer 2025!

It's great there's so many of us starting. I'd love to hear people's updates and check ins re side edfects/or lack of and how people are managing.

MissPobjoysPonies · 27/12/2024 22:05

I joined the starting in December thread but it’s quite full and I’m a v late starter so can I join?

My pen has been in fridge for a week or so - had a v stressful lead up to Xmas with family member in a &e and hospital until 24th - actually lost 5lbs in a week but stress related. Was going to start last night but chickened out and did it at around 7pm tonight!

Was excited and scared and thought I was having a reaction (I’m a big wuss - had a similar moment when I had Botox for migraines 😝)
Anyway hoping to lose 3 stone from here - BMI is 30, 5ft 6 197lbs (although currently due to stress 192lbs)
ordered via med express with someone on here’s discount code, once they’d got all the correct info/pics etc they were super quick.

🤞 this works

VelvetWildflower · 27/12/2024 22:56

MedExpress says it's been dispatched but Royal Mail haven't received it yet so it looks like it'll be Monday/Tuesday for me.

Frederick12 · 27/12/2024 23:22

Would also like to join - have not yet decided on which one to use - what are your recommendations

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 27/12/2024 23:46

I have mine in the fridge waiting eep! I’m doing Voy and have my welcome call booked for Monday 30th. Plan to start on Jan 1st - and not eat or drink too much on NYE in anticipation! Be good to know what vitamins and things people have bought? Good luck everyone 🤞

I’m BMI 29 and hoping to lose about 1.5 stones at least this year.

LouScot · 27/12/2024 23:59

Hi, I've been debating for months whether to start, and finally ordered so thought I'd join.

Delivery was meant to be next week but I had a text about 6pm to say it was arriving tomorrow, so I want to start then so I'm okay for the New Year.

I'll get away with Hogmanay as I'm not a huge drinker anyway and head to bed shortly after the Bells, but obviously I'm Scottish so the 1st is a big family day, similar to Christmas with the obligatory steak pie etc. (And 2nd is more of the same!!). I'm not too bothered about not eating as much, I just don't want to be unwell physically, so hopefully any side effects will have settled down as I'm keeping it to myself (not so much fear of judgement, I just don't want some family members to worry I'm taking it).

BMI is 38.5..first mini target is bmi 35, which for me is 1.5 stones

serendipities · 28/12/2024 07:30

I’ve just ordered my first dose and I’m a bit nervous. It’s something I’ve been thinking about doing for ages but I broke my leg four months ago and ended up piling even more weight on because I wasn’t moving around as much. I’m worried about the side effects but also really looking forward to feeling better about myself and healing my relationship with food! I need to lose about 3.5 stone 🤞🏻

QueenBarbs · 28/12/2024 07:53

Other than the injection it's self, what else have other people got in ready to start? Such as any vitamins or just anything you've got in hope it will help?

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 28/12/2024 08:08

I haven't got special vitamins (but do take b12 and D anyway)

But I've been building my Tesco order with more "real" food with some better things to snack on (fruit, veg, yoghurt, hummus) post Xmas and things like prunes in case of constipation.

I know it will be a bit of trial and error with food but I'm trying to reduce UPF too. It does read that some people crave all the real. Food and less carbs so thought I'd start off as I mean to go!

Organising/preparing food is my biggest downfall (ND) I could if it was all I did but I struggle after work or when exhausted and go for convenience so I'm hoping to work on this too.

cloudjumper · 28/12/2024 08:39

I'm taking multivitamins anyway, so will continue that. A friend who's been doing mounjaro for about 5 weeks now has recommended to stock up on protein drinks/bars, and to take electrolytes, the latter in case of headaches. We eat quite well anyway, so that's not so much of an issue, but snacking is my downfall! Luckily, the amount of chocolate we have in the house should drastically reduce after the holidays...

Still waiting for my pen to dispatch!! 😩

VelvetWildflower · 28/12/2024 09:27

MedExpress email has said it'll be here by January 31st (estimated) so hoping it could possibly even be Monday if everything goes to plan 🤞

I'm so ready to go now. I'm trying to still eat like I will on the injection to gear my body up. Apart from some Brie, all the Christmas food has gone in the house now which is helpful.

I take Vitamin D3, C, B12 and magnesium every day as standard but I'll add in daily electrolytes (I have them in the house as I have POTS so rely on them when I get flare ups) to ensure I stay very hydrated. I don't take a multivitamin though, everything is individual.

Taking down the Christmas tree today as it's giving me the ick and is not supporting my new mindset. I need to clean.

Hi @Peaceandquietandacuppa I'm in almost exactly the same situation as you! Have the welcome call with Voy on Monday, planning to start on the 1st Jan, BMI of 29 and hoping to lose 2 stone ☺️

TicTac80 · 28/12/2024 09:35

Would anyone mind me joining in? I'm just waiting approval for Mounjaro.

I'm 5ft 4, weight is 77.2kg. I know BMI is under 30/35 but I have got PCOS, asthma and a have a BAME background. :'( 6-7yrs ago, I was 20kg lighter. My diet and exercise levels haven't changed in that time (and I'm a nurse - so can easily do 15-20k steps a day - I'd hate to think what my weight would be now if I had a more sedentary job).

Most food is prepped from scratch at home. Only thing that has changed is early onset menopause (I started HRT about 6 months ago to help deal with the rotten symptoms I've been getting). Tried everything to sort this weight gain but no joy. I'm just waiting to see if Zava will allow Mounjaro. In meantime, I'll monitor food intake etc and increase exercise levels more.

Seaitoverthere · 28/12/2024 09:56

@TicTac80 menopause has done me over. I needed a hysterectomy and was put on Prostap to induce menopause and shrink uterus size to allow keyhole prior to it and put on 33lbs in 11 weeks after just one injection (was supposed to be 3 but refused the other 2.) with no change to amount of food I ate or my exercise as it was all carefully tracked. I was gutted as had lost 100lbs and maintained for 2 years. Gynae nurse said it would come off after op but then got Covid and was rough for ages and it didn’t.

Was getting loads of joint pain stopping me going back to running so in desperation I tried HRT and that triggered a huge flare of what I know now is psoriatic arthritis which I had had for years but would often be in remission. I put on about another stone and a half from that and ended up only a stone down from my original start weight. I have managed to lose 2.5 stone since end of last year and have had a hip replacement as had hip dysplasia.

Rheumatology meds have made it really difficult to lose and my weight goes up every time I have a dose increase and I am really fed up with it all so have decided to give Mounjaro a go to try and get over the hump I am at . Also hoping that I may benefit from decreased inflammation.

Thelittlestranger · 28/12/2024 09:56

I'm starting tomorrow - have been away for the night last night and get home this afternoon. Will weigh myself and Im going to take pics too.

I've got in protein powder (although we usually have that) and I have Huel food in anyway. I'm determined to keep the protein up, as I like to weight train (nothing major!) and want to keep what muscle I have.

Plan is to cut out UPFs - starting with sweeteners. I realised I have it in all my drinks - tea, coffee, diet coke, squash.

Time is also my enemy when at work @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden so prep is key. I've done this before, and been unable to do it again. Hoping this will help me reset my thinking and get to a place of maintenance, rather than needing to lose.

Pandora71 · 28/12/2024 10:17

I’m still waiting for approval and dispatch so in the meantime I’m prepping my mindset and environment:

— food order: salmon, chicken, tuna, mackerel, fruit, veg, yoghurt, seeds and nuts. I also quite like the cheap chocolate protein drinks at Tesco so they are on the order.
— intending to cut alcohol completely. I don’t drink regularly, more like once a week. But I don’t particularly need/enjoy so I’m intending to drop it completely for now
— hoping MJ might help me kick my Diet Coke addition. Currently I only function on 4 cans a day. Maybe this might help!
— getting out my big milestone water bottle and starting to use it rather than glasses so I can ensure I’m drinking enough. Also intending to drink weak squash as well as water. I don’t drink tea or coffee anyway.
— ordered a standard multivitamin which I’ll start taking daily
— later I’m going to get all the sugary treats out the house. These are my downfall and post Christmas chocolate and mince pies are still around.
— mentally accept it is ok to waste a bit of food for a while. I’m a hooverer - kids don’t finish, at present I just tidy it in to my mouth. This needs to change. I also think it doesn’t help with their relationship with food.
— I exercise a lot anyway but it’ll help me mentality that I’m on “mission get healthy” to have some structured targets, so I’m planning these.
— each day pre jab is successively getting healthier, less Christmas crap, more good food and exercise so getting back to some kind of “normal” or slight calorie deficit so the switch is less extreme on the body.

SW: ~ 161lbs / 11st 7lbs I’ll weigh when I start.
GW: 130lbs / 9st 4lbs, the top of the healthy BMI range

Pandora71 · 28/12/2024 10:19

Oh and check out “shotsy” app. It just a weight tracker but allows you to track your doses too. Nice graphing

TicTac80 · 28/12/2024 10:28

@Seaitoverthere , my God, you poor thing. It sounds like you've been through the wringer! I had peri symptoms start about 6yrs ago (and initially thought it was everything but peri!). So, extreme tiredness, memory fog, flushes/night sweats, periods stopping, MS aches/pains etc. Went to my GP but they didn't do anything at all. Covid arrived.

I asked GP several times after covid to help me address these problems, but they told me that it was not likely to be peri as I was too young. Didn't check me for other things. (I get it, I know how busy they are). About 3 yrs ago, I saved up and went to a private GP for a full check over (to make sure it wasn't an underlying health issue). Massive range of blood tests and other tests done - all clear. Symptoms continued, weight kept increasing. Got another full check over a year or so later - everything still clear. One of the doctors I work with suggested it could be early onset menopause (I was really worrying what on earth was going on with me). Saved and went to see a private gynaecologist, who did a third full check over to rule out other causes (again everything clear) and then put me on HRT - with tweaks every approx 3 months. Symptoms improving but shifting the weight is bloody difficult.

It's bloody awful isn't it? I'm really hoping that I'm approved and that this helps to kick start things for me. I'm scared that if I don't address this soon, I'm going to be in big trouble healthwise a few short years in the future. I'm 44, I'm a single parent and I work FT. I need to be able to keep working in my job and keep healthy for my kids. Even my colleagues have commented on the weight: not in a horrible way, but we were looking at staff pics from >6yrs ago and the difference in my appearance is marked (it would be different with a 20kg weight increase!!). I'm also well known amongst my colleague to rarely eat cake/cookies/UPF food, not take sugar/fizzy drinks, rarely take alcohol etc (I prep/batch cook stuff and bring it in to eat)....so I know it isn't diet.

Def going to start to monitor food/macros, do frequent weigh ins, ensure I have plenty of water and keep prepping/batch cooking stuff. Still waiting to hear from Zava. I've sent the pics etc that they have asked for. Hope they won't take long to check them, and I hope they approve it all!!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 28/12/2024 10:37

Is it just that we are going to be literally eating less on this as it takes away the hunger? Or is it other magic?

cloudjumper · 28/12/2024 10:39

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 28/12/2024 10:37

It takes away hunger/appetite, you still need to watch what you eat and how much.

undercoverhero74 · 28/12/2024 10:40

Hello, I took my first dose yesterday and so far so good I think. No side effects but no suppression yet either. Knowing my luck I will be the only person it doesn't work for.

Those who have already started have you noticed any effects?

Thelittlestranger · 28/12/2024 11:36

I've just realised the irony of saying I'm cutting out UPF, and then listing the protein powders I've bought 😂

Small steps 🫣 and education for me!!

Seaitoverthere · 28/12/2024 11:39

@TicTac80 yes it is rubbish and I am so sorry you have been struggling too. I started peri symptoms at 39 I think. 55 now and had hysterectomy at 50. I do get fewer hot flushes now and sleep has improved. Really rubbish you struggled to get help. Sadly that is familiar to me. I had to see 2 private rheumatologists before diagnosis of my psoriatic arthritis. My GP wouldn’t refer me and the first guy was not good. Ironically I did research in a rheumatology department years ago so I knew something was wrong as I felt like my patients said they felt they did. My hip was in a terrible state before my op this year and I was having to use 2 sticks and bought a wheelchair which didn’t get used as op date then came through much quicker than I was told thank goodness.

Op had been brilliant and I feel incredibly lucky to have regained my mobility and will do anything not to lose it again. Won’t be running again which I started in my late 40s as I think that finished my hip off and I wouldn’t have if I knew I had undiagnosed hip dysplasia, shall be a swimmer instead .

The Shotsy app is saying that my estimated level is around 2mg this morning. I haven’t eaten yet and am not particularly hungry but that isn’t too abnormal for me as often fast in the morning over the last couple of years but had been struggling to do recently.

Cuppaandcakes20 · 28/12/2024 13:16

Mine has arrived today. I'm tempted to start right away but nervous of side effects.

thecoffeeowl · 28/12/2024 13:30

Hi can I join? I’ve ordered through Oushk and have yet to be approved but delivery date is 7th January so have a little wait. They have just sent a discount code for new customers only - could I use this on the next pen? Has anyone else with Oushk been able to use a discount as a new customer on a second order OR been able to get a reduction on their first? Or as I’ve already now ordered do I not qualify for this anymore? Annoying!
