DH has been on them for a couple of months and they've changed our lives for the better. He's an over eater/ mild binger and generally quite obsessed with food. Never managed to keep weight off.

Now he's happy, calm, doesn't think about food, eats like a 'normal person' and it's freed up so much space and joy in our lives.

Apparently in the future it'll be a pill you can either take that day or not, e.g. Most days but not Christmas day. Incredible!

Yes I know people get side effects and they don't work for everyone, etc. But I'm very impressed.
Apparently they also help alcoholics and other addicts as they work on the reward centre's of the brain. Amazing.

Has anyone used "Voy" for their Mounjaro? I have been toying with getting it and it is £129.65 for 2.5mg

@SilenceInside Is it time for WLI bingo again 😂

ImageMirror · 02/12/2024 22:59

I am addicted to food. I genuinely don’t eat big meals, I couldn’t eat a full pizza for example but I eat thousands of calories in snacks. I tried a weight loss jab last year. It totally took away my appetite but the nausea was too much, I couldn’t eat a mouthful of food without vomiting. I’m a community nurse and literally has to excuse myself from patient’s so I could go outside to my car and vomit into a bag. Amazing things if they work for you!

Noshowlomo · 02/12/2024 22:59

Oct 18th I started and I’ve lost 1st 2.5 so slower than others but I feel amazing. Also not had a drink in 52 days, I just don’t fancy any alcohol at all, my mind feels calm now like I just don’t need it. I used to drink soooo much Prosecco and now the thought turns me sick

It's bonkers to me that some people were so suspicious about the long term effects of the COVID vaccine, and yet many of those same people are happily not only taking pills for no real reason (since there are many other weight loss methods) but also PAYING for them. They might well change the world, but it won't be in a good way.

You've literally just made that up. How on earth do you know that swathes of MJ users also rejected vaccinations?

@Iloveburgerswaymorethanishould Peppermint soft gels! The answer to sulphur burps.

healthybychristmas · 02/12/2024 23:00

@Iloveburgerswaymorethanishould those burps are called sulphur burps and taste foul. However I could always link them to something I was doing wrong such as eating late at night, eating something very rich or spicy, and some friends have said they had it when they were drinking alcohol. I haven't drank any alcohol since I started, six months ago.

healthybychristmas · 02/12/2024 23:00

Op, where did you see this? I find that very interesting.

Wildywondrous · 02/12/2024 23:01

@Buttermill You need to have a bmi over 30 to qualify, they won't be prescribed to people wanting to only lose a few pounds.

Cavalierchaos · 02/12/2024 23:01

Just reading the comments, that is such a lot of money. I do hope they become cheaper, and I also hope they become available for everyone. I'm slim but podgy, as in I have a belly. I absolutely love food, crave it all the time, think about it all the time. My days revolve around what I'm going to eat next. So whilst I don't need to lose massive amounts of weight, I so wish the food noise could be turned off.

I'm sorry they made you unwell. Can you explain what happened? I don't know anybody personally who's been ill as a result of them. Who were you getting them from and what dose were you on? How much did you weigh at the start?

Hi @healthybychristmas I am in the obese category. I took one initial dose of 2.5mg on the Friday night and by Tuesday night was hospitalised with acute pancreatitis. I knew it was a risk but thought there'd be warning signs and maybe I didn't really focus on those risks because I was keen to give it a go. For me it was a very sudden and frightening 'attack' that means I can't take anything like that again unfortunately.

doodleschnoodle · 02/12/2024 23:01

I use these:

Peppermint Oil Capsules 50mg, 180... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06Y3FFDXM?ref=ppxpoppmobappshar

They cut down gas and make any burps minty Grin they also have quite a nice warming effect in your tummy and chest as they start working!

healthybychristmas · 02/12/2024 23:01

@Notsuchafattynow it's so funny how we got blamed for paying for the drugs. Can you imagine what would happen if we were getting them on the NHS?

MothToAnInferno · 02/12/2024 23:02

Triflelife · 02/12/2024 22:49

I am also interested in this! Is it possible to get them if your bmi is in range? I feel like if I could lose a few pounds I’d be able to keep it off. I gained during pregnancy and just never lost the final bit.

I think the current thinking is that for obese people the benefits outweigh the risks but for people who just want to lose a few pounds to look better the same can't be said. It's touched upon in this article.

This is interesting to read, especially that they could help more generally with addictions. The value of shares in the companies that hold the patents for these drugs must be through the roof.

Its true I have not only got my blood sugars down (I am type 2 diabetic), I have lost weight but also given up smoking, vaping and having out of control shopping sprees, I was addicted to so much, although the cost of the injection isn't cheap (I didn't qualify even though I was diagnosed as diabetic to get it on NHS as I had previously managed to get my HBa1c down from 80 to 40, with diet alone. However my addiction to food and food noise had returned, the weight was creeping up and so I asked about Mounjaro, my GP said although they couldn't prescribe it as I am considered pre diabetic now and my BMI just under 30, they said they would help monitor me on it if I get it privately..

Thanks for the tip, have ordered those. Mine aren’t particularly sulphurous, just a lot of them !

Wildywondrous · 02/12/2024 23:03

I've lost over 4.5 stone and am less than a stone from goal and feel bloody amazing, it's definitely improved my relationships with other people because I'm so much happier in myself.

This time last year I was in a tight size 18 and refused all christmas invitations but this year I'll be going to every single one in my size 12 outfits.

Notsuchafattynow · 02/12/2024 23:04

Buttermill · 02/12/2024 22:31

To all those who have started im curious where you "overweight" before? Has anyone tried it with a BMI in range but just to loose a few pounds or a stone say?

To be approved in the UK, your BMI has to be 30+ which puts people in the obese category. Anyone classed as overweight, wouldn't have a high enough BMI.

Obviously, the can stop whenever they like, after a stone etc.

Anyone who gets it when they are under 30 bmi, are not using the medication as it was designed, and very likely buying a counterfeit product.

OrangesCinammonIvy · 02/12/2024 23:05

@NantesElephant who does own the patents

fiddleleaffig · 02/12/2024 23:06

Yep been on them for a year and have lost 3 stone (maintaining right now). Aside from the weight loss, they made my impulsivity completely subside. I have adhd and a bit of a shopaholic, but since starting Wegovy I've actually built up savings in my account. I don't know if it's related or a coincidence but I'm loving it. That constant itch that needs be scratched (like eating or shopping) just seems to have gone

Iloveburgerswaymorethanishould · 02/12/2024 23:07

Sorry I haven’t tagged people… So it’s a reaction to the injection and I’ve not constantly got a tummy bug?? Don’t know why I didn’t link the two before!!! Thankyou 💐.
I didn’t think it was doing anything to me much weight wise as I have always fluctuated daily but others (and me finally!!) have mentioned my body shape has changed. Flatter tummy, more definition between waist and hips. And I’ve done naf all to help, not changed eating habits (though a lot less food goes in!) but the same food, I don’t work out but my job means I move loads more than before etc. My partner is on the tablet form for T2, and he’s lost 5 stone since January but clearly he’s on that for being diabetic. So it must work for weight loss.

UncharteredWaters · 02/12/2024 23:08

For those who know their obesity has a psychological cause as well, eg overeating due to low self esteem/ trauma etc? have you done anything for the root cause?
im interested to know if many people are doing the psychology/emotional/mental health side as well? Wondering what will happen when you stop the injection if that isn’t worked on as well?

dogwal · 02/12/2024 23:10

I think Sharon Osbourne and a few other celebs are cautionary tales for using these injections to lose just a few pounds, it destroyed their looks, apparently Sharon Osbourne is now unable to gain any weight and looks emaciated.

They really are for those with a serious weight problem, my husband is looking great with the weight loss.

Parrotting · 02/12/2024 23:10

Can I ask how it affects people who take the injections?

I’m seriously considering it but I don’t want to get to a point where I don’t enjoy eating and drinking at all - I like a meal out and an occasional social drink. It’s the everyday snacking, grazing and excess that I need to curb.
