DH has been on them for a couple of months and they've changed our lives for the better. He's an over eater/ mild binger and generally quite obsessed with food. Never managed to keep weight off.

Now he's happy, calm, doesn't think about food, eats like a 'normal person' and it's freed up so much space and joy in our lives.

Apparently in the future it'll be a pill you can either take that day or not, e.g. Most days but not Christmas day. Incredible!

Yes I know people get side effects and they don't work for everyone, etc. But I'm very impressed.
Apparently they also help alcoholics and other addicts as they work on the reward centre's of the brain. Amazing.

I don't think I've read a supportive post from the other half of a weight loss injection user. Glad it's working for you both.

TheSilkWorm · 02/12/2024 19:38

Yes they are and yes they will! Like a miracle almost.

AliceAbsolum · 02/12/2024 21:04

Just hope they get cheaper.

I'm super jealous! I'm overweight and have struggled with my weight all my life. I am always always hungry. But I'm not heavy enough for mounjaro (I'm overweight but not obese). Thought about getting it illegally but I'm too scared of the side effects when not under medical supervision. I would love to just have one day where I didn't think about food constantly

ExtraOnions · 02/12/2024 21:38

I started on them just over 2 weeks ago … from an eating perspective it’s great, no food noise, no binging, just small regular meals. Downside atm is nausea, and burps !. This should settle over time, but tbh I’m a Stone down, so can cope with the nausea.

Lovemycat2023 · 02/12/2024 21:55

I really wish they had been around longer, so I could be more comfortable with longer term effects. I am fairly obsessed with food, although having done that scoring thing not 100%, and am about a stone overweight. If I were more overweight I would definitely use them, but I feel like I should be able to do it without any risks. The more I hear, the more I am tempted to try it.

UmbrellaEllaEllaElla · 02/12/2024 21:56

It could be the end of obesity. Marvellous!

User364837 · 02/12/2024 22:01

I’m feeling similar but almost afraid to feel too excited as I’ve had so many times over the years where I think I’ve cracked it only for it to fall apart again!

im a binge eater and have been on Mounjaro for about 6 months. Im still on a fairly low dose. Im eating fairly normally but it has just helped me curb my bingeing and eat a bit less. I still can binge occasionally but the frequency and severity is so much less.

More than weight loss to be free of the self loathing and disgust and awful feeling when I’ve eaten too much (again) is amazing. Night after night going to bed with a stomach ache vowing to do better the next day and failing.

I think of moujaro as my binge eating medication.

im losing weight slowly as im not dieting as such, but because im no longer overeating so much im slowly losing weight. My BMI has gone from just under 35 to about 30. I’m planning to get down to about 27 BMI and work out how to hover there.

I absolutely think GLP-1 agonist drugs are the next 'big' thing. We are only scratching the surface of what they can do, there's mounting evidence that they can reduce the risk and lessen the effects of various cancers, neurological conditions, fatty liver disease, and probably much more that hasn't been uncovered yet.

doodleschnoodle · 02/12/2024 22:07

And they will almost certainly get cheaper as patents come to an end and generic versions come onto the market, etc. They are already talking about pill forms of medication similar to Mounjaro, which will likely cost less, especially for those on maintenance doses who may not want a weekly regimen like the current pens are made for.

Can I ask how much everyone is paying for their injections. I want to do it as I’ve hit mid 40s and have gained 2 stone and just can’t get it off.

I hate how I look now. Feel like I may give it a try after Xmas x

NantesElephant · 02/12/2024 22:09

This is interesting to read, especially that they could help more generally with addictions. The value of shares in the companies that hold the patents for these drugs must be through the roof.

MissMarvelMum · 02/12/2024 22:13

@Squishysquishmallow

Hi! I’m getting mine from med express and they are around £150 every 4 weeks, but the price does increase as the dose does too. I started on October 3rd and have lost 23lb so far.

I pay about £150 a month for mine, DH is same. We quite often get discount codes that bring it down by £20 or so. Some people go really hard on referral codes that bring prices down. I don't really like providers who have that kind of ethos so avoid them, but if money is a big concern then you can get it down quite a lot if you advertise your referral code in plenty of places.

I've lost 40lbs and DH has lost 50lbs since starting in Sept. I've gone from a size 16-18 to a size 10-12. I still have 20lbs or so to go but I haven't been this weight since my early 20s! I've also had some other positive side effects, more energy, no aches and pains, it's calmed some of my ADHD stuff.

@AliceAbsolum Just curious, what was your stance before?

Santasbigredbobblehat · 02/12/2024 22:17

Do they have to be taken for ever? What happens when you stop?

Maybe 🤷🏼‍♀️ when you stop, your appetite comes back.

Flidina · 02/12/2024 22:21

I think, these might work in the short term, but I know some of my friends who have been on them, have regained the weight they lost and more, people I know are actually worried about stopping them, even though they've achieved the desired weightloss, in case they regain. At this point I don't think enough is known about the effects of long term use, everyone sees it as a miracle drug, when something is too good to be true, it usually is.

Some people probably will take them on an ongoing basis. Others will be able to maintain a lifestyle to keep weight off. It just depends. It's like any weight loss regime: you need to continue the lifestyle changes you've made to maintain. All weight loss methods come with a very high incidence of weight going back on.

It's likely that some people will remain on it for the foreseeable, some at reduced doses, while others will come off altogether.

This is my worry. I am watching with interest (battling huge weight gain from steroids) but I am not prepared to be a guinea pig. Especially not after the number of health problems I already have that were caused by taking medication for other conditions.

Buttermill · 02/12/2024 22:31

To all those who have started im curious where you "overweight" before? Has anyone tried it with a BMI in range but just to loose a few pounds or a stone say?

MikeRafone · 02/12/2024 22:32

I think they are the new statins

Newdevelopment · 02/12/2024 22:33

£130-£150 a month is quite a lot of money. I think for some people it will just be much much cheaper to eat better quality food, especially in the very long term. Pills will be seen as a quick fix, albeit a short term one, for some people. I wouldn’t want to be a Guinea pig though. Wonder how many years or decades they’ve been studied for?

Josie901 · 02/12/2024 22:34

Really great to hear it's working well for him. My friend's husband is on them though and he's completely disinterested in sex. Something to do with it being unable to distinguish between kinds of rewards? She preferred him overweight (he wasn't by much and he got them privately online) and wanting to have sex with her!

TotallyTwisted · 02/12/2024 22:36

It's bonkers to me that some people were so suspicious about the long term effects of the COVID vaccine, and yet many of those same people are happily not only taking pills for no real reason (since there are many other weight loss methods) but also PAYING for them. They might well change the world, but it won't be in a good way.
