So I have finally seen some movement on the scales for the first time in a week... I weighed 2 pounds lighter this morning! Just had my third injection, so hoping I can keep it off and lose some more before the weekend. I've said it before and I'll say it again though... I really can't each very much at all if I want to lose weight... 600-800 calories max. The mj keeps the hunger pangs at bay but I just don't know how sustainable this can be.

Ralala · 11/12/2024 10:58

Usually in December I just try to maintain and not gain but over exercising to compensate for lots of alcohol and over eating. My exercising has been non existent due to being so unwell last week but did manage the gym last night. I have no desire to over eat or drink but I still want to have fun. I don’t think I’m boring sober anyway if that makes sense! I will have a wine on Friday at my Xmas party mainly because I don’t have the car but I don’t think I will over do it

Oceangreyscale · 11/12/2024 11:47

Middle of first week on 5mg and I'm bloody hungry and thinking about food a lot. I'm not even depriving myself but it doesn't feel like it's having any effect at the moment.

fubard · 11/12/2024 12:07

W4D5 and took golden dose last Thursday, weighed myself this morning and I'm stuck at 15st 4 and have been here since 30th November.
I have had a couple of nights out but still managed food intake really well.
I'm hoping that everyone has a bit of a plateau and hopefully things start dropping again next week.

Ralala · 11/12/2024 12:56

I suspect December is our hardest month given all the extra drinks and food events they can’t be avoided really. We are half way through!!

I've only had hunger pangs since being on 5mg!

Finally weighed in and am down another kilogram (2lbs) from last week. That's 5.5kgs (12lbs) in 5 weeks, which I'm really happy about.

NSV!

  • my feet have stopped aching
  • my clothes are a bit looser & more comfortable
  • I am not buying coffee or treats on my commute, saving ££

Is anyone else doing this from the "properly into menopause" state? One of the biggest shocks for me (along with the weight gain) was the change in body shape - EVERYTHING went on around my waist and torso. I went from an hourglass to an apple in less than a year. At the end of this I may be what Trinny & Susannah might have called a "slim brick," but I'll take it!

Pumpkinforever · 11/12/2024 14:54

@RayonSunrise thats I how balance the cost of my MJ pen 😂 I am spending less on coffees, treats and alcohol.

I am on MJ and HRT patches. I just want a lighter me in 6 months or so.

Oh yes, I am ‘properly in the menopause state’. Not so much ‘slim brick’ as just ‘brick’ 😂

I took my first 5mg jab today. I have lost 6lb in the first month which isnt masses but as I am short it makes a difference and certainly more than I managed alone. I think I have lost an inch around my waist and hips however I always doubt how consistently I measure but some trousers do feel less tight. It means that I am on track to have lost just over a stone this year, I was trying hard before MJ but losses were so very slow.

As far as DH knows this is week 1. I did the first month under the radar to see if I thought it was for me rather than have a big conversation about it (our finances are relatively transparent). 6 months of MJ is now allowed for in the household budget. He is supportive and is reassured by it being NHS approved albeit not accessible to me via GP.

I am definitely eating less, no snacks, no seconds, lost the taste for sweet things apart from day 6 the last 2 weeks when suppression wore off. I have had a couple of cans of cider at the weekend but no wine- just less appealing than it was. It does feel strange that food is not on my mind so much and if this is how normal slim people are naturally then lucky them!

I have minor side effects but nothing too bad. I seem to be shedding hair but that could be just hormones anyway as I am deep in perimenopause or possibly through the other side. I had an ablation so cannot actually tell since no periods for 9 years now.

So yes!!! In about 18 months I put on about a stone and a half and all around my middle! So same thing - transformed into an apple. And I couldn’t shift more than half a stone (and when I got frustrated at how slow and hard it was I put on more than I had lost). It was like something broke the second I turned 50!?!!!! I am aiming at the weight I was about 10 years ago, which is a bit less than I have been for most of the last 20 odd years. But not far off.

@Kialla https://apple.news/AOfT1kXNtQoyepLeNJLg3VA in BBC Science Focus magazine. Talks about stress eating linking it with unhealthy choices as a quick fix. Some mindfulness and behaviour adaptations can help.

I’m definitely saving on snacks! I’m quite shocked how full the snack basket was just before the shop came. Clearly I’ve been eating all of them previously.

Pumpkinforever · 11/12/2024 16:05

@TeenLifeMum just looking at my online bank statement I can see I am spending less in cafes etc. And I have had the same packet of biscuits trying to tempt me for the past 6 weeks, they have remained unopened! I always blamed DH for polishing off the biscuits but it’s evidently not him it was me.

KeepCalmandGiveItaGo · 11/12/2024 16:41

Hello lovely jabbers!

Well done on all your lovely losses and journeys forward, I hope you’re all doing ok in these mad weeks run up to Christmas.

Sorry I’ve been off a while, has been a bit urrgh with little ones sick. Sleepless (and stressful) nights, eaten rather a lot of rubbish and bread this week 😬 need to be eating the good stuff again.

Due to jab tonight (6th) debating whether to go straight to 5mg as suppression so non existent. Or maybe the 3.75 will be enough for it to re-appear. Decisions, decisions…

Novjaro · 11/12/2024 16:52

The 5mg has floored me the last 10 days - eggy burps, explosive 💩 and generally feeling rubbish to the point that last night I thought I’m going to have to stop. I might just stick to 2.5 for a while and see if I can still lose weight but I can’t carry on feeling like this.

The ‘full clearout’ does mean I’ve dropped more weight, albeit temporarily - I’m now 15lb off - but there’s still a hell of a long way to go!

JJDogmum · 11/12/2024 17:12

Hi,
I started on 26th Nov. First week had good appetite suppression and quietening of food noise (which was amazing!!). Only side effects were very mild queasiness intermittently.
Second week the side effects hit me like a truck. Increased nausea, vomited on day 2 and day 6, diarrhoea for 24 hours on day 6 and horrendous bloating. Consequently I ate very little and seriously questioned what had done to myself 😫I also lost 12lbs which was way too much, mostly water no doubt and not a loss I’m comfortable with.

So I haven’t taken a third dose (was due yesterday) as a pushing it to the end of the week where it’s more convenient. I’m feeling so much better today, back to how I felt on week one. Eating more but still not really interested in snacking or eating chocolate (which is a huge change!)

I found the suppression a bit too much as want to eat about 1400 calories daily and so I’m going to micro dose 1.25mgs ( very helpful info from others on here regarding this). Hopefully this will also minimise the side effects.

I had sworn I wasn’t taking another dose on Tuesday but hope a micro dose will suit me better.

Good luck on your journeys, this community is fantastic support!

Ralala · 11/12/2024 17:53

i have gone back down to 2.5mg. Might do 45 clicks for 3.75mg but will see how I feel come the weekend

LilyRose88 · 11/12/2024 18:01

@RayonSunrise I am way past the menopause and like you became an apple shape during menopause and have stayed that way ever since. I was a bit disheartened yesterday when I tried on a size 14 skirt in M&S and it wouldn't do up, despite me having lost 11lbs. I have come to the conclusion that I will never have a small waist again, and decided that as long as I lose the fat around my mid-section, I will be happy to be a slim rectangle 😂

I too, am shedding a lot of hair!

Not only that but my naturally curly, bouncy hair has become straighter and is flatter as a result.

I want my stomach to be flatter not my hair!

I suspect I’m definitely hitting peri-menopause - I put on 2 stone in a year and majority of it on my tummy / middle. Very frustrating! I’ve been heavier before but it was more much more evenly distributed. Shocking really!

Caplin · 11/12/2024 18:45

Just taken my first 5mg today, so fingers crossed it is all fine. I didn’t get much side effects so far, so hopeful I’m one of the ones who just sail through!

I’ve had a super stressful week plus 4 nights out, so wasn’t expecting much, but dropped 3lbs! Probably the stress as I was forgetting to eat. But not eating or drinking enough water has left me feeling mildly nauseous, so looking forward to being less chaotic and eating more carefully.

SW 18st 12.7lbs
CW 17st 8.5lbs

Clothes are feeling looser and some of the aches and pains are less. I can see the difference in a photo I took, but most people haven’t noticed yet.

Demjay · 11/12/2024 18:56

I just ordered my third pen and ordered 5mg again. Has anyone gone up to 7.5? I’m too scared as I’ve had such bad side effects
