@smarty4 have you calculated your TDEE? Normally that minus 500 per day should give you approx 1lb per week loss (overall achieving approx 3000 a week). MJ should make it easier to manage portions and snacking but still need to get overall deficit to achieve the weight loss as I understand it

Pepperama · 08/12/2024 22:06

Thanks everyone. I know you’re right and I’m just being impatient. I wonder if how fast you lose depends on the starting weight? I’m in the overweight with risk factors category, and want to lose about a stone and a half, to get me into the normal BMI category.
Of course the minute I moan in here, things finally move again and there was two pounds less on the scales this morning so maybe it was just a week-long plateau.
So it’s week 3 day 5, -7lb.
Luckily I’ve not had bruises yet, I inject in my tummy fat.

Pepperama · 08/12/2024 22:07

Oh interesting, what’s a TDEE?

smarty4 · 08/12/2024 22:26

@Whattodowithaminute thank you. I have and it's 1800 a day based on the James smith calculator. I think I need to be a bit more stricter and ensure I am counting everything.

TeenLifeMum · 08/12/2024 22:40

Week 4 jab done and I’m a pro, did it standing up in the kitchen with minimal thought.

sw - 12st 9lbs
cw - 11st 7lbs
gw - 10st 4… ish

Definitely feeling more hungry today. I even had a mince pie! Still around 1,300 calories for the day.

N27 · 09/12/2024 05:54

Happy Monday all!

a little disgruntled today that the scales have shot up by 1.6lbs :(

I’ve stuck to my 30 mins exercise a day with a treadmill session Saturday and swimming yesterday.

Admittedly food tracking has been a bit lax over the weekend but didn’t think I’d gone much over calories.

Official 4 week weigh is an 11.5lb loss on my first pen so overall I’m still happy with that. Let’s get back to business on my second pen and see where that leads.

Todays plan:

B:Porridge
L: Soup
D: Out with friend - will research menu online and choose beforehand

🏃‍♀️ 30 min boxing on VR when LO naps

hope everyone else had a great weekend and is set up for a good week! X

Pepperama · 08/12/2024 22:07

Oh interesting, what’s a TDEE?

Total daily energy expenditure, a calculation based on gender, age, current weight, activity levels.
as you lose weight your TDEE will come down (worth regular rechecking) mine on current weight is 2000 ish but will be down to 1600by the time I reach goal weight. I therefore need to be normalising 1600 as my intake to maintain otherwise will put it all back on again.

My weight has fluctuated some weeks but then by the weekly weigh in has gone down. Weighing daily has been helpful for me to see how it isn’t a straight line and to not give up because of it like I normally would have done.

Took my second 5 dose on Saturday morning and the morning nausea is horrid. No side affects really until now. Thinking of ordering a second 5 pen rather than 7.5 because of it.

N27 · 09/12/2024 06:40

@OliviaFlaversham i ordered a second 2.5 pen as I had seen so many people struggle with side effects on 5.

I agree re daily weighing. It had gone up slightly yesterday so I was hoping it would come down for todays weekly weighing in but instead it shot to. I feel less grumpy about it now that I’ve had my coffee and I think I will start to weight daily at home then do a weekly weigh in at Boots - I suspect (or hope) that there may be changes to muscle mass and body fat % going on after all my exercise that isn’t being reflected in the numbers.

Hope your side effects settle down soon x

Remember the 2.5 isn’t meant to give you losses it’s a tiny micro dose to help your body adjust and reduce the risk of bad reactions later.

Invisablepanic · 09/12/2024 07:36

@OliviaFlaversham I've also just done my 2nd 5 mg and I think I'm going to stick with it for the next pen. I've had awful heartburn and fullness this weekend. I also had a latte, which I've been steering clear of and I feel rubbish after.

I'd been debating it, probably because my loss is slow (now at 1st after 6 injections) but actually I've been trying to lose weight for a long time and not managing so a stone is actually great.

Caffeinequeen91 · 09/12/2024 08:24

ShaunaSadeki · 08/12/2024 19:37

Does anyone else bruise after injecting? For the first two I was fine but now I have 3 bruises from my last 3 jabs, the worst one being the one from 3 jabs ago, so a fortnight old now. I wonder if I was super careful for the first two and now I am just like “get in there”.

I had a terrible bruise for W2 but W3 seems okay so far. I wondered what I did wrong for W2!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 09/12/2024 08:43

Morning! Another pound off today, hurray! W4D4. My next goal is to be under 30 BMI - just 1.4lbs to go.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 09/12/2024 08:54

Just found a TDEE calculator and it says my ideal weight is between 110 and 123lbs - that’s 7 stone 12 to 8 stone 11! I was aiming for 9 stone 7. Can’t actually imagine my weight starting with a 7, that’s crazy. Mind you I’ve just remembered that in the original Bridget Jones book, she’s usually 8 stone 12 and gets cross if she hits 9 stone 5. I read it as a teenager and I thought 9 stone was fat then. Oh how the mighty have fallen!

WellyBootsandPuddleSuits · 09/12/2024 09:13

Morning everyone!

W5D1 - first shot of 5mg taken this morning (couldn’t get the extra 2.5mg out and wasn’t farting around with using a different needle to get it, so I took it as a sign to go up!)

SW 16st 7
CW 14st 13
GW 11st ish

That’s another 4lb down and 22lb in 4 weeks - I am fully aware I am one of the lucky ones that responds really well to the injections (for now). My post-alcohol dehydration loss did vanish (as expected!!) and I managed a decent portion of my roast dinner yesterday.

I think week was the first time ever I didn’t comfort eat during my period, which is a massive win for me. And I can now take my jeans off without undoing them, which proves to myself that the weight is actually shifting - apparently my brain doesn’t associate the numbers reducing as proof that it’s working.

Am so close to my next mini-goal - 10kg off (yes I swap between st and kg to make myself feel better!!) and am hoping for a total of 2st off by Christmas.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

TeenLifeMum · 09/12/2024 09:41

1lb on overnight. I ate under 1300 calories but that food was rice (risotto) and mince pie, so type of food really matters. Overall I’ve had good losses so I know this is normal fluctuations.

MounjNewb · 09/12/2024 09:44

Whatsnextforus · 08/12/2024 15:20

I got 0.7 I think - so every so slightly over

Thanks for this - tried it last night and worked a treat. I also got 0.7 out (2.9mg) and topped up to 3.75 with a few clicks from my next pen. All quite simple once you know how.

No new side effects going up, felt similar to how I did with my first 2.5mg shot with the faintest of nausea. Will see how the suppresion goes through the week. No big socials until Saturday so hopefully I can maintain good focus.

RayonSunrise · 09/12/2024 09:49

@WellyBootsandPuddleSuits Morning! I've joined you on the First Day of 5mg train today. Feeling slightly nervous after some of the issues people have run into, but hoping I'll also be lucky!

I've decided to move my dose day one ahead as I've started a work commute on Tuesdays, and I'd rather faff around with needles on Mondays instead. Forgot to weigh myself though, so I'll have to remember tomorrow!

Had an interesting realisation yesterday. My DH is naturally slim, as is his maternal family - alll quite slight in build and never seem to gain weight with age. (Maddening, I know.) Our DD has definitely inherited the slightness gene, and has eaten sparingly even since birth.

So DD and I were out yesterday and she'd quickly eaten a load of pasta for lunch before we went, and she felt awful. It was clear she had a bit of indigestion from eating too much too quickly, and slowly walking around and resting really helped. I suddenly realised that weight loss jabs are giving us what to her happens naturally - a whole-body intolerance to overeating.

She finds that small, regular snacks or mini-meals are better than big meals as they lower her indigestion risk. Might be worth trying for those who are struggling with feeling ill on Monjaro?

jay55 · 09/12/2024 09:50

Morning
Hope everyone is feeling motivated this Monday.
Scales finally started moving by Friday and I'm 1.45kg down for the week, have gone back through my weights and it's actually 6.85kg down in 6 weeks so an average of a kilo a week which makes the two weeks without losses much easier to bear.

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar I can't imagine being the low end of a healthy weight either, and I fully anticipate maintaining somewhere in the overweight zone. Thinking I was fat at 9 stone as a teen is what got me here today.

WeakAsIAm · 09/12/2024 10:05

Morning all congrats on the fab losses; lashing of support for those with stubborn plateaus.

Weigh day today

SW 13st 6lb
CW 12st 0lb
GW 9st 7lb.

Total loss 20lb and 10% of my total starting body weight off. I believe that's considered a health goal.

3 1/2" off my waist as of this morning from starting measurements. Still nobody has noticed or commented on weight loss.

Probably because I'm wearing thick wintery clothes, still freezing all the time.

Continue with the Joe wicks workouts each morning, definitely feel fitter.

Another 4lb off this week W7 D1 today 2nd 5mg last night. Feel a bit meh this morning not quite nausea but no interest in food and sure I can still feel last nights meal still in my stomach 🤢. Katsu curry & rice so it could be the heavy starch.

I'm investing in some fibre supplements today sorry for the TMI but constipation nearly finished me off over the weekend, hoping it's enough to keep me regular.

Still drinking loads of water on the plus side my skin has never looked as good.

TeenLifeMum · 09/12/2024 10:06

ah yes “chunky” Bridget 🙄
I’ll be happy at low 10s. The 9s were for my 20s and 30s. In 2018-2021 I was low 10s and felt genuinely happy with my body. I was wearing loosely fitted size 12s and was even a comfortable 10 in some clothes (A-line due to hips). Currently the half stone to get me to 11.0 feels like a struggle, especially with the timing of Christmas. But slow and steady is fine. We’ll all get there.

WellyBootsandPuddleSuits · 09/12/2024 10:45

@RayonSunrise fingers crossed the step up to 5mg is kind to both of us! I have had any adverse effects on 2.5mg but I am keeping an eye out for any now I’ve gone up a dose.

Interestingly, I’ve just had an email from MedExpress about ordering my next pen - they’ve offered an extra £5 off if I order before December 14th, so that combined with the last pen’s price match will take the cost to under £100 (I’m not planning on moving up unless the suppression is seriously reduced). I wonder if they’re trying to encourage people to order before Christmas to avoid any problems with the post between Christmas and the New Year

BleachedJumper · 09/12/2024 11:14

I know what you mean @WeakAsIAm about wrapping up in the warm baggy jumpers and coats, it is a lot harder to see the weight loss.

Well done to those of you who are exercising as well. I genuinely think I’ve always been in the camp of people who don’t get the dopamine effect from exercise that others rave about. I love walking, but I keep thinking to myself I really do need to start exercising for health/body image but by Christ do I really not want to bother!

I’ve lost 6 stone previously, then put 3 back on. At my lowest, I still wanted to lose another stone, but I was also aware that I was really unhappy with my body. The loose skin, apron belly and crepe paper tits, just horrendous. I met with a surgeon for a tummy tuck/breast lift, which would have been £18k.

I don’t know if I will ever be happy with the way I look.

DarkForces · 09/12/2024 11:22

I feel exactly the same about exercise @BleachedJumper. I wonder if the focus on competition and pain, rather than exercising to feel fit and actually enjoying it in school sports (certainly in the 80s/90s) has hugely damaged my confidence and desire to carry on with it. I love a good tramp through the countryside with the pup but hate doing the same thing again and again. I think that if they'd encouraged us to dance and not cared about being perfect then I might be a lot fitter today. I'm never going to be coordinated or fast enough to do well at sport, get bored easily so I focus on walking and diet instead.

Mounjaropen · 09/12/2024 11:25

WeakAsIAm · 08/12/2024 10:06

@Pepperama

Hi so I took 3.75mg on week 4 using my bonus dose. I had limited suppression by day 5/6 each week and decided I wanted a progression to 5mg.
So far I've taken 3 x 2.5, 2 x 3.75 and 1 x 5mg due to take my second 5mg tonight. Definitely feel the suppression on 5mg again no waining by the end of the week and food noise almost gone now.
Having said that I am tracking everything, I know my weight is about me and the way I eat; I have to change that or once MJ is gone I will be back where I started or worse likely.
I have lost 21lb as per the scales this morning, I'm over the moon. Yes MJ is witchcraft but it's not forever. So I echo PP words take the opportunity to focus on diet and how to develop healthy eating habits.

21lbs is amazing!
