Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

@ThisAmpleFawn just listened ! Really good programme highlighting the importance of eating good food. I’ve had some fatigue at times, probably due to not eating properly due to lack of hunger then snacking instead of decent nutrition. Would encourage everyone on here to listen.

MJDecember24 · 31/12/2024 12:02

Hi everyone, I’ve decided not to continue with WLI (I only did one in the end and a half dose at that) as I’ve had such bad piles this month, my worst ever, so I can’t risk making them worse. Really annoying as I found just 1.25mg was enough to stop me wanting any sugary food even though I’ve been surrounded by it for weeks. So I would’ve loved to carry on but the risk of constipation or diarrhea is too much. I don’t think MJ has aggravated them at all, I felt fine, they’ve just reached the point where I need surgery now. Which I’ve been putting off as it sounds horrendous.

anyway, I’m hoping the pain keeps my diet on track, so once I can walk and exercise again I’ll be trying to stick religiously to a high fibre diet. Otherwise I think I’ll try again in a year when hopefully I’ve recovered from the procedure.

good luck to you all! May 2025 be the year you are happy and healthy in your bodies.

The suppression is definitely waning and I really want some nice food today. I’ve got dose 4 tomorrow and hopefully a bonus dose. Then I’ll definitely be ready for 5mg.Think it’s partly boredom as well and hopefully when I’m back at work and busy, then I’ll be able to focus better.

NonVedoIlMare · 31/12/2024 12:33

Well I weighed myself today and drum roll.

I weigh 84kg. Exactly the same as when I started 3 weeks ago.

To be fair I usually would have put on weight over Christmas but it still is an underwhelming result.

New years resolution is to really focus on my diet. Yesterday for example I drank a cup of thick hot chocolate in a cafe. I thought that would be ok as it was instead of lunch rather than an extra. But I think to have success I will need to eliminate this type of stuff from my diet altogether.

I am going to go up to 5mg as well so hopefully will start to see some results in a couple of weeks.

JunoRoma · 31/12/2024 12:35

@delightfuldaisy19 I'm also hoping that going back to work and getting back into a routine is going to help me. Based on impressions from daily weighing, I suspect I've stayed the same this week, or possibly even gained slightly.

I did a 5th dose from the 2.5mg pen five days ago and I've definitely noticed less efficacy in weeks 4 and 5, particularly with how soon my stomach starts growling with hunger after a meal (eating similar meals to weeks 1-3 when 2.5mg was working well).

I've managed to avoid snacking, but this past week it has not been easy. I've had to move the piles of Christmas chocolate we received out of my sight, whereas a couple of weeks ago I would have felt neutral about them.

I'll be starting a 5mg pen this week but plan to take 3.75mg from it to start with and see how that goes.

OnTheMJ · 31/12/2024 12:46

@ThisAmpleFawn Well done you! Happy for you that you stayed and finally seeing some benefits. Yay to being able to move your fingers - that's a huge NSV (Non-Scale Victory)! Hoping your diarrhoea continues to settle.

@Waffles21 Of course! You're welcome to join the thread 💛

@curlyk456 Mine too starts fading from day 4 or 5. Going up to 5mg soon and hopefully it lasts longer.

@MJDecember24 So sorry to hear this. I hope your surgery goes well and you can make it back to MJ to continue the benefits you've gotten from it. Goodluck to you too and also wish you a wonderful new year x 💛

@NonVedoIlMare Hey, atleast it's not a gain! Hoping for loss next for you.🤞

Congrats on all the losses and NSVs. Hoping for more strength and continued benefits for all of us in the new year!

This is what I did with the 3.75. It seems to have worked well. I'm slowly pushing up to 4 this week.

W4D2 at 2.5mg. Weighed myself, but nearly a full kg on since 20th December. But I have still lost a stone overall. Trying not to let it annoy me. Suppression not nearly as strong.

Away to order 5mg, I'm scared to try this bonus dose thing as I don't understand the clicks or whatever. Hopefully it's here by Sunday. I have a big holiday in February so would love to lose at least another stone.

Happy new year to you all when it comes!

Don't be afraid of using the bonus dose. Most of us use it and all the pens seem to have enough for extra dose inside. It is tricky to do the hard twist but you can use a syringe to extract it.

saltcod · 31/12/2024 15:56

I'm halfway through week 2 so have 2 doses left (+ bonus dose) on 2.5mg. Can already feel that suppression is not as strong though.

Have decided to move from Medexpress to Pharmulous for my 2nd pen as I'm already thinking about maintenance and don't want be caught out when my BMI drops. My starting BMI was 30.5 so I thought it best to be prepared and Medexpress and the stressful and unsuccessful referral codes bunfight meant it was only good value for the first pen!

So far, Pharmulous have been brilliant. I messed up when setting up my account late last night so fired off an email. Received a reply this morning and all sorted. So I'm hopeful that this has been a good move. I wanted a company that would let me stay on MJ permanently if necessary as I have no illusions that I will manage without this support having been overweight and a yo-yo dieter for many years. I'm going through the menopause currently and have gained weight that I just can't lose. I'm hopeful that MJ will sort me out once and for all!

50somethingHRTaddict · 31/12/2024 16:58

Weigh day is actually tomorrow but I am going out tonight so I am going to cheat and stick with today's gain of 1.8lb on my 5th dose

Thank God I am moving to 5mg tomorrow as this last week has been pointless....all willpower and no suppression

@saltcod can you explain more about this? Do Medexpress not allow a maintenance dose? Tbh I haven't thought that far ahead and not sure what I expected about maintenance doses!

BigTightropeWalker · 31/12/2024 18:19

Sorry first paragraph of my post was meant to be bold as it's a quote

From what I've read on here, they'll only prescribe for 2 years after decent BMI reached and I've a feeling I'll be on WLI for longer than that, perhaps permanently.

I jumped now while my BMI is still over 30 because some suppliers seem to refuse to take you on below that. Also Medexpress are only good value if you can get someone to use your referral code. HTH.

BigTightropeWalker · 31/12/2024 19:28

Thanks @saltcod this is very useful intel!

Had my third 2.5 dose yesterday and after 2 weeks of zero side effects, today I’m hit with the worst imaginable fatigue. I literally feel like a zombie. Any tips on how to fight the fatigue?

I had to sleep it off, hit me the end of the second week, but I read fatigue is not a side affect?

Bati · 01/01/2025 08:24

Can I join please.

I started mounjaro the beginning of December, so now into my 5th week.
I noticed on 2.5mg that the last 24hrs didn't work as well.
Main issue so far is constipation so I was a little unsure if I should move upto 5mg but in the end decided to go for it 😊

I have lost 4kg so far, which I am happy about, as I haven't been as strict over Christmas but I haven't eaten like I would normally eat either.
I want to loose 30kg in total - 4kg down, 26kg to go 🤞

Happy new year everyone 🥳🎉

OnTheMJ · 01/01/2025 10:14

@LC4life I believe there's already a January starters thread. It's called "Gearing up for a January start". 😊

What happens is each month has its own thread started by any poster and anyone really is free to join that thread but mainly those who've started or thinking of starting that month. It helps to have a specific thread where you'll find people at the same stage as you. So each subsequent thread of that month (our next december starters thread 2, for example) is mainly the same people continuing on their journey at the same stage still. Hope that makes sense x

Of course, November and January starters are also welcome here of course, including any other month. There's no limit to the threads you can join. The more the merrier!💛

Someone asked about periods before. I’ve had mine now and usually it’s very light, but it’s really heavy this time, and going on much longer than usual. I only did one half dose so it’s surprising the impact it’s had. These really are quite powerful drugs.

ohmyohmy123 · 01/01/2025 12:17

Happy new year everyone.

Can we talk clothing? What brands/clothes do you all wear?

I'm mid forties and want to buy nice clothes each month to reward myself for the weight loss. I will probably buy on vinted and will sell on again as I lose more weight :-)

NavigatingMyLife · 01/01/2025 14:11

@ohmyohmy123 great idea. I’m looking for inspiration too. I’m 52, so a few years older than you & thinking I need to find a new style. Ironically chucked all my size 12s a week before starting this, Had been buying 16s which are now very loose, but think I need a new look. See loads of ideas on instagram but could do with a pointer. Will also look on vinted, but not sure whether to go fast fashion or investment pieces.

I'm loving the wide legged trousers I'm the Curve range from cider. Despite being massively overweight, I still have a waist that goes in, so they tend to accentuate that. I like a tucked in shirt or smart tee-shirt with them. Brogues.

Outside of work, I'm a major slob. Jeans and hoodies all the way!
