Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

Thanks for the video @OnTheMJ I'm going to give that a try.

I think despite me originally being ok with me maintaining this week I think I'm feeling a bit deflated. I've only lost 5lb in two weeks. Which feels so small compared to others weigh loss. :(

In positive news I've just done the weekly food shop and instead of treats etc in for Christmas I've stocked up on protein and veggies.

50somethingHRTaddict · 29/12/2024 11:45

Hi all
Congratulations to all who STS or even managed a loss this week
Took my bonus dose on Wednesday and feel fine, thank goodness.
I am so ready for 5mg pen. I am continually thinking about food and having to work hard to not make bad choices. I weigh daily and am playing the lb off lb on game all week. I am certainly not drinking enough water either
Went to the sales yesterday and bought some smaller size basic tops. They look dreadful at the minute, but hopefully, come Spring, they will fit perfectly. My dream is to get to a comfortable size 12. I started at a very uncomfortable size 18, which now fit comfortably so a bit to go.
Also, I got my hair cut and coloured yesterday. My next appointment is in 9 weeks, and I have set myself a goal of another stone off by then. Currently, I have lost 12.8 lbs, so I am hopefully going to lose first stone by next week.
I certainly need to find some inspiration and motivation soon.

closingtime101 · 29/12/2024 12:05

Finding these days really hard. Just eating so many treat foods 😔don’t know how to get back the resolve I had for the first few weeks of December.

JunoRoma · 29/12/2024 12:45

The acid reflux which emerged in W3 is starting to get annoying now.

I've been managing it with sensible lifestyle choices (avoiding alcohol and rich or spicy food, not eating too late in the evening etc) plus a dose of gaviscon before bed.

Yesterday I ate sensibly all day then went to a bar with family and had one alcoholic drink at 7:30pm (my third drink over the entire Christmas period). I took my bedtime gaviscon as usual but was woken up by heartburn at 2am. 😠

Anley · 29/12/2024 13:57

Had my third 2.5 dose yesterday and after 2 weeks of zero side effects, today I’m hit with the worst imaginable fatigue. I literally feel like a zombie. Any tips on how to fight the fatigue?

curlyk456 · 29/12/2024 15:02

Day 3 and the bloat and trapped gas is bad! I couldn't even stand straight this morning. And last night the sulphur burps had me reeling. Iv got some rennies antacids and rennies deflatine ready.

Still struggling with what to eat as I feel like anything I'm going to eat is going to cause indigestion and gas, really hope this passes as other than that I feel fine.

Anyone else struggling to make dinner for family because Theyr not keen on food themselves? I feel so bad , got to make sure I'm feeding the kiddos !

Luxecalmeetvolupte · 29/12/2024 15:37

Another 2.5lbs off for me this week. Over Christmas, that's a bloody miracle. Total loss 9.5lbs over two weeks. Third 2.5mg jab will be administered later today. If I do well this week I think I'll stay on this dose for a while, I'm able to eat decent meals and just not think about snacking which feels a bit more 'normal'. But will see how I go over the next few days.

SW 16st 6lb
CW 15st 10.5lb
GW 11st

I'm still the same weight as last week too....although I'm not meant to weigh until Wednesday. Im feeling the same way about food - I'm starving today and can't seem to fill myself up...I am eating home made soup and protein though so hopefully it won't have too much detriment to me. I want a mince pie and crisps but I'm not having it because I need this to work!

I'm looking forward to doing my 5mg on Wednesday!

I feel a million times better and am trying to remember That rather than getting disheartened. I've been drinking too much wine too.

I was an 18/20 and uncomfortable but now comfortable 18 too.

2025 is going to be our year!

50somethingHRTaddict · 29/12/2024 18:24

@ohmyohmy123 Well done for not giving into the temptation of mince pies and sticking to healthy options
I have just had a sandwich with white bread....a first in a long time and it was delicious. God knows how much I will way on Wednesday!
Need to get back to calorie counting soon, too
But yes, hopefully, this time next year, we will be skinny Minnie's just worrying about maintaining

Are you sure it is the mounjaro? Obviously it could be but I often feel like that when I am fighting off a virus.

Congratulations on your weight loss. Please don’t be disappointed with 5lbs in 2 weeks. Sensible, sustainable weight loss is 1-2lbs per week usually.
I think the appetite suppression and potential side effects can often mean bigger losses early on which could create high expectations.
Comparison is the thief of joy and you deserve to celebrate your wins.

Just wanted to jump on to see what people are aiming for with their food? Are people going low carb, high fat and protein? Low fat, high carb (e.g slimming world) or what? So much information (and misinformation) around and hard to know what will exacerbate MJ. I'm reading Why We Eat (Too Much), which is fascinating but I'm wary of instigating some of the advice, although it makes perfect sense (full fat meat and dairy for satiety) for fear of a bad stomach or worse. I'm alright on the low carb, low sugar suggestions as I'm not hugely craving those things anyway, other than my chocolate debacle on Christmas Day.

Still, delighted with MJ. Lost another 2 lbs this week (Xmas week!) and it seems just really sensible and relatively effortless.

Compared to pre-Mounjaro, I'm aiming for:

  • more protein
  • more fibre
  • less fat
  • significantly less sugar
OnTheMJ · 29/12/2024 18:59

I'm sorry that some of us are struggling with losses.😔 Remember that 2.5mg is really the starting dose and not everyone loses on it. Some even start losing from 7.5mg, 10mg.

Hopefully by 5mg and once the med builds up in your system, things will kick off properly and the weight will start falling off with a good calorie deficit too, which I'm sure you're already doing so fingers crossed for 5mg. I know it's easier said than done but don't be disheartened, we'll all get there! It's a marathon, not a sprint❤

Im trying to prioritise protein with every meal, and fruit/veg (for the vitamins and fibre). But i am still eating carbs, because i need the energy. So half my plate protein, one quarter veg, then one quarter carbs - but if I'm full up I'll leave the carbs. Quite often for breakfast I'll have porridge with a banana chucked in as that provides protein, slow burning carbs, and fruit all in one bowl.

Im trying to cut out ultra processed food (listened to the audio book, and it made sense to me).

Yeah, I think your approach is basically mine as well. Definitely not cutting curbs completely but yes to leaving them till last. Also a significant reduction in UPF, not through particular design but more because I don't fancy them. The Van Tulleken book also resonated with me, so I'm pleased it's so easy to do on MJ.

NavigatingMyLife · 29/12/2024 20:21

@Anley I’ve had the fatigue too, but interesting @NonVedoIlMare have had a UTI these last few days, so maybe the 2 are linked. On antibiotics but think I also need to prescribe myself some fresh air & get out a bit more.

Hi all,

I've not read through updates since Xmas day. I turned into a food and drink monster. Suppression is the lowest it's been since I started on 10th dec.
Just taken my fourth and final 2.5mg.
However there seems to be quite a lot left in the jab. I have one needle left to use (med express give spares)
Can I use this? I've seen posts about people buying insulin needles but I'm not keen to do this. Bit confused! Do I just use it as normal?
Haven't weighed myself since Xmas eve. Will tomorrow.

@JJDogmum has hit the nail on the head with "Comparison is the thief of joy and you deserve to celebrate your wins."

So true. Celebrate your wins!!

CatRash · 29/12/2024 20:44

I'm not dieting or restricting at all as it's something i want to get away from for good. So I'm just eating what I fancy but making healthy choices (although not all the time! ). I'm just enjoying the ease of not wanting more, not thinking about food, being able to say 'no thank' and actually mean it and just being able to stop when I've had enough.

I've read Chris Van Tulkens book and just finished Tim Spector's Food for Life so feel like I have something to go on when it comes to making food choices.

CatRash · 29/12/2024 20:48

On another note...has anyone's menstrual cycles gone a bit crazy?

My period rocked up about 10 days early, five days after starting MJ, then spotted for a long time afterwards...like over a week later which is unheard of.

Now it seems to have come again, but 13 days early 😵‍💫

I'm usually pretty regular so blaming MJ!

Yes! Mine was crazy! That's reminded me, I forgot to be careful as I'm on an oral contraceptive...better get to the pharmacy tomorrow.

Mine was three weeks late and an utter bastard on arrival!

Slimwannabe · 29/12/2024 23:14

@saj90 I used this today, but had to use pliers to force the pen to turn. Also took extra pressure to inject (I anticipate a gnarly bruise tomorrow!) I have some diabetic needles plus the next pen ready just in case it went wrong.

@OnTheMJ thanks for the video, sadly my hands were not up to the task!

curlyk456 · 29/12/2024 23:43

@CatRash I started my first jab on Thursday and got my period the next day- a week early. I'm always pretty much on time monthly. I asked this question in the main group and researched online but doesn't seem that common.

Have had such bad gas today which I think is also hormonal due to period, thankfully it's gone better now, was in agony this morning
