Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

Thanks @ohmyohmy123 ! I was wondering that too, as the needle on the pen is so tiny, whether the syringe needle would seem daunting - will be giving it a go next week 😄

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 26/12/2024 10:32

It's my 4th injection this evening and our big dinner today. I'm still pretty suppressed and not feeling drawn to all the treats in the house, but am looking forwards to dinner later 😊

Weigh in is tomorrow but so far in 3 weeks I've lost 1 stone 1.4lb which I'm amazed by given that with hyperthyroidism I struggle not to put on weight even when dieting. This feels like magic

Fedupdoc · 26/12/2024 10:36

Yesterday didn’t go too badly but I’m still worried I overate to lose anything. Picked a tiny bit of cinnamon bun. Then dinner I had a bit of turkey, 2 potatoes, a Yorkshire, some veg and 1 pig in blanket. Definitely a smaller portion that I would usually have. No pudding but I did snack on some chocolates. I had been doing well on the sugar front but it is SO HARD to avoid chocolate at Christmas. My husband also filled my stocking with treats (he did this before I started mounjaro) and so now I have all of that to eat at some point

JONSWIFEY · 26/12/2024 10:42

Does anyone else vomit if they eat to much on mounjaro? When I feel to full I get bad tummy ache then vomit.

Yes vomiting (and diarrhoea) is what happened to me this early morning after overeating chocolate.

I'll be trying the 5th dose this Sunday and see how it goes. I also already have insulin syringes on standby incase I can't get it from the pen.

Thanks @LC4life - I presume there is a video on you tube that showed you how this works? Is it just a REALLY HARD twist to release the liquid?

NavigatingMyLife · 26/12/2024 13:52

Does anyone have a link to decent insulin needles for bonus dose, I’m going to try it that way as not good with tools ! I’m sure I saw a post to say avoid Amazon ones, but can’t find it. Thanks all.

Yes it is a really hard twist to unlock the twisty bit (because it locks after the 4th dose) so you can continue twisting it to the no 1, then inject as normal. I think it's doable by teeth or pliers or extra twisting by hand. Will report after I've tried on my next dose.

Just injected! Literally was scared to inject and it was the tiniest prick. However, the injection site (tummy) is feeling a lil painy, is that normal?

My husband injected yday , I thought that was a bad move as it was a foody day. Even though he didn't eat as much as he normally does he keeps burping today and almost like food burps because obviously the gastric emptying has slowed down. Does that sound like a symptom that happens?

What kind of symptoms did ppl first get and when did it start working for you?

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 26/12/2024 14:55

Thanks @OnTheMJ !

@curlyk456 - I got kid of a coldish feeling across the tum at first, but it soon settled down. Apart from feeling nauseous I haven't had any other symptoms. Not even "eggy burps" funnily enough!

UnaLength · 26/12/2024 18:57

Hoping to get some advice please. First dose was on 23rd Dec, nausea subsided but today feel like I've been run over, no energy at all. Also peeing like a racehorse... is this normal?

I did manage some Christmas dinner yesterday but that was about it. No hunger at all today.

OnTheMJ · 26/12/2024 19:15

@UnaLength I've seen a lot of people on other threads mention fatigue so I believe it's normal. I can't say specifically for excessive peeing but I want to believe it's part of the side effects too that vary with different people.x

Is anyone else finding it much harder to stick to a healthy diet today, after relaxing a bit yesterday? Some of you may have seen that last night I ate ALL THE CHOCOLATE whilst watching Gavin and Stacey and subsequently paid for it with some pretty extreme nausea. Went right back onto my usual veg and protein rich intake today but battling food noise and excessive hunger for the first time since beginning 6 weeks ago.

I think its one of these possible explanations:

  • upf really is addictive and my little dalliance with the Roses last night roused the slumbering beast.
  • I ate lots of chocolate and didn't shit my brains out, hence my lizard brain is like 'see its fine. Now get the mince pies, bitch'.
  • jab day is tomorrow and suppression is naturally waning.

Today feels like I'm not on mounjaro. Interesting, and unwelcome, development.

JunoRoma · 26/12/2024 21:35

@PresidentBarklett I would suspect 3 with possibly a bit of 1.
After three days of eating 'festive foods' (even in moderation) I'm actually looking forward to returning tomorrow to my new-normal way of eating (more protein, more fibre, less fat, less sugar).

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 26/12/2024 21:44

What was it about Gavin and Stacey??!! It made us all dive into the chocolate 😂 They have a lot to answer for 😃

I'm plumping (oho!) for comforting familiarity.

I’ve struggled today and have felt hungry. I ate this evening which I haven’t been doing at all and has really panicked me tbh
im injecting tomorrow and suspect it’s worn off. But I’m so frustrated with myself

When you say you ate tonight do you mean you ate something in particular? I too feel like I’ve struggled over the last couple of days. It feels like the rules have changed because it’s Christmas, but it isn’t helpful. Injection day is tomorrow and I’m hoping I can get back on the discipline.

Sorry should have been more clear. I was up until midnight and ate at 11pm. Wouldn’t usually do that as not been hungry at all in the evenings and snacking is definitely a big part of my problem.

that’s exactly if. Feels the rules have changed. Doesn’t help that everyone around me seems to be eating non stop
