Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

Morning fellow jabbers...I hope Santa was good to you all
Just taken 5th dose. I think I got 2.9 mg from it
Lost 0.9lbs this week but have also managed to lose 26cm in a month. Thankfully, mostly from my hips and waist. My dress size is still 18, but now I have the added bonus of being able to breathe in my jeans 🤣🤣

LouisaPesel · 25/12/2024 09:55

Hmm... so I decided to delay dose #3 until 2nd Jan but, despite eating the same as I did during the fortnight I was on MJ, I've put 3lbs on.

So, I'm going to say sod it and indulge in a few After Eights and then jab on Saturday or Sunday when our guests have left.

Merry Christmas 🎄 🎅 ❤️

JunoRoma · 25/12/2024 10:07

@50somethingHRTaddict well done on the shrinking hips and waist. I've had to move to smaller bra hooks and my trousers are a lot looser on my thighs, but sadly not as much coming off my waist yet.

I'll be taking my 5th dose tomorrow evening (pushed it back a day as can't afford any side effects tomorrow).

OnTheMJ · 25/12/2024 10:43

Just came on to say Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy Wednesday to those not celebrating 💛

Congrats to those who've lost more so far and let's keep going, even if you've stalled or gained. We'll all get there💪✨️

Merry Christmas everyone.

I have had 2 does at 2.5, the first week I lost 3.6 kilos but then my period after 6 odd months came, quite heavy, and I’ve only gone back up weight wise which is maddening. Any tips? Have upped my water and will give up my morning almond latte from tomorrow. Feeling a bit dejected. 😞 my weigh in is Sunday morning.

saj90 · 25/12/2024 11:11

Merry Christmas all!
I've decided today that if I want some chocolate and champagne for breakfast, that's ok! I just won't pig out.
Thank you all for the support over the last few weeks.

@CountryVic I was the same period wise. First in months and it was bad. But I am fine this week. So just stick in!

Hello! I took my very first dose yesterday!
I feel a bit sick this morning, was possibly not the best idea doing it in Christmas Eve!
Hopefully will manage a cup of tea soon but really not feeling myself at the moment. ☹️

Look on the bright side - you'll start the New Year several pounds lighter!

Slimwannabe · 25/12/2024 15:24

Merry Christmas everyone!

@LouisaPesel the gain is likely just period bloat/water retention, and your weighday caught you on an upswing. I find weighing every day helps, as it normalises those fluctuations for me and takes the disappointment out of a gain as you know it'll likely come off again the next day.

frogpigdonkey · 25/12/2024 18:49

Merry Christmas all! Came to say that I haven't found MJ to have ruined Christmas at all, quite the opposite. I ate a very satisfying dinner but didnt binge, had a few drinks but not excessive, and don't want to eat all the cheese! I'm so glad I started in December and didn't wait til Jan as I would have seen this as a last hurrah and eaten everything in sight. I'm less than 3 weeks in, 10jbs down and while it doesn't solve everything, for me this is a miracle drug. Hope everyone else is having a great Christmas xx

Same. I ate a slightly larger dinner than I would have normally, but nothing compared to a normal Xmas. I had and enjoyed fruit and yoghurt for breakfast. I'm nicely full now, but may have a glass of red and a couple of Roses with Gavin and Stacey later on. Healthiest Christmas I've ever had, tbh.

MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals · 25/12/2024 20:01

I'm the same @frogpigdonkey, I debated waiting until Jan but took my second jab on Sunday. I lost 5lb in the first week, rather than piling on another half a stone on Xmas week. And today I've had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, about 5 of my hotel chocolate chocs and a few garlic Kiev mini things I've had in. (No Xmas dinner here). I've enjoyed what I've had and am relieved I started when I did. :)

Lola3034 · 25/12/2024 20:17

I also decided to carry on with injections throughout Christmas period too. I don't want to have a setback after all the hard work and money 😉 I've put in. I spent many years overindulging and feeling shit about myself afterwards 🙃 and I am glad this year isn't going to be the same. Also, this year I was the one doing all the cooking so I had an excuse for everyone who questioned me not eating too much. I was just telling everyone that I have been trying and nibbling on bits and pieces while cooking 😀 so I am not hungry any more. If anyone asks about weight loss, I just tell them about shitty blood tests that I had done ie. cholesterol and sugar levels and the urgent need to get it under control 🙃.

frogpigdonkey · 25/12/2024 20:20

Glad to hear others have had similar experiences. My first week suppression was so high I couldn't imagine enjoying a meal! But this week has shown me that I can enjoy the things I love in moderation on MJ (and that it doesn't feel like you are denying yourself) but still lose weight. Makes me hopeful for my longest term journey with 5 stone to lose. I've always been able to lose a stone but then regain it over and over again.

ohmyohmy123 · 25/12/2024 21:55

@50somethingHRTaddict amazing to have lost inches well done! So committed to have taken your 5th dose today too. I'm doing mine in the morning.

I have had a lovely day - ate sensibly, had Xmas pudding and a bit of roulade but no chocolate etc - just don't want it. Feel so much happier to be in control and not wanting to eat everything just for the sake of it.

Excited to see us all in 6 months time!

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 25/12/2024 22:42

I was doing so well.....then put Gavin and Stacey on and ate half a huge bar of Cadbury's mint crisp.

Goodness me, it was great 😂- but back to it tomorrow!!

Yes, me too! I think it was the G&S effect. Lots of chocolate! Feel rough as balls now.

Slimwannabe · 26/12/2024 03:32

My very merry munch did not leave me very merry, just feeling a bit sicky/overly full. Ah well!

Ditto, was due to do second shot Monday evening, but delayed until late last night.
Suppression was still working but it meant I could eat, and enjoy, a modest Christmas dinner with a glass of prosecco and two small glasses of red wine.
My weight has stayed the same for the past three days, which I count as a win.
Overall 7lbs down in 10 days and fingers crossed I will now start losing again

JJDogmum · 26/12/2024 07:39

I definitely ate more than most days yesterday but still my healthiest Xmas.

I had smaller portions of everything on my roast dinner.
Snacky tea - handful of crisps, pick & mix and a few chocolates but normally I would have been eating that stuff all day.
I enjoyed it but didn’t get that usual pull to keep eating until I felt stuffed.

We’re out for lunch today with the in-laws but I’m planning on keeping it light and healthy….

delightfuldaisy19 · 26/12/2024 07:43

Christmas ‘24. Definitely ate more than I have in weeks but far less than I usually do.

I’m doing intermittent fasting so managed to not eat or drink anything until 4.15 when lunch was served. Ate a lovely lunch, half a dessert, 1 glass of wine and 2 cocktails. All good but was probably ruined with all the chocolate I inhaled at 10pm during Gavin and Stacey.

OnTheMJ · 26/12/2024 08:33

Hi all, it seems it was chocolate time yesterday for us. Solidarity!

I already had my jab on Sunday so it's sort of wearing off now 😫 I still didn't have the apetite to go full hog yesterday thankfully so I had a tiny bit of everything. But the chocolate? Binged. I think it was muscle memory...😭🤣 I've been paying for it since 5am today. D&V back and I have no one to blame but my silly self.

Onwards today.

I ate the same food as everyone else at meals (just less of it) and haven't really snacked at all. Had a bit of cheese, a glass of prosecco and a small portion of veggie roast dinner.

End of W4 on 2.5mg:

SW 107kg
CW 98kg
GW 75kg

Have lost 9kg in total including 1kg in the past week, which I'm more than happy with considering I haven't been food logging. I realise there might be a lag in the consequences appearing in the next few days.

My next interim target is 95kg, which will get my BMI under 35.

Hosting family for a buffet lunch today, then I'll inject 5th dose this evening and restart MFP from tomorrow.

ohmyohmy123 · 26/12/2024 10:11

Just had my 5th dose -
Managed to get 0.7ml using an insulin syringe - pleased with that :-). Hopefully my 5mg pen will last til I get paid end of January now 😆😆

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 26/12/2024 10:14

@ohmyohmy123 is that the famed "golden dose" I keep hearing about? 😄

I will have to get myself a syringe and give that a go next week as I don't want to waste any of the wonderdrug

Was it easy to get out?

ohmyohmy123 · 26/12/2024 10:20

@EggyBurpsNotEggyBread yes it's the bonus dose at the end. When I was priming it for the other doses I made sure I only squirted it a bit.

I clicked the pen as far as it would go and then put an insulin syringe in the top and drew it out. Was easy enough. It's a different experience injecting via syringe than the pen but I just put it in and tried not to think about it lol
