Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

I've just taken my 3rd 2.5mg jab a day early.
Been feeling rotten today, so tired. Really hope I'm not like this for the next couple of days. I'm also really bloated today so feeling heavy and sluggish. Had plenty of 'good' days so hopefully this is just an off day. Today was also the first time I wanted chocolate.

NavigatingMyLife · 22/12/2024 21:54

@saj90 I’m a day ahead of you, but likewise the tiredness has got to me today day. But saying that I’ve been on the go all weekend & done loads more than usual. I find it wears off after a day or so then I have plenty of energy.

For those asking about supplements I’m taking Vit C, B, D, cod liver oil, chromium which is also supposed to level blood sugar & psyllium husk. I take this combo regularly but may need to up my psyllium from one to two as without alcohol which acts as a laxative I think I need it to avoid constipation.

LouisaPesel · 23/12/2024 07:16

Hello all - I've not really engaged much on this thread (other than talking about feeling sick on week #2) as work as been rather intense!

Catching up now - what a lovely supportive thread - thanks for starting it @OnTheMJ

I decided not to take jab#3 last Wed as I didn't want to risk nausea over the festive season.

The good news is that the appetite suppression has continued and I've lost a couple more pounds - so 10lbs in total since starting earlier this month!

On the downside, I'm not enjoying food but am going to try some of the recipes lovely @Slimwannabe sent me.

I've got another 20lbs to lose so will jab again on 2nd January. In the meantime, I'm determined not to overeat thus Christmas.

We can do this 💪

WittyLimeBiscuit · 23/12/2024 08:33

End of my first week, due to jab again tonight. Have lost 5.5lb without any major changes.
Am eating less because I'm not hungry, and drinking far less alcohol because it just doesn't appeal in the same way.

I haven't actually given myself a goal, but anything under 200 would be a major result, 182lbs would get my BMI back into a healthy range. Am planning to play it by ear

SW 240lbs
CW 234.5lbs

Good point re laxative properties of alcohol. Had forgotten about that.
Have also had constipation, but prunes are helping. Just need get the quantity right

A quick question, I haven’t started my jab yet as have had a rough week personally (I’ve lost 4lbs but…)

I have always suffered from feeling a bit lightheaded if I don’t eat - is this something that might also happen on M?

If the lightheaded feeling is due to blood sugars then you may find they improve on MJ as it helps balance these. I normally suffer with light headed feelings and sometime hangry and I've had none of that on this

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 23/12/2024 10:05

Today is week 3 day 4 and I hit the stone mark 😊 really pleased with progress so far. I've managed to get into a size 14 pair of trousers, too tight for general comfort but they zipped up. I started as a 16-18 depending on make.

Still a long way to go, but I'm feeling good and am confident it's doable

I'm the same - it's so nice to be free of the rollercoaster.

Having had a 'high' weight reading (showing no weight loss for the week) I decided to check again now my period is finished and I've actually lost almost 5lb since the Saturday before. So that brings me to 11lb loss in just over 4 weeks, without feeling hungry and miserable! I'm so thrilled because it really does feel sustainable, rather than the constant battle with temptation.

Good luck everyone with the Christmas period!

MJDecember24 · 23/12/2024 10:28

I’ve just been into the gym and measured myself there as there’s a 3D body scanner. I prefer to use that as it’s more reliable than weight as an indicator of progress for me. My body fat has gone down one percent - 35 down to 34% so happy with that. My goal is 20%.

Im not eating any differently for my meals (they were always pretty healthy anyway) but have cut the snacking right out, which was a major issue for me as I was always craving sugar. I can’t believe how easily I’m turning down the Christmas treats. Will do another week of the 1.25mg dose after Christmas as I’m keen to keep managing three meals a day and lots of exercise and will move up to 2.5 whenever that stops working.

This is also my experience so far. I think the combination of Mounjaro and drastically reducing my sugar intake has had a stabilising effect on my glucose levels.

Pre-Mounjaro I would often get hangry / irritable / lightheaded if I went too long between meals.
In W1-3 I didn't experience this at all.
W4 (this week) it has happened it a couple of times, which fits with my general experience of finding the medication less effective this week.

JunoRoma · 23/12/2024 11:07

@HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow well done on losing a stone, reaching a milestone like that is a great feeling.

I always hold on to weight just before my period, even gain a pound and then it wooshes down on a 3rd day of my period 🙃.

Hi
I've just ordered my first pen from MedExpress! I'm absolutely bricking it but lost 5 stone 4 years ago, came off all my diabetes and blood pressure medication but over the last two years the weight has just crept up. I have 4 stone to lose but have never been able to get back into the headspace I had before. I've been following loads of threads and will update here!

Good luck, I've found it to be an instant route to the right mindset.

I'm rarely hungry and if I am the things I fancy are healthy and savoury. I don't crave sweet things. I think I'll eat a little Christmas just to taste it but there's no craving anymore. I'm still on the 2.5 and currently planning to stay on it for the next pen unless anything changes significantly

I'm 2 weeks and 4 days in and 1 stone down.

It can't just be calorie deficit, there must be more at play as my normal level to stay the same is 1600 cals or less.

Skint2022 · 23/12/2024 20:36

Thought I’d just do a wee update as I love reading them. I’ve just taken my last 2.5mg dose and have 5mg waiting in the fridge for next week. I definitely feel my suppression isn’t as high now that I’m nearly 4 weeks in so looking forward to starting the 5mg. Only side effects I’ve had are a little morning nausea until I’ve eaten or had water. I had terrible morning sickness during pregnancies and this is nothing compared to that. During week 2 I had a terrible headache to the point I thought I was going to have to stop but then realised it was due to reducing the amount of caffeine I was having. I’ve had a few Christmas events and I’m trying hard to be better but have had a few sweet treats so that’s a bit annoying. Hopefully I don’t do too much damage this week. Delighted with my loss so far though. This is unheard of for me.

Well done! A stone in 3 weeks is amazing. Really hope I manage a stone on weigh day Saturday.

3rd jab was on Saturday. So Week 3 Day 2.

Much hungrier today than usually on day 2. Even had some chocolate. But have done 12500 steps too so maybe that's why.

Fedupdoc · 23/12/2024 23:27

I’m 3 weeks in. Due to jab Friday (last 2.5). I have serious anxiety about weighing myself and so stupidly didn’t at the start. I can tell I have lost as my clothes feel a bit looser but now I’m going to be brave and weigh weekly
I did get a shock standing on the scales today. Thought I had 3 stone to lose but it’s actually just over 4. Really hoping it comes off fairly quickly

what is everyone’s plan over Christmas? I think I will just try to focus on small portions rather than absolute deprevation.
how much are people eating who are having successful losses?

PresidentBarklett · 23/12/2024 23:27

Just a little side effects update. My 3.75 mg background nausea and indigestion seems to have faded now and it all feels pretty good, 3 days post jab.

Did our big Xmas shop today and felt a weird kind of indifferent disgust by the ice cream and desserts. This is literally unheard of for me. The only treat I added to the shop was a box of Roses, for tradition. However, the thought of them is doing nothing for me so whether I'll have one remains to be seen.

I cannot describe how free I feel right now.

Please don't worry about not weighing yourself to begin with is. The main thing is, you feel better! And clothes are looser! It's very easy to get obsessed with what the scales say. But at the end of the day, all of us want is to feel better in ourselves. So well done!

Forgot to say starting weight is 15 stone
wouel like to be 11 stone. Wedding weight was 10 stone and would need a dream, but the idea of losing 5 more stone feels far off

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 23/12/2024 23:46

@PresidentBarklett I'm also focussing on small portions but no deprivation over Xmas. There will be wine, pie and probably the odd bit of chocolate. Getting a head start and losing a stone before Xmas means I can relax a bit as I know I wont do much harm to my goal, and with the MJ my appetite is much reduced so even eating less healthy food occasionally it wont add up to much

I was due to do my second jab yesterday, but am holding off until Christmas night, or Boxing Day morning at latest.
Only my husband knows what I'm doing, and I don't want my much reduced appetite and interest in alcohol to be too obvious.
Have lost 9lbs, so am happy to stall weight loss for a few days to enjoy Christmas
