Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

I'm on W1 D5 and have experienced no suppression yet. Since my first jab, I feel very thirsty all of the time and (as a result of excess fluids?) my scales are showing an increase in weight. Has anyone else experienced this with MJ? Why would this be? I feel so disappointed.

I only decided to start the week before Christmas, hoping for a loss before Christmas, to keep me on track over the festive period.

Any tips or advice gladly accepted.

Didn't have any weight loss for first few days, but it's now started to come down. The lack of background food noise and desire to snack is noticeable. We're all going to react differently, so I would stick with it for a week or two at least

Plumptious1 · 21/12/2024 08:22

Hello all, just checking in. I've done my weekly weigh-in and I'm feeling a bit disappointed as I don't seem to have lost weight this week! I'm not sure why as my appetite suppression has been strong and I've genuinely been so careful, definitely eating significantly less than usual and have cut out almost all snacking. I'm on day 3 of my period so wondering if that's the reason? I don't usually weigh myself regularly so not sure if I fluctuate much during my period usually. A bit discouraging as I was expecting this to be my best week yet 😕

Morning.
SW 13.3.5
CW 12.7
GW 10.10 or maybe more if my face looks too scrawny.
End of week 2, 3.5 lbs off, so 10.5 in 2 weeks. Beyond delighted !

@Annie1919 I’ve been thirsty at times so go with it & drink plenty of water.
@LC4life try not to put too much pressure on yourself to eat the ‘right’ foods. I try & do low carb but I don’t count any grams or calories and I’ve enjoyed eating rice. Just stay away from junk if you can & have smaller portions of tasty good food. Cheesy waffles (chaffles) are good for protein, filling and amazing with cream cheese & tomatoes or bacon if you want a tempting low carb option.

Due to Xmas stuff I’ve had the odd glass of wine this week but drank a quarter of what I would have done previously but really feel it in the morning.

Bought some lovely bits for Xmas to eat knowing I’ll just enjoy one, not all of it.

I have definitely felt more tired with MJ but in a good way. When I’m dieting normally I get a bit wired because I’m hungry & thinking about food, so I don’t sleep well or feel tired. Now I’m lovely & sleepy & relaxed at bedtime & sleep solidly.

My go to jeggings are feeling loose, I can comfortably do my coat up without it feeling like a corset, and my bra strap keeps pinging off ! All great signs.

Happy MJIng everyone this weekend.

Hi,
first time posting on Mumsnet and great to read all your stories, success and advice.

I haven’t got a lot of weight to lose to get to where I want to be, roughly 10kg to take me to 11st (70kg) and have had some success before considering Mounjaro. Have yo yo’d all my life and was really interested in hearing about food noise and how it’s helped to cut that out, reducing the urge to snack and binge. I often have periods of effective will power and can lose weight but find it difficult to maintain. This coupled with a busy job that is often out of hours and unpredictable can easily lead to unhealthy habits and the loathing that comes with it.

I started last night and have experienced some mild nausea but nothing too bad so far. Hoping it can help kick start the next stage of my healthy habit-forming journey particularly regarding my relationship with food. Hoping the lower dose is all I need but will see!

NavigatingMyLife · 21/12/2024 08:49

@Plumptious1 I can see why you’d be disappointed but I’d agree that it’s your period and you’ll probably have a bonus week next week. My weight can fluctuate daily massively so it’s disheartening if you weigh in on a high day. Keep smiling !

Loss of 3.3 kilos

I am super happy because I was away on a girls weekend for 2 nights and had to really watch what I ate and drank, but I did over 17,000 steps each days so I feel like the food and the walking evened out. Felt less in control, eating what I wouldn’t typically but did my best, not over eating and no snacks.

I had half of the cooked breakfast this morning (scrambled eggs, tomato, avo on sourdough) then only water for the rest of the day, aiming for a 24 hour fast to get back on track.

I just did injection number 2 so here’s to another week.

Loving this thread 🥰

It had all been going well until yesterday. I woke up feeling absolutely dreadful. Headache, nausea, tired. I had 2 glasses of wine the night before and it felt like the hangover you get after a proper session.

Anyway I can’t work out if it was indeed a hangover, side effects of the injection from Wednesday, my body craving some bloody food as I don’t think I’ve been eating enough or if I was getting ill (daughter had something similar last week). It lifted by the evening and I ate more yesterday than I have been.

Thankgoodness I feel better today after a good nights sleep.

littlebirdieblu · 21/12/2024 09:18

Morning everyone, hope you are all having a good week. I'm on day 12 and 6lbs down so far, so quite happy with that. I was hoping for bigger losses in the first couple of weeks, but it's still weight off, so all good.

After my Wagamama learning experience, I felt well enough last night to inject my next dose. I was supposed to go up to 5mg but have gone for 3.75 in the hope of titrating up slowly. 2.5mg was starting to lose its efficacy ever so slightly but I desperately did not want horrendous side effects for Xmas.

At present I've got my usual morning-after-jab fuzzy head but nothing more. I'll see how I get on this week and maybe hang around at this dosage if it does the trick.

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 21/12/2024 09:45

Welcome @VickyT85!

@Plumptious1 it is disappointing isnt it, not to see the efforts reflected on the scales. This usually makes me sabotage my diet, but I haven't had that urge as much this week, so I think maybe it helps in other ways too. Hope this week goes well for you (and everyone!)

SW 15st 3lbs

So a 1lb loss this week.

I am keeping to 10k a day where possible, very low carb, high protein, 2 - 3 litres of very weak juice and on Week 3 of C25K... can't think there is more I can do! Maybe increase my food a bit as can only manage 1000 cals a day (still feel sick most of the time)

Am going to delay my jab until tomorrow as I don't want to add to the sicky feeling. But if anyone has read a reason we should keep to the same day I would appreciate any info.

Have a lovely, food-noise-free day everyone 😀

ThisAmpleFawn · 21/12/2024 09:52

Due to jab today, but docs have told me not to as am still having diarrhea 😞. Well done all on all your loses, it's fabulous.

NavigatingMyLife · 21/12/2024 10:08

@delightfuldaisy19 it will be the alcohol. Same experience here, and it messes with sugar levels the following day.

Annie1919 · 21/12/2024 10:58

saj90 · 20/12/2024 23:18

Stick in! Some people don't seem to get suppression until week 2 or even 3. I also had the thirst.
So it's maybe just water that has increased your weight. Water is good so don't stop drinking it. What are you eating meals wise?

@saj90 Thanks, it's good to know it's not just me.

I think my meals are pretty healthy- eg salmon and vegies, I've added in breakfast (I used to fast until lunch)- a small bowl of fruit and fibre as I didn't want to get nauseous and thought the extra fibre may help.

It's defo the snacking that's the problem- I was hoping suppression or lack of food noise might help with that but I haven't felt any suppression and my will power just isn't strong enough around all the pre Xmas treats!😪

I will keep going as I'm desperate for this to work but wondering if I should wait til after Xmas and start afresh?

I would not stop for Christmas, @Annie1919, because if you’re anything like me, you’ll see it as a “last hoorah” and end up eating far more than you would have done, past the point of enjoyment, and gain lots of weight you’ll have to lose afterwards. Be patient if you can (I know it’s hard). I understand your desperation as I feel it too x

littlebirdieblu · 21/12/2024 13:05

My new pen just arrived that I only ordered from ZAVA yesterday morning!! My first pen was Medexpress and it was 4 days. So I'm pleased I switched.

JunoRoma · 21/12/2024 13:53

Week 4 of 2.5mg and the effects are noticeably weaker than in previous weeks. Appetite suppression and lack of food noise can be difficult to quantify, so I'm gauging effect by how soon I feel hungry after breakfast.

I eat the same thing (and amount) for breakfast every day, and this time last week I was starting to notice hunger about 4-5 hours later.

Today is day 3 (so levels should still be high) and I was stomach-rumblingly hungry three hours after breakfast. I haven't changed activity levels.

I'd rather be under-suppressed than over-suppressed over Christmas, so I'm OK with this.

In terms of side effects, I'm still getting heartburn when I lie down, but nothing else. I plan to increase the dose next week.

shrinkingthiswinter · 21/12/2024 15:10

I had a little bit of deep fried cassava as part of my lunch yesterday (I was curious and it would have be rude not to try it). Don’t do this. The eggy burps were something else for the rest of the day.

I’m very motivated and eating only pretty much only fruit and veg and protein. A big difference MJ is making for me is that fatty things like pizza look grim to me instead of delicious. What I desire is raw tofu and a carrot, which is a personality transplant. Am hungry on and off. But feeling and looking so much better that it’s fine, I can put up with it.

shrinkingthiswinter · 21/12/2024 15:13

@EggyBurpsNotEggyBread i wonder if you should go by measurements for a while not weight? You’re probably building muscle doing all that exercise, which is going to give you much better long term weight results as well as health, but might not look as immediately good on the scales?

Anley · 21/12/2024 16:07

I’m a convert. After spending an entire week away convinced that ‘this thing doesn’t work’ I came home for my weighing day (and second jab) to see 8.2lbs difference on the scale and I didn’t even realize it was working!!!!! I know it was mostly water because I also got my period in the middle of the week but OMG.

Just did the second round - this time in the stomach - a bit nervous re: side effects given my first was in the thigh.

toolongiroamedinthenight · 21/12/2024 16:18

Started on Friday the 13th, and have lost 4 pounds in the first week. BMI is 33 and I would like to lose 4 stones. No side effects apart from one day where I felt a bit sick.

Thank you @shrinkingthiswinter you are right, really hoping that it is toning me! Measurements is a good idea x

First week weigh in this morning and I’m so pleased. I hope this carries on for me as I’ve always found dieting really difficult. I have zero want to eat anything so I have to make myself eat dinner. I’ve been having protein shakes at work for lunch and loads of water. Really please to be in the 17’s! 10.2lbs in the first week 😃

JunoRoma · 21/12/2024 19:23

That's a great first week @MaybeMrs

Lola3034 · 21/12/2024 19:55

I usually don't feel the effects on the day of injection, the suppression usually kicks in the following day. It all depends how you react to the weight loss jabs

saj90 · 21/12/2024 20:11

@MaybeMrs well done!!
