Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

Hi 🖐

my pen arrived yesterday, not sure when I should start to be honest as so close to Xmas.

if anyone could give me an idea of what the first week is like I’d appreciate it as my DM is currently in hospital so I’m feeling a bit stressed!

Any advice would be appreciated :)

My 1st week was ok. Immediate appetite suppression so felt nauseous for a day or two. Nornal loo visits but just not hungry and food noise shut down straight away and hasnt come back yet. I feel weirdly calm. Only bad symptom i have had is lightheadedness if i havent eaten for a while. I actually forget or just dont fancy eating! Unimaginable before i took my 1st dose.

No regrets here.

MissPobjoysPonies · 20/12/2024 09:09

Thanks :)

is it best to do nighttime or daytime?

I preferred night time just because by the time I woke up it was working and the new day was the start of the journey 😊

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 20/12/2024 09:14

That's the first 2 weeks complete

SW 14 stone 3.8lb
CW 13 stone 6.4lb
TW 11 stone

11.4lbs lost in a fairly uneventful 2 weeks
I managed 2 Christmas party buffets without over eating and feel pretty good. My clothes feel loser, not down a size yet but much improved.

Hoping to reach a stone by Christmas 😊

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 20/12/2024 09:26

@HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow Wow! That is an amazing loss - well done!

MissPobjoysPonies · 20/12/2024 09:28

Wow

your target and start weight are identical to me!

I’m On HRT so I’m hoping that this doesn’t mess with the mounjaro in anyway.

ive tried every diet, I’ve lost weight, gained weight but never been thin so im hoping that this helps me get healthier. (knee joints, less pressure on my bladder…. All the fun stuff!)

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 20/12/2024 09:48

@MissPobjoysPonies it's nice to have a weight twin 😊 l'm also on HRT and Levothyroxine.

I was at a nice stable weight for years at 11 stone. But in 2022 it started to go up no matter what I did, and continued in 2023.

At the beginning of 2024 I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and started meds, and after 6 months it stabilised but I could lose weight. But on Mounjaro it's felt easy

I'm hoping whilst I'm taking it I'm resetting my idea of portions that might help once I'm back to the 11 stone I want to be 😊

I'm looking forwards to wearing all the nice clothes that don't currently fit 😊

I would say start! I had my first jab last Sunday (15th) and I’m down 8.5 lbs already! Side effects have been very minimal - mostly just being absolutely freezing!

MissPobjoysPonies · 20/12/2024 10:05

Will be starting this weekend, am getting my good foods in today and tomorrow and will start Tomorrow pm or Sunday 🙂

MaybeMrs · 20/12/2024 12:01

@Goinghome20 same for me! Week 1 - total suppression. I wish i had done this much sooner.
@HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow well done on that amazing loss! Bet you are chuffed 😀
@Sensecheck23 we are at a similar stage. Its a great feeling isn't it 😍My first jab was Saturday evening. I'm 9lb down and can't believe how much of a breeze its been. I know it will probably slow down, but it has given me a real boost. I'm aiming for a stone by Christmas day.

Start date 14/12/2024 week 1
SW 18st 9.4lbs
CW 18st 0.4lbs
GW 13st
Ttl Loss 9lbs

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 20/12/2024 12:47

Thanks @MaybeMrs I am really chuffed, fingers crossed it continues
On day 1 of week 3 today and once again really strong suppression and a bit icky after breakfast

My husbands just started too and has done 7lb in 5 days which is incredible.

I'm really pleased we're doing it together so don't have to worry that one person will be snarfling chocolate whilst the other is eating healthy small portions

Slimwannabe · 20/12/2024 13:30

PresidentBarklett · 20/12/2024 05:06

Yes that was exactly what I meant. Horrific reflux, real Christmas Day Evening levels of fullness. Not bothered about the impact on my weight in the short term - its a journey.

Sorry, my post sounds a lot grumpier than intended as well!

Nah, no worries! It's now moved to stomach cramps as it, I assume, slowly wends its way down my digestive tract. Bloody Wagamama!

PresidentBarklett · 20/12/2024 14:54

JunoRoma · 20/12/2024 07:28

I went to Wagamamas a couple of weeks ago. I was very cautious and chose vegetable gyoza and miso soup (no pickles).

I should have been wise like you. I'm in Udon Hell!

saj90 · 20/12/2024 14:55

@PresidentBarklett do you have Buscopan? That helped me yesterday.

Ugh I don't! I bought some in, in anticipation, and then lent it to someone in work and forgot to ask for it back. What a naive foolish rube I was 2 days ago!

JunoRoma · 20/12/2024 15:28

@PresidentBarklett I hope the repercussions finish soon.

This week I've received a fair amount of chocolate, sweets and biscuits from pupils, parents and colleagues.
I'm obviously very grateful for the thought, and thanked each giver. But inwardly I was looking at them thinking it might be nice to try one, but I'll certainly never get through all of that. Such a contrast with my pre-Mounjaro thought processes.
I've shared some of it amongst my team and put away the sealed, longer-life items to share out next term.

@LC4life thank you for replying to my carbs/ fibre question. That makes sense, especially re: the chia seeds. I've been adding a tablespoon of milled flaxseed to my breakfast which I believe has a similar effect.

I've been logging food and drink (on MyFitnessPal) every day for over a month now. It has helped me to make sure I get enough protein and fibre even on days when I don't have much appetite. However, I plan to take a break from food logging for 3-4 days over Christmas, while still sticking to small portions and avoiding high fat / high sugar foods.

I'm liking the Shotsy app so far. It's a bit annoying that Android users can't enter a goal weight, but I like the current estimated level feature.

Annie1919 · 20/12/2024 23:13

I'm on W1 D5 and have experienced no suppression yet. Since my first jab, I feel very thirsty all of the time and (as a result of excess fluids?) my scales are showing an increase in weight. Has anyone else experienced this with MJ? Why would this be? I feel so disappointed.

I only decided to start the week before Christmas, hoping for a loss before Christmas, to keep me on track over the festive period.

Any tips or advice gladly accepted.

Stick in! Some people don't seem to get suppression until week 2 or even 3. I also had the thirst.
So it's maybe just water that has increased your weight. Water is good so don't stop drinking it. What are you eating meals wise?

Ah, a fellow teacher? I shared a present of a big box of Celebrations with my Year 10s today. Last year's me would have eaten the lot on the way home.

Anyone else due to jab Xmas day....I'm torn whether to wait until Boxing Day or just to stick to it. I'm not really bothered if I can't eat much on the day but my family will notice that and I can't be doing with the questions!

I'll be taking the bonus dose from my 2.5 pen so assuming it won't give me any additional side effects than I'm having now.

Sw 18.1.5
Cw 17.4
Gw 11

The day you jab might not make any difference. I had my first jab on Monday and had no side effects other than constipation. But on Thursday I had a Christmas lunch which I knew would be long and boozy.

I didn't eat a massive amount, though it was a bit greasy, and only had a glass of prosseco and two, maybe three glasses of wine over about four hours (definitely not typical, but no one spotted I was avoiding the top ups). Also had loads of water.

To be honest, I really wasn't enjoying the wine, again, definitely not typical, and if I'd been able to escape earlier I would have.

That night I felt awful. Nauseous, a bit crampy and largely dry-retching.

I was fine next morning, but I know that next time I will listen to my body more. Luckily we're having Christmas with my daughter and her fiance and mum-in-law-to-be doesn't drink, so that will make it easy for me to keep it minimal, but in terms of excuses I was also going to say that I was knocked out by one of the winter bugs that's going around and I was still trying to take it easy
