@recklessgran it might be worth trying next week to see if it helps.

Jab 10 done yesterday so far;
3x2.5mg
5x3.75mg
2x5mg.

I did it, for the first time since 2019 I'm under 20st. I'm determined no matter how hard things get in the future I never want to see a weight that starts with a 2 again.

I've had a much better week being on 5mg. I was really hungry on Sunday but I think that's because I jabbed a day early last week but would rather stick with Monday so just had to ride it out as best I could. I have however got a rotten cold and feel like my head weighs a couple of extra pounds on its own!!

Weigh in number 9
SW 21st 9lb
CW 19st 13lb
GW 12st 6lb
2lbs off this week
losses so far; 4, 1, 5, 1, 3, 4, 2, 2, 2
So a total of 24lbs

I'm really hoping to be 2st down by Christmas - 4lb in 2weeks

recklessgran · 10/12/2024 06:51

@WafflingDreamer Bravo! Congratulations on getting into the teens from the twenties. That's an amazing loss in only 9 weeks. I'd love a stone off by Christmas - 4lbs to go here too. I'm unlikely to make it but hoping to have got there by 5th January when I go on holiday again as that was the goal I originally set myself when I started. In view of my being a slow loser on account of my underactive thyroid gland I'm happy with any sustained losses as I've spent years before the miracle that is MJ going up and down the same few pounds.

letshavetea · 10/12/2024 06:59

@recklessgran Sorry you’re feeling like this. It might be worth you doing a review of what you’re eating? 1000 calories is very low indeed (and this is coming from a fellow slow losing hypothyroid person). I track using an app called fat secret (but there are lots of others) because it shows me macros as well as calories.

I find grains, seeds, nuts , pulses as well as protein, fruit and veg are really helpful in staving off those jittery moments and nausea. At least 2l of water also helps massively. The other thing I find is to avoid upfs and really look at the nutrients in everything - for example I only buy Greek yogurt now (Fage 5%) not Greek style which is modified and has less protein!
I hope things improve soon. I remember from your posts that you’re having problems with your GP re record release to your prescriber but is it worth asking for a review of your thyroid control? Other than that I can only suggest seeing a private endocrinologist specialising in thyroid problems if your TSH is within normal range. This is something I’m considering myself - I know it’s another expense!

NearlyNewHip · 10/12/2024 07:11

@recklessgran I crash and burn for two days two days after my jab. I jab on a Friday and on Mondays and Tuesdays I'm knackered, angry, moody, could cry all day. I've kept an eye on it and it really is every week. No idea why...eat the same sort of things and calories each day. I try to manage it by keeping crap tasks in work for those days and leaving any housework/chores and coming straight home and just crashing on the settee x

NearlyNewHip · 10/12/2024 07:13

It's the same feelings I had when I was medicated for anxiety and depression but not sure whether to talk to my GP and sort some drugs out as it's only those two days and Wednesday I'm back to (for me) normal x

recklessgran · 10/12/2024 07:14

@letshavetea yes, I've been teetering on the verge of a private endo for a while. My GP only tests TSH not T4 or T3 and my TSH stays level at around 2.9. Last tested about 6 weeks ago. I think that's too high as when being medicated I think it should be around 1? I'm certain I'm undermedicated as I am only prescribed 75mgs of levo. My last T4 [which was at least a couple of years ago] I only just scraped into the lowest end of the normal parameter at 14 but I'm sure that if medicated your result optimally should be at the high end. I'm not worried about paying as at my age I'm happy to chuck any amount of money at preserving my quality of life. You're right. I think I'll start off by getting full thyroid screening bloods done as I suspect they won't be optimal and I'll take it from there. .

recklessgran · 10/12/2024 07:22

@NearlyNewHip I'm sorry you've been having this too - it really is crippling and for me hits within a few hours. I just start yawning and feel so knackered I can't function or even think straight. This is unheard of for me as I'm always really energetic and efficient if you know what I mean. After about 36 hours during which I'm mainly asleep I'm back to my normal self. It's really strange and most disconcerting. It is getting in the way of real life though so I do need to try to find a solution as I really really don't want to have to give up MJ.

NearlyNewHip · 10/12/2024 07:28

I'm at a loss, don't want to give up and as I'm single, I can sort of rearrange my days and try to go with it. But I have no underlying illnesses, except osteoarthritis and being fat (had all bloods done when they diagnosed the hip thing)... might talk to my GP and try the happy pills for another course to see if they even things out x

Losingthetimber · 10/12/2024 07:41

I can report, 3rd day after taking first 7,5, and no ill side effects, in fact if anything I feel fantastic. Loads of energy. I injected into my thigh for the first time this week, and I do wonder if there is something in that in terms of lessening side effects. I also can eat, but have had the most suppression I’ve ever had, food now doesn’t even pass my mind, but I eat at the right times as I know how important it is, so it seems to have hit the perfect spot as I was using a lot of will power before.

im also going to try insulin needle into my tummy for the bonus dose, as I couldn’t do it last week at all,but was into my thigh, I also don’t have fat thighs, my belly/boobs/arms are the issue, so it felt a little worse as I was grabbing some thigh flesh and trying to convince myself to do it and just couldn’t.

i wonder if those struggling could maybe try their thighs if they haven’t already, as well as make sure to eat low fat, low carb. And enough of it, with plenty of water, for the day before the jab and for a couple of days after.

edit, also take a probiotic every day, which I think also helps.

PolaDeVeboise · 10/12/2024 08:00

I've stalled for the second week, and I'm wondering inow if it's down to my under-active thyroid? Seems to be a theme, no? Tbf, I started in 2nd October, and have lost 17lb, so not complaining, but was hoping to be nearer 2st down by Christmas ☹️ On the plus side, no side effects this week!

MissMarvelMum · 10/12/2024 08:03

I started October 3rd and had a 2/3 week stall but today I’m 2lb down so hoping that’s me moving in the correct way again! Someone linked something (maybe another thread) saying once you lose 10% of your weight, your body ‘resets’ itself and it can take a few weeks to do before you can start losing again. I had lost 11% so almost bang on. Hoping I’m over the stall and keep losing lbs! I’ve lost 24lbs since I started 😊

Carridoesntlivehereanymore · 10/12/2024 08:07

Yesterday was week 9 jab day. After 8 weeks on 2.5mg I'd just started feeling hungry over the last few days, so decided it was 3.75mg time. I took the fourth dose from the 2.5mg pen, then had to close it all up to battle with the hard twist which I managed. The clicks were quite indistinct but I got to about 30 and then had to redo the whole procedure for a second jab. I wish I'd taken someone's advice and used a permanent marker to mark halfway before hard twisting, I will for further pens. But I may well go down the syringe route as I don't want to be messing around with 'about 30 clicks' with the higher strength doses.

Only 1½lbs lost this week but my official weigh-in weight is now 13st 13¼lbs so, finally, into the 13s!! Unless the slightly increased dose works wonders, I'm hoping to crack the 2 stone mark by new year.

Missreginafalange · 10/12/2024 08:16

Weigh in 7 for me this morning and I've lost 2 poiunds, that's now 24 pounds in total. Hoping to get to the 2 stone mark by Christmas. People have started to notice the weightloss and when putting make up on for work this morning I can see I have less chins now 😀

SW 15.6
CW 13.10
GW 11 ish
I am 5'7

Going to jab this evening and have another 5mg pen waiting as have found good suppression and a few side effects so no rush to move up to 7.5 yet.

Hope everyone is doing well!

letshavetea · 10/12/2024 09:33

@recklessgran that’s interesting about your TSH level. Mine is 2.34 and I still have symptoms. I’m going to get my bloods done too in the new year including all the thyroid tests which they won’t do on the NHS (t3, t4) annd free thyroxine which I haven’t had done since diagnosis and take it from there.

ItsMintUpNorth · 10/12/2024 09:49

Ended up just going for the 7.5mg last night as my DP wasn't around and I couldn't do the hard twist on my 5mg myself!

Week 10? Weigh in and I've stayed the same (although weekly avg I'm down 1lb) so probably for the best going up to 7.5 anyway, although I did have two 3 course meals over the weekend and lots of booze so that will also be to blame...
SW: 17st 4
CW: 16st 2
GW: 11st 4

Definitely losing slower than others but it's so strange not feeling like I want to give up and still feeling so hopeful after 10 weeks.

No ill effects from 7.5mg yet so hoping it stays that way, well done to everyone for all the recent great losses!

recklessgran · 10/12/2024 11:13

@PolaDeVeboise yes, it's definitely a thing. There are a few of us here who are hypothyroid with very slow losses. I'm delighted myself with any sustained loss even though I have to stick to very low calories to achieve it. I 'm chuffed for everybody who's having MJ success and find the chat and support on here really helpful and reassuring. There is also a slow losers thread which I've read occasionally but haven't posted on yet. Let's all just keep going!

Iwouldratherbesinging · 10/12/2024 11:13

Weigh in number 8 today, 2lbs down, total lost 20.3lbs, I’m very happy with that.
Took my first 7.5mg yesterday so excited to see what this month brings.
still fighting constantly with constipation, I took two psyllium husk capsules daily and they had no effect, tried doubling up with the magnesium citrate, again nothing. I eat plenty of veg and drink loads. I was prone to constipation before MJ. I may try lactulose next but I think I need to take dulcoease daily, I just want to be ‘regular’ again 😢
@WafflingDreamer thats amazing! You’ll smash those 4lbs in 2 weeks.

@letshavetea & @recklessgran, I’m the opposite as I have undetectable TSH, slightly raised ft3 & low ft4, I’m overactive, but classed as subclinical, side effect is supposed to be weight loss! The only side effect I didn’t get, I have a small goitre, overheat all the time and prone to shaking. I just have to be monitored. The joys of the thyroid gland!
Hope you get sorted

recklessgran · 10/12/2024 11:14

@letshavetea ooh yes, let's do it in the New Year then we can compare notes!

EVK · 10/12/2024 11:15

@recklessgran Coukd we’ll be low blood sugar levels - try and up your complex carbs a bit - brown rice, loads of veg. Quinoa etc.
i think going to give the B12 a go as my sleep is useless ! Has been since chemo and menopause! What brand are you all using ?

im still on 2.5mg and its strong enough for me. I’m week 9 and zero appetite to speak of and zero cravings. Not wiped out though? I think low blood sugar could well be your problem. Xx

recklessgran · 10/12/2024 11:26

@EVK I've ordered Better You B12 apricot flavoured spray from Amazon so I'll see how that goes - also hoping for better sleep with that. Incidentally it was radio that killed my thyroid gland and wrecked my ability to sleep after my onc. having concerns about BC spreading up to my clavicle..........so grateful to be here 6 years down the line!
Yes, I think you're right about low blood sugar being responsible for wiping me out. I'm really a carb avoider and mainly eating keto fashion apart from the odd slice of toast.

Do you drink a very large glass of water with the psyllium? I drink a litre with it. As psyllium can do one of two things, not enough water with it and it bungs you up, like taking Imodium. And with water, it keeps you regular.

I take a dextrose glucose tablet if I think my blood sugar is low, and it sorts it out.

Fizzleawayy · 10/12/2024 12:27

@recklessgran I also ordered that B12 spray. Get my proper one from the GP on Monday.

So far I haven’t felt too tired but I probably eat my share of chocolate still. Every day or every other day I have a small bar such as a curly Wurly, fudge bar, ripple. I have it within my calories.

WafflingDreamer · 10/12/2024 12:43

IQ doctor have advised ordering my next pen early although my pen won't actually be done until early Jan. I'll have to wait until I get paid anyway but planning ahead.

I've just done jab number 10 which was my second 5mg injection. I have a 5mg pen in the fridge to start next week so including the bonus dose I'll have done 7x5mg by the time that's finished (including bonus dose)

Would most people recommend ordering 7.5mg and counting the clicks if I don't feel I need to go up to 7.5mg? If I needed to increase the dose I would probably do a bridging dose of 6.25mg for at least a month as I still have lots to lose.

I'm torn as I don't want to have another 5mg pen (which would last me until mid Feb) and then struggle wishing I could have gone up but I also don't want to pay more for a 7.5mg and then count the clicks and end up wasting medication as its so expensive!
