Congratulations to all you losers 😂🎉🙌🏻 hope you’re all surviving this crazy wind!

I’m now on week 9, did my bonus dose - no problem but did need a pair of pilers for the hard twist! Was hard to count clicks as couldn’t really hear or feel them but as it was a 2.5mg pen I wasn’t worried about how much I’d had. That could be a very different story with a 5mg pen, when you’re not taking the full dose each week; as they’ll be a lot more left. Perhaps that’s when you need a syringe if you choose to use the bonus dose so you can measure it out?! I’d be wary of that one (which actually makes the 5mg pen more expensive than the 2.5mg as not using the 5th dose!) I hadn’t thought about that before. I’ve managed to lose 2lbs in week 8 (still on the 2.5mg) suppression feels mild but I’m still finding it really easy to say no to all snacks, alcohol and eat smaller meals - this makes me realise that it’s still a dose which is having a positive influence on my eating.
Although I thought I was slowing down with weight loss, that’s a good loss for me. I ordered a 5mg pen for week 10 but I now think I’ll be sticking with the lower dose as I’m losing and no side effects anymore. Why upset the apple cart! It’s very tempting to go higher in the hope that I’ll lose more but as many of you have testified it’s not always the case that going up a dose means that you actually do lose any more. I’m 5.2 and now weigh 9 stone 10 3/4. GW is about 9 stone (au used to be 8 stone 2 as a good weight for most of my 20’s- 30’s) I’m now 56 (or will be in the 19th)

Im back in jeans that I haven’t been able to wear for about 3years ! That feels great. People have started telling me not to lose any more weight! I find this a funny one - is it because they genuinely feel that or is it because it somehow makes them feel insecure? I don’t know? I’m still teetering on the edge of overweight/healthy weight borderline! One good friend (who is very competitive; since my weight loss journey has really gone for it on the fast 800 diet - so kudos to her as she’s losing weight ) but keeps telling me we can’t be the weight we were 10 years ago but my response is ‘why not?’ My mother has always been slim and is now 79 and just as slim as she was in her 40’s!

It’s really interesting the stories and folk lore that grow around weight gain and loss! Anyway - those are my Sunday morning musings !

NearlyNewHip · 08/12/2024 10:01

I think its strange when people start saying not much to lose now, be careful you don't lose to much....most of them are a size 10 themselves. I think a lot of it is insecurity. You need to find that one friend or family member who can be brutally honest, without an agenda. For me it's my younger sister x She came to stay with me for a week a few months back and donated half my clothes....we were in stitches, a little drunk, with me trying on each item and her screaming you're 47 I can see your knickers when you lift your arms!!! And she told me to start saving for a neck lift 😂

Mysticmaiden2024 · 08/12/2024 10:12

@EVK Birthday Twin! Mine is 19th December too 😁🥳🎂 hoping to have lost a stone by then, I'm not far of it now.

MontyJinks · 08/12/2024 10:17

Feeling a bit meh today 😔 8 weeks in:

Finally told my DH, responses included 'can't you just eat less' (no) 🙄 and 'I'm not paying for it' (correct, you are not)

Have stayed same weight for last 3 weeks

Despite having regular periods for 35 years, this month's is over a week late with no sign (definitely no chance of pregnancy, quite possibly start of menopause?)

As others have stated though, without MJ I would have just given up at this point, so putting my plan here for accountability, I'm going to:

  • start tracking again as this has gone out of the window
  • 2.5 was obviously working well, but now it is not, so have just jabbed my first 5mg
  • up my protein, fibre and exercise levels
  • allow myself a small cry, then give myself a bloody good taking to! 💪
Mysticmaiden2024 · 08/12/2024 10:24

@MontyJinks going up to 5mg should help, I went up after my bonus dose but I wasn't getting much appetite suppression after 3 weeks on 2.5mg, only few days after injecting. Weight loss has been regular and consistent on 5mg, I also feel full all week so will stay on it for another pen. Good luck 😊

EVK · 08/12/2024 11:22

@Mysticmaiden2024 Birthdsy twin🎄🎉💃🏻 how lovely. A stone by your birthday will amazing. I’m hoping to be a couple of pounds lighter by then too. @NearlyNewHip - my son said ‘it’s ok mum, if you start looking old because of weight loss just get a face lift 🤣😅 ! Better start saving !

rockingbird · 08/12/2024 13:33

Hello all, I hope the weather isn't too terrible where you are!! Awful here at the coast
Jab day yesterday so now in week 7!!

Still on 2.5mg and managing OK with side effects (ish).

SW: 11.13
CW: 10.0

Total loss is a whopping 1stone 13lb 😬
I'm so paranoid I'm losing weight at such a fast rate! I'm eating and tracking calories - need to drink more water!! Didn't step on the scales last week as I was sure I'd gained after the long weekend feast which made me feel so sick.. god knows why I'd did that to myself. I'd obviously lost and a considerable amount it would appear but for some reason I'm not feeling any different 🤷🏼‍♀️

rockingbird · 08/12/2024 13:36

Just add .. I've had to give up my beloved flat white coffees - sometimes I'd have 3/4 a day!! They were making me feel so sick and were obviously too sweet 🤢 I have a fancy coffee machine at home which is now very redundant!

Anyone used IQ doctor?

They are the cheapest at the moment.

Yes I did for my most recent pen and so did my DP, neither of us had any problems although they ask you for the date you plan to start using the pen and seem to send it for just before that day rather than despatch immediately. DP ordered first and realised this so when I ordered mine I just put a date later in the the same week and it got despatched the same day it was approved. They also don't seem to process over a weekend as we both ordered on a Saturday and got an email to say it was being processed at 8.30am Monday.

ItsMintUpNorth · 08/12/2024 16:33

They also asked for a bit more info than Zava did, wanted a photo of ID plus weight when starting each previous pen but not sure how that compares to any other providers.

Yes, I'm using them, I'll be ordering my 3rd pen with them shortly. There's a 23% off code too - DEC23GD9

Tohaveandtohold · 07/12/2024 22:50

I did my bonus dose tonight and I’m not happy. I did the hard twist the same way I did it last month and it worked but when I was administering the dose, it was just jamming then stopped moving. Good thing was that it was close to zero at that point so maybe I got 4.5 or something. I changed the needle but it still didn’t work and I now have bruises. I’ve just left it as that.
As I’m scared of using an insulin needle, I’ll just not bother with bonus dose anymore. I think a previous poster was right that the new pens make doing the bonus dose harder with the hard twist method.

My OH did his first bonus dose this week and we did the hard twist but the pen wouldn’t click or move, we had to use an insulin syringe, so I guess they have changed the pens so we can’t hard twist anymore.

lapuf · 08/12/2024 19:23

My week on 3 after being on 3.75 last week has been ok, suppression still v high so I'm debating what to do.
I'm conscious that Christmas Day is a Wednesday and I love Christmas dinner Blush currently inject on a Sunday evening which works best for me as I'm a big eater at work so need the willpower boost more on Mondays!
So double decision on whether to change days or keep the day and just do a small dose Xmas week Xmas Confused

lapuf · 08/12/2024 19:24

Ps re the hard twist, I didn't attempt it, felt very fancy doing the insulin needle as never done anything remotely medical before Grin

Haha same here. I’ve learnt more about needles in the last 2 months than in my whole 58 years. Not bad considering I always have said I have a needle phobia, just shows what we can do when needs must…..
I am on my 8th week of injections and although ordered 5mg sticking to 2.5mg injections as enough suppression and still a touch of diarrhoea. Can’t believe have now lost 1.5 stone, still have 1 stone to lose but feels like a miracle that this has worked as has been many years since my weight has been this low.

I had a stall for 3 weeks but it's now started moving down again. I've lost 2 lbs this week whereas I hardly lost anything (maybe a pound) in the 3 weeks before

Really great reading everyone's posts. I'm 8 weeks in and have lost 17 pounds, but on levothyroxine. Still really pleased. On 5mgs and have had horrid insomnia for last 2 weeks, had anyone else experienced this? On a side note, was bemused to say the least, to hear on the news that NHS can start to prescribe this... but the wait may be twelve YEARS!!
Keep it up all, this has been a revolution medication and insight to me.

Oh i can maybe offer help with insomnia as I started with this right from 2. 5. Magnesium tablets!!! Thank me later

My husband reaction was "not another gimic you fell for" He pays for it lol as he asked me " will it make you happy, if so I will get it" I must of been a right narky cow

Maybe the insulin needle may not be as bad as I imagined. I don’t know what my worry is anyway, it just seemed so ‘medical’ but maybe I’ll try it with my third pen.

lickycat · 08/12/2024 22:58

Can someone explain the insulin needle thing?

I was planning on using the bonus dose for my 5mg pen next week, as there’s so much left in it after 4 doses! I bought some extra needles and was planning on trying the hard twist thing, but I don’t want it to go wrong and I lose the whole dose!

how do I get the Mj out and into an insulin needle? How big is the needle bit? I’ve never injected myself and can only just about bear the tiny pen needle. Is it much bigger than that? Can anyone link to ones they’ve used?

Thank you.

EVK · 08/12/2024 23:04

@PatchworkSilver i had insomnia too - lasted for the first few weeks and then thankfully subsided. I’ve also been taking magnesium for sleep - long before starting MJ - menopause has seriously affected my sleep - I think maybe magnesium helps but I always wake at least twice every night and have done for several years! On MJ it got up to about 5 times and found going back to sleep really elusive! I’m back to my normal level of disturbed sleep now so hopefully the worst will pass soon for you too.

I get the bonus dose with the insulin needle because I didn’t want to waste the bonus dose by something going wrong with the hard twist.

It’s really easy, you just put the needle through the red bit at the top and draw the liquid out. 0.6ml is a full dose. Obv still use the alcohol wipes to clean it.

I used these needles, they are 8mm… the needles I get with the pens have all been 6mm so only a tiny bit bigger.

You can purchase smaller tips if needed.

Iv used 3 of the below needles and a friend used one I gave her. They have all worked fine.

Thanks for this. I’ve ordered some of those. Does sound much more practical and precise than the hard twist method. I’ll have to get over the needle thing!

I've just made myself feel a little better about my slow weightloss, 15lbs in 8 weeks. I was worried that I was eating too much at 1400 calories a day. Someone somewhere suggested checking your tdee at goal weight. At my goal weight I can eat 1600 calories to maintain and as I'm approaching goal weight (but then I'll be on a higher dose of MJ) I'll prob have to go down to 1100. With 27 kgs to go that's a while away yet. So all on all now feel that my 1400 calories is about right and just under 2 lbs a week off without feeling starving all the time is not so bad x
