Hi everyone,

I know that a form etc for medical advice isn’t usually the best and I’m hesitant on whether I tell my GP or if this is completely normal.
(i guess as it’s so popular right now if someone else has stuck through it, it will give me less fear with these side effects)

I looked into mounjaro a lot before buying, ever forum I could and did try get an app with GP but was impatient and thought i’ll not take one up when it all seemed positive. Bought from recognised pharmacy. As heard some horror stories too!

i took 2.5 for the first time after tea last night so 6ish, within few hours I started getting abnominal cramp pains. Through night woke at 1am with diaherra and was sick. Tried to sleep it off and now woke again with more of the same. I don’t think I could put my body through this again. I had my gallbladder removed this year after birth then ended up in hospital with complications due to blocked bile duct and nearly died so i’m hoping for this not to happen from it! (I sound extreme but it was so traumatic that experience)

I wanted a quick fix after years of binge eating struggling with weight i’m 15st and 5ft6 i wanted to better my health after what happened. I know exercise and calorie deficit but my moods just end up giving up all the time and cycle of never managing to lose it!

has the med reacted badly to me or this is normalish? (2.5 dose first time) less than a day and just worry how long this might last

I think the cancer causing and kidney damaging side effects are going to be swept under the rug and it won't come out properly for decades, because NHS is going to be focusing on how much cheaper it is compared to treating obese people and it will be hailed as a miracle in the short term.

Even things that are known about, like the mesh problems, are still flying under the radar of most.

Especially if people aren’t reporting side effects properly. The NHS will be able to tell everyone that it’s totally safe because people like the OP are asking questions online instead of talking to an HCP.

TheCatterall · 28/10/2024 16:02

@Laks19 ignore the haters and folks who haven’t read your full thread of comments and updates.

How are you feeling now? Hope things have calmed down.

The side effects of obesity are well known, however.

Anti weight loss folk - start your own thread please, then can enjoy each others company. The echo chamber wouldn’t be much fun would it ?

Any positive Mounjaro stories out there?

I signed up via Voy and have my first consultation on Wed ... slightly dubious/terrified now after reading all this.

Have to say I have zero medical issues (and all vital organs!) and am rarely sick or react to anything.

Most of them I would say! Have a look on the Mounjaro Reddit. There are a lot of US people on there who have been on it for quite some time.

DH and I are down a collective 60lbs since start of Sept. He's had zero side effects, I've had a few days of slight gastric discomfort when I started but nothing now.

I’m not going to argue with that and I’m not a rabid anti WLI person. My reservations aren’t for reasons of bitterness, jealousy or anything like that. I’m overweight and I’d really, really like not to be. Maybe in 5 or 10 years I’d happily use WLI. It just concerns me that it’s become a huge industry, almost overnight, and if people aren’t properly reporting side effects they could be ignored or brushed under the carpet. The unknown long term effects concern me, and I don’t think that’s a totally unreasonable worry.

Unreconstituted · 28/10/2024 16:21

Do you really think that medications receive approval "almost overnight"?! And they have already been in use for years.

SunQueen24 · 28/10/2024 17:08

Why are people giving the OP grief? It’s none of your business what she chosen to do with her body or what you think she should do.

It literally says on the packet it can cause D&V. This isn’t some new phenomenon. OP has been unfortunate but not an isolated incident.

It’s ok you don’t need to worry about us, thanks though for your concern. But we are good. no one is asking you to take the drugs, and you can deal with the health issues arising from your weight your own way, none of us are going to be obsessively posting about our concern for your choices.

YSianiFlewog · 28/10/2024 17:28

Hi OP! How are you feeling? What did your GP say?

zaffa · 28/10/2024 19:05

SilenceInside · 28/10/2024 14:51

@Laks19 glad the GP was helpful and that you've got some answers for why you've not been feeling well.

MedExpress and the other online providers don't actually consult your GP, they simply notify them which just means they send off a standard letter. The admin staff at the GP will put that on your NHS record and that's it. The GP doesn't review it or respond in any way.

That's not actually true. My GP received my letter and booked a consultation with the network prescribing pharmacist to discuss it before adding it to my record (I know this because it weirdly booked it as an app for me with a note saying not a real appointment).

My GP was very interested in how well I was doing on the medicine and wanted to understand how it was impacting me overall (I saw him on unrelated business as I don't luckily have any underlying health conditions despite my starting BMI or over 40).

Not every GP is dismissive of anyone trying a prescribed medicine, many are actually very supportive and frustrated that funding means they can't prescribe direct.

I've lost over 5st, been on it since March and can count on one hand the number of days I've experienced any sort of nausea (only side effect).

My whole life has changed - I can't stress enough how much this medicine has saved my life.

SilenceInside · 28/10/2024 19:10

No it isn't. There are plenty of us who have experienced no nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea.

SilenceInside · 28/10/2024 19:14

I meant with the GP!

Dragonflysparkles · 28/10/2024 20:46

I’ve had no side effects. Other than way more energy, better mood, low hunger. I don’t feel sick or have the runs and haven’t done.

however I take a probiotic, and I eat “clean” so close to a low carb diet but low fat, so lean meats, veg, salad, fruit. I don’t add oil, butter etc, I have had pasta, just a small portion, was fine but no bread or potatoes since I started, just don’t feel the want for it, not im abstaining. I made roast chicken tonight, with mash and veg, and I ate some breast and veg, no mash. No skin, which is unheard of for me. For lunch was a ham salad. No dressing. I ger hungry, but I really just eat for fuel and make healthy choices. As it’s just fuel, it is weird.

im totally fine. I think what you eat, not Just how much, is what has a really major impact on you and can lead to the negative side effects on this medicine.

people over eating, or eating heavy food, fatty food, and they seem to have negative side effects. I think you’re forced to learn to eat healthily and make healthy choices.

Laks19 · 28/10/2024 21:49

Thanks for more positive comments. So I’ve never been keen to weigh daily but see people recommend this (pts etc) but in one day i’ve lost 5lb. My GP was supportive as he thinks mainly UTI. I didn’t mention my eating habits the day before but now realise wasn’t wise, paid the consequences and lesson learnt. The abdominal pain is still there but not vomitted for a while now.

I’ve just now to see how it goes, eat clean and for next injection i’ll be making surr that foods lighter the day before etc.

I also had to think a lot before starting mounjaro worried about what it would be years down the line but then seen many comments reassuring how this has been a lot longer (clinical trials) and that being overweight can also cause health complications down the line. I weighed it up a lot and decided to try, and thats the things with meds how someone reacts another person might not!
also the latest new last week was approving this down the line on nhs - as they want to prevent surgery etc

@Laks19 i would recommend joining one of the smaller threads for the month you started taking it in so you are amongst peers going through the same time line as you.

I’m in the late September one and it’s nice seeing sharing the ups and downs and the ‘non scale wins’ (NSW). After 5 weeks I can now wear some rings that I haven’t been able to for over a year. :)

Get Teflon coated to the haters. I spent over a year researching this. Same as I did with HRT, some surgery I’ve had, the micro coil…

For some health reasons and possible benefits I’m willing to take the risk because staying as I am isn’t working.

So when the posters start that are worried, wary or downright wanky (wanted another W word..) about weight loss injections - I imagine my Teflon armour and my inner self doing the Wonder Woman crossed arms pose and any negative stuff just slides off me and disperses. Finished being weird now...

I like the idea of intermittent fasting (for after MJ) but I don’t fecking understand it fully. Sorry to derail thread but @OriginalUsername2 do you know a good source re reading as there’s so much out there ?

I’d skip any books and gurus and go straight to google or ChatGPT with direct questions about the science. If you understand how glucose works and what ketosis is it all makes sense.

The quick and simplified version is that your body will switch from burning sugar to burning the fat sitting on your body if you give it a chance.

14+ hours without any food at all is what I do to guarantee it. I’m sleeping for half of it and then it’s just a matter of not eating breakfast or snacking. Drink water during this time.

It’s about making it a habit to eat two big meals within the other 10 hours a day. You can go harder and choose a few hours a day to graze within.

Fasting also gives your cells a chance to renew and is overall great for your health. When your body isn’t busy digesting food all the time it can do good work on the rest of your body.

Expect to feel weak for a couple of days when you start. Mindset wise know that it’s starting to work when this happens and just rest. If you feel really terrible a crumb of sea salt is supposed to help but I never tried it.

If your stomach rumbles during the fasting times don’t panic. Tell it to shush and use up the fat on your body!

I lost 5 stone I had been trying to shift for years and have kept it off for a good few years now.

I have nothing against the jabs but feel like people could save a lot of money if they can get into the mindset to fast instead.

I really feel like it changed my brain wiring for the better to develop this habit and helped have more confidence when changing other habits. (Every change seems to involve about 3 days of feeling horrible and weird, and then you’re in the “new normal” and it’s fine.)
