Hi everyone,

I know that a form etc for medical advice isn’t usually the best and I’m hesitant on whether I tell my GP or if this is completely normal.
(i guess as it’s so popular right now if someone else has stuck through it, it will give me less fear with these side effects)

I looked into mounjaro a lot before buying, ever forum I could and did try get an app with GP but was impatient and thought i’ll not take one up when it all seemed positive. Bought from recognised pharmacy. As heard some horror stories too!

i took 2.5 for the first time after tea last night so 6ish, within few hours I started getting abnominal cramp pains. Through night woke at 1am with diaherra and was sick. Tried to sleep it off and now woke again with more of the same. I don’t think I could put my body through this again. I had my gallbladder removed this year after birth then ended up in hospital with complications due to blocked bile duct and nearly died so i’m hoping for this not to happen from it! (I sound extreme but it was so traumatic that experience)

I wanted a quick fix after years of binge eating struggling with weight i’m 15st and 5ft6 i wanted to better my health after what happened. I know exercise and calorie deficit but my moods just end up giving up all the time and cycle of never managing to lose it!

has the med reacted badly to me or this is normalish? (2.5 dose first time) less than a day and just worry how long this might last

Sorry to hear you've been so unwell. Did your medical screening questionnaire ask about gallbladder issues? If you've had past concerns with gallbladder, you are often not given mounjaro. Maybe worth asking your prescriber....

NewYorkNewYork24 · 28/10/2024 06:11

I found I couldn’t take a full dose even if the 2.5 as I got really bad nausea, throwing up etc, literally wrote off 2 days. I found taking 3/4 of a dose better (40 clicks) it still made me feel full but without the sickness. Then after 2 weeks go up to the full dose.

the nasty side effects should subside after 24-48 hours. I don’t know anything about gallbladders though.

Myattention · 28/10/2024 06:19

I am almost certain I have read that if you’ve no gallbladder you shouldn’t be taking weight loss injections.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 28/10/2024 06:29

You might just need to ride it out - Google seems to suggest it’s far more common with no gallbladder

I would make an appointment with the GP before you take anymore.

coffeeandteav · 28/10/2024 06:48

Definitely speak to your doctor.

This is not a quick fix though. Yes it helps but it's still a slog. I get two bad days of nausea a week still and you can binge towards the end of the week. Can plateau too.

Time4changeagain · 28/10/2024 06:51

You say “I looked into mounjaro a lot before buying” but then go on to say you “wanted a quick fix” This is concerning because WLI are definitely not the way forward if you feel they are a quick fix. You still have to put the effort in to overhaul your diet etc.

Get in touch with your prescriber ASAP and discuss your symptoms and make sure they are aware of your past problems.

BreatheAndFocus · 28/10/2024 06:52

You’re not supposed to take it if you have no gallbladder. Don’t take any more and seek medical advice.

Jammedchakra · 28/10/2024 06:56

You have a major medical procedure that impacts digestion and you didn’t think to enquire. OP for goodness sake get proper advice. It’s not worth killing yourself for.

My very first thought! I've read this too. You should have been asked this by prescriber I believe. Also, mounjaro is not a quick fix - if that's what you think, you would have had a big shock being on it. It takes a lot of hard work still, it's a tool, a very good tool but you still have to work.

amIloud · 28/10/2024 07:02

You can take it if you have no gallbladder OP, but you need to be mindful that the WLI will make you lose weight and it could be too fast for your body to cope with. I don't have my gallbladder and took ozempic for a period of time but suffered from pains in my gallbladder area and from malnutrition. You need a lot of support when taking it and someone to check in on you.

amIloud · 28/10/2024 07:04

It's more that for those with a gallbladder they are at high risk of gallbladder issues using the WLI.

Laks19 · 28/10/2024 07:04

My wording of quick fix is wrong, as I did read that helps people adjust to better eating habits whilst on it and work needs to be taken once off the medication.

it did ask about if had a gallbladder and I went no as no longer in and also seen that people had done this on forums as I did search no gallbladder and mounjaro,

apologies for wording quick fix, I had just wanted that food noise to stop and thats what it seems to do!

I had seen that with a gallbladder it was more serious ie if have issues with it, and mines being removed thought fine :(

OP posts:
Victoriancat · 28/10/2024 07:07

I don't have a gallbladder and as much as I don't want to be chunky any more I'm not chancing it, just upping the exercise. You'll understand if you've had gallbladder pain how excruciating it is, no weight loss is worth pain like that again for me!

Laks19 · 28/10/2024 07:08

Definitely and before going ahead I looked at no gallbladder removal and from everyone else no issues, I’ve just been unlucky maybe? And gonna speak to a gp today

OP posts:
LoafofSellotape · 28/10/2024 07:09

I know people who have had the same issues, you CAN take it without having a gall bladder.

NotOneOfTheInCrowd · 28/10/2024 07:15

This weight loss shit is going to be the scandal of five years time.

so the Atkins diet and Paul McKenna and Herbalife turned out not to be the fix they claimed to be, but some people made good money selling them, who knew.

And now we’ve moved on to injections where nausea and sickness are seen to be the norm. What could possibly go wrong.

InfoSecInTheCity · 28/10/2024 07:20

BreatheAndFocus · 28/10/2024 06:52

This isn't always the case.

I have no gallbladder and my diabetes nurse and my GP are both fully aware of that and have no concerns. I've also had no negative symptoms and am 8 weeks in.

olympicsrock · 28/10/2024 07:25

Rest up OP, sip rehydration fluids. There is nothing else GO can advise. I suspect they will say not to take any more MJ especially if this is something they have not prescribed .

Did you disclose the GB history to the private provider?

IMustBeInvisible · 28/10/2024 07:29

The problem people have on this Mounjaro is that they're always coming to ask other people for their advice and experience when they have bad side effects instead of going to their prescribing pharmacists. Most of the prescribing pharmacies advise you to speak to them if you have any issues. They're not just there to sell you the injection - use them. Most send you reminder emails often to tell you to report any issues so they can help you and make sure you're okay on the drug. They need to know what you're experiencing and will give you proper medical advice. Your GP too.

TexasHatesWomen · 28/10/2024 07:30

@NotOneOfTheInCrowd its not 'the norm' to suffer side effects at all. Some do, some don't. I agree it's the new bandwagon that people are all jumping on but that's not going to change now baaaaaaa 🐑

Darlinghag · 28/10/2024 08:03

I have no gallbladder and its not impacted me in such a way. Could be do with other parts of that system (liver/pancreas) if you’ve had other problems though. I would speak to the online provider!

Snozzlemaid · 28/10/2024 08:10

You can take it with no gallbladder.

If you do have a gallbladder the weight loss can cause gallstones so if you have history of gallbladder problems it may not be prescribed.
However, with no gallbladder this won't happen so isn't an issue.
I have no gallbladder and have had no bad side effects.

Your symptoms are common when taking MJ, but I would suggest you speak to your prescriber or GP for advice.

Dragonflysparkles · 28/10/2024 08:15

Op, what did you have for your dinner before you took it? If you do it on a full stomach, and maybe one with rich or fatty food it can cause side effects like you mention, so what did you eat just before and after?
