Hi everyone,

I know that a form etc for medical advice isn’t usually the best and I’m hesitant on whether I tell my GP or if this is completely normal.
(i guess as it’s so popular right now if someone else has stuck through it, it will give me less fear with these side effects)

I looked into mounjaro a lot before buying, ever forum I could and did try get an app with GP but was impatient and thought i’ll not take one up when it all seemed positive. Bought from recognised pharmacy. As heard some horror stories too!

i took 2.5 for the first time after tea last night so 6ish, within few hours I started getting abnominal cramp pains. Through night woke at 1am with diaherra and was sick. Tried to sleep it off and now woke again with more of the same. I don’t think I could put my body through this again. I had my gallbladder removed this year after birth then ended up in hospital with complications due to blocked bile duct and nearly died so i’m hoping for this not to happen from it! (I sound extreme but it was so traumatic that experience)

I wanted a quick fix after years of binge eating struggling with weight i’m 15st and 5ft6 i wanted to better my health after what happened. I know exercise and calorie deficit but my moods just end up giving up all the time and cycle of never managing to lose it!

has the med reacted badly to me or this is normalish? (2.5 dose first time) less than a day and just worry how long this might last

@Dragonflysparkles has a point @Laks19

i have taken my dose after a days unadvisable eating (instant noodles, fried snacks etc) and been extremely ill - whereas all other injection days have been fine.

How are you feeling now? Has it calmed down? Fingers crossed. 🤞🏼

Ensure you really are getting enough water/liquids a day. Definitely aim for 2 litres.

Whats your diet like? What do you plan to eat whilst on this for balanced nutrition?

pokinstew · 28/10/2024 08:54

It’s usually fine to take it after gallbladder removal. I did and so have many, many others.

This weight loss shit is going to be the scandal of five years time.

so the Atkins diet and Paul McKenna and Herbalife turned out not to be the fix they claimed to be, but some people made good money selling them, who knew.

And now we’ve moved on to injections where nausea and sickness are seen to be the norm. What could possibly go wrong.

Better mental and physical health
Less diabetes
Less high blood pressure
Less heart disease, heart attacks and stokes.

Some people have nausea and sickness but still weigh the risks and decide the benfits outweigh them.

Many don't have bad side affects at all.

CoastalCalm · 28/10/2024 09:02

Did you have a big ‘last supper’ before starting it maybe ?

To be honest that’s likely the cayse, the doctor will be able to clarify, and get you checked out, but if you overeat then take your first jab people often get the runs and nausea, cramps. Hopefully that’s it,

My wording of quick fix is wrong, as I did read that helps people adjust to better eating habits whilst on it and work needs to be taken once off the medication.

it did ask about if had a gallbladder and I went no as no longer in and also seen that people had done this on forums as I did search no gallbladder and mounjaro,

apologies for wording quick fix, I had just wanted that food noise to stop and thats what it seems to do!

You need to do the work while you are actually ON the medication.
If you don't calorie deficit or exercise then you won't lose weight. It doesn't melt fat!
Generalising, some experience worse side effects when taking MJ with foods that are high fat.
The PP mentions the known increase in nausea for some who have had a gall bladder removal.

InfoSecInTheCity · 28/10/2024 09:26

Oh yeah, @Laks19 the big meal was probably a bad idea.

It's important to know how this medication works because that helps to understand the effects and how to best balance them.

1 - it makes your body more receptive to the insulin it produces. This means you break down glucose more efficiently so it is less likely to cause sugar highs and to be stored as fat.

2 - it slows down your digestion, so that again you have more time for your body to deal with the glucose, this causes you to feel fuller for longer, it can lead to constipation and stomach upset if you don't adapt your diet. You need fibre, water and to reduce greasy foods.

Water is ridiculously important and you will be much more likely to notice constipation, headaches, stomach pains, weightloss platuaeus etc if you aren't drinking enough.

I tend to eat low carb, high protein and lots of green veg, mushrooms and tomatoes. So far (knock on wood) I've had no negative symptoms and consistent weightloss of about 2 lb a week without the gnawing hunger I get without the Mounjaro.

I have a friend who's on it and she barely leaves her sofa and still loses weight because she can only bear to eat a few mouthfuls of things. That's the whole point, it's an appetite suppressant ideal for lazy people who don't want to do any work.

I think the cancer causing and kidney damaging side effects are going to be swept under the rug and it won't come out properly for decades, because NHS is going to be focusing on how much cheaper it is compared to treating obese people and it will be hailed as a miracle in the short term.

Even things that are known about, like the mesh problems, are still flying under the radar of most.

That way you lose muscle mass as well as fat and make weight gain even more likely after you come off the medication. I'm sure some people use it that way, but plenty of us use Mounjaro because it regulates our hormones and brings our hunger and satiety in line so that we can eat regular, nourishing meals and have the energy to work out. That way we can lose fat but maintain as much muscle as possible, build our strength and healthy habits and improve our body composition as well as losing weight to give ourselves the best return on our investment as we can.

Tessasanderson · 28/10/2024 09:37

Wow. People actually inject shit into themselves without getting proper medical advice from their GP first.

For the sake of an appointment what the hell does someone have to gain from this? Are people worried the doctor will say you arent suitable. Surely thats more preferable than the consequences of these type of reactions.

Personally I did speak to my doctor, but doctors are notified anyway and you need to meet certain criteria. Ie be obese. It’s also not shit, it’s being hailed by the scientific community as the biggest healthcare breakthrough in years.

SilenceInside · 28/10/2024 09:45

@Laks19 hopefully you'll get some reassurance at the appointment today and start feeling better soon. I also think that the large meal before starting might be part of the issue.

InfoSecInTheCity · 28/10/2024 10:08

Oh well if you have a friend who's on it @yeaitsmeagain then you must be an expert. Please explain to us exactly what you know about Mounjaro that Doctors and medical licensing organisations don't know and how you came about this information. Do you have any studies or research papers you can direct us to?

IMustBeInvisible · 28/10/2024 10:12

Of course they have a friend - don't they all?
I suppose this so-called lazy 'friend' who doesn't want to do any work also doesn't have a job, is/isn't disabled, has no responsibility, childcare, nothing, to be able to be sitting around all day, barely leaving her sofa and just jabbing and eating a few mouthfuls of things. What a friend.

So many people on Mumsnet will be delighted if this happens. Gleefully crowing over overwight people who tried to improve their health. No other drug gets people
who have no need to take it as angry as Mounjaro does.

Correct, I should have said ex friend, she stole money from my home.

On one of her rare trips from the sofa I assume.

Laks19 · 28/10/2024 11:18

Hi everyone,

I noticed some people commenting saying that it’s lazy way out and that not putting in any work. What I didn’t mention on the form is that for the first timr last week I had a gym induction in my local gym because I had hoped to do gym, and also bought meals lower in calories. Mounjaro isn’t a quick fix from my impression of buying and well it would be silly for me to pay for something then just to go back to old habits, I seen mounjaro is an opportunity to stop food noise whether that was gradually and work alongside the medicine.

I also didn’t get a GP appointment as one of the first steps to approving the prescription they notify my GP. I had also briefly spoke of mounjaro in past to my nominated GP.

i’m hoping it’s more me being an idiot and having that last meal thats caused this and the gallbladder being removed and more likley to cause it!
still in abdominal pain!
it edged me that this isn’t a new drug as I had worried over unknown effects in future, I’m sure I read many comments how long it takes meds to be approved and go through clinical trials.
its also a prescription being approved on nhs soon for weight loss!
