I’ve just started my second month on 5 and I’m thinking it might be a mistake too. I’ve been hungry all day (1st jab from my new pen this evening) so I’m hoping I can get through this month.

I was worried about side effects as I was really ill with severe 💩 last week - not sure if it was MJ or a virus and then the sensitivity kicked off IBS in reaction to the bread I was eating (stopped the bread and the 💩 stopped 🥹). Have also had a period for three weeks which is vile - am in perimenopause and have a coil so it shouldn’t be happening. Could be just hormones or MJ I’ve no clue but didn’t want to up the potential problems with a higher dose. It’s just all guess work really isn’t.

I remember a few of you noted issues with extended periods. Anyone in the same boat please and on what does? TIA x

Timetochange24 · 02/11/2024 07:57

I'm on my 2nd 5ml pen (first dose last week) and it's suddenly started working better which is a bit confusing. I had such strong suppression when I moved to 5 that I could hardly eat - then I put on and lost the same kg for 3 weeks. I wonder if that was either a dodgy pen or my body reacting to going into starvation mode for the first week or so? New pen and I've been consistently going down 0.1 to 0.2 kg a day this week, which was what happened originally. Whatever has been going on I think staying on 5mg was the right decision but I'm glad to be (🤞) back on track now. I think I'll transition up to 7.5 over a couple of weeks to avoid the same overwhelming suppression happening again.

Addictedtobeauty · 02/11/2024 08:35

Conspiracy theory incoming!

I am curious about the number of people who have had a crap response to a 5mg pen after excellent prior suppression and weight loss. I’d be interested to know the batch numbers of the pens they’re not responding to- to see if it’s a bad batch. Too many people are then picking up momentum again when they start a new pen, even if it’s the same strength. It just doesn’t make sense.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/11/2024 08:58

I've said a few times I'm curious to what people eat and how much so I do have a read of the food thread every now and again

I eat 3 meals a day. Sometimes smaller portions but don't really get the stuffed feeling after a cuppa as many write

This can't be good

B - cereal
L - banana pancake
D - protein shake
Snack - a few squares of chocolate.

eeeeeeeee · 02/11/2024 08:59

@Timetochange24 wow I had such a similar experience on 5mg. At first the appetite suppression was super high, like you, but then I ended up gaining some of what I lost and maintaining my weight most of the month. My weight fluctuated between the same 1-2kgs. I ended up losing weight again only once I increased my dose that month. I don’t think it’s a dodgy pen, I think it’s just how our bodies adjusted and responded to Mounjaro. 5mg is the first official strength for weight loss isn’t it

I finished my 7.5mg pen last week, and didn’t really have any extremes - like low/high suppression. It’s been consistent throughout. My weight loss has slowed too. 10mg so far has been fine as well.

@Addictedtobeauty maybe you’re on to something, especially as this group all started at a similar time so are likely buying from the same currently available batches. Unfortunately I haven’t been keeping track of batch numbers to confirm

eeeeeeeee · 02/11/2024 09:09

TMI post, sorry…

Before MJ, sometimes I’d get diarrhoea after eating. It was difficult to narrow down what triggered it.

Since taking MJ I rarely get this; I’m eating a lot less and also generally eating more healthy options. Makes it more easy to narrow down. Yesterday I had the same food I ate on Thursday. The only difference was I put cheese on everything yesterday and didn’t on Thursday. Now I have odd bowel movements and wonder if I’m intolerant to cheese

NippyCrab · 02/11/2024 09:39

@Blondeshavemorefun that looks to me like you aren't eating enough at all. So your body thinks it's in starvation mode and holding onto fat. Can you give more detail? What type of cereal, what milk and what portion size? Free poured or measured? The banana pancakes, have you calculated the portion? And i can't say anything about the protein shake as I had a Huel black edition one for my dinner last night, 400 calories and 35g protein. But I had a huge breakfast and then a lunch at 3pm hence not hungry at dinner.

@eeeeeeeee could you be dairy intolerant? Worth looking into, x

Good morning btw 😊

This is a typical day for me. I log 1200 cals but have 1400 as can't be assed with logging sauces, milk etc

Average 85g protein and 25-30g fibre

@NippyCrab that's not what I eat. That's copied off another thread on what I eat on mj

I meant it's not a lot and can't be healthy

Timetofindme · 02/11/2024 10:47

I've not been on this thread much as I've got a lot to lose so am just taking it steady and trying to ingrain new habits.

The thing I'm still finding the most surprising is the lack of food noise. Is this what it's like for some people?! I'm trying to eat 'normal' meals but be aware of portion sizes, and not snacking but the 'oh i really fancy that' has totally disappeared. Finding my preference is for smoothie for breakfast, some sort of salad for lunch (the idea of heavier stuff makes me feel a bit ick and definitely think bread bloats me as the scale goes up 1lb overnight every time I eat it!) and then a 'normal' dinner.

Onwards and downwards!

Hi. I had a 3 weeks period halfway through my first month on 5mg. Am now at the end of my 2nd month on 5mg and had a normal 4 day period last week.

weaseleyes · 02/11/2024 11:00

Agreed that meal doesn't sound great @Blondeshavemorefun. It's hard to know how many calories are in it, as we don't know the details and portion sizes. It could potentially be anything from 500-1200, and we don't know whether this is a short person or someone taller who needs lots more. But the main thing that strikes me is how there's nothing of much nutritional value in there at all.

I think it's inevitable that a lot of people who have weight issues are going to have disordered ideas about eating, if not eating disorders per se. I certainly do, and have to try to counter them all the time. I've often felt, as a fat person, implicitly judged if I eat a meal in front of people or have dessert in a restaurant. Whether they say anything or not, I'm thinking that they must be saying oh, that's why she's so fat right there, she shouldn't have that. I bet some people on that thread are delighted to have an opportunity to tell people how little they're eating after years of guilt about everything they put in their mouths. I'm sure some of it's true and some of it may be a bit exaggerated.

owlyboo · 02/11/2024 11:00

Morning all.

So weigh in and YAY! I lost 2lbs taking me to officially three stone in total!

Still another stone and a half to go but the end seems in sight! All be it in the distance!!

Arraminta · 02/11/2024 11:03

Noticing that quite a few of us did a second month on 5mg, had decent suppression, ate fewer calories, but weight loss has stalled?

Wondering if just eating fewer calories isn't actually enough for weight loss? Does MJ do other stuff, behind the scenes, to enhance weight loss?

Worrying now that keeping the weight off after stopping MJ isn't going to be easy at all.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/11/2024 11:20

Well done @owlyboo

owlyboo · 02/11/2024 11:31

Thanks @Blondeshavemorefun

I'm genuinely not worried about after MJ @Arraminta. I've never had to lose so much weight and I maintained for years before I gained all this weight. I think if you're determined enough and weigh weekly to ensure you are watching your weight we will be able to maintain. I don't think MJ does anything miraculous. I think our bodies just all lose weight at different times... but I could very much be wrong! But I'd rather be positive about the future and hopefully that'll also help with the mindset of maintaining!

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/11/2024 11:32

I guess you give yourself a 3/7lb buffer

If head towards 7lbs you cut back for a few weeks

Hence why throw away all your clothes that are too big

Or slip back into next larger size and before you know it the 3/4s is gained

owlyboo · 02/11/2024 11:34

Yes @Blondeshavemorefun that's pretty much what I did for years. If I went above my top weight (like you say about 7lb heavier than my normal weight) I would then diet for a few weeks to bring it back down. It worked well for years until Covid/divorce and general giving up hit! So will definitely go with that tactic again! My mom also does the same thing and it's worked will for many years for her.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/11/2024 12:01

Where if I actually did that I wouldn't be in this position

owlyboo · 02/11/2024 12:04

@Blondeshavemorefun I think we can all beat ourselves up and think 'well if it was that easy I wouldn't have got so fat etc.' but we should reframe it to 'I've been fat, I know how horrible it was, how I felt about myself and how it impacted my heath so I'm in a fortunate position now that I'm a healthy weight and I will absolutely not allow myself to go back to where I was.'

AdeloreSmore · 02/11/2024 12:27

FlappingMadly · 02/11/2024 12:43

Found you and you’re on page 30 already 🤣.
I’ll try to catch up. Hope all you lovely peeps are okay.
I’m home after 10 days away with DD. My mum has been poorly so we spent a lot of time visiting her in hospital. I wasn’t aware of over eating but am pretty unhappy to see this morning I’m up a kg. Could it be muscle? I’m hopeful but doubtful. I went to a morning boot camp every day.
Being short and high waisted my stomach sits awkwardly and plane seatbelts and train trays are stressful. But yesterday the Eurostar tray was down with a few cm to spare. Major NSV!
And I now have 4 7.5 pens 🤣. None of them
looked like they would arrive in time for Friday jab day so I ordered elsewhere. And all, note that delivery for VOY, Medexpress and Numon is markedly slower. I was doing 4mg but upped to 5 on Friday. And depending on how I do in the next couple of weeks I might up to 6.

Mum0ntherun · 02/11/2024 12:43

Arraminta · 02/11/2024 10:56

Hi. I had a 3 weeks period halfway through my first month on 5mg. Am now at the end of my 2nd month on 5mg and had a normal 4 day period last week.

I’m hoping for that on this second pen - it’s been miserable at times over the last few weeks. 🤞🏻and I hate thinking about food again but at least I’m not acting on it (most times 😇)!

owlyboo · 02/11/2024 13:24

Sorry to hear your mums been poorly @FlappingMadly

If you've been doing boot camps every day I would definitely say that's attributed to the gain, I always find if I've don't lots of exercise I weigh slightly heavier for a while afterwards. Think my body holds onto water.

And congrats on the NSV! Yay to being comfortable!

I've weirdly started getting the food ick. Some people get. I've had good suppression on all pens but this week I've been getting the 🤢 when cooking food which then makes eating it hard. I push through as obviously you have to eat but weird I've only just started to get it on week two of 7.5! I'm
Hoping it doesn't stick around as I'm not enjoying it!
