Week 9 for me and another pound off. Thats 16 in total now so definitely not as dramatic as some losses but the most I’ve managed to lose in decades.
First injection from the 5mg pen tonight. Think I’ll count 45 clicks as work far too busy to risk side effects. I had minor ones on 2.5, which have pretty much gone so 🤞

Sampler · 22/10/2024 10:23

I lost a grand total of 1lb last week so that’s 3lbs the last 2 weeks after losing a stone the first month - but I believe it’s something to do with ‘the plateau’ as I’ve lost 10% of my body weight quickly. I’m sticking with 2.5mg. I have a 5mg pen but doing 30 clicks every 5 days now. I have decent suppression and I can’t see the point in being too sick to eat by increasing my dosage, especially when my body is adjusting to the weight loss. I’m eating healthy, have a food diary and exercising btw.

@SpottyBumPony I am unsure if going up a dose actually does anything ? If the weight-loss on MJ is due to appetite suppression and ingesting fewer calories then it doesn’t matter how high or low you go ? I have zero medical knowledge and am open to being corrected but I don’t want complete suppression as it fecks up my exercise routine. MJ has no magical weight loss ingredient, so I believe - it’s simply calories in and out ?

ILoveLeopard245 · 22/10/2024 10:34

I’ve got awful diarrhoea today - been up most of the night. Not had any side effects really till now. Week 6 and still on 2.5

SpottyBumPony · 22/10/2024 11:04

@Sampler I think you are right and I just got confused with myself

Choux · 22/10/2024 11:17

Great progress @SpottyBumPony!

I think when deciding on dose you are looking for a dose that doesn't kill your appetite completely so you can still eat enough to get nutrients and energy so you feel well enough to live your life. You also don't want to be getting adverse side effects such as nausea and diarrhoea or even sulfur burps.

But you want the dose to be high enough that you feel you are getting help from it from cravings, hunger etc. Feeling hunger at mealtimes is fine and normal but you should notice you eat less before feeling full etc and can then go to the next meal before feeling hunger again. It should also help you choose healthy food most of the time which is generally lower in calories. That should allow you to have a calorie deficit every day so you continue to lose weight.

Mounjaro isn't effortless - you still have to make the right choices re diet and exercise - but the right dose will support you in making those choices easier to do consistently. And if you think 3.75 is too strong you can always dial back for next week. Good luck!

Sampler · 22/10/2024 11:40

@SpottyBumPony you weren’t confused at all - I’m still confused by the effects MJ is having on my brain, it’s a heady mix of the end of food noise, eating healthily and getting over the shock of doing the latter.

and very well put by Choux who is much more eloquent than me with her explanation.

Does anyone have or know where to find the spreadsheet screenshot with the price comparison for all providers? Thanks!

drowningbutwaving · 22/10/2024 12:41

@LucyBnotG thank you - it's the Miss Mounjaro one I was trying to find. Couldn't remember the name of it for the life of me!

Itisallgoingtobeok · 22/10/2024 13:10

I was wondering if anyone has a bad taste in their mouth from Mounjaro? I'm 7 weeks in and found well, but the taste is horrible and I'm worried about my breath smelling bad!

20bloodypounds · 22/10/2024 13:19

I'm still on 2.5mg but took my 3rd dose from this pen (8th dose in total) a couple of days early. That seems to have done the trick for me, and I'll do similar with the next injections.

Yesterday I was looking after my grandchildren and we took them out for the day. Stopped at a coffee shop and for the first time since the start of September I had a cake. To be fair, I'm more of a crisp girl than a sugar one, so I've not really felt like I'm missing out. It wasn't a huge cake but it gave me a an uncomfortable tummy ache. Nothing huge, but felt like it was just sitting like a lump in my stomach. We went to a tapas restaurant for lunch, which suited my way of eating. dh and dgc ate huge quantitites; I had 2 prawns in garlic, half a piece of bread to mop up the garlic, a couple of spears of asparagus, and two tiny cubes of chicken in chimichurri sauce. Then home-made chicken broth for dinner. I don't think I'll be having more cake anytime soon.

@EBoo80 did you get any reply from Oushk re your injection?

drowningbutwaving · 22/10/2024 14:02

I'm on my third week of 5mg pen - although I took my bonus dose at the same time as the forth dose of my 2.5mg - and I'm thinking about going back down to 2.5mg next pen. This week I've been struggling to eat much and feeling quite sick through the day. Also having episodes of acid reflux. My suppression on 2.5mg wasn't 100% but it was manageable and I feel like that might be better to help me develop better habits for once I come off the medication. Just don't want to order a 2.5 mg then wish I'd stayed on 5mg Grin

EBoo80 · 22/10/2024 14:06

Thanks for asking @20bloodypounds - got through to the prescriber straight away and it was somewhat reassuring, but they can’t really advise me to take more of the ‘bonus dose’ because that’s off label. She made sensible point to keep an eye on my suppression and if I want to discuss starting new pen early I can call again to chat about that.
she said it sounds like I hadn’t clicked the needle all the way on to pen. I thought i did same as usual but it could be that I was rushing. My takeaway is if the pen won’t prime, remove the needle and try again, rather than just repeatedly stabbing yourself without knowing what’s happening 😄

EBoo80 · 22/10/2024 14:07

@drowningbutwaving you could always try one of the intermediate doses folk on here seem to be having success with? my inclination would be to order ‘up’ and then use less, rather than risk having a pen too weak to be much use.

poppy80 · 22/10/2024 14:29

I've not posted in ages but am still on my weight loss journey. Well done to everyone who is sticking at it, some amazing losses.

I am on week 7 and due to start my 7.5mg pen at the weekend. I'm feeling a bit apprehensive about this, anyone else on this dose?

Wk 1 SW 13 stone , 6 pounds BMI 31.3
Wk 7 CW 12 stone, 1 pound BMI 28.1

Total loss 19 pounds.

Onwards and downwards.

20bloodypounds · 22/10/2024 17:00

@drowningbutwaving You could go down to 3.75mg for your next 2 doses (easily managed from your current pen) which is 45 clicks of the pen, or 0.45ml if you're using an insulin-type syringe. I feel (for me) that if I'm doing this long-term(ish) then it is important to balance good nutrition with weight loss. I'd rather have some slight hunger - and hopefully learn to manage that - than strong suppression and end up at a goal weight but as wek as a kitten or my hair falling out because I'm missing some essential vitamin.

My lessons so far: I 'think' I'm learning to put smaller amounts on my plate, I'm certainly eating more slowly, drinking water as I eat, noticing when I start to feel full, and stopping. Even if that does mean leaving food on my plate which dh seems irrationally irritated about.

I am often (but not always) going without breakfast since I find intermittent fasting works quite well for me, and if I feel a little hungry I can easily manage that with more water and some absorbing work. I also like that I'm not overly restricting any food groups. I avoid sugar but tonight I'm looking forward to a portion of shepherd's pie with peas, carrot and spinach.

@poppy80 you're doing great! I sometimes look at the August thread since they're a few weeks ahead of us. Lots of them are on 7.5mg and finding it OK. How are you on your current dose - side effects / appetite suppression? That might tell you a lot. And you could always try a slightly smaller amount the first time...

Musfaffa · 22/10/2024 17:29

Hiya. I’m glad I found this thread. I started mounjaro on the 19th of September. I lost 13.5lbs in my first 4 weeks which i‘m obviously made up with but this last week has been hard. I felt like I had good suppression on 2.5mg but since starting on 5mg I have been feeling much hungrier. I’ve been eating a lot of protein products eg Lidl protein puddings and grenade bars and then having a main meal at night but i’m wondering if i should stop with the protein products and just have 3 meals a day no snacks etc. I’ve just had my tea which granted I didn’t eat it all (didn’t taste that nice) and my belly is actually rumbling. I’m at 1100 calories so I suppose I could have something else but I don’t really fancy anything I’ve got in the house. I used to have takeaways twice a week and eat chocolate 3 times a week and I haven’t felt like eating either since starting mounjaro which is great but my weight loss has started to stall a little and I’m feeling a bit disheartened. I have adhd/autism and I have sensory issues when it comes to food with a limited diet which is where most of my problems with food come from. Anyway sorry for moaning. I’m just having a bad week.

InfoSecInTheCity · 22/10/2024 17:38

Hi @Musfaffa I find the bars are really high calorie for low reward.

If you look at the typical protein bar it's about 200 calories, compared to a couple of boiled eggs for 120 which would make you feel more full.

I like to bulk cook so I have stuff in the fridge that can just be blitzed and can have a decent sized bowl of food for 220 calories that fills me up, compared to a protein bar that generally has the texture of cardboard or rubber and leaves me feeling unsatisfied.

An example of a bulk cook I do is:

  • 500g 5% fat beef mince
  • 2 punnets baby button mushrooms
  • can of tomatoes
  • large onion
  • 4 baby bell peppers
  • seasoning.

That splits into 4 portions, gives me protein, carbs, fat, fibre, vitamins/nutrients from the veg and a warm full belly.

poppy80 · 22/10/2024 18:16

Thanks @2020bloodypounds, I'll have a look at the first thread.

I think I've been fairly lucky regarding side effects. This week however, I have had acid reflux and zero appetite. I'm having to force myself to have a small evening meal with my family which is not like me at all.

I think I will look to stick at 5mg for another week so that I can hopefully experience less appetite suppression (there's a sentence I never thought I would say!)

OvaHere · 22/10/2024 19:20

Week 6 complete. Only a lb off this week. I'm such a slow loser although it's better than the 0.4 lb last week. I've just hit a 12lb loss. Started at 14.6 and now 13.6. It's going in the right direction but I was hoping for more this week. I guess I will be going up to 7.5mg in a couple of weeks I guess, I'm very fortunate that I have very little in the way of side effects so far so should hopefully be fine at the higher doses.

InfoSecInTheCity · 22/10/2024 19:30

Waiting for my period to start, I've definitely got the general tetchyness going on, everyone I've encountered today has been really annoying. Given the common denominator is me I'm assuming the whole world full of people hasn't been replaced with arseholes who deliberately get in my way and talk overly loud???

drowningbutwaving · 22/10/2024 21:02

@20bloodypounds I hadn't thought about that, that could be a good idea. I felt similarly to you while on 2.5mg, that I was eating well and with more awareness. Pre MJ, I couldn't just eat one biscuit, I'd finish a packet at a time. That kind of binging hasn't happened since I started but get more balance around still eating meals, albeit smaller and more healthy ones, while on 2.5mg.

20bloodypounds · 23/10/2024 07:59

@poppy80 stick to what is effective for YOU. From your post it doesn't sound like you 'need' to advance to 7.5mg, so why do it? Balance your appetite and your side effects...

There is a 'standard' regime: 2.5mg (clinically not proven yet to be effective) to get used to the medication, increasing every 4 weeks to 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, 15... But actual real results are so differsnt from a 'standard' trial. Some people struggle on 2.5mg and reduce to half f that (yet still lose weight). Some people accelerate to 10mgs to get much effect.

sylv165 · 23/10/2024 08:05

Weigh in day this morning and I have stayed the same. I guess that balances out a bigger than usual loss last week. It is slightly frustrating as I am so close to losing a stone - but fingers crossed for next week 🤞

Similar to me although I didn’t have a huge loss last week. Only lost 0.5 lb, although I was 1lb down earlier in the week. Feel rather constipated so wonder if that’s partly the reason!!!

week 1 5lbs loss
week 2 3lbs loss
week 3 2lbs loss
week 4 0.5 lbs loss

overall seems like they don’t want me to get that first stone off 😅

sticking with 2.5 personally, hoping it still works for me.

Been eating between 700 and 1000 calories but I am very short. Interesting how much weight loss has slowed!!
