I don't like sweeteners either, @doodleschnoodle , any of them. I wanted a clear whey drink, but couldn't find any without sweeteners. It puts a lot of healthy/diet foods off my list (although suppose it also helps me avoid some processed foods, so not all bad). But I'm also vegetarian and struggle getting enough protein sometimes, and I'm getting pretty bored of the standard fare now. It has made me realise quite how carb-based my diet pre-MJ was.

doodleschnoodle · 03/11/2024 11:31

I've just ordered protein yoghurts! Hope they are nice. I did try a protein shake but I couldn't drink it. I have some clear protein power but I got flavoured and don't really like it. I don't like artificial sweeteners which is a problem for a lot of these protein replacement things. Maybe I need to get some flavourless stuff and add it to my usual drinks.

I think the rest of the family are getting tired of my uninspired 'some sort of chicken and veg' dinners, so I've bought a couple of new cookbooks.

I get all my recipes off TikTok.

Put in High protein meals. I just made a Tuscan chicken spicy, creamy type meal for food prep. It’s delicious.

Thank you. I think the crux of the matter is that the suppression on 2.5 is just not there.

I start the day well, I make my own protein pancakes and have them with fruit and greek yogurt. Probably around mid morning. Lunch depends on what I'm doing work wise, might be a sandwich, soup and bread or a protein bar. Dinner varies, stir fry with plenty of veg, jacket potato, etc.

Food noise is dulled for 1-2 days and then it is back with a vegeance and I eat all manner of rubbish which is how I got into this state in the first place!

I don't drink enough I know that.

Yesterday I took my first 5mg so hoping the food noise will die down. Reading what I've written I think I've answered my own question!

I think you are probably eating more calories than you think you are.

Greek yoghurt is about 100calories per 100g which is a relatively small serving, so you could be having easily double that if you're not measuring, protein pancakes are about 100 calories each so 2 would be 200, then fruit adds about another 100 so breakfast is around 400-500 calories.

Your lunch probably comes in at about the same depending on size and type of bread, butter, condiments and sandwich filling.

The allowing 600 for dinner and another couple of hundred for snacks and drinks, you're probably at 1900 and that's not even a particularly big day of eating or one that makes you feel like you've had lots of treats.

Take a few days to really properly log everything you eat and drink on MyFitnessPal free version. Then take a look at the nutrition analysis and where your wasted calories are and see what you can take out of your diet that will have the best calorie reduction without making you feel deprived.

For example

  • 2 medium eggs is 120 calories, add some spring onions and peppers and you have a tasty omelette for breakfast for around 150 calories.
Hildabaggins · 03/11/2024 12:25

To any vegetarians/vegans who want protein-rich meals, I follow sophsplantkitchen and gigigoesvegan on instagram. Both make vegan meals that are high in protein.

Thank you 20bloodypounds

Yes, the rubbish is cakes, biscuits, chocolate. I don't have it in the house other than a packet of Rich Tea just to take the edge off any nausea.

The office is another matter entirely! Never seen so much junk! I am often in the office on my own after everyone has gone and that is a danger time, I'm also out in the community a couple of days a week, that is also a danger time if I haven't planned ahead. Too many shops/garages calling out to me .

Think I need a complete overhaul and plan ahead which I'll do today.

I have only just eaten something as wasn't hungry so hopefully 5mg is going to be the dose that helps to supress the dreaded 'food noise'

madasa666 · 03/11/2024 12:36

Thank you infosecin the city . I do track on nutracheck which is very helpful although I do think it adds way too many calories for exercise so I try to make sure I don't eat those!

I measure and weigh but seems I only do this at the start of the week and by about Wednesday I've fallen off the wagon!

Going to do as you've suggetsed and log everything this week and then look at it at the end of the week to see where I can make changes/where I'm wating calories.

I weigh on a Saturday so will report back on Saturday even if only to keep myself accountable.

A little boost this morning, 2.5lbs off since yesterday!! So 25l.5lbs off all together.
I'm glad the scales are moving again, it's been a long 3 weeks.
I've probably cursed it now and it'll go back on or I won't lose again for ages!

alwaysscared · 03/11/2024 14:19

25.5lbs

OvaHere · 03/11/2024 17:23

After a bit of a rubbish week for side effects on the last jab of 5mg suddenly today they've all vanished and for the first time since starting MJ I had the urge to eat a chocolate bar. So in the space of a week I've gone from feeling the dose was too much to now not enough with 2 days still to go. Perhaps 7.5mg won't be the big jump I've been fearing.

Luckily there were no chocolate bars to be found in the house.

Seldomseenkid · 03/11/2024 07:51

Hi all. Weigh in 9 and it’s half a pound off this week. There’s been a lot of socialising and also colds so I think that’s about justified! After 2 months on a reduced dose I am now ready to try 2.5 again. I was feeling suppression wearing off by Thursday so I feel
its the right time.

@Seldomseenkid - I just came across your post that you've been having a reduced dose. I've been on 1.25mg for 4 weeks now (had to lower the dose from 2.5mg as it gave me side effects!)

Was just wondering how your weight loss has been and if you titrated up over that time?

I don't know anyone else taking a smaller dose so would love to hear your experience :)

Thornymum · 03/11/2024 18:23

Weigh day and jab day and I'm another 3lb down this week 😁
Taken my 4th dose of 5mg now so 9 jabs in and lost a total of 2 stone 3lbs gone

Great stuff! So nice to see the scales moving again (I think mine may be starting to as well 😁)

Hey @crumbsonmyface I’ve slowly gone up but very much at my own pace! I’ve just sat down and worked out my weekly weigh ins.

WK1 on 2.5 lost 7.5 pounds with horrible side effects and a day off work! Total suppression and struggled to eat anywhere near enough.

WK2- on 1.25 (30 clicks) -4 pounds off. No side effects and strong suppression

WK3 on 1.25 -2 pounds off. No side effects and strong suppression

WK4 on 1.25- 4- 2 pounds off. Suppression not as strong but satisfied with small meals.

WK5- W8 on approx 1.7 (40 clicks) 7 pounds off in 4 weeks. No side effects, mid level suppression, food hum not noise, satisfied with small meals and no snacks. Felt suppression lifted towards the end of wk 8.

WK- 2.5 from today!

So I’ve settled at around 1-2 pounds off a week. I calorie count to 1200 a day. I have a very active job right now but never add in the exercise calories I accrue to eat over 1200 cals. Eat pretty healthily most of the time and have massively reduce portion sizes!

Starting weight was 13.4 and I’m 5”4. I’m about halfway to my goal and guessing ill
be there by the end of Jan at this rate.

I’ve only gone up when I’ve felt suppression lifting to a point where food noise was bothering me, not because I felt I should be aiming to go up.

Seldomseenkid · 03/11/2024 19:20

Cheers @HippoPortlyMouse it was a tricky week but I feel next week should be easier! I think if you are not sure about going up then don’t. But I’m forever scarred by my first week side effects!

alwaysscared · 03/11/2024 19:25

@85reasons yay!! I hope so for you!

EJA24 · 03/11/2024 20:48

I’ve just moved up to 7.5 dose this week with no side effects. I’ve basically gone up textbook style after each pen and had v little in way of side effects since starting this journey. Throughout I’ve still been able to eat a decent portion but MJ definitely stops the food noise and snacking, and gives me willpower to make good choices. Everyone has started to comment that I look good / younger / lost weight which is so nice! Still clinically obese and a long way to go but starting to feel like the me I lost since having kids a decade ago!

That's good to hear. I'm moving up to 7.5 next week. I've had a rough week on my last 5mg which has been out of the blue because I've not had much in the way of side effects before.

I'm wondering if lack of exercise has played a part this week. I usually weight train a few times a week but my PT has been on leave and despite my best intentions I've been a lazy sod and not done nearly enough on my own. Maybe the metabolic effect of exercise helps somehow?

20bloodypounds · 03/11/2024 22:52

It is so astonishing how variable we all are in our response to MJ - some struggling on very low doses, others ramping up in exactly the way it was planned. And it doesn't seem related to staring weight or BMI, it's just another one of those metabolic things!

@Seldomseenkid fascinating information, and on such a low dose...

@alwaysscared how amazing. You have been scared - worried about starting, anxious about side effects, convinced that it wouldn't work for you, wary about increasing doses... But you have stuck with it, you've done it, and my goodness, look at those results! More than 25 pounds. Please, take a moment, just one moment to not be scared, to recognise that you have done this.

alwaysscared · 03/11/2024 23:01

@20bloodypounds thank you so much

GoldieLocks09 · 04/11/2024 03:12

Have really been getting on well with 3.75mg over the last few days, good suppression, no side effects really other than the sulphur burps which I’ve actually grown to be ok with - it’s as though when I have them I know it’s working 😂 and I’m down 18lbs since starting MJ on 24th September and down overall 34lbs since October last year after having baby #2.

I’ve seen people talking about their periods on MJ, mine are pretty irregular due to PCOS but I’ve always found that my weight plays a big part - losing a little bit kickstarts them again. I hadn’t actually had a period since after my last baby so about a year, since starting MJ and losing the first 7-10lbs it’s back, but I’ve been ‘on’ for the last month pretty consistently. More of like a dark brown-ish blood most of the time with only a couple of days of what seems like fresh? Has anyone else experienced this?

It’s not causing me any pain and I’ve kind of just been rolling with it thinking that after not having one for almost 2 years due to baby then nothing that my body just needs a proper clear out?

@Seldomseenkid - thank you SO much for taking the time to post all of that - it's really appreciated. Hope you get on well with the 2.5mg this time around, fingers crossed.

I've been debating how to handle the next few weeks, but I think you're right about going slowly, and that's my plan too. I'm not going to titrate up until I need to, and hopefully it's a better time than last. God it was a rough first week haha!

Keep us posted on how you get on with the 2.5 x

I hope this isn’t insensitive for anyone struggling, but I wondered if those who have had significant losses are buying new clothes yet? I’m two stones down from my highest weight, and still wearing my size 16 clothes.

Really struggling to bring myself to buy smaller and because I’m tall and broad, old clothes aren’t falling off me (except some PJs that were oversized). But I realised one of the reasons few people have noticed is because I’m wearing baggy clothes all the time!

I posted similar a day or two ago! It feels like a bit of a no man's land at the minute. I've lost 30lbs but like you am still wearing my old clothes and that makes it harder to notice too. I did buy one new jumper in a smaller size, but I don't want to spend too much money when I don't know what size I'll settle at eventually. So I might just stay baggy for a bit and when I have to replace stuff, size down. But then part of me wants to buy new clothes now as a little morale boosting thing too.

OP posts:
20bloodypounds · 04/11/2024 11:50

I've lost 19 pounds and I'm still wearing the same clothes. Most of my jeans or trousers were elasticated anyway so they still fit. I hate wearing tight clothes so all my tops are baggy and my dresses don't have waists. I'm enjoying that they are looser on my boobs.

My face looks thinner (or less plump) but I imagine that over winter I'll continue in my existing clothes. But I've got a hot holiday coming up and I've got new trousers for that. Most of the rest are summer clothes I already had from when I was slimmer before.
