Hi all, I haven't been around for a little while so just catching up on the thread - great to see everyone's progress. I'm taking the bonus dose from my first pen tonight, so will be going up to 5mg from next week - and I feel I'm ready for it as the suppression seems to be wearing off a bit.

I had some great news this morning from my health insurance company, they've approved payment for 4 months' worth of Mounjaro, with the possibility of later extending it subject to a doctor's report etc. Where I live it's super expensive (around GBP400 per month) so I am bloody jubilant about that!

My weight loss has stalled a bit, I'm at 6lbs loss after a month, so hoping that will kick in again soon. However the non-scale benefits have been significant - better sleep, better skin, no joint pain, drop in dress size. Feeling very positive going forward. Good luck on your continuing journeys everyone.

Just taken my 5th dose. Managed to do it with insulin syringe and got just over 0.7 out of it.
does anyone know what this works out at? I can’t find the table I used.

Ideally I was hoping for 3.75mg dose, which is 0.9, as a step up towards 5mg next week.

SW 16st
CW 15st
GW 13st

So a stone down in 5 weeks. I’m very happy with that!

ShiftAMountain · 21/10/2024 12:30

@Witchyandtwitchy that's the same as I got out with a syringe and I worked it out to be 2.9mg

Everyone probably know this but MedExpress price match. I have just received an £11 credit against my next order.

puts a small dent in the price - and makes me less stressed about having to change suppliers!

ohdearwhatnow12 · 21/10/2024 12:41

Hi all, can someone please explain to me what the hard twist method is? I'm coming up to my 3rd week on dose 2.5 and wondering what this bonus dose is?

Witchyandtwitchy · 21/10/2024 13:28

The pen has 4 official doses. And a bit more, usually enough for another full dose.
To get it you have to twist the plunger, like normal, but will have to force it to turn. Then inject as normal.

ShiftAMountain · 21/10/2024 13:38

Fantastic news @holycow1 ! That £400pm you'll now have free for new clothes in smaller sizes 😂

@JustWalkingTheDogs
that sounds tricky, it’s crap going to bed feeling hungry. When you say you’ve tried protein to help you feel full have you tried directly before bed? A slice of ham or a boiled egg or something 😂

peonym · 21/10/2024 19:29

Just had a bowl of my husband's leftover Chinese and feel horrendous 🤢

Injection day tomo. Can't wait. Out for dinner tomo eve but going to try to make healthy choices and PRAY I see a 15 on the scales on Wednesday.

KitsyWitsy · 21/10/2024 20:49

I am out for tea tomorrow too and I can’t wait. I need to eat so badly. I’ve had hardly anything all week. Hopefully I’ll have an appetite as it’s jab day on Wednesday. Definitely didn’t need to jab early this week! This coming injection will be whatever is left in the pen. Not looking forward to using the insulin needle.

Bellyblueboy · 21/10/2024 21:15

Someone just used my referal code🥳. So with the price match that’s £51 off my next pen.

I am suffering a bit this week - luckily I was working from home today😩. But hopefully it will pass (excuse the pun).

I was also a bit scared of the syringe, expecting some good awful inch long needle - no - it was just as easy, if anything the size/weight felt more delicate than the pen, the needle just a fraction longer.

I have covid and flu vaccines tomorrow - I now feel I could just bang them in myself with barely a second thought.

The only thing slightly weird with the syringe was air bubbles at the top, I've never got those with the pen, but a few taps and depress a little out and right as rain.

Pashazade · 22/10/2024 08:13

So I've made my first stone (starting next pen later this evening)
SW 15st 12lb
CW 14st 11lb
GW 🤷🏻‍♀️
Was not expecting big loss in week 4 but weirdly it's been 5lbs this week. Staying on the 2.5 for now.

Going to measure things later, only doing the measuring fortnightly but jeans are definitely less tight!

Sunbeamturtle · 22/10/2024 09:16

I did week 5, 5mg Sunday. I could barely eat yesterday. Had half a bowl of cereal, some chicken and that was it. No dinner. Had some wine and went to bed, woke up in night feeling awful with heartburn and feeling sick.

Still feel sick. I also feel dizzy though so do need to somehow eat!

Sunbeamturtle · 22/10/2024 09:17

@JustWalkingTheDogs try some gaviscon, it might be heartburn rather than hunger pangs. Although I have had hunger pangs during the night in first few weeks. It’s annoying

How did you do it and what evidence did you need to provide? I've looked at the MedExpress website and from what I see it doesn't really say how to claim a price match.

As you say - it means you don't need to shop around for the best deal and can stick with the same provider.

ShiftAMountain · 22/10/2024 10:20

5mg pen just arrived, ready for Friday. What I haven't decided yet is if I am going for the full 5mg straight away or try a 3.75mg first....

OP posts:
Darkfloods · 22/10/2024 11:56

@ShiftAMountain I went from 2.5 to 5. I had a headache the next day and a couple of nights of insomnia which is a bit annoying but haven’t felt sick thankfully.

TheCatterall · 22/10/2024 12:08

@ShiftAMountain mines in the fridge and I reckon I’m just going for it.

holycow1 · 22/10/2024 12:22

Well, after moaning that I'd only lost 6lbs so far, weighed myself this morning and another 3lbs have suddenly disappeared - brilliant 😁

I did the 'hard twist' last night to get my bonus dose. Couldn't do it at first, wouldn't budge. But then I used a damp cloth for extra grip and twisted really hard and it worked. Happy to have got every last drop out of my pen! Picking up my new 5mg pen in a couple of days. Thinking about maybe changing my injection day to Saturday instead of Monday, in case I have any dodgy reactions to the higher dose. I'll be taking the full 5mg, I will only confuse myself if I try and split the dosage.

holycow1 · 22/10/2024 12:25

Congrats @Pashazade! A whole stone in 4 weeks is amazing, I bet that's given you a real boost.

KitsyWitsy · 22/10/2024 16:23

Did my bonus dose. Got 3.125mg out of it.

I won’t really notice much weight loss until I’ve lost another half stone. Just because I’d piled it on recently.

off out for Greek food later.

Cocoaone · 22/10/2024 17:28

Honestly. This medication is wild.

Jab 4 was Saturday, I opted for 2mg and that seemed like a good choice - I was still getting hungry at meal times but could eat a decent sized portion.

I went for brunch today at 11 and opted for the scrambled egg on wholemeal toast. Only ate one slice of toast. Felt fine. I have been soooo full all afternoon. It's been 6.5 hours since I ate and I'm just starting to feel less uncomfortable. I'm not sure if it's because it's day 3 so levels in my blood are at the peak, or if it's just that bread no longer agrees with me. Which is sad!

But - I feel like my collar bones look slightly less padded, and my bra feels a bit emptier. I'm very pear shaped so lose weight there first, annoyingly!

boxoftoads · 22/10/2024 17:55

I’m checking in for some love and some accountability.

I am 6lbs down, three weeks in. I move up to 5mg on Friday. I wasn’t expecting any weight loss to start with but even the same again would be amazing. I’ve been battling since 2020 and nothing has helped me lose weight. This seems to be a life saver.

I’m a bit scared but I am loving not being starving all the time (on all sorts of meds and HRT) so it’s helping a lot.

I didn’t get a great start on this so hoping the move up isn’t too bad

ShiftAMountain · 22/10/2024 19:37

@Cocoaone It IS mad! I have days when I think 'oh no, it's wearing off' and then the next day - wham! - suddenly I have eaten a sandwich (for eg) and am too full to eat anything more.

Sunday and Monday were like that. On Sunday I ate about 1700 cals and felt I could have eaten more. Monday, for no reason, I never really thought about food all day and realised at the end of the day I'd only had about 1000 cals.

It is lovely, though, to just have a small meal and for that to feel like it's plenty. To feel totally satisfied with that amount of food. But it's come as a brand new experience, for me.
